We've got a nice college FB schedule today beginning with Texas (5) vs. Oklahoma (1) in just an hour. Honestly, does it get better than this?
And closing out the day is LSU (4) at Florida (11). For several years, these SEC matchups have been BY FAR the most exciting regular season football of the year. Will the Tigers and the Gators live up to the hype this year and entertain the heck out of a Wall Street beaten-down nation desperately in need of some cheap fun on a Saturday night? Any other games to watch?
In MLB, are you surpised by the Phillies taking a 2-0 lead? And are the Rays running out of steam leading to yet another World Series appearance by the Sox?
Hockey is now well under way with the Rangers starting the season 3-0. Any predictions?
Anything else on your mind?

My rantings and ravings for today
October 11, 2008 - 10:20 ET by ricklailTwo things I thought I never would hear. “Welcome to sold-out Tropicana Field” and “Skinner takes a knee as the Deacons have won at a sold-out BB&T Field here in Winston Salem” (Folks this is not the Wake Forest of the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and the early 21st century.)
Speaking of Wake, I was surprised that the Clem’s son fans didn’t try to throw Tommy Bowden under the bus as it left Winston. The natives are circling the pond getting ready to throw him out of town. Bye, Bye Tommy hello Lane Kiffen. Should have had more Furmans, SC States or Citadels on the schedule. Too many not ready for the big time players at Clem’s son.
Gardner Webb? Come on Yellowjackets- Gardner Webb? When I worked for the power company I had to drive through Boiling Springs (NC) to get to one of our plants. If you blinked you would miss the campus altogether.
This is for Blonde. “Tebow drops back and lofts a long one to Percy Harvin. TOUCHDOWN- 57 yards. This is Harvin’s 3rd TD today on 260 receiving yards.” LSU-this is not Saturday night in Baton Rouge. It is the SWAMP. Those LSU players that have been trash talking about hurting Tebow should have been suspended for this game by the SEC. There is no place in college for comments such as that.
Phat Phil will make his last trip to Sanford Stadium today as the Vols head coach. After a good butt kicking “between the hedges” his days in Knoxville are numbered. I liked the way they put it on Gameday; Rocky days on Rocky Top.
The Irish, no longer called Fighting, venture down to Keenan Stadium in Blue Heaven. I sure hope the Heels can step up and show the polls voters they are for real. Could a Tar Heel win cost Charlie Weiss his job? Only one time (2001 for one week) since the Mack Brown days have Heels have been ranked. We’re doomed. Corso picked the Heels.
As for Mack Brown I really think he is a great coach. Sorry Mack the Sooners are just too good. Another loss for the Longhorns in the Red River shootout. By the way the Sooners high powered offense in coached by an old homeboy, Kevin Wilson.
Go Canetucky, enjoy some chicken anyway you want it.
ECU at Va. Maybe the Pirates can get back on the winning track today.
Upset special: Arkansas over Auburn. Auburn doesn’t have an offensive coordinator because in his infinite wisdom Tuberville saw fit to fire Tony Franklin this week
Useless fact. The 3 Division 1 schools in Oklahoma, OU, OSU and Tulsa, are a combined 16-0. Out of the 9 schools in Texas only Texas, Texas Tech and TCU have winning records.
My Dodgers have their backs to the wall. Just the way they like it. Could we see another Curt Gibson moment?

I'm sure Coach Miles had a nice little chit-chat with those LSU players. Trash talking isn't good for many reasons. But, this is a huge game for both teams and the SEC. It's gonna be a hard and fierce battle tonight.
Thanks, Rick
October 11, 2008 - 18:23 ET by BlondeThe day is shaping up rather well, I think. Congrats to you, my friend.
Can you say Adios, Phat Phil? Poor Baby.
Woo hoo botg! Bobby Stoops is getting a tad chubby, wow. What a huge game.
Old Ball Coach pulls one out, LOL.
Vandy goes down...the SEC East now looks like it's supposed to.
And thank you for your "Mercy, Percy" (h/t Mick Huber) comment....I suspect those LSU players may truly regret the trash talk, particularly when they run into Timmy. He's alot bigger and stronger than he looks (ha!).

October 11, 2008 - 15:55 ET by ricklailOK I listen to too much sports radio, ESPN & SNR. I believed the things they talk about. On paper OU was the better team but the game wasn't played on paper. Hats off to Colt McCoy and the Longhorns. You made a believer out of me. But, I still think Florida will beat LSU.
I'll be wearing the remote out tonight having to switch from game to game to the race.

October 11, 2008 - 17:00 ET by GOPG8RMy mom and I used to wonder which was worse - to be married to a Florida State Seminole or a Democrat. At the time we decided it would be worse to be married to a 'Nole since you would have to look at garnet and gold year round but I've changed my mind. I couldn't be married to a Democrat for ALL the money in the world (partially b/c my spouse would then think it's cool for the government to take it all!).

October 11, 2008 - 23:33 ET by RESTLESS 1NO WAY Florida gets to number 2 without a lot of help. If Texas gets a win against Mizzou, then they might just go undefeated. October 12, 2008 - 00:12 ET by BlondeThe season after a National Championship is a let down...yes?
I did hear during the game, though, that the last time two Nat. Champs. (in the two prior years) had met during a regular season was in 1989. So.....regardless of the outcome...seeing how we play each other every year (and you kicked our butts twice in a row....) that is pretty cool, yes?
SEC Rules!
BTW....Last year I was hollering LSU all the way, knowing my Gat's were out of it.
I think it's pretty interesting this year though.....December will be pretty cool!
