Why bother?
October 7, 2008 - 20:06 ET by pwoz(repost from earlier today)
McCain's already lost the election. His lack of a spine in calling out
SOCIALISM on Obama, as well as the support of that pathetic "bailout"
guaranteed the comrade's victory last week.
it's tough to kick the rino

Its Obvious...
October 7, 2008 - 22:01 ET by aerovelo...That McCain isnt the star on this ticket. He just cant wow them like Sarah.
He did pretty well, but he does need to realize, his job at this point is to hold the door for Sarah. If he cant do that then I guess Obama is holding the door for Hillary.
I still believe Sarah and John can pull it off. All they have to do is keep hammering Obama's lack of experience and shady past. The dems have their fingerprints all over our current financial situation and if Sarah and McCain cant make hay with that...then I dont know what would.
McCain has to realize also, he is not going to win any Dem voters...what he has to do is get the conservative right to start frothing at the mouth over a win in November. If he can get them to come out and bring two friends, he stands a chance.
Someone said he should stop saying "my friends". I think he should stop saying "we need bipartisan effort". Screw that, inspire your base, insure they come out for you in droves. McCain, your base gives a crap about bipartisanship.

Ask yourself: Do I want a good paying job, or do I want a government hand out. Its that simple!
Obama is evil, through and through (important, read on)
October 7, 2008 - 23:28 ET by wdhorningPresident Bush helped to stop WW III by ordering troops into Iraq, a war Obama opposed (read on).
Look at what Iran is doing today. It is spinning up its yellowcake for the obvious purpose of making nuclear weapons.
Had Obama been president in 2003, instead of Bush, we would have never
gone into Iraq. Instead, Saddam would have soon kicked the IAEA out,
and right now be spinning up his 600 tons of yellow cake, just like in
Iran. (And 600 tons can make about 142 nuclear weapons.)
And as soon as Iran and Iraq both built enough nuclear weapons, the two
countries would start WW III, destroy 1/3 of the world's energy
sources, making the current financial crisis look like a child's piggy
bank broke open or something compared to a world-wide economic
depression, and this all would have virtually tossed us back into the
stone age, all thanks to a man named Obama.
And to the rest of you traitors to the USA, the U.S. military, this
past summer, pulled the 600 tons of yellowcake out of Iraq, and all I
have to say to you traitors, if 600 tons of yellow cake, enough for 142
nuclear weapons, is not WMD, what the hell is? You are morons!!!! And
you are traitors for speaking against this war!!!! And you supported,
de facto, WW III !!!!

Now for the really evil part of Obama. He went to visit his cousin in
Kenya in 2006, and made a really big speech to his cousin's followers,
encouraging them to support his cousin. Before and after this event,
his cousin has waged genocide in Kenya, killing and raping women and
children, and even has burned alive church goers inside of churches,
and he has driven the populations away from their lands and homes. His
cousin is still operating in Kenya and still murdering people. Any
person who supports a genocidal maniac like Obama's cousin, is himself,
evil through and through, and that is Obama. There is no other
explanation that fits this maniac, but that.
========
There is clear evidence, per the Fox Hannity report on Sunday past,
that Obama has given significant support to local Palesinian
organizations in the Chicago area, who are not trying to bring a
peaceful solution in Israel, but rather are supporting most of the
ant-Israel terrorist organizations in the Middle East. Obama therefore
lies when he says he will defend Israel. That is lie by the king of
liars. If Obama wins, Israel can kiss its ass goodbye.
========
With repect to un-repentent Bill Ayers -- Bill Ayers, in his own living
room, helped Obamas start his political career, and prior to this Obama
worked with Ayers for 4 years solid on "community organizing" efforts.
This was no casual, chance meeting or two, this was a virtual
conspiracy to help Obama rise up the ranks. And for what purpose should
he become president? Help terrorists bomb targets in the US? Help
destroy the USA from within? Start a race war? Start WW III? That is what
it sounds like to me.
Obama eats, drinks, walks and talks, evil. He is a danger to the USA,
and even to world stability. Elect him, and kiss your ass goodbye.
=============
Now to borrow a line for Rev Wright, and I mean no personal threat,
I will leave that up to God, by soft prayer is "God damn Barrack Obama".
And remember, for 20 years, Obama heard racist, hate filled, "God damn
America" style preaching from Rev Wright.
(By the way, I have been to
black churches, where they love the Lord, and they do not preach like
this and guess what, these people are mostly not on welfare or any
other type of "fare" because the Lord has given them the inspiration to
educate themselves, work hard, and get ahead, and so do not need
government handout, and many whites and other nationalities often
attend these churhes, too.)
============
Spread the word, folks. This man, Obama, is evil, through and through, his associations and support for evil people proves it.
- Obama is a "maniac"
- Obama is a threat to the peace and security of the USA
- Obama is a threat to the world's peace and security.
- Obama is out to completely destroy the US economy, by raising taxes on businesses so high, that the majority of businesses will fail. What
good is a personal tax cut, if you are out of work, because the company
you once worked for is taxed out of business?
And then, if he succeeds in doing this to our economy, he will start
screaming that "capitalism is a failure," and start screaming "it needs
to be replaced with socialism/communism", which is the plot probably
hatched in Obama's mind, with the help of his communist buddy, Bill
Ayers.

It's 1976 all over again
October 7, 2008 - 20:48 ET by Scout FinchAmerican people are not hurting enough from Democrat tax and spend policies. And Bush has kept them safe from terrorism, so they have no fear about Obama's connections Khalidi and Ayers. They've enjoyed a pretty robust economy, so they figure we can afford to have "free" national health insurance.
In '76, we had a lukewarm Republican running against a fresh new face from Georgia in an election held after eight years of a Republican White House. We all know who won. And we all know how those four years played out.
It wasn't until our economy was in the toilet and our misery index was high enough to vote him out of office after one term. Can our country handle one term of Obama? Guess we'll find out.

He says it was because of pork...he says we spend 700 billion a year to the terrorists for the price we have to pay for oil, he votes against this because of earmarks...then he turns around and votes for the bail-out with tons of pork, all kinds in all areas of our lives, which just happens to be the same price...700 billion...

October 7, 2008 - 23:04 ET by RedboneProIf he voted against it, it would have prevented the bill going thru, so they'd have to use an 'axe' to cut all the pork off. In doing so, many dems and probably republicans may have not passed it. And seeing how if something, anything even if it had some fat on it didn't pass, could be a very disasterous thing in both the short and long run.
Although, I still think it should've been passed without any fat or 'pork' in it. This bill shouldn't have been about anything else EXCEPT for the issue of rescuing the housing market/mortgage crisis. None of this pork for wooden arrows and what-have-you.
And it should be duly noted that the democrats in Washington are the ones that PREVENTED any types of regulation or oversight. According to them, everything was fine and honkey doory. Could it be because they were part of this mess, perhaps receiving large amounts of tax payer dollars to fund certain campaigns in return for...
Isn't the guy that's in charge of this, that is to say, the guy in charge of government oversight, Barney Frank (democrat) has had an actual relationship, both financial, politcal and sexual, with the guy that was working in fannie may? Or was it with the guy with freddie mac, not sure... maybe both?
Didn't President Bush, (current President) bring this issue up to legislative branch over 10 times in his time in office? Was it not the democrats that ignored and rejected these calls from the President, to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT?
Didn't house republicans try to get some oversight on this? Wasn't McCain one of our elected representatives that actually tried to fix and call attention to this years ago?

- Federal law stipulates that an oil company must sink a producing well within 10 years or lose the lease (WSJ)
"Unfortunately, not all the leases contain oil and natural gas, and even those that do, may not contain enough to make them commercially viable. In many cases, the so-called “idle” leases are not idle at all; they are under geologic evaluation or in some stage of pre-production development and could be an important source of domestic supply in the not so distant future. Collectively, companies spend billions of dollars to obtain
leases, pay rental fees each year to continue to hold them, and then pay to conduct surveys and other exploratory activity before production even starts. If a company does not produce from a well within a specified period set out during the lease term (usually five or 10 years depending on the area), it relinquishes the lease back to the government and loses all the money it invested." - American Petroleum Institute
- Only 16% of U.S. oil imports come from the Middle East (EIA)
- The largest supplier of oil to the U.S. is Canada (EIA)
- The second largest supplier of oil to the U.S. is Mexico (EIA)
- The U.S. uses 25% of the world's oil supply because it produces over 25% of the world's economy (World Bank)

This is going to be worse
October 7, 2008 - 21:41 ET by msh1973This is going to be worse than the Carter years...Obama will get to choose at least two Justices. That Court will be with us for at least 20 years or longer. We are in big trouble people. Our freedoms will be hanging in the balance.
Two terms of his most holy:
October 7, 2008 - 21:42 ET by Kingfish17The press will not hurt Obama as they did Carter. Carter was a bafoon and couldn't hide it, and the press did not treat Carter's bafoonery kindly.
Obama will do no wrong, however, and anytime he does slip he will be forgiven, much like Clinton.
My great fear is that during his eight years we go way over the 50% threshold of people who depend on government for most aspects of their existence. There's no going back from that until you overthrow the government.
I also hope that our economy will actually do pretty good for a while. If Obama gets in office the press will tout the "Happy Days are Here Again" manatra and people will ease out of the panic mode, (that has been totally exaserbated by the press to coincide with this election cycle).
It's a slim hope, but one can dream.

The terminology "global warming" was "discouraged" in NOAA reports and/or publications. I know -- I was there. I can't understand why
October 7, 2008 - 21:54 ET by SmartypantsI can't understand why McCain does not emphasize the primary advantage he enjoys over Barack Obama--experience. He should be slamming it over the viewer's head that, in times of crisis, you do not hand the wheel to a novice, especially one who wants to abandon the principles that made America a great country to begin with. He should be telling us that we need to return to the fundamentals that created our prosperity, not turning to socialistic principle that have failed time after time. Instead, McCain is trying to beat Obama at his own game, suggesting we need to re-write everybody's mortgage.
Mitt Romney should have been the Republican nominee, period.

October 7, 2008 - 22:08 ET by Scuba DudeNo ifs, ands or buts about it. Sen McCain MUST bring up Obama's connections to Ayers, Wright and Rezko. He has to say to them Bush and the Republicans WANTED to have more regulation and that Obama's friends blocked that from happening, he should then say,"And seeing your record on consistantly voting with your party would have meant you too would have voted to let FN and FH to run the course that it has"

What do you people want?
October 7, 2008 - 22:24 ET by Lame CherryUnited States Soldiers are offered the leeway to bitch, piss and moan about just about anything, but they have a code in putting their lives on the line to shutting up, shouldering the pack and line fire walking no matter the battle.
I thank God the bloggers on Newsbusters saying this election is lost just because Karl Rove is tallying patrician numbers for people not intelligent enough to know he is telling Americans get off their butts or their is going to be an Obama, were not at Valley Forge or any other hell hole Americans have bled for as we would be subjects now, speaking French, Spanish, German or Russian.
Apparently my words held too much sway here in now becoming a mantra of "I don't support McCain" for people taking cheap shots at him.
John McCain is the horse in this race and that is the fact and I will ride this war hero no matter what because the alternative is Obama.
There is a vast difference between a socialist like McCain and a Marxist like Obama. Just ask the French how socialist DeGalle was and then ask Ukrainians millions dead was under Marxist Stalin.
The white flag wavers are typical of the people complaining on here about how Congress sold American voters out. Where were any of you in this fight kicking the hell out of Congress when Lott was prissing around not doing a thing. Now when the fight has just begun you have groused that the election is lost.
I have news for you children who have no idea what the fight is that Ronald Reagan was loosing to Jimmy Carter at this point in the election and was being hammered worse than McCain.
Reagan didn't have Sarah Palin and all he had was his "Governor of California record" which was lame.
Apparently too many people have no idea what a fight it took to get America to this point in the Reagan Revolution. How it took the Christians getting out the vote. How it took house by house visits by local Republicans. This just didn't happen to which too many people walked into it and thought Reagan just happened.
Ronald Reagan took 20 years, 2 defeats by his own party before he gained the opportunity to get this far in the fight John McCain is in now for the life of America.
I'm not going to abandon my country. I won't abandon the GOP, but will instead fight for it in more effort than I will ever admit too as it is nobody's business the sacrifices I made for America or this nation.
But if you don't understand all it took. The remarks of Reagan being degraded. The 2 LONGGGGGGGGG YEARS the US economy floundered under Reagan and we almost had a revolution in the United States of a literal uprising against our government, you don't have a clue about what a political fight is and how to win one.
I will warn people once again. You have no idea what is coming in the next years, because the world is going to change in the worst of ways. George W. Bush kept the nuclear fires at bay as our best hope and now John McCain is our last hope as the world becomes engulfed to save this nation from an invasion.
I don't write things to grab headlines nor to come up with silly phrases to grab attention. I speak in literal facts, historical and projection. I'm the one who was talking about Eurasian world war years ago and all of a sudden Russia flexes and all the pundits start chattering about what they read I posted as their own.
I've done allot of warning here as a witness and the words given me ended up in columns and radio shows as teaching is what this was the main concern.
Nobody here is being shot at as they type unlike the Soldiers America has sent out. Most of them don't do any of the bitching that goes on here. I will take on John McCain after his election in promoting a better agenda for him to outgrow his socialistic reactions. That is the difference in this as John McCain is the answer and Barack Obama is the problem.
So be a part of the solution and get out and get 10 of your couch slouchers to the polls to vote for McCain Palin as you do not want to be facing the economic, nuclear dust clouds from the Middle East settling over America, ports shut down, New York radioactive and central Europe running the show as then you're not going to be able to hide behind your computers as it will be the real slug match of every nation using all they have to win a scorched earth war as the world is not going to be fighting to win the damnable thing but is going to be the one who survives it and will lead for the next 1000 years.
Stop expecting for things to be handed to you. John McCain has earned his slack being butchered in a POW camp. So unless you pulled people out of the Twin Towers, hauled people out of the Pentagon, have a CIB or Purple Heart, give the defeat talk a rest and get up and win this thing.
God bless

Good for you, LC
October 7, 2008 - 23:13 ET by Indiana JoeI watched a bit of the debate. Okay, it wasn't Lincoln/Douglas. This format has been blandified and homogenized until it's almost an insult to the word "debate." But I gotta agree with LC.
What is up here? Earlier today and yesterday, everyone was thrilled! McCain had finally taken off the gloves, and beat Obama up about being more of a political insider than he's still willing to admit. Called him on his lies, called him a liar. Palin had gone after Ayers and Wright etc. The MSM was in full-shielding mode. We were writing posts and checking links, high-fiving and charged up. We had them on the run, up against the wall. We were takin' it to 'em. And now... ?
What did you expect, Daniel Freakin' Webster? Didn't we get over the fact that we got McCain, like it or not? We've only known it for, what, 2-3 months? Now, suddenly, everyone's talking "burnt pork" and suicide hot-lines? So what's changed?
What, everyone here thinks Oblabla wiped the floor with McCain? He just embarrassed him to tears? I'll tell you what I saw, and thought. I saw two politicians, and one of them said "I'm going to..." and the other said "We need to..." One talked about passing laws to force insurance on everyone, and fining employers, one talked about giving back tax credits to you to help pay for it. Not perfect, okay, but a better deal than Obama's, and nowhere near written in stone anyway. You disagree, vote for the O-man.
I heard McCain call Obama on his "untruths." He called him on it. I did too, I was talking to the TV, calling him on it. I wasn't sitting there with my head in my hands! What did you want, a boxing-match? I saw Obama ask for extra time to defend himself and I saw Brokaw tell him NO. Who expected that? Not me, I was shocked, but he did it. Ever hear of counting your blessings? Take what you can get, especially when you expected nothing?
Bottom line, I saw nothing here, nothing, to justify the nearly universal doom-and-gloom going on when I came to this thread after the debate. All I've heard all day here was "Hey, this ain't over," and "look at the MSM spinning, boy, they're worried," and "we've got to keep pushing," and "hey, we can do this, get the word out" and on and on and on. We were fired up! Even the trolls were almost absent, I looked coz I had a taste for some. They were smart enough to know they were in trouble, otherwise they'd have been here gloating. So, what do they know that you guys don't?
WTF changed that? Some staged show, that we knew was going to be stacked against us? So what, time to just pick up our ball and go home? Well, not me. I'm heading for bed soon, but I'll be back tomorrow. These debates are a joke anyway. There's still a month to go until the only poll that means anything. Heard some surrender talk today because of the freakin' polls. Not much, some. But nothing like this freaking whining!
You want to quit, go ahead. I don't get turned around that easily, and I don't quit that easily either. Not when the stakes are this high. I'm voting and working not-Obama, no matter what or who that means, at this point. I'll worry about Obama winning after he wins, and after I've done everything I can to prevent it. That's called fighting for what you believe in, and spreading the truth. That's what I'm going to do.
What are you going to do?

October 7, 2008 - 22:39 ET by JulesI think McCain did quite well given the horrible questions asked.
He laid blame on Obama and dems for the housing crisis and pointed out Obamas campaign donations from fan and fred.
He refutted pretty much everything Obama said and seemed more knowledgeable on the issues and more experienced. He answered the questions faster, packed more information into his answers and constantly kept Obama on the defensive. The negative point came when he had to say health care was a reponsibility not a right and that was a horribly biased question that Tom already knew what the answer would be and he chose it wisely to make McCain look bad. McCain's strongest point was calling out Obama on stating how he would kill Bin Laden. I thought it made Obama look very foolish. Obama continues to look very naive and say what he wants people to hear, McCain continues to be more experienced on the issues.

October 7, 2008 - 23:08 ET by PrairieSkyEverybody needs to take a deep breath...
Do I think McCain did what he had to do to change the direction of the race? No.
Do I think that McCain had a great performance? No. But do I think it was a disaster? No.
I think the reason that everybody seems so down about this is because there were such high hopes that McCain would say or do something that would seem to turn the race around. I also think that McCain's mention of this program about the government buying up and reducing the amount of many of these bad mortgage loans threw a lot of people...I still don't understand all of what he meant by that idea.
Now with that said, I also don't think Obama had a particularly good performance either. He did what he needed to do tonight...Basically, show up, string some relatively coherent sentences together, and don't make any really obvious gaffes. Obama did what he usually does. He talks and talks and manages to avoid any specifics (because he doesn't have any). He, like McCain, also didn't have a great moment.
All things considered, I still think McCain smoked Obama on tax and foreign policy issues. And I think the last question, inane though it was, set up McCain's best response.
This debate set up didn't lend itself to McCain going after Obama on Ayers etc. That will have to wait for the campaign trail rhetoric.
The last debate is billed as focusing on foreign policy issues, which is McCain's strongest area, so we can hope for his best performance there.

I agree. I think Sen. McCain was speaking tonite to the undecideds and moderate dems. This was not the format/place to bring up Ayers & company. We are sooooo frustrated and angry that the msm, ACORN, (along with dems in congress) have trampled all over our freedom- of speech freedom of free market-freedom to fair votes, that we only would be happy if McCain had picked up the stool and whopped obama (then tom) upside their silly liberal heads?!!

October 7, 2008 - 23:22 ET by Indiana Joe"undecideds and moderate dems."
Copy that. These debates were never, ever about the base. They're meant to sway the moderates, which both sides need to win.
What surprises me is that the base seems very upset about tonight. Here, at any rate.
Hey, I'm no McCain booster. I never was. I don't usually have the time of day for "moderates." I agree with Rush, a moderate is someone who can't make up their minds, because they have no principles. They want to be seen as "thoughtful." They're not thoughtful, they're afraid of having to defend their thoughts. But, a politician needs them.
I didn't put much stock or hope on any of the debates. And, for me, they haven't changed a thing. Maybe that's why I'm not ready to throw in the towel. We got a month to go, and I intend to use it.

I just threw my McCain yard sign in the trash.
October 7, 2008 - 23:49 ET by attorneygirlI live in fear for what is happening to our country.
Real fear.
The bail out bill that was passed earlier (that McCain voted for) has a provision in it that allows for "foreclosure mitigation." This means that the federal government gets to meddle in rewriting loans.
So, if you borrowed $500,000, but you failed to pay your loan on time, then the government can come in and--poof--you now only owe $200,000.
In tonight's debate, McCain presented his new McCain Resurgence Plan where he wants $300 Billion more of our dollars to buy up bad loans---yes, they want to bail out idiots who borrowed too much money for houses they could not afford--and they want to bail them out by forgiving their debt. God all mighty. I'm pissed off big time over this one. That's one of the most ridiculously socialistic tactics I've seen since, wait, last week!!!!!
(Can they do that to my law loan? Wait, I'd have to fall behind in my payments, right? No sweat. I can do that. So, if I go spend all my hard earned money on say, crack cocaine, beer, big trucks, hookers, fancy vacations, flashy clothes, alcohol, and drugs, and fail to pay my law loan, will the federal government then let me off the hook for, say, $75,000 of my law loan? What do you think? Let's try it, okay?)
Our country is going down the wrong path.
This is just wrong on every possible level.
And McCain fucked up big time tonight. He really failed on all fours. (Yes, I cursed. So sue me over it.)
He will not get my vote. (He had my vote up until tonight with his Resurgence Plan.) I'm so mad I took down my McCain yard sign.
And that is the disaster.
I'm a woman without a candidate to vote for.
Vote for the Sarah Palin part of the ticket!
October 8, 2008 - 01:22 ET by ScandimanI was never going to vote for McCan't in the 1st place. The only redeeming thing he ever did was put Sarah Palin on the ticket. As far as I am concerned I will be pulling the lever on Nov 4th For Sarah Palin and against Obama and the Stalinist MSM.

October 8, 2008 - 09:35 ET by SchnikeysI noticed the part about the McCain Resurgence Plan. Blatant socialism. It's like he doesn't even try to be a conservative...very likely because he forgot (or doesn't care) why the conservatives even insist on having their own party to begin with (all in the name of bi-partisanship- or rather, "post-partisanship." He's a "me-too" candidate").
I was about to buy a McCain/Palin bumper sticker, but I canceled those plans after last night's debate. Palin was foolish to join a ticket with McCain on it.

October 7, 2008 - 23:26 ET by dcullingIf we can fight harder. If we aren't under a police state by then. Think I'm overreacting? Look how often it's happened throughout history.
The usual death of a Democracy happens when a too big government with too high taxes causes the economy to collapse. Then there's a violent revolution and the masses install a leader with Dictatorial powers and the tyranny begins.
I submit to you that the violence has already occurred in the media raping of Sarah. Or it could be that we will have riots in the inner cities on or right before election day as a "vote for Obama or else" kind of protest.
It's pretty clear we are already in the middle of an economic collapse.
I fear with the most partisan leftist Congress in history, Obama will be given unprecedented powers to "solve" the crisis. "Solving" the crisis will of course require silencing all opposition.

Why not form out these potential ashes a massive conservative internet guild. 20 million users all dedicated to shaping opinion, keeping each other informed, debating finer points, endorsing candidates, raising money for someone such as Sarah Palin, one member at a time. If McCain loses now why should we allow our prinicples to die.
Man I'm a classical musician. I have dedicated my whole life to a form of music that most Americans think is fodder for broad comedy. But I believe in it so I lecture about it and I write music and tell people about how exciting it is...and I make a living at it.
If I can commit to that then why shouldn't we commit to what I am saying? There are 20 million Rush fans alone. Isn't that a strong enough base? Couldn't we turn that into 40 milion or 50 million?
If Obama wins and does everything we are predicting he will do are you prepared to just had him your homes and businesses?
Make no mistake. Barack Obama will bring communism to the White House, but he hasn't replaced those justices yet, and the dems are unlikely to have a super majority in the senate.
Let us communicate with our representatives. Let us band together.
Let us fight the oppression before it even has a chance to be set in place.
Rally for God's sake. It is time for at least virtual pitchforks and torches.
I intend to cast a proud vote for the more conservative ticket because there is at least one true conservative on the ticket.
If that ticket loses I intend to keep voicing my demands for liberty and capitalism.

Big Money
Words by Neil Peart, music by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson
Big money goes around the world
Big money underground
Big money got a mighty voice
Big money make no sound
Big money pull a million strings
Big money hold the prize
Big money weave a mighty web
Big money draw the flies
Sometimes pushing people around
Sometimes pulling out the rug
Sometimes pushing all the buttons
Sometimes pulling out the plug
Its the power and the glory
Its a war in paradise
Its a cinderella story
On a tumble of the dice
Big money goes around the world
Big money take a cruise
Big money leave a mighty wake
Big money leave a bruise
Big money make a million dreams
Big money spin big deals
Big money make a mighty head
Big money spin big wheels
Sometimes building ivory towers
Sometimes knocking castles down
Sometimes building you a stairway --
Lock you underground
Its that old-time religion
Its the kingdom they would rule
Its the fool on television
Getting paid to play the fool
Big money goes around the world
Big money give and take
Big money done a power of good
Big money make mistakes
Big money got a heavy hand
Big money take control
Big money got a mean streak
Big money got no soul...

McCain had me until his McCain Resurgence Plan
October 7, 2008 - 23:31 ET by attorneygirlFolks, I was supportive of McCain until tonight. Now I refuse to vote for him or anyone else. I'll write in my own name.
I cannot vote for him out of my own conscience.
Tonight during the most boring debate in the history of color TV, McCain presented--out of left field--his proposal for the American Home Ownership Resurgence Plan (the McCain Resurgence Plan).
He's an idiot. Really.
Here is the McCain campaign's actual news release on it:
AMERICAN HOMEOWNERSHIP RESURGENCE PLAN
John McCain will direct his Treasury Secretary to implement an American Homeownership Resurgence Plan (McCain Resurgence Plan) to keep families in their homes, avoid foreclosures, save failing neighborhoods, stabilize the housing market and attack the roots of our financial crisis. America’s families are bearing a heavy burden from falling housing prices, mortgage delinquencies, foreclosures, and a weak economy. It is important that those families who have worked hard enough to finance homeownership not have that dream crushed under the weight of the wrong mortgage. The existing debts are too large compared to the value of housing. For those that cannot make payments, mortgages must be re-structured to put losses on the books and put homeowners in manageable mortgages. Lenders in these cases must recognize the loss that they’ve already suffered.
The McCain Resurgence Plan would purchase mortgages directly from homeowners and mortgage servicers, and replace them with manageable, fixed-rate mortgages that will keep families in their homes. By purchasing the existing, failing mortgages the McCain resurgence plan will eliminate uncertainty over defaults, support the value of mortgage-backed derivatives and alleviate risks that are freezing financial markets.
The McCain resurgence plan would be available to mortgage holders that:
· Live in the home (primary residence only)
· Can prove their creditworthiness at the time of the original loan (no falsifications and provided a down payment).
The new mortgage would be an FHA-guaranteed fixed-rate mortgage at terms manageable for the homeowner. The direct cost of this plan would be roughly $300 billion because the purchase of mortgages would relieve homeowners of “negative equity” in some homes. Funds provided by Congress in recent financial market stabilization bill can be used for this purpose; indeed by stabilizing mortgages it will likely be possible to avoid some purposes previously assumed needed in that bill.
The plan could be implemented quickly as a result of the authorities provided in the stabilization bill, the recent housing bill, and the U.S. government’s conservatorship of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. It may be necessary for Congress to raise the overall borrowing limit. [End of quote.]
McCain is bailing out irresponsible folks who bought overpriced homes with adjustable rate mortgages and who did not live within their means!!!!!
He is bailing out free-spending, losers while folks like me who ate tuna while getting a law degree, drove an old car (and still do!!!), and who worked my ass off to build a law practice and have a home I can actually afford and made payments on WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THESE LOSERS' OVERSPENDING.
I'M SICK OF IT.
I'M NOT GOING TO DO IT.
I WAS AGAINST THE BAIL OUT.
I AM AGAINST McCAIN's RESURGENCE PLAN.
What I need to do is start a pitchfork and torch business and sell like hell to everyone else who is mad enough to march on Washington and throw all the bums out onto the street.
I would have voted for Sarah Palin. But I cannot now vote for McCain. I just can't.
I just took the McCain yard sign out of my yard.
It's going in the trash.
And I'm a true Republican.....
But McCain is not.
He should have fought like a mad dog against the bail out.
He just lost the election tonight.
This county will go to hell, and I'll just have to make more money by working harder so I can pay for everyone else's irresponsibility.
Jesus.
I'm not getting the Perot shaft again I'm voting for Mc RINO

You are not alone...after the global warming crap, he did this, another bail-out got free housing bill at the expense of us tax-payers out here who have worked, slaved, paid our mortgages, sacrificed ...everything..
Now he had the audicity to add 300 billion to another 1 trillion (because that is what the bail-out bill is eventually going to reach) to us...all for voters...
The problem is, most people here, think McCain is just pandering, he really doesn't mean it...

No...
October 8, 2008 - 00:22 ET by dcullingNo. You obviously don't understand the difference between Socialism and Marxism. Read a little about the horrors Stalin perpetrated on his citizens and then make the same statement.
Socialism is what countries like France, Germany, UK ect. have.
I'm sorry, maybe it's a flaw of mine, but I don't respect opinions when they appear lacking in certain knowledge. Total government control has ALWAYS caused the greatest pain and suffering the world has seen no matter what it's called; Dictatorship, Monarchies, Marxism, Theocracies, ect.
I also realize it's a flaw of mine that I tend to slap people in the face with what I think is the truth. I've lost jobs doing that so don't expect me to change on the Internet lol.

October 8, 2008 - 00:44 ET by bigtimerI don't expect anything of you...it is the internet...nobody asked you to change.
I do understand the difference between the two, I just didn't and don't feel like getting into which evil do we pick here...
In my opinion, one of the biggest mistakes we make in this country is to keep on voting for the lesser of two evils, this election is the worst in my lifetime of voting...
I just hope whatever happens either way, people wake up, send a strong message elect and vote for a real conservative next go around, that is if a real one is elected in the primaries next go 'round..
I'll vote for who my conscience tells me to...not because of popular opinion to go along to get along.

Heart or head?
October 8, 2008 - 02:26 ET by dcullingI would suggest those that died for our freedoms would expect us to follow our heads when we pick a president so we don't lose the freedoms they fought for. Following your heart is fine for love, beauty, music, art work and such, but not for picking a president.
Where will your self respect be when a president Obama pulls out the troops in Iraq too soon and millions die in the ensuing civil war and violent overthrow by Al Qaeda? How would that honor those that died for our freedoms there?
Don't forget that Governor Palin is the true conservative to vote for. I suspect McCain's main interest is finishing the war and will step down when it's done.
not McCain
October 8, 2008 - 05:13 ET by AgnosticI have only once voted for the lesser of two evils therefore I have rarely voted for president. I will not vote for McCain. In the end I may vote against full Democrat control of the government, against the indoctrination of our young, against Marxism, against universal health care and against the control Soros' & Sandler's money allows but I will not vote for McCain. The lack of the elective process to put up more than a couple of decent candidates in the last 30 years shows there are many flaws in the system.
In the end only one of these will get me to hold my nose and vote McCain and that is to prevent a one party ruling in Washington led by our current democrat leaders. Obama is an outsider to the Pelosi/Reid group but his support will be bought with pro-minority social give-aways and the leaders of our current Congress will be the ones who will truly control Washington and the msm will happily ignore the further decline of American society.
Sorry - a little depressed this morning. My favorite pub may be going out of business next month.
I agree...
October 8, 2008 - 09:02 ET by dcullingI agree the situation sucks. There were too many true conservatives in the primary and they split up the conservative vote allowing the most liberal candidate to win.
However, I'm really voting FOR Sarah Palin just on the hope McCain is really only interested in ending the wars successfully, with honor and with the least causalities and then getting out of Sarah's way.

October 8, 2008 - 00:00 ET by PrairieSkyBoy do I, to coin a phrase made famous by Bill Clinton (am I really quoting him?), "feel your pain." I'm not trying to be flip...I really do feel your anguish and disgust at this situation.
I agree with everything you said, except that you can't now vote for McCain. I understand and agree with your anger and disillusionment about this "resurgence plan." My husband and I have worked our fannies off to achieve what we have too, and the idea that some irresponsible idiots may possibly get bailed out by MY tax money, is horrendous. But...as opposed as I am to this program, I still cannot bring myself to sit on the sidelines and not vote at all, which to me, would be like aiding and abetting an Obama and Co. win.
I truly respect your position on this, but the thought of Barack Obama becoming president of this country is so abhorrent to me, that I just can't bring myself to sit this election out.

October 8, 2008 - 00:39 ET by VinncyGI can't believe McCain let Obama get away with half the comments he made. I would absolutely like to see the questions that Brokaw decided weren't good enough for what ever reason. Not one question to Obama's questionable past and associations.
This election is in the tank, unless the silent majority gets out in droves we are in trouble. As much as I dislike McCain I despise Obama and it would be criminal not to cast my vote against him.

October 8, 2008 - 00:48 ET by Travis NoodleI had to watch the debate on CNN. I need to take a bath now and wash all the liberal off of me.

Obama's attempts at trying to sound "nuanced" turned him into mash potatoe mouth.

October 8, 2008 - 01:26 ET by ckc1227I didn't watch the debate, but I'm guessing Obama continued tying McCain to Bush, which has been a running theme throughout his campaign. Has anyone noticed that it seems to be ok to tie MCain to Bush, but tying Obama to Ayers, or Wright, or Hamas, or pretty much anyone else is "guilt by association" and is off limits? Funny how that works out, isn't it?

This is a fight for the next 4 years of policy. Are you guys gonna give it to the Dems....do it!! Think your 401k sucks now??? Just wait.
I am NOT going to hand over power to the Democrats without a FIGHT!!
I have my own mini-fights with LIBERALS...here is what I did last week:
I needed to register to vote to change my address. I saw a guy registering people to vote in the Fry's Electronics parking lot. OBAMA crap all over the place...his shirt, hat, car, "vote here" written on back of an Obama sign, etc.
I gotta get this done anyway...so I might as well mess with this guy! I pull up and parked my car right next to his little card table. It's 1pm cst...right during Rush's show...which I am listening to as usual!
I get out...crank up the radio so I...and he...can hear Rush loud and clear while I'm standing by my car. I get the form...I play stupid and make him explain every line on the registration..he has to raise his voice to get heard over Rush.
I start filling out the form on the trunk of my car...thus keeping him there to answer all of my made up questions.
I can tell he is getting irritated by having to listen to Rush...so I'm really going to mess with this guy!!! Right as I get ready to sign it...I "mess up" the signature...
OOOPS!! I gotta start all over again!!!
I made this LIBERAL listen to 25 minutes of Rush Limbaugh!!
The look on his face was PRICELESS!!

October 8, 2008 - 09:55 ET by JasonPAnd I disagree with most posters here stating McCain lost this one outright. I'm looking forward to reviewing the transcript of this one, as I think it will produce numerous gems with which to attack Obama's platform. Now, whether McCain does this, I have no idea, but hopefully Palin will pick up his slack.
Obama stated he would encourage national conscription for Americans either in the Peace Corp/Americorp, and the military. I think he did this when asked the 'sacrifice' question.
In addition, while stating that earmarks 'only' make up approx 18B of the nat'l budget, he then went on during another question to make a big deal of the US spending approx $16B in Iraq per day. He actually stated that these earmarks are no big deal.
Obama outlined how he would continue to pressure allies and proceed to talk directly to enemies such as N. Korea and Iran. He made an absolute gaff by stating he would support 'democracy' in Pakistan. Knowing full well that democracy there means an islamic fundamentalist gov't, already armed with nuclear weapons. Good thing our nuclear pact with India has been completed.
He flubbed the question regarding Russia, and about protecting Israel. I have no idea what he was saying about the Holocaust, but it was garbled and incoherent.
He confirmed, as McCain charged, that he would FINE parents for not making sure their children were insured. He confirmed he would raise taxes on SMALL Businesses, and tried to minimize the effect by stating only a small percentage of small businesses make over $250K/year. Well, they're still small businesses, which confirms his ignorance of how businesses operate.
Please, before the conservatives on this site abandon McCain and state that he lost this debate, please reconsider, and read the transcript. What Obama is planning is hostile to this nation and the world. I know that McCain is not our ideal candidate, but I have faith that the conservative members of the house and senate would be able to minimize whatever actions he takes regarding climate change, economics, etc.
Not giving up either...
October 8, 2008 - 10:30 ET by tsigToo much at stake....there was one moment towards the end that I feel McCain could have pounced and chose not to....
When Obama started with the ridiculous line..."Some of you may remember 9/11." And the proceded to state how Bush asked the country "to shop" after 9/11, McCain should have replied that he recalled Bush giving that same speech at ground zero but that he remembered that it helped calm our fears, the speech that reminded us that we were Americans and that we could/would overcome the tragedy because of the fact that we were Americans...and that Republicans and Democrats alike applauded that speech.
He should then have said that someone else was making their opinons known on that very day....a friend of the Messiah named "Ayers"...and he could have reminded everyone that his friend, the man in whose living room he chose to kick off his political career was quoted in the New York Times as saying that his group "didn't do enough" in their bombings on the Pentagon....
Imagine the look on his face....imagine the MSM outrage....would have been priceless...and a "game-changer" in my opinion.
