After last week's upset heaven in college football -- or hell depending on what side you were on! -- what will the big upsets be today? How about my son's Huskers taking down Mizzou?
What other games should we be looking at?
Talk about upsets, could the top teams in both leagues get knocked out in the first round of the baseball playoffs? If the Angels and Cubbies are gone, who becomes the favorites to go to the World Series?
Anything else on your sports mind?

Bye Bye Cubs
October 4, 2008 - 10:39 ET by ricklailTo answer one question, I say Dodgers all the way. When they finish off the Cubs either today or tommorrow they head east to get the Phillies. I think it is going to be the Dodgers and Red Sox in the World Series.
Looks like OSU-Wisconsin is the priemer match up of today. Alabama could have one of those "trap" games with Canetucky. DOOK traveling down to Altanta to play the jackets. We will see what they are really make out of today.
Tarheels play U Conn at 7 in Blue Heaven. Game on ESPN2.
Has Al Davis just completely lost it? I want to be careful here because dementia is no laughing matter. But to fire Kiffen like he did. Then turn around and ask for the press guide because because he knows nothing about Tom Cable. He also rambled on about Bobby Patrino. That is what didn't make any sense. The Radiers are not going to return to their glory days until he is going. That should make the Chief, Bronco and Charger fans happy.
I heard a Lions fan on SRN Radio this morning griping because Matt Millen got the boot. I think he had been drinking the same water as Al Davis.

October 4, 2008 - 10:42 ET by wiwfGO CUBS GO!
Other than that, I got CSU beating UNLV @ Fort Collins and Penn State winning. Other than that, I hope the Flufflaoes of CU get creamed by those longhorns!!!

What about AF vs Navy?

And to echo your first statement...

Nope
October 4, 2008 - 11:19 ET by AFCloneIowa State...the most inconsistant team in the conference.
In my days (15-20 years ago) we used to say we were a drinking club with a marching problem. Also believed that the fans came to see us, not the team.

Speaking of bands
October 4, 2008 - 11:36 ET by ricklailWho is going to play On Wisconsin today? The band has been suspended I think because of a hazing incedent.
My senior year in hs was the first time our school had a band. We called them the Blue Devil Standing Band because they couldn't march. They'd walk out on the field and play the national anthem and walk back at half time to play Proud Mary and the school song which was the same on the Notre Dame fight song with the words changed.
Maybe the crowd can hum it
October 4, 2008 - 11:42 ET by AFCloneWait, doesn't the Wisconsin band play for the Packers as well? Who will do half time tomorrow?
PLAYOFFS
October 4, 2008 - 10:56 ET by lastconservativeinmaThe Redsox are the favorites to win it all. Very deep everywhere but the bullpen which isn't bad. They are the champs and after watching the unbeatable Angels you can see how good they are. The American League will walk away with this again. Much better baseball in the American League east than anywhere in baseball... Now all they have to do is figure out how to beat the Ray's. Also a very very good team.
The Curse of the Angels?
October 4, 2008 - 12:08 ET by Del DolemonteEven though I am a decades-long Red Sox fan, I have to feel sorry for the Angels. They have been cursed playing the Red Sox in the post season since 1986. After Donnie Moore served up a fat one to Hendu after being 1 strike away, it was all over-especially for Moore, who would kill himself 3 years later.
As for the Red Sox' chances against Tampa Bay, a lot of people forget that this past season, the two teams basically split; with the Rays winning 8 games and the Sox 7. And as the BoSox have shown, they can win when they have to.
Upsets - K-State over Texas
October 4, 2008 - 10:58 ET by rimskyUpsets - K-State over Texas Tech.
It won't be the same, this year.
October 4, 2008 - 11:12 ET by pbthinkerThis afternoon, Florida State and Miami play another football game in, what in years past, have been some exciting games. Both schools are rebuilding this year, but the game could be good anyway. For one thing, many of the players know each other, since they competed against each other in high school. This game, for what it's worth outside the state, is for bragging rights for the next year. It's Red Sox/Yankees, it's Cowboys/Redskins, it's RedState/BlueState, it's all that and more.

October 4, 2008 - 11:28 ET by ricklailBeing a Tarheel fan I wish they'd both lose. But, that is not going to happen. To me this game is about as exciting as Lenoir-Rhyne playing Elon.
Help me out on the Blonde. You can't spell scum without UM!
Wow Rick

Don't see any upsets on the horizon.
-Bama will clobber Kentucky.
-Gators will win big over Arkansas.

Held to 132 yards of total offense.
Now THAT's the Dook I know and love!
Upsets?
October 4, 2008 - 11:27 ET by BlondeWell, it wouldn't be too much of a big upset, but I'm picking Vandy over Auburn, just because it makes Phat Phil even worse. I really feel for the Vol fans. UT eeks out the win over Northern Illinois, ya think?
Another huge rivalry game today, FSU vs. Miami, a rather meaningless game in the overall scheme of things. However, for my Nole friends...it can be somewhat of a heartbreaker (wide right!). Here's hoping the Geezer Bowden is successful today.
Nebraska over Mizzou? Dream on, but it would be sweet.
GO GATORS!

Congrads on the win, Blondie!
Anyone watch my Pitt boys smack down South Fla Thursday night?
Rog, perhaps they hired zippy to call their plays.

October 4, 2008 - 15:38 ET by BlondeAfter last week, we had a little pent up scoring to do, methinks.
Arkansas is up and down, but always worthy of respect....the West is no easier than the East with LSU, Auburn, and the newly resurgent Alabama (glad to see their program restored, it's horrible to have a history of greatness while getting your butts whipped every week).
Didn't see Pitt...I'm lucky to get away with one or two games a week.

Disturbing news
October 4, 2008 - 15:45 ET by ricklailI juut read on the Ihigh NC site that the best tight end in the state has verbally commited to Tenn. This kid is just a sophomore. Do you think I need to write him and break his heart and tell him that Phat Phil is not going to be around in 2 more years?
You really ought to Rick
October 4, 2008 - 16:00 ET by BlondeSpare the kid the heartbreak of psoriasis.
I don't know what it is, but my total disdain for Phat Phil is almost out of control. Poor Vol fans.

Good call with Vanderbilt
October 5, 2008 - 00:19 ET by Carl KolchakGood call with Vanderbilt beating Auburn Blonde. I had to vomit after that though, because I just can't stand Vanderbilt. There coach is a good guy, and I'll admit they have a very good team as much as it pains me to admit it.
What a week to go 3 for 3
October 5, 2008 - 10:15 ET by BlondeThanks, Carl. Sorry about your discomfort.
Vandy's on top of the SEC East....first time since the 50's, who woulda thunk?
FSU/Miami was a screamer, too.

October 4, 2008 - 15:50 ET by ricklailWhere have you been all week? What about Mendenhall running that mouth and then getting hurt?
Heard a lot of comments about the Pitt win on SNR this morning. But, many of the callers think Wanstedt (?) needs to go. Did anybody really believe that USF was just one rank below USC?
Howdy Rickster! Bummer
October 4, 2008 - 16:12 ET by Roger the ShrubberHowdy Rickster!
Bummer that Mendenhall got hurt. the Steelers were forced to re-sign the Dump Truck.
As for Wannstedt, watch this interview at the end of the Pitt highlights and tell me, if your kid was being recruited by Pitt, you wouldn't want him to go there!
