ST. PAUL, Minn.-- CNN's John Roberts spent a few minutes chatting with a woman about convention paraphernalia, but had only a few seconds to talk to NewsBusters. (see video at right)
We caught John Roberts on the street outside a security checkpoint for the Republican Convention this morning. Editor Matthew Sheffield asked Roberts for his thoughts on Gov. Sarah Palin's remarks about the liberal media. Roberts dismissed the complaint as a "convenient thing to do." When pressed by Sheffield if Palin is wrong, he didn't answer and continued walking away.

Yes, forget what well over
September 4, 2008 - 14:04 ET by kgYes, forget what well over half the people in the U.S. says. As usual, reporters think the public knows nothing.
"Forget change, I want improvement!"
Roberts was smart to do so
September 4, 2008 - 14:07 ET by Dan The Man 2Roberts was smart to do so because he might have said something stupid not that he doesn't say stupid things anyway.

Give 'em a teleprompter
September 4, 2008 - 14:14 ET by Mica the MagnificentMatt should have shoved a teleprompter in his face that read, "We are biased, we suck and we were finally caught."
He probably would have instinctively read aloud from it.

Allow me to expand on this sentence.
When pressed by Sheffield if Palin is wrong, he didn't answer and continued walking away-in shame.

Convenient = I'm scared and can't think of anything else to say

News reporters becoming a news story. Interesting.
I am laughing so
September 4, 2008 - 15:11 ET by bigtimerI am laughing so hard...that was such a good job Matthew....Roberts spoke volumes really!
By the way as an aside to others...I gotta' get out of here for a bit...I just heard Brokaw ask Howie Dean how he thought Palin did last night...he said he thought she did pretty good the first half of the speech...the second part she sounded like CHENEY!
I say is that bad somehow...Help is on the WAY!
I will never forget that speech he made after he was named VP somewhere...well, she is our help on the way Howie..and you are afraid...very very afraid...as you should be, because you are toast!

Speaking of convenient...
September 4, 2008 - 15:20 ET by nkviking75Hey John, isn't it convenient to brush off the complaints of your critics rather than deal with them? You news types never answer the complaints. You either get a blank look on your faces and say "Moi?" or you attack your critics. It's about time you gave substantive answers as to why we're wrong.
When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.
Don't try this at home.
September 4, 2008 - 16:02 ET by superconJohn is the professional journalist here you see. That is why he scoffed at the amateurish attempt of the untrained public to try and interview a big shot like him.Someone might have gotten hurt as relaying information is a serious job and is best left to the experts.
He didn't seem to like it much when someone just came up to him and shoved a microphone in his face in front of a camera he can't control. How many times do you think he has done the same damn thing to others? He's John Roberts dammit! He is paid millions of dollars for his opinion and he just won't give it out for free to some nobody.

I haven't seen the subject
September 4, 2008 - 16:36 ET by fitzfongI haven't seen the subject of an interview run away in such an uncomfortable and cowardly fashion since Eric Shawn had to chase around Benon Sevan, that U.N. Oil-For-Food scumbag. Got something to hide John Roberts?

The difference between
September 4, 2008 - 17:32 ET by deerjerkydaveThe difference between conservatives and liberals: conservatives complain about liberal bias in media, the end. Liberals want to censure conservative views through FORCE by creating the "fairness doctrine."
This alone should be a wake up call to liberals that maybe their side doesn't care so much about free speech after all.
The reality is that conservative talk radio IS the balance. Liberals have their forum, called network news. Conservatives have their forum, called talk radio.
Even if we gave them the benefit of the doubt...
September 4, 2008 - 19:20 ET by ThalpyEven if we gave them the benefit of the doubt, and they had no axe to grind, no calculating agenda, no Leftist Jihad, they would remain terribly biased and oblivious to their considerable shortcomings.
