For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: half of the House Dems might vote for Hillary at the convention?

Rep. Loretta Sanchez says she’s happy for the chance to vote for Hillary Rodham Clinton at the Democratic National Convention — and she predicts that as many as half of the Democrats in the House could join her. Just how many former Clinton supporters will vote for the former first lady during the symbolic first ballot is anybody’s guess, but each of them will be called upon to do so — whether they want to or not.

Voting for HIllary

I doubt many of them will, It would not be smart politics. Things are disarray for the Democratic party right now and there is a chance they could actually lose this thing.

The last thing they need now is to show the Dem house members are not united behind Obama.

Real life video games are cool

I know ya'll think I'm stark-raving nuts,

I know ya'll think I'm stark-raving nuts, but I'd say Hillary's chances of being the dem nominee are at the very least even as things currently stand.

I think Barry-O giving the Clinton's two days of the DNC was a major screw-up on his part.

Tee, hee, hee.  :-)

-Dave.

Dave

I don't think you are nuts. I have said that I will believe Hillary has given up when the lights go out in Denver and Obama is the winner. Her and Bill are not going down that easily. For one she won the right to have a vote when all that was going to happen was Obama's cornation. Giving them the first 2 days was a big mistake.

From what I can tell from his little chat with Warren was not a great sucess. He used too many complex answers. I just think there are lot of Dems, especially in this state, that know he can't win here.

Be kind to your kids. They'll be choosing your nursing home.

I'm sorta with you on this

I'm sorta with you on this one.

My gut tells me that there is a raging, vicious battle going on in the dark, smelly back rooms of the top levels of the Democrat Kingpins.

Boiled down, it comes to who has more political power in the D's. Is it the race baiters --Obama's army, or is it the gender brats--Hillary's army. The third ingredient of the poisonous Democratic stew would be the environmental fearmongers, represented by the flatfooted Gore. But it seems he's sorta in the background at this point.

And the MSM, philosophically grounded in one or more of these elements of the D's, is tangled up in its own underwear as it tries to decide whom they really, really want to support, ultimately. Which element will truly advance the revolution?

One thing for sure: as soon as the D's ( in Denver) begin to sequester and lock up in cages the more extreme proponents of any of these three groups--gender, enviroment or race--it will be the best television programming of the year. And it will reveal the D's for what they really are.

The major media report only half the news. Why are they surprised they have only half the potential audience?

Hillary has no shot at

Hillary has no shot at getting the nomination, UNLESS the Democrat goal is to lose elections for the next 30 years. They need the black vote, and taking the nomination away from Obama guarantees they will not get it. It will be a landslide in November if they do.

I hope they do, but, I don"t think even Democrats are that dumb. They may lose the election with Obama this year, but "stealing" the nomination from him will cost them elections for years to come.

Don't care.

  Don't care. Don't care. Don't care.

The Democrats permanently lost me when they turned on our military men & women. David Horowitz rightly calls them the party of defeat. As a 20 year Navy vet, I am completely turned off now.

Ok, I do care a little, here is how much, I will list a few good things about democrats... Oh look a fly landed on my keyboard geogndeggadoofigflnnmbnmbmsfsksslkshg/ad/.d,faad.df224wr,..667u0u-sf Rats! I missed.

Call your closest Democratic US Rep

And urge them to vote Hillary! <insert witty signature here>

Deadly Storm?

I know you all are not affected by TS Fay...but really, I have Fox on and they're making it sound like a CAT5 is heading in...."deadly storm"...."slamming South Florida"...."evacuating the Keys" (touristas only...d'oh).  The Fox guy in the Keys is totally insulted because the residents are nonchalant...they're not running around like idiots and pulling their hair out.   Gosh, 50 mph winds, fella!

Here's the local panic.

No different than here in

No different than here in Galveston last week Blonde. The only reason I left and stayed at my son's on the mainland is that I live on the 4th floor facing the beach and it's impossible to get a generator going here if I lost power. The heck with that heat. At any event, we got .43 inches of rain! And we needed the rain. The winds were nothing as well. All the Houston stations were using their typical storm hyperbole...makes you sick. Hell, Houston needs to stay put in a storm and let the folks on the coast get out. They are 50+ miles from the beachfront.

By the way, do not get caught cussing in a Wal-Mart out loud in Galveston County, you will get arrested, and you might get arrested by an arson investigator! In Texas they have the power to arrest! And he did .... for cussing out loud!...LOL

The Houston perspective

C-Rex - I was in Houston at the time and it amused me to see all the TranStar signs lit up: STORM FORMING IN GULF/ HURRICANE FORMING - FILL UP YOUR TANKS.  And all Edouard amounted to was a bad rainstorm.

I was working at night at the time and slept right through it as it passed. Both Dolly and Edouard were treated with overreaction.

The Olympics are now under way in Beijing.  May the people of Beijing get thoroughly sick of hearing The Star Spangled Banner.  May the Beijing Olympic Committee run out of U.S. flags for the medal ceremonies!  USA!  USA!!  USA!!!

Re: Wal-Mart

The Wal-Mart Greeter (priceless)

A very loud, unattractive, mean-acting woman walked into Wal-Mart with
her two kids, yelling obscenities at them all the way through the entrance.

The Wal-Mart greeter said pleasantly, "Good morning, and welcome to
Wal-Mart Nice children you have there. Are they twins?"

The ugly woman stopped yelling long enough to say, "Hell no, they
ain't.  The oldest one's 9, and the other one's 7. Why the hell would you
think they're twins? Are you blind, or just stupid?"

"I'm neither blind nor stupid, Ma'am," replied the greeter. "I just
couldn't believe you got laid twice. Have a good day and thank you for
shopping at Wal-Mart."

Geez, rackie!

Good one.

I may have to lift that.

Blonde

Yesterday my daughter called to tell me that the Navy had put all their bases around Pensacola on Hurricane 4 watch. I have no idea what it meant. But by the afternoon the NHC had moved the track further east. The lastest from the Weather Channel was to make landfall around Tampa, cross the state coming out at about Jacksonville and then heading up to see us. I have never given much stock to the forecasters. I'd say you folks in Broward County need to be ready for anything. We will be here. I don't think the storm will have enough open water to be a CAT 5.

Be kind to your kids. They'll be choosing your nursing home.

The weather guessers

That's what I've called them for years (particularly the night before I want to go fishing...they call for no wind and calm seas, yet I lay awake all night listening to the wind howl!).

Well, I have these nifty accordian shutters, purchased at great expense, which have been the best insurance against a major storm.  Five minutes to batten down the hatches, so natch, no need for them.  But when it looks like there's going to be a blow, I smugly close them in high heels and a suit while the neighbors hammer away with their plywood!

I'm glad I'm not on the West Coast...wierd stuff happens on that side of the state when it comes to hurricanes.

I like that, weather

I like that, weather guessers. They use the SWAG method for predictions-Scientific Wild-Assed Guess.

I feel like Noel. The libs are slopping all over themselves when a major storm occurs hoping they can blame Bush for it. We didn't hear a thing about FEMA's response to Flyod when Clinton was president.  Or Bertha or Fran.

There are 2 good things about a TS/Hurricane. After the skies clear they are the most beautiful and deep color of Carolina Blue. The surf fishing is fantastic if they allow you on the beach. Sorry but I get sick on a boat.

Be kind to your kids. They'll be choosing your nursing home.

 Ricktail, I've caught some

Ricktail, I've caught some of my best reds ever in the surf when a storms brewing! And we still need rain!

B

B,

As the media's coverage of Katrina signaled the end of the Bush presidency as well as Republican control of government, liberal press members will continually hope that every tropical storm will become another disaster they can exploit for political gain. Really makes you sick doesn't it? ns

NS

It's totally disgusting.

I think this is somewhat akin to the old hippies protesting Iraq, trying to relive their "glory days" protesting Vietnam.

Navy Hurricane conditions

These are usually based on how far away timewise the hurricane is expected, reverse order, 4 being longest, 1 being very soon.

They also come with instructions on what type of figurative hatches need to be battened down.

Mr. Noel, I went through a lot of hurricanes and one earthquake when I was in the Navy.

Hurricanes are one of the few forces of nature that can be accurately predicted 5 days out. You know what the instructions are for those 5 days? Store up lots of water and canned food and batteries.

Those in a hurricane's path should have lots of empty milk cartons in closets to store up drinking water from the tap. And fill a bathtub for cleaning/flushing water.

Everyone has canned food in the cupboard. That can of squash that you had a hankering for a year ago? That will keep you from starving.

That is why I am still disgusted with the Katrina coverage. No one should have been thirsty or starving.

As for the drowning, if you would have turned down the sound on the tv and justed watched. You would have seen people WADING in waist deep water. Hardly an ideal depth in which to drown.

And the people that left their pets behind when they bugged out. Infuriating. I hate leaving the dogs alone for 8 hours when I visit the family.

Rush is right, Noel,

Rush is right, Noel, anything bad for America, is good for Liberals.

Storm Porn!

Storm Porn!

As far as half the house

As far as half the house dems voting for Hillary....well, I can't hide my natural skepticism, I will believe that when I see it.

Dear Dims & Disturbed Distaff

Standup or Shutup! We're tired of yer whinning!

How symbolic does the 1st

How symbolic does the 1st ballot vote become if she ends up with 40% or more of the delegates or god forbid (for the Dems) a majority.

Do the 'Demwits' really think she will just pass them along to Obama in that scenario?  Have the ever met the Clintons??

If this plays out as I think it could, especially, after Obama's awful performance last night I say grab the popcorn it is going to be a fun show !!!

Even if she does pass on the nomination I think the goal of getting her name on the ballot is to weaken him even more as a general election candidate so that she can clear the decks for 2012.  If a large percentage of Dems don't even see him as viable on a 1st ballot how are independents and 'Obamacans' supposed to see him as such.

The Ukraine ups the ante

I guess having lived under the yoke of Soviet-style communism for many, many years apparently has made the former sattelites a little more, um, daring than we are.

The Ukraine has offered up a Sov built missile defense site to us and our European allies, as well as threatening to terminate a Russian lease of a naval base at Sebastopol on the Black Sea.

We need to admit these nations into NATO now.   Russia can't intimidate everyone all at once, I suspect they're up to their necks in Georgia, the reports I've read is that their force there is a bunch of wild-eyed, undisciplined amateurs....looting and raping (same old Sovs, apparently).

B - I liked your idea of

B - I liked your idea of "joint maneuvers" with Georgia, with the US providing a flock of A-10s. We need the same thing for Ukraine.

"They're both doofuses!" --Mark Levin (speaking of Obama and McCain)

Well Free

We need to tell the Rusky's not only no, but hell no!  They're not going to stop in Georgia.

First we need to drill...take away their oil advantage.  Crippling them economically is the only thing that's going to wake them up.  Then we can deal with the rest.

But it's time to shore up the rest of the former Soviet states.  Quickly.

Here's something interesting from Georgia

I suppose Shawn will start whining and dreaming up Tom Clancy scenarios about why we should just let the sleeping bear lie.

B

That reporter has some real guts!

Meanwhile, you are correct. Drill! Drill! Drill! Also deny Russia entry into WTO and kick them the hell out of G-7 meetings.

I don't think Shawn is old enough to remeber the Cold War. He should see Reagan's '84 re-election ad which would tell him all he needs to know about how to deal with Russia.

"They're both doofuses!" --Mark Levin (speaking of Obama and McCain)

Just imagine if

We added Ukraine and Georgia to NATO and then repositioned our troops from Germany to Georgia, Poland, or Ukraine.

The Germans and Italians would love to have us leave and our troops would be in a better position on top of it.

Which REALLY needs protection-Germany or the pipelines from the oil-rich Middle East?

I hear you

But part of the point of keeping a force of ours in Germany is as a big reminder.  I'd hate to give that up.  Same for the Italians, but to a lesser degree.

A Reminder

Unconditional surrender.

Germany has changed

I understand.  That said, I really think the culture of Germany (and likewise Japan) has changed so much since WWII that I find it hard to see them reverting back.

I suppose it could happen.  But look at Germany's military and tell me that they are a threat to anybody.

Well, except France.

Just so you know...

I'm speechless. I'm overcome. The Messiah speaks.

anyone watching the Olympics tonight?

Did anyone else see the vaulting competition where the Chinese girl fell out of bounds and still won silver? That was such a crock. Did I hear correctly that they reversed it after the fact?

A Gold Medal night for "the suck"

I am watching the Olympics and unfortunately most of tonight's coverage has sucked.  Diving and gymnastics.  Yawn.

But now they are showing track and field so all is good.  I can't believe what a sprint powerhouse Jamaica is becoming!  Their ladies swept the medals in the 100m!!!

(Really.  Would it KILL NBC to show the Olympics in REAL TIME???)

 How come this has not

How come this has not been on anyone's radar?

Libya and the United States Thursday signed a compensation deal for victims of Libyan attacks and US reprisals, paving the way for full normalisation of ties between the two countries.

The agreement was signed by visiting US assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern affairs David Welch and Libyan deputy foreign minister Ahmad Fituri at the conclusion of a series of high level meetings.

Fiituri told reporters that inking the deal was "the crowning of a long process of exhausting negotiations" and added that "there was a desire on both sides to find a conclusion to this issue."

The deal will see compensation paid for US victims of Libyan attacks in the 1980s and of the US reprisals that followed, Fituri said.

Welch, too, was upbeat.

"This is a very important agreement. This turns a new page in our relationship," he said after the signing ceremony.

"This agreement signed today is designed to resolve the last major historical issue that has stood in the way of a more normal relationship between our two countries," Welch said.

"Under this agreement each country's citizens can receive fair compensation for past incidents. When fulfilled, the agreement will permit Libya and the US to develop their relations."

Eldorado Canyon

Why won't this get more play?

Because, silly, this shows that Eldorado Canyon worked, and that when terrorism is confronted by force, that it will back down.  Why would the media amplify those lessons by lending this coverage?
