For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Obamessiah mocked by British columnist!
And it came to pass, in the eighth year of the reign of the evil Bush the Younger (The Ignorant), when the whole land from the Arabian desert to the shores of the Great Lakes had been laid barren, that a Child appeared in the wilderness. The Child was blessed in looks and intellect. Scion of a simple family, offspring of a miraculous union, grandson of a typical white person and an African peasant. And yea, as he grew, the Child walked in the path of righteousness, with only the occasional detour into the odd weed and a little blow.
Is the media marriage moving towards an ugly divorce? Has the ether finally worn off, and press members once enamored with the illusion that was the Obamessiah are now recognizing there's nothing underneath the nicely pressed suit? ns

Swooning Over Princess Obama

The below is just a small portion of some great British insight!!
"To be fair, there are signs that light may be beginning to dawn in America. Despite — or perhaps because of — the saturation media coverage of Obama’s world tour, his poll numbers are showing no bounce."
Melanie Phillips, A Voice of Logic
July 25, 2008 - 12:10 ET by GothampcIf you haven't read her book "Londonistan" it is definitely worth getting a copy from the library. She is a Brit who is not happy with Muslims taking over the UK. Her articles are always logical and well written. Many of the ways that Britain has capitulated to the Muslims are things that we are beginning to see in the US.
Ms. Phillips was one of the first to report that when Prince Charles becomes king, he wants to change the monarch's title to "Defender of the faiths" and that he plans to have two coronation ceremonies, one for Church of England and one that Muslims can attend.

July 25, 2008 - 13:55 ET by motherbeltThat is a great article.
Phillips comments that Obama does nothing to disabuse people of the idea that he is a Messiah.
She is right. In fact, he plays into it. How else are we supposed to interpret his "This is the moment" attitude? All the wonderful things that were going to happen because "this is the moment." What moment? The moment when he unofficially became the Democratic nominee. Oceans receding, plantet healing, people finally being taken care of......(Are you listeneing Bill Clinton??? Even YOU did nothing!!)
His "We are the ones" schtik is just a thin veil for "I am the One." It's the Imperial "we". The only reason others get a share in it is because they are smart enough to recognize HIM.
I am so glad that I have been busy with family and grandchildren visiting, and so have not seen all the swooning coverage. Because even the bits I have seen here have me running for the duct tape!!

Obama; Anti-Christ Type
July 25, 2008 - 10:50 ET by ricklailAfter his speech yesterday in Berlin it left no doubt in my mind that Obama is a type of the anti-Christ. (I said a type. No one knows for sure.)
What do I base it on? People slobbering all over him and worshipping him. (Call it what you want but I call it worship when people look to a man for their hope.) His call to remove “walls” between Christians, Muslims and Jews. (No true born-again Sprit filled Christian would ever accept Islam or even mention it.) His idea of a one world united-re: one world government like the EU. (If any of you know anything about Robert Muller this is a page right out of his one world playbook, World Core Curriculum Manual. Also see his “citizen of the world” comment. ) Did I happen to mention being a liar too? (The walls were was brought down in Belfast when actually more walls have been built.) He is black. (This may be a stretch but Jer. 13:23 reads: Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard his spots? If you run the word leopard in the Bible it refers several times to this beast.)
No one is going to change my mind. I just see too many signs of this. All I am doing is taking Biblical prophesy and matching it to what is happening with the rise of Obama. Remember again I said a type of the anti- Christ because even the angels do not know who this person will be.

Suddenly the sound of a loud klaxon horn and everyone walks to the base of a huge rock-like structure. Massive stone doors open and a number of the beautiful people walk into the structure. When an adequate number have entered, the massive doors close, those inside never to be seen again. Muffled sounds from inside resemble those of feasting on flesh. Everyone slowly walks back to resume their life of bliss and plenty.

July 25, 2008 - 11:40 ET by candanceI was telling RD here yesterday about my friend in England. She told me this was coming. Apparently Obama has treated some of the European/UK media the same as he treated The New Yorker and they're getting annoyed.
This friend of mine is a flaming lib who hates the war in Iraq and thinks Bush should be impeached. When I asked her about Obama's speech in Berlin, she actually said "so he can draw a crowd to give a rousing speech in Germany - Hitler did the same."
The MSM is only showing us the adoring fans, the folks who love him, the good parts. But apparently not everyone in Europe is buying it.
Still with that said, I don't look for Americans to wake up until it's too late. At work I see little old ladies coming in with Obama T shirts - nothing from the BBC could dissuade them. July 25, 2008 - 12:23 ET by MrDebaterWell, the day has come that every intelligent Republican knew was inevitable. The desperate attempt for the dems in congress to finally get even for the impeachment of Bill Clinton. Hearings have started this morning that will pave the way for impeachment of George Bush. Smart Republicans knew that dems would never rest until they got even. Since 9-11 the dems have been lying and distorting the facts, slowly building the lies till they have finally become truth to the uninformed public. So now the circus begins...the last 6 months of the Bush administration are going to become the biggest circus of loony dems(suffering from Bush derangement syndrome) doing everything possible to impeach before it's too late...the dems are going to make code pink look like a knitting club. I can't wait....maybe after the dems are exposed the public will come to see that with dems...the party and the power come before country and honor.

July 25, 2008 - 12:45 ET by expatriotCure,
As a bit of a cynic I give the dhimmocrats a little more credit for seeming to do stupid things at dumb times. Obambi is a weak candidate when you really look at him and the dhimms know this. Impeaching Bush, or rather at least holding hearings will distract the uninformed Americans and allow Obambi to keep sounding smart while reading a teleprompter. On his own he will commit Hari Kari.
True. That is a good
July 25, 2008 - 13:04 ET by Cureboy675True. That is a good point. If people are obsessing over whether or not Bush will be impeached there won't be as much attention paid on the presidential race.
I would just hope that the American people had the sense to say "Who gives a damn?"
If this starts becoming the lead story each night, I will be very disappointed in the media and the Congressional crackheads.
It will be a lead story
July 25, 2008 - 13:29 ET by expatriotCure,
The MSM is invested in denegrating the Republican party. They have not figured out that the Republican party is not totally conservative. Look at McCain. Conservatism drives them nuts because conservatives take care of themselves and don't look to anyone for a handout or assist.
They will make this the story of the year and keep running it. Just look at what they have focused on before with Republicans and the passes they give to the dhimms. And yes I am being disrespectful to the dhimms. Anyone who will sell out America is deserving of derision and disrespect.
OK. Well I wouldn't say I
July 25, 2008 - 14:35 ET by Cureboy675OK. Well I wouldn't say I am selling out America. And I think sometimes people need a "handout" or some assistance in order to get back on their feet. My mother certainly did.
But if you need to disrespect me because of those beliefs...Proceed.
well cureboy
July 25, 2008 - 14:44 ET by candanceAs I've said on here before, there's a difference between needing a boost to get yourself going and relying on the government to solve everything for you.
Like, say, passing out "economic stimulus checks" every six months to get the poor to depend on them. This is communism in its most basic form: forcibly taking money from the successful to give it to the others. If they really wanted that money to stay in the economy they'd just leave more of it in our paychecks to begin with, and not go through this song and dance of collecting it to pass it back out.
It doesn't have anything to do with stimulating the economy. This is flat out buying the votes of the poor and getting them used to a crutch from the government. Get them so dependent on that check they won't think twice about taxing the rich. THIS is the kind of government handout we are opposed to.
And for every Democrat supporting the new checks, I better not hear another word about the deficit cause you know very well our government doesn't have an extra billion dollars lying around to do that.
Candace, I agree with
July 25, 2008 - 15:04 ET by Cureboy675Candace, I agree with you. The rebate checks are pointless. My entire check was spent on gas money to drive around the country going to Cure concerts. The only thing I stimulated was the oil companies...And the last I heard, they weren't exactly hurting. And if the point that was trying to be made was about that, then I agree.
But the argument I often hear that welfare is somehow Marxist and evil and only useful for people who don't bother to take care of themselves...That infuriates me. Because there are some people who wouldn't survive without it.
I don't want to get into a long self-pity, looking-for-sympathy sob story. But for my mother, things suddenly changed in my family and she needed it or else we would have been homeless. It was never something she was proud of. And she only took it until she could afford to take care of us on her own, which involved working two jobs, mind you. And in later years she taught us to turn around and help other people who were down on their luck.
And then to hear something like "Well only Conservatives believe you have to take care of yourself". Whatever the hell that means. Sorry...Very sore spot for me.
and therein lies the difference
July 25, 2008 - 15:18 ET by SouthJersey1953"And she only took it until she could afford to take care of us on her own" That is it. We don't have a problme with people that use welfare the way your mother did. We have problems with the ones that WILL NOT work because they can 'get it free' by staying home. There is a HUGE difference.
Oh I don't disagree with
July 25, 2008 - 15:31 ET by Cureboy675Oh I don't disagree with you. There are definitely people that abuse the system.
Perfect example: Last June we had a nasty storm come through that cut power to 30% of the city for a couple days. The wise people of FEMA decided, a couple weeks later, to issue $200 worth of food stamps to anybody who had food that spoiled because of the power outage. And what did you need to collect these food stamps? A picture ID and signing a form saying you lost food. That was it.
Well you can guess what happened. Lines...In multiple locations...That streteched for hours. Thousands of people. It went on for days. It was one of the most disappointing things I have ever seen.
One of my neighbors works for the state of Nebraska...And she told me people would call asking, "Where do I go for the food stamp giveaway?" Food stamp giveaway. Unreal.
So absolutely the entire system needs to be reformed and improved. There will always be people who will take advantage of the system...If you let them.
But I don't believe that government assistance itself is inherently wrong.
Yes!!
July 25, 2008 - 15:46 ET by candanceBy golly you're on your way to becoming a Republican yet. ;) Go tell that story on DKos and watch them attack you for making up lies.
I spent much of my younger days working in customer service and I saw that stuff all the time. People taking government rebates for electric bills and spending half the cash on smokes and booze. People using foodstamps to buy lobster, shrimp, steak, organic fruit, stuff I couldn't afford myself. I know a couple who get their check every month, party nonstop for a week, and then beg for food at churches until the next paycheck.
Personally, I think everyone who supports our current welfare state should be forced to work in a grocery store for six months so they can see the abuse themselves. All too often people think you're exaggerating.
And it infuriates me because so many others go hungry for not knowing how to work the system.

July 25, 2008 - 15:39 ET by candanceThe problem with welfare is that theory is so far from reality. I think a lot of conservatives would be more supportive if the system was really used for temporary relief until someone got working again. But in the real world, stories like yours are few and far between. 80% of welfare recipients are lifetime members who encourage their children to learn how to deftly use the system. And whenever conservies talk about reforming the blatant abuses, all the sudden we're being mean to the poor. No it's not about being mean to the poor - it's about having accountability so the most is gotten out of every tax dollar. Yes there are exceptions to everything, but cureboy you have to understand that your mother *was* the exception. So don't get too upset when conservies rail against welfare. We don't always have time to stop and add a disclaimer.
Thanks Candace. And I'm
July 25, 2008 - 15:53 ET by Cureboy675Thanks Candace. And I'm sorry if I got overly sensitive about it.
Believe me, I get plenty upset about the people who are on the system for years and years and don't even care or choose to do anything about it.
Personally, I don't even know how a person could have no sense of pride that they would want to live off somebody else while they do nothing. Absolutely foreign to me. I will never understand that. I could never live off the system if I knew I didn't have to. I mean, its just a pride thing.
explanation
July 25, 2008 - 16:08 ET by candanceYou talk about it being a matter of pride, but that's the basic premise that has disappeared. There's no shame or stigma to it anymore.
You heard your friend tell you about all the folks who enthusiastically called about getting free foodstamps. No guilt. No shame. No one stopping to wonder where that money comes from.
These people sincerely believe they are owed something. Democrats have done a fantastic job of painting the wealthy as evil Monty Burns who deserve to see money taken away from them.

From what the hotel security guard is stating, Edwards was pretty shaken up by being "caught".
And this guy was their possible nominee ... LOL.
Looks like the story is getting legs.

MAd-boy Kucinich is getting his Impeachment chance
July 25, 2008 - 14:06 ET by c5thenThey are debating his Impeachment article of President G.W Bush in the Judiciary Committee today.
With any luck, this will end like Mike Nifong's persecution of the Dule Lacross players.

Yes, he's brought to you by the same ignorant type of constituants that brought us Louis Stokes and Stephanie Tubbs Jones.
Kucinich's 10th District gene pool needs to be drained.

July 25, 2008 - 20:44 ET by stratmanJust in from AP: Obama's Wailing Wall written note taken and revealed. Rabbi says it is wrong but AP blithfully reports the contents and image of the note.
Alledgedly, the note was taken by a Jewish seminary student, the type of person who would know how wrong it would be to take the note in the first place!
While the written word is usually more formal, "Obama's" prose are so unlike his spoken words that it reeks of ghost writing.
I SMELL A RAT!
http://www.yahoo.com/s/923567
Sidenote: The purported note appears to be in too good a condition. The edges are crisp, without any wear on any side from rubbing against rock/sand. Maybe it's just poor image quality or Obama didn't work it too hard into the Wall.

question for Noel
July 26, 2008 - 11:35 ET by sarcasmoWould you be in favor of increased margin requirements for all speculators, or just oil speculaltors? Some of us feel the CFTC has been failing for quite a while on precious metals, for example. My official prediction is an eventual failure to deliver just like we saw earlier in London for copper, followed by an increased budget for the CFTC despite their failure to listen to people like me or Ted Butler...
