MRC Director of Media Analysis and NewsBusters Senior Editor Tim Graham appeared on FNC's "Your World w/Neil Cavuto" earlier this evening. The topic: modern liberal campaign bias and how the public often goes against the media's favorites. [audio available here]
"Notice they're not attacking Obama, they're attacking Obama's biggest base of support," Graham noted of the latest John McCain Web videos about Sen. Obama, which lampoon the media's love affair with the Illinois Democrat.
You need "go back no further than four years ago" to find a similar political love affair that backfired, Graham added of the MSM's support of Sen. John Kerry in 2004.
Even so, this election cycle reminds Graham of Clinton '92, one occasion where the media's favorite won, even though he "barely skated by" to election, helped in part by a strong third-party ticket.

GHW Bush could have won easily if he had stuck to his no new taxes pledge, kept his promise not to sign the quota bill and had made a concerted effort in 1990 to get a Republican Congress by painting the Dems as the tax-and-spend gridlock mongers and pork pushers they were (and are).
But he compromised, and got barrel-rolled for it. And we the people suffer for it.

It seems to me that the intensity of this political love affair and the resulting grotesquely open and blatent bias is unprecedented in the modern history of journalism.

Btw...if a Dem was Prez during the WOT and a repub was saying what Obama said today in not listening the Generals, especially Petraeus...he would ignore them and withdraw no matter what the outcome...the MSM would be in an absolute uproar...even though they detest the military themselves.

Or if they are just coming out of the closet big time for Nobama,,,
I think I'm going with the latter, my hope is that now that they are so over the top. The average joe and joette will recognize them for what they are and stop relying on the msm.
I hope this is one big backfire..

The Debates
July 22, 2008 - 17:53 ET by KC MulvilleIf I was McCain, campaigning against increasingly impossible odds and a media stacked ridiculously against him, I'd put all my money on the first debate. I'd keep as much advertising money as I could into TV ads to air right after that debate.
Here's why. The media is not going to allow Obama to be touched. They will cover for him, excuse for him, and shield him. The only time that Obama will have to speak for himself, and have to answer questions that his aides haven't scripted, is during that first debate. The only free shot McCain is going to get is that first debate. The subsequent debates usually just reinforce whatever impression was made during the first debate, so getting off on the right foot is crucial.
Now I'd be willing to assume that the media is going to give Obama the questions ahead of time, so the questions from the media won't count. McCain will have to hit him when he's replying. And McCain can't go for a cute joke, or a poignant anecdote. It'll have to be hard, direct, and right on target -- a Luke Skywalker Death Star shot.
Obviously, that's the only time the media won't be able to protect Obama, and he can be exposed for the lightweight he is.
McCain was a fighter pilot. He should be used to that kind of pressure.

They need Brittney, Madonna, or Paris to do something so then they can show real news stories again. It seems the social conservatives are looking elsewhere for their fix possibly the internets and it's wealth of informative websites.

Obama does not have a sense
July 22, 2008 - 19:27 ET by savvyconsumer7Obama does not have a sense of history and he does mangle the facts, but the media focuses on his basketball skills.
At what point does the MSM lose credibility with the masses on this issue ... and people look for alternative sources of information? I think that that change has begun to take hold, in some circles.
Over the course of the last year, Alan Keyes has talked to supporters about being blacklisted by the MSM. He believes part of the problem in gaining traction has been that the public will not believe what they are told by their neighbor, unless it is confirmed in the press. We need to get past that. Keyes tells supporters that since the MSM will not cover Keyes, supporters have to become the media ... spreading the word of his candidacy person-to-person, in a grassroots fashion.
The people have a God-given right to self-government according to the founding fathers, yet today we do not trust one another to share political information, unless it is corroborated by the MSM. I think that implies we no longer have self-government ... but an electorate that is simply manipulated to action by our elites, and none other.
Since the people hold power, in America, it's a huge deal if we are being duped.

The irony is just too much.

Conspiracy alert! Coup brewing?
July 23, 2008 - 12:16 ET by Kenny BunkportI am very much afraid that there is more than a love-fest going on with Obama. I believe the media is laying groundwork for a coup d'etat .
They will spend the next few months establishing how much more popular Obama is than McCain. They will hammer in his lead in carefully selected polls. They will have Obama the shoo-in by election day.
Then if McCain wins, the media will accuse fraud on a grand scale. They will use his pre-election leads and popularity as a basis. How could things come out differently, except through fraud? The NYT will probably even file their own lawsuit.
The media has been toying with this idea for the last two elections. They are so desperate and unprincipled that this might finally be it for them. They have been getting bolder of late. They might actually try to negate the election process to get their way. I'm scared.
At the very least, expect a fiasco that would make Florida 2000 seem like a little misunderstanding.
A gun in your hand beats a cop on the phone.
