For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: the final Democrat primary frontier.
Is this the end of the line for Hillary? What do you expect to happen tonight and tomorrow when Obama mathematically seals the deal?
Will she do something graceful like show up in St. Paul to concede the nomination to Obama? Is she waiting to strike an arrangement with the Obama campaign for it to pay her debts?
Or, is all this concession talk media wishful thinking, and Hillary plans to take this battle much further?

June 3, 2008 - 12:34 ET by KC MulvilleHey, mb ... did you see the item on Drudge about a guy in Singapore who was arrested for insulting a public official? He's an American citizen now, and he runs a blog out of California. He had some unflattering things to say about some local Singapore official. I was outraged by the story ... until I read where he went to a Singapore hotel, blogged where he was and his phone number, and dared the police to come get him. I'm all for free speech, and he shouldn't have been arrested, but how dumb can you be?
As for Steyn, yeah, I'm following the story. I like Steyn a lot. And you're right - this is what happens to democracy and freedom when elites try to surgically remove ideas they don't like.

Ian Hunter, eh? Saw him live a few years ago with Ringo's All Starr band. He played his song that was later approriated as the theme for Drew Carey's show, "Cleveland Rocks". Great stuff!

Ortiz might be out for the season, right?
I liked that Cleveland tune, too. Much better than that "Moon Over Parma" tune Drew used when the show was real young. Didn't the Presidents of the USA play that Hunter tune for the show theme?
Sadly, Yes
June 3, 2008 - 15:29 ET by Del DolemonteYes, that was the Buckner game. But all is forgiven, he came back to Fenway and threw out the first pitch at this year's home opener. Got a standing ovation.
Reports are mixed on Ortiz, if he needs surgery he's done.
Hunter wrote the song, but the Presidents did it for the TV show. Interestingly enough, both versions are on the Caery show soundtrack CD, along with the short and long versions of "Moon Over Parma". Sadly said CD is out of print, but can be found used online.
I also liked Drew's second theme, The Vogues' "5 O'Clock World".

Obama, Pfleger, Wright and Chicago politics
June 3, 2008 - 11:13 ET by QueenMumI found this editorial in the Chicago Tribune very enlightening.
I'd like to point out the following, in particular:
"Father Mike is as seasoned as any Chicago politician, which makes his recent amateurish misstep all the more puzzling.
Father Mike just didn't get it. He didn't understand that Chicago-style political savoir-faire goes only so far. Maybe he is having difficulty comprehending how much things have changed since his old friend Barack Obama became a presidential candidate."
This is what I believe to be the primary problem for Obama. He represents the politics of the City of Chicago, not the U.S. as a whole. I think it's important that McCain and the Republican party get busy with hammering Obama on his lack of experience and national perspective. The problems our country faces at this moment in time cannot be addressed or solved by a "community activist". Let Obama run for mayor of Chicago. I suspect he'd beat Dailey in a landslide. For the life of me I can't understand how Obama managed to skip out on paying his political "dues" and rise to the level of the Dem candidate for POTUS.
P.S. A friend of mine from the Chicago area said that Pfleger is a major thorn in the archdiocese' side, but because his parish is so successful, George is reticent to do much more than slapping his wrist whenever he gets too much negative attention. If the archdiocese were to actually put the cuffs on Pfleger, they would lose out on the financial support of the large number of parishioners at St. Sabina's.
Great Point Queen Mum - Barack = Chicago
June 3, 2008 - 11:30 ET by Dee BunkHe never cared about anything but Chicago as an IL politician. He went to bed with all the dirty Chicago politicians and political players and that his how he became our IL and then our National Senator. The fact that he talks so much about changing Washington Politics is a joke. What's he going to do, Change it into Chicago type politics? Chicago's the worst there is. It's run like a Crime family, not a government.
I guess I should be happy, because if he is President it will be a big boon for IL with all the paybacks he will be giving people. Most of it will go to Chicago, but he'll owe Blagovich too.
I live close enough and frequent Chicago enough to still benefit from money he'll be giving to the City, I'll be totally disgusted when he wins, but at least their is a small bright side. Not really though, I don't consider even that a bright side because these career politicians here will be even stronger.
I don't even know any Democrats who Like Blagovich. He's universally disliked, but he still won re-election in a landslide because of the machine.
Barry
June 3, 2008 - 11:43 ET by iveseenitallBarry is black. Like many blacks, his color defines him. He changed his own name in order to connect himself more firmly to the "black experience". His mentors all came out of the culture wars of the '60s where it was better to raise your right hand with a black glove than to put your hand over your heart when the national anthem was playing. He was indoctrinated with this kind of thinking and this way of life. His wife also was. Now he's confused, but it seems to me he has chosen to be quite pragmatic about it. Step over anyone who will get in the way of your personal ambition. Say anything to get elected. However, once he is there, his "friends" will return and his upbringing will again consume his thoughts and actions. Like all communist, he will cover his true agenda with words like "change", "justice","freedom", but also "discrimination", "exploitation", "victims", etc. He'll treat the presidency with inner city activism. He'll lead the "cultural revolution" the communists have wanted for decades. And America will suffer greatly for it.

Since the media has been in the tank for Obama for so long...
June 3, 2008 - 11:25 ET by AJSHOPEwhy in the world would today be any different? I honestly think the media is doing everything it can to squash the dissent that is out there right now. Obama led in SD by double digits at one time and now SD has seemed to do a complete 180. What would be really bad is if the media actually told the truth and Hillary was actually planning on conceding and then the results come in and Hillary wins SD and Montana. Then right after that this tape of Michelle comes out. It basically states that because of demographics, Muslims will dominate Europe in a few decades. Canada did not have a constitution untill 1982 and it is a total farce. The province of Quebec has never ratified the document (imagine if the US constitution did not apply to 10% of the states-5.7 states according to Obama!). Only lip service is paid to freedom of speech. There is no gaurantee of property rights. The constitution even has a "notwithstanding clause" which basically states that parliament can make laws that overide the constitution. Total farce.
Muslims in Europe, Canada
June 3, 2008 - 21:23 ET by UnsaneA few decades seems a little fast. Foreign Policy and The Economist even point out that Europe is going Muslim at a slower rate than most think.
Nonetheless, I think this is a topic worthy of discussion, and I like to come at it from another angle: not that there are Muslim immigrants in Europe, but rather why they are there. So, why is Europe resorting to immigration? Answer: Nanny State Socialism. They could care less about the consequences of what they are doing: they want their Nanny States and they want them regardless of cost.

June 3, 2008 - 15:15 ET by Dan The Man 2They have a form of free speech, one that takes into account the public "good". In other words whatever the laws and courts decide you can say is ok. You cant in most European countries say anything bad about the holocaust like deny it or spout off Nazi policies. If you do they will throw your butt in jail. Freedom of speech is pretty much peculiar to teh USA, no matter what others say.
I used to argue that with Europeans who were shocked that anyone can say anything, not popular or against a pc protection, and not be arrested or stopped. Thier concepts of ownership and public properties are skewed also. I argued that protesting at a public homosexual gathering in a public place is perfectly legal while the opposition said it was illegal. I tried to argue the peaceful protest and the rights of teh public.

June 3, 2008 - 14:53 ET by sarcasmoOf Barr's denunciation of a couple of racist wackos. Also please note, even though conservatives want to link to LGF on the issue, most of the actual thinking on the subject seems to be going on at Reason's blog, which is where LGF linked anyway. Heh heh heh -- what a shock. ;) Ok, maybe the La Raza Carl Rove part is a bit shocking to some...

I'll admit it, I'm fixated on this graph...
June 3, 2008 - 16:41 ET by sarcasmoI can't get over it. What possible honest market explanation can there be for this? Why isn't the TV media covering this potential disaster (IMO)? How can an insurance market represent more value than the actual value of any underlying thing said 'market' could conceivably be insuring against disaster, or am I missing something? And who are these hyperwealthy counterparties taking all this risk that apparently didn't need to be insured-against a mere decade ago?

PS The NYT knows good and well that it's not "unregulated." The feds can visit with guns drawn at any time, believe me...

June 3, 2008 - 19:16 ET by R D HelmNot that it will help McCain much, as the MSM is about to unload everything they have on Sen. Cap-n-trade.
He will be knocked completely off his message right out of the gate, and will never be able to regain it. The MSM isn't going to let up on him, even for a second.
The man will be a 2" tall empty suit by November.
