MRC's Bozell on Obama Quitting Church; Senator's 11 Times on Magazine Covers

MRC President and NewsBusters Publisher Brent Bozell appeared on the June 2 "Fox & Friends" to discuss Sen. Barack Obama's decision to leave the controversial Trinity United Church of Christ and the fact that Obama has appeared on the cover of 11 news magazines since the beginning of the year.

Partial transcript below by MRC intern Peter Sasso [audio available here]:

STEVE DOOCY, "Fox & Friends" co-host: Brent, so things heated up when the Catholic priest a week ago said some crazy stuff there at the pulpit at Trinity United. But we should go back a little bit. Barack Obama initially joined that particular church because it had a huge power base and if he wanted to get established in Chicago politics, he had to join it.

BRENT BOZELL, Media Research Center President: That's right. I mean and it's now become the home for whack jobs. But, you know, you look at his resignation yesterday and you just ask yourself why does this man do things half way? Why can't he go all the way? Did he resign because there is something wrong with that church? No. In fact, in resigning, he said I'm not saying this. He said this. Very emphatically, that he absolutely refuses to denounce that church. If you absolutely refuse to denounce that church, why did you leave it?

DOOCY: Hey Brent, I would imagine you would say that Mike is wrong and the reason for it is the mainstream media is in the tank for Barack Obama.

BOZELL: Well, you took the words away from me. I had a news flash ready for you and for Gretchen, and for Mike, to explain this. They like him! I mean, -- I'm looking at this, at these covers -- ok, give the guy a cover because he is a new candidate on the scene, hes a new vibrant black. He has got a lot of support around there. Give him a cover. Give him a cover because is he winning. Throw in a third cover because, I don't know why. Eight more covers after that, come on!

Brent's Buddy

The fellow Brent has appeared with on Fox and Friends that last two times is a broken record of talking points. His answers are independent of the question.

Right. He immediately

Right. He immediately turned to John McCain.

"They all do it...it's politics." whenever a Democrat is nailed, they always have to have an equivalency on the Republican side. Nevermind that McCain hadn't been a member of Hagee's church for 20 years.

Brent brings up a great point. If you won't denounce it then why leave? But I think the answer is that Obama wanted to make it look he he was doing it for selfless reasons, not political..i.e. the press "harassing" church members, and ruining the..what was it he called it....reflective and contemplative atmosphere? (or something similar)

Now that's a comment that Michelle Malkin would call "snort-worthy"!

Update at 12:40... I just had Rush on in the car on the way home, and he's saying the same thing: Obama was saying it's because of the attention and harrassment etc. that he left the church so that he looks heroic and self-sacrificing.

Church??

Barry will never denounce this "church". It, after all, is not a church. It is a beeding ground for those who hate America and for American communism, which, by the way, began in Chicago in 1919. The media is turning a blind eye to what it is and what Obama is. They are not meeting their responsibility as a free press. Barry came out of this "church" to where he is today. Trinity and Obama are one in the same. If elected, God forbid, he'll find an excuse to return to his "roots". Wake up, America.

Who is Barry Sotero?

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

Does anyone here honestly

Does anyone here honestly believe Obama when he says he's leaving the TUCC because the congregants are being harrassed by the media attention?

BTW, Rev. Wrong is still alive and well on Chicago radio. And as long as his "voice" is still being heard, Obama has a problem. He can "no more distance himself from this church than he can from the black community" which he so carefully chose to advance his political career.

Thanks for the "cover story", Brent. Can anyone make a comparison to how often Hillary or McCain have graced the covers of the same magazines?

O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life! -

Does anyone here honestly

Does anyone here honestly believe Obama when he says he's leaving the
TUCC because the congregants are being harrassed by the media attention?

Anyone who believes that has to also know that, had he not run for President, Obama would have stayed in that church forever.

A column I read yesterday by a Jennifer Rubin (corrected) said that Obama has inadvertently let us see how he makes decisions, both political and moral.

Good point.

Did ou see Pfleger's non-apology

From CNN's website:

Pfleger apologized for his comments Thursday evening.

"I regret the words I chose on Sunday," he said in a statement. "These words are inconsistent with Sen. Obama's life and message, and I am deeply sorry if they offended Sen. Clinton or anyone else who saw them."

In other words, he's not sorry about the message he pushed, just the words and only if you were offended (if you weren't offended, then you're down with the struggle comrade!).  Furthermore, the words are inconsistent with Obama's political charades, but they're still accurate so I'm not retracting them.

Fr. Pfleger is employing 10th degree black belt political jujitsu here.

if they offended Sen.

IF they offended Sen. Clinton ???????

(maybe they didn't???)
