The following is from an MRC press release calling out the liberal mainstream media for covering up House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) recent remarks chalking up the success of the U.S. military in Iraq to the "goodwill of the Iranians." [audio of Pelosi's remarks available here]
Alexandria, VA-- Last Thursday, a collection of reporters and members of the editorial board of the San Francisco Chronicle sat down for a nearly 80-minute interview with Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, Democrat of California.
At the 62-minute mark, Pelosi slandered and demeaned the hard-won successes of our armed forces in Iraq, saying "Whatever the military success and progress that may have been made, the surge didn't accomplish its goal. And some of the success of the surge is that the goodwill of the Iranians -- they decided in Basra when the fighting would end, they negotiated that cessation of hostilities -- the Iranians."
No one at the Chronicle reported the Speaker's vicious slander. Nor did NBC, ABC or CBS, CNN or MSNBC deem it fit for broadcast, either Thursday evening or at any point on Friday. The vaunted New York Times likewise did not deem this fit to print.
L. Brent Bozell:
"The liberal media continue to shred its tattered integrity with this willful exclusion of Nancy Pelosi's atrocious remarks.
"The Speaker of the House of Representatives slanders our troops in Iraq, whose blood, toil and tremendous sacrifice have led to the great and growing success we have seen there, and the liberal media are silent.
"The Speaker's slur is clearly newsworthy. Why then do the liberal media steadfastly refuse to report Pelosi's comments?
"Perhaps because they know why it is newsworthy: because it so thoroughly damages the credibility and integrity of the person third in line to the Presidency.
"The media's cover-up of Nancy Pelosi's anti-U.S. troop comments is simply shameful."

Goodwill of the Iranians?
June 2, 2008 - 15:28 ET by jefflebowskiI've looked real hard but haven't seen any goodwill from the Iranians since they cowardly kidnapped our people in '79. There's a debt that still needs to be repaid. Real bad!
The more you hear from the Democrat leadership (oxymoronic), the more insane you must be to call yourself a Democrat. They have NO answers and really are the cause of most of the problems we experience today.
The US badly needs a dangerous enemy to kill off this kind of PC crap we are spoonfed on a daily basis. When the malls start exploding from Islamic suicide bombers, my guess is most people won't really be all that concerned with prisoner treatment at Gitmo anymore!

"Then, Madame Speaker, if American soldiers had kept being killed at the rate they were pre-surge, whoever our next President is would have had little choice but to remove all troops from Iraq. Now, we may even set up a semi-permanent military base in Iraq. So, I ask Madame Speaker, with what evidence do you base that statement on, and also why do you suppose the Iranians did so?"

Yes, but, don't you see? We have completely legitimate reasons to hate this woman, and Reid, with a passion. The left loons, hating Bush and "BushCoRegime" to their core, simply do not. So, we see them as utter fools. We don't "believe" or "feel" Pelosi and Reid are lying, we have proof, in front of us, that they are.
:p
I'll agree that some of the posts you put in your list were to the extreme, but again, we all see what IS and IS NOT the reality of Iraq, and that woman is making sh*t up. Simple. And I agree with Blazer, others, that it's totally treasonous, and disgusting.
Regarding Dee Bunk and BT, I think they're just exhausted with all non-conservatives here, polite as you are, or otherwise, as they've been NB'ers for a lot longer than I have and engage a lot more on here. So, don't take it so personally. I just don't play with them.

We seem to have to educate all liberals on the fact that war is NOT like starting a company, where you have a mission statement, and you check things off. War is not perfect, and people die -- in the words of Jack Nicholson from "A Few Good Men" (only the non-evil version of him) -- and the surge was implemented to pull us out of the awful daily/weekly/monthly high death toll taking place from 2004-2006, secure the country, and pave the way for us to WIN THE WAR.
The surge was amazingly successful, and we are WINNING. Naturally, I'm ecstatic.
I also feel the world is way more safe now than it was just after 9/11.... waaaaay safer. Taking down the Sadaam regime, in the heart of the poisonous Middle East, promoting democracy in the process, is so far looking like a genius move, IMHO.

Bush is ridiculed about the "9 minutes where he sat there and did nothing", and I just laugh. A) There was nothing he could do until he was taken away by secret service. B) I'm sure his brain was spinning a mile a minute, realizing the historical moment he was in, and how his presidency would now be defined by this, and he might have already thought beyond Al Qeada and Afghanastan in those moments, for all we know.
In the MSM, it goes completely unnoticed how there has not been a major sponsored terrorist attack in the world in 3 years, and if you don't include London (as it was a bit hodge-podge, even though it did kill 50-plus which is horrible) than more than 4 years (Madrid).
What Bush declared immediately after 9/11 was dead-on, and it was a challenge to the world to stop this Muslim extremist madness head-on: "You're either with us, or with the terrorists." He took a lot of flack for that one, as well -- among so many of his courageous stances -- and yet, again, he was absolutely right. That's a real leader.

There IS a reason why we import so much of our oil from Happyland, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, and so on, BEFORE we start tapping Mideast sources.

June 3, 2008 - 00:08 ET by NL207Answer me this: How much JP-5 does an F-4N burn in an hour at cruise? Now you know how much I like Loggie's.
F-4s

June 3, 2008 - 00:44 ET by NL207You can imagine how I feel about that. The succcessor to the F-4, the F-14, has now been retired by the Navy after a very long and successful career.
I can help you with the question though, the F-4N was the late version of the thin-wing/thin wheel Phantom. It mounted a pair of J-79's, dash 8's IIRC. They'd burn about 5000# per hour at cruise.
Price Price Price
June 2, 2008 - 23:41 ET by shawn228Well Unsane, since oil is zooming to new heights and average gas price around the nation is around 4 dollars, do you think we might start tapping some more, since we control those oil fields and all.
Have you ever heard of
June 2, 2008 - 23:44 ET by NL207Have you ever heard of transportation costs? It is not free to move goods or raw materials halfway around the planet.
Sure have NL207
June 2, 2008 - 23:53 ET by shawn228Just like Canada did not get put much effort in getting oil out of their tar sands because it was too expensive at 40 dollars a barrel.
Now that is at 138 dollars a barrel, it is a much different story.
Then why are you surprised
June 3, 2008 - 00:02 ET by NL207Then why are you surprised we don't import oil from Iraq? Our largest source of foreign oil is Canada, geographically next door.
Shawn, I am losing my patience
June 3, 2008 - 00:03 ET by UnsaneAgain, YOU DON'T GRASP THE CONCEPT OF LOGISTICS VERY WELL DO YOU???
(I am starting to lose my renowned patience.)
One, demontage is WRONG.
Two, there IS a very simple reason why most of our oil comes from Happyland, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Nigeria, and so forth, before we begin tapping Mideast sources. If you need help with understanding this, consult a globe, or better:
Flight time from the Middle East to the United States: 15 hours (estimate)
Flight time from YVR to SAT: 5 hours.
See where I am going yet or do I need to draw a picture?

I understand Logistics perfectly
June 3, 2008 - 00:07 ET by shawn228Of course we should tap for as much oil as possible, if Canada and Mexico will not pump more oil, we should be pumping more from Iraq and getting it to this country so the demand for oil will decrease, and so will the prices.
I would imagine at 138 dollars a barrell, filling up a tanker in Iraq "if we can keep the insurgents from blowing it up" It will be worth the price of fuel of getting to us by sea.
Shawn

Proof positive you don't get it. The oil in Canada and Mexico is the same price, $138. It's still cheaper to pipe it here than tanker it in from Iraq..

Not talking about domestic
June 3, 2008 - 01:08 ET by NL207Not talking about domestic sources. Congress and local governments acting in response to NIMBY and Enviro groups have almost completely crippled domestic production.
The basic premise is this: All oil is the same price in a market. Oil from locale A may be cheaper to you because it is closer to you. Oil from locale B will most certainly cost you more than oik from locale A if the transportation problem is more significant.
Ugh
June 3, 2008 - 00:16 ET by UnsaneYour penchant for thievery knows no bounds, does it? Is there a problem that you DON'T think stealing can't fix?
As much as you like the idea of raping a country for your personal benefit, I do not. I leave such behavior to the USSR and nations like it.
Now, if it is economically feasible, we could buy oil from Iraq...but what you fail miserably to understand is that there are transportation costs that are factored in. THAT is why we are more apt to get oil from Happyland, Mexico, and so forth, rather than from Saudi Arabia and other nations in the Mideast.
This also explains why most of the Middle Eastern oil powers the economies of Europe and Asia, not our continent.
Besides, the oil infrastructure in Iraq, though improving, has a ways to go to fully leave the grasp of the 1970s. Saddam Hussein didn't think much of capital improvement to the oilfields, and they have suffered as a result as technology blew his nation right on by. (Much the same thing is happening in Venezuela with disastrous results.)

Ugh
June 3, 2008 - 00:26 ET by UnsaneMy memory is quite long. Remember your very own forum topic where you asked if we should take oil from Iraq?
As I recall, there you said NOTHING about paying for the oil.
Now, that being said, you still are not taking even a millisecond to consider the costs of transfering the oil to Basra, loading it to a tanker, shipping said tanker to, say, New Orleans or Houston (I use them because they are noted petrochemical ports), offloading said tankers, and THEN shipping them to where they are needed/paid for on the North American continent. NONE of this is free.
Then, there is insuring the vessel, paying for its crew, registry fees, drilling the oil to begin with, etc etc etc.
(This, versus piping oil south from Happyland, or shipping it for a very short distance from Veracruz to Corpus Christi or Houston.)

the key thing to note in a
June 3, 2008 - 08:50 ET by BDthe key thing to note in a normal economy is that oil is produced in an unfettered market as it becomes economically viable to produce. In the 1970's many oil wells were located in my homestate of North Dakota and produced during the OPEC boycott..
Those wells were capped and no oil produced for the bulk of the 1980's and 90's because it was not economically viable to get the oil out of the ground at the relitively inexpensive price that fuel cost then.
But we no longer have an unfettered market since the enviros' have arrived. We are no longer allowed to do the majority of further drilling when optimum finds are made.
Regarding Canada and Mexico, they are producing that which the market allows at the current cost.
Everything I have read says the oil produced off the coasts and in ANWR is relitively inexpensive to get out of the ground and to market, but we are not allowed to go after it. Instead we are forced to seek more expensive solutions which further drive up costs.
Regarding the use of tankers, as anyone who has lived in Hawaii for any length of time can tell you, the cost of petroleum delivered solely by tanker is HORRENDOUS. Particularly the Hawaii Market which is not big enough to warrent a HUGE bulk carrier, but relies on smaller oil carriers that bring in enough to hold on the islands storage infrastrucutre.
Four years ago it was not unusual to find $4 a gallon gasoline there and I cannot imagine what it is going for now.
The oil produced in Iraq is going a shorter distances, mostly to europe and africa I believe. I am not sure where the Kurdish oil is going. Perhaps someone can tell me if there is a pipleine going out of that region.

2.) Actually, WE do not use much petroleum from the gulf comnparatively. In fact we use significantly more petroleum from Western Hemisphere sources such as Canada and Mexico. This is only logical since the transhipment costs are signficantly lower if it is in a pipeline than if it is "Tankerized."

I agree the media won't change. But if you remember after 9/11, the MSM initially tried the blame America approach but the PEOPLE wouldn't have anything to do with it. That's how Bush got into Afghanistan with so little opposition and why it's not as criticized. The PEOPLE wanted ACTION and they wanted REVENGE. The media never wanted any of that.
After a while the media was able to retrench and start the spin machine up again and the people's shock wore off. They went back to being fed a steady diet of BDS and the media went back to business as usual.
That was 3000 dead and we invaded a country. With 5 million dead it WILL BE a holy war. Not one country but an entire religion. The PEOPLE will demand it. The media will be completely powerless. It will be a juggernaut. And they won't be wanting to hear from an anti-American press because it will be a bloodfeud - not some sanitized, low-collateral military operation.

June 2, 2008 - 22:33 ET by BEGRUNTThat is such a scary scenario.....but your right, that is what it will take. A huge loss in blood and treasure. The last time Islam came this close to taking over the world was when they were turned back at the gates of Vienna. I cant remember the year, I think it was in the early 1500's. They waited patiently for nearly 6 centuries to try it again, and here we are. Unfortunately people dont learn from history, that is why we are always doomed to repeat it. It really is sad, this all could have been avoidable. We must remember they are VERY patient. Even if they dont succeed this time, they will patiently wait until another opportunity presents itself. If the scenario you present comes to pass, it will be a reckoning, long in coming.

I have always felt sorry
June 2, 2008 - 22:59 ET by Kenny BunkportI have always felt sorry for Neville Chamberlain. Most historians believe Germany was still militarily weak compared to Britain when Chamberlain signed the Munich Accords. If he would have gone to war with Germary, instead, he would have probably caused Germany to back down and Hitler to lose his government.
This would have probably cost Britain a few thousand soldiers. In hindsight we can readily justify that sacrifice for the 400,000 dead British soldiers and 20 million total deaths from WWII. But had he done so, without the crystal ball, he probably would have been hounded out of office for wasting British lives. He would be criticized for NOT doing the very thing we criticize him for today - making peace with Hitler. From a historical prospective, he was damned if he did and damned if he didn't.
Sometimes I wonder if by sacrificing 4000 brave soldiers now that we don't save many thousands in the future? Unfortunately, we don't have a time machine to prove these decisions out. We'll never know what Saddam might have done, that timeline is severed. Maybe George Bush actually did what we thought Neville Chamberlain should have done.
I do know that historically this senario has played on many occasions - to let a small fight go only to have to fight a bigger one later. Sometimes you have to make smaller sacrifices early, so that you don't have to make big ones later on. This is something that I don't think liberals ever understand.
