For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Hillary plays the gender card, and blames her second-place showing on sexism and misogyny.
Is there anything to this, or is this just another smokescreen by the Clintons to blame their horrible campaign on others? Are Hillary's high unfavorable ratings in polls due to her gender, or because she's really a dislikable person? Has Hillary in anyway been mistreated by media for sexist or misogynist reasons, or is this just another Democrat behaving like a sore loser?
On another level, isn't it interesting that one Democrat candidate is having difficulty winning the nomination supposedly due to racism while the other Democrat candidate is suffering from sexism? Aren't Democrats all supposed to be feminists and totally impartial about such things as race? Isn't it supposed to be Republicans that are the sexist, misogynist racists? Don't these complaints by the candidates suggest that the left have been lying to the public for decades about the Democrats being the more open-minded, equal opportunity, socially responsible, politically correct Party?

It's the victim card

I agree Blonde but
May 25, 2008 - 11:07 ET by Dee BunkIf this race were between Hillary and McCain the media would be all about forwarding this narrative. They like Obama better just like they like Dems better and she is treated like Republicans are treated because of it. Not quite as bad as Republicans but definitely not fairly.
At the same time that they are running around criticizing her for this, they are promulgating the whole "racism" thing to everyone who doesn't vote for Obama. Obama doesn't have to outwardly espouse that theory because the media do it for him.
I can't stand Hillary or her tactics, but they are no different than Obama's or the MSM or the rest of the Dems. The sexism, racism, homophobia, hating of poor people cards are always fair game against the candidate they don't support but when the candidate they don't support brings it up then it's race baiting etc...
Dee
May 25, 2008 - 11:18 ET by BlondeI truly despise the incessant playing of the victim card. It's a tactic that total losers use. (Think Al Gore & John Kerry and their whining that the elections were "stolen" from them).
Hillary and Obama merely continue the paradigm. That way, when they lose, they won't feel so awful about their bad ideas and crummy campaign tactics.
Losing losers all the way. And Hillary's insistence on playing this out to the bitter (oops, I said the "b" word) end will hopefully destroy the Clinton influence on American politics.
David Gregory, do you know which damn network you lie for? ~ Uncle Jimbo, @Blackfive
I whole heartedly agree Blonde
May 25, 2008 - 11:48 ET by Dee BunkIt's a disgusting tactic and the regular tactic of all Dems and their accomplices in the MSM. Dems never have a problem with it except when it's used against a candidate they support.
I mean just look how obsurd it is that Hillary is being attacked for it at the same time they are all using the race card for Obama.
They are all every bit as disgusting. Romney and Huckabee never complained of the "religion" card being used against them even though it clearly was (by the MSM not other Republican candidates or their campaigns).
The MSM use every tactic possible to get rid of candidates they don't like and then claim "professionalism" in not forwarding true stories like the swift boat veterans who they dismiss as "divisive".
The MSM and the dems have no moral fabric. The ends always justifies the means for them.
GOP Strategy Missing In Action
May 25, 2008 - 11:16 ET by zeestephenWhy did the GOP fail to preemptively bring up racial and sexism issues after each Democratic primary election?
Each time Obama won, Republicans should have innocently and persistently asked if Hillary lost because of sexism.
Each time Clinton won, Republicans should have innocently and persistently asked if Obama lost because of racism.
The Democrats would have been forced to deny, again and again, that there is bias in their Party.
Numbers like 92% of blacks voting for Obama would have made Democratic denials look absurd.
Bingo!
May 25, 2008 - 11:00 ET by Mark_for_SenateAs a group, the democrat party is the largest compilation of racists, sexists, bigots and homophobes ever in existence. Further more, all of the things they accuse Republicans and all conservatives of is merely projection of WHAT THEY ACTUALLY ARE, only on a scale of at least ten time worse. They must be removed from EVERY level of public service, because they are simply incapable of serving the public. They thrive on serving themselves, and are quite good at it. Wake up America!

is this a new group seeking to milk america through the americans with disabilities union or are they simply anti capitalist whiners trying to curb commerce and business. my suspicion it is the later. i suspect it's all a bunch of crap and they are just anti business. considering i like to dabble in radio broadcasting, and knowing how radio signals propogate, there are many other types of radio transmission that operate in the same range and bandwidth as wi fi decades before and nobody had any complaints, but attach it to commerce and business and now you get a group of people who don't like capitalism and business and they cook up a scheme to try and find a medical reason to hamper it.

Indeed. And as Josh McDowell points out, education by itself is no solution. May 25, 2008 - 12:57 ET by Dee BunkThey don't understand that people don't want to be taken care of by others, they want to be responsible for themselves. Even people who think they want to be taken care of when the going gets rough (the ones liberals prey on) feel unsatisfied and unproductive no matter how little or how much education they have. That is why uneducated people riot here (they are trapped by government care) and it's the same reason highly educated people riot in France. You can temporarily placate those people by giving them more handouts, but it does nothing to quell the underlying dissatisfaction.

Another classic Meet the Press
May 25, 2008 - 11:39 ET by krendler" Isn't it supposed to be Republicans that are the sexist, misogynist racists? "
That was pretty much asserted as *fact* during this morning's Meet the Press, as in, "if you think these racial and gender issues are bad now with Democrats, wait until we get into the general election when independents and republicans are involved." Enthusiastic, seemingly synchronized head-nodding ensued around the table.
Another week where the panel consisted of 6 liberals and Russert. 60 minutes of Hillary bashing and when they stopped bashing Hillary, they bashed McCain for playing the "military service card" in his response to Obama's attack (they were all disappointed in McCain for resorting to that), applauded Obama for not backing down from McCain, and condemned "racist whites" who aren't going to vote for Obama. And Gwen Eiffel introduced us to the laudable concept of "race pride" - the dynamic that kicked in following Iowa that allowed Obama to secure 80-90% of the black vote in every state that followed.
And to think it's only May and the general election campaign hasn't even started yet! I'm wondering what shows like Meet the Press and Hardball will have devolved to by October. Perhaps a giant "Defeat White Racism - Vote Obama 08" banner hanging in the background for viewers who can't take a hint.
It would be interesting to compile data on "positive and negative time/comments by candidate" for a show like MTP and present it as a pie chart(s). On this week's show, the negative pie chart would be about 70% Hillary, 30% McCain and, literally, 0% Obama.

And lots of corporations are picking up on "being green," for instance. Or being young and hip. At least giving lip service to liberal talking points. And it's all just for corporate profits. So I think lunatic's original point has some merit. The ad encourages people not to patronize those "mean old corporations" and go with Direct TV's new "caring" corporation. The fact that it's not a true picture doesn't mean people don't fall for it. It's advertising, after all.

I was so glad when she wrecked in the pits. I wouldn't have to listen to anymore about her the rest of the race. WRONG. They would not shut up about her. At the end of the race they even had to show her walking through the pits still in her uniform. Any other driver that was out of the race had already changed to their street clothes. They wonder why I hate ABC sports when it comes to IRL racing. Enough with Danica. I think she finished 21st.
When I turned to Fox to watch the pre-race show for the 600 they were talking about her. My gosh this is NASCAR not IRL. Enough already. I just hope that some team owner don't bring her to NASCAR as a novelty. She'll be a big a bust as Dario Francetti (?).

May 25, 2008 - 20:24 ET by upcountrywaterAnticipated pace of Mars surface operations
-- If operations proceed
relatively smoothly, the first eight to 10 days after landing will be a
"characterization phase" of checking out and understanding the performance of
the spacecraft's power and thermal systems, as well as the robotic arm and other
instruments.
-- At the end of the characterization phase (date tba), the
first sample of surface soil will be delivered to the Thermal and Evolved-Gas
Analyzer onboard Phoenix.
-- Analysis of soil from the surface in both the
Thermal and Evolved-Gas Analyzer and in the Microscopy, Electrochemistry and
Conductivity Analyzer will likely take 10 to 15 days if all processes go well.
After that, each additional sampling cycle will reach a deeper subsurface level,
in increments of about two to three centimeters. At each different layer,
collecting and analyzing samples is expected to take 10 to 15 days, barring
operational difficulties.
-- How soon the digging reaches the expected icy
layer will depend on how far below the surface that layer lies. Estimates in
advance of landing range from two to five centimeters. If the ice is at the
deeper end of that range, the first analysis of an icy sample could be in July
or later.

Well it hit me just right after that successful landing and he said that...I must of laughed til tears came down, yet at the same time such a feeling of anger and sadness at the same time, don't know what word for that there is....it was priceless actually.
Well, by now I am sure you know how many years I have written about oil drilling/refineries self-dependency ect ect....so it hit me just right.

It worked in the 70's but NOOO ,more parts for the same thing!
Lockheed Martin is working on a new type of system called a Stirling Radioisotope
Generator. Like RTGs, the Stirling system would convert heat from decaying plutonium
into electricity.
Where the two approaches differ is that the Stirling system has moving parts
-- vibrating pistons that make much more efficient use of the rare and costly
plutonium-238. The potential drawback of such systems is that their moving parts
could cause interference problems for spacecraft instruments.
