For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: McCain won't play by Obama's rules:

The shorthand, widely repeated by the news media, is that the Republican candidate must not "Swift boat" Obama. That amounts to unilateral political disarmament by McCain. McCain is not about to disarm. His campaign has no intention of fighting this battle on Democratic turf. During the more than five months ahead, Republicans will explore the mindset of this young man who is a stranger to most Americans. That includes his association with the Chicago leftist William Ayers, who has remained unrepentant about his violent role as a 1960s radical. This will not be popular with McCain's erstwhile admirers in the mainstream news media, but America has not heard the last of Bill Ayers in this campaign. Indicating what lies ahead is the McCain campaign's plan to bring in Tim Griffin, a protege of Karl Rove, who is a leading practitioner of opposition research -- digging up derogatory information about opponents.

Is Novak right? Will McCain hit Obama and hit him hard, or will he cave to media requests to play nice?

Have you seen where the Dems sent the Ag bill to Bush with 34 pages missing? Seems the bill sent to him was no good. They are scrambling to revote and send the full bill to him. I wonder if any of the Reps will have the balls to sustain his veto this time.

McCain Will Cave.....To McCain

McCain is a Neo-Conservative in the traditional meaning of that word.

He is hawkish on military and foreign policy issues.

Beyond that, all his domestic policies are center-left, and he is more or less comfortable, and quite often completely comfortable, with most Democratic Party positions.

Since McCain and Obama are now competing for the same voter demographic - Independents and centrist Democrats -  McCain is constrained in how hard or how often he can criticize Obama.

Obama has a critical advantage in the general election:

Philosophically, most Democrats agree with Obama, although some parts of that coalition may dislike Obama personally, and other parts of that coalition will be deeply depressed by Obama's victory over Clinton.

McCain has a more complex problem in the general election:

In order to win centrist Democrats, McCain must continuously attack Republican Conservatives to establish his bona fides.

McCain's antipathy for Conservatives is genuine and deeply felt.

Unlike Obama, who needs only to soothe hurt feelings in the Democratic Party, McCain must gamble that Republican Conservatives will not defect because "they have no place else to go."

McCain has lost his gamble with me.

I will not vote for that man.

In six months we'll find out if McCain's strategy was brilliant, or if it leads to a GOP catastrophe.

I think McCain is willing to hit Obama hard.....

...in one area: foreign policy. I think McCain feels his candidacy is entirely wrapped up on national defense, foreign policy, and Iraq, and I think that he will go after Obama aggressively on those fronts.

"women and minorities hardest hit"

If Obama can't get Bill

If Obama can't get Bill Ayers to renounce terrorism, who thinks he has a chance of getting Iran to renounce terrorism? Maybe he just hasn't had time to have a real chat with Ayers.......

Is McCain A Good Communicator?

As much as I would like to believe that McCain is a hard hitter, I just don't see it.  Maybe he's waiting for the Democrat dust to settle, maybe he's choosing his battles.  But it seems like he could be more vocal (forceful?) about some things.  For example, when the media tried to equate John Hagee with Jeremiah Wright.  It was obvioius that McCain didn't spend every Sunday morning sitting in Hagee's church service.  I didn't hear McCain take a firm stand and say that.  One of the flaws of GWB was that he didn't communicate well and people were allowed to make things stick that should have been stopped the moment they were started.

I believe all facts should

I believe all facts should be fair game for both sides.  I wwant to know about my canditate warts and all and I want the other one to be exposed also.  Exposure to the light is great medicine for the masses.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

Let me put it this way: I

Let me put it this way: I hope Novak is right.

I certainly hope that McCain doesn't run such a "respectful" campaign that he refuses to criticize Obama at all.

McCain has absolutely

McCain has absolutely nothing to gain by trying to gain favor with the media or conform to the media's strict set of rules on how Obama should be treated/coddled. They're going to turn against McCain sooner rather than later, guaranteed (aside from CNN and MS-NBC, which already have).

And we all now know that Obama and company are going to bitch and do the faux-outrage thing no matter what McCain says. We're seeing it already with the "appeasement" and "how dare you talk about my wife" stuff. And if you need any evidence as to how low the bar has been set on what's considered "despicable" and "outrageous", just look at how Bill Clinton - Liberal Icon of all people - was thrown under the bus as a "racist" - without hesitation - by the Obama camp and cohorts in the media back in Iowa when he did nothing more than refer to Obama as a "kid" and his voting record a "fairy tale".

Obama is going to play the "swiftboat / old GOP dirty politics / race-baiting" record all the way to November.

He'll cave

McCain will cave in to his buddies in the media and they and their buddies on the left will hand him his backside in the election.

Sorry, but the back of the baseball cards do not lie. A 220 hitter is a 220 hitter. Except, of course in the case of Hussein Obama where a 150 hitter is being made into a Babe Ruth by his media that he OWNS.

Yes I said Hussein. Anybody got a problem with that?

The baseball analogy doesn't fit.

  • LYDSEXICS UNTIE!

McCain should hit Obama hard.

McCain has a right and a responsibility to hit Obama hard on the issues. Obama's lack of qualifications to be the president need to be exposed before the election, not after. I doubt that McCain will cave in to the media. The media is woefully unqualified to formulate the political debate.

Oil Free Market

Checking the polar bear population last night I found an increase of about 2/3 from the 1960's to present. Obviously the animal was not placed on an endangered list in light of it's continued growth rate. Maybe this is a back door step to close further drilling attempts in ANWR?

I had thought----

I had thought----that this false story had been put to bed. The original "heart rending" photo of a polar bear so far from land and adrift on a small berg has been proven to have been taken in July when the ice is always like that. Additionally the refutation cited that polar bears can swin 60 miles.

I also read, quite some time back, an article by a scientist whose job is to monitor these populations and he cited that there indeed, had been some minor reduction in polar bear numbers in one area, that had been more than offset by significant growths in population in other areas.

I know a lot of people will not agree me with me on the next, but:

This "feel good" BS is p---ing me off. F---ing idiots who take some great warm feeling by "doing something for Mother Earth." The first thing they need to do is remove head from rectum, open various news sites on internet (they will never get the truth in newsprint, on any issue), seek the truth, evaluate the source of the data and the reputation of the people who report it.

I liken this, and this is where most of you will part ways with me, with the all powerful, but totally incorrect national sweep on second-hand smoke. I DO NOT SMOKE. I HATE SMOKE AND SMOKING. But not as much as stupidity. 99% (my guess) of media sources never published the World Health Organization studies that showed litle difference in a smoking or non-smoking environment in the health effects of second-hand smoking.

I AM NOT DEFENDING SMOKING--- I AM CONDEMNING MOB THINKING AND FEEL GOOD B*** S***!!!

Please do not hang on the issue of smoking, get on board with how mob rule, feel good BS and the media controls everyone. So now the f***ing pollyannas of the world are out to save something that does not need saving. (Again.)

I say that ANWR should be an abbreviation for ANYWHERE and America should drill anywhere it pleases within its own boundaries to resolve our problems

And polar bear protectors can KMA! Because its all BS.

Sorry for the diatribe. I get so tired of running in the same rut again and again. Just like the pro-amnesty people, always coming back with f***ing lies to prove their point and waiting until we are asleep to slip their traitorous, treacherous intents into any bill they can to win for the special interest groups.

McCain needs our help

I don't see McCain doing anything to hurt Obama's feelings in the near future. As always, our DC politicians will continue being wimps while talk radio and grassroots education carry the conservative banner for them.

The only way to turn things around is for us to rally behind our common goals and start our own Reagan revolution.

Candance

I decided last night that I could no longer plan on holding my nose and voting for McCain. This whole thing with the farm bill and the dragging the oil exes before Congress has done me in. So if my vote causes Obama to win so be it. I am going to vote for Dr. Chuck Baldwin if he can get on the ballot in NC.

Dem lawmaker blames Americans for Mexican violence

From Cybercast News Service -

Democrats Unaware of US Warning About Border Violence
By Penny Starr
CNSNews.com Senior Staff Writer
May 22, 2008

(CNSNews.com) - Three Democratic lawmakers who spoke Wednesday about alleged anti-immigrant coverage by conservative media outlets were not aware of a recent State Department travel alert warning Americans about military-like "combat" along the southern U.S. border in Mexico, where Americans are being kidnapped and murdered.

"The situation in northern Mexico remains very fluid; the location and timing of future armed engagements there cannot be predicted," said the State Department alert. "Armed robberies and carjackings, apparently unconnected to the narcotics-related violence, have increased in Tijuana and Ciudad Juarez. Dozens of U.S. citizens were kidnapped and/or murdered in Tijuana in 2007."

When asked about the alert after the briefing, Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) told Cybercast News Service: "I haven't heard about the report specifically, but certainly one of the reasons we are looking at the Merida Initiative is to work with Mexico to have them meet their challenges of the drug traffickers and the violence that takes place along our border. It's in our common interest and obviously this is a challenge of security." (The U.S. Merida Initiative provides equipment and training to help Mexican law enforcement confront criminal activity that spills over into the United States.)

The State Department's alert was posted in April and dated as current as of May 21.

Reps. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) and Hilda Solis (D-Calif.) both spoke to Cybercast News Service after the briefing and said they had no knowledge of the travel alert but were aware of the volatility along the U.S. southern border.

"I've read different reports of the violence in Mexico, and I am a strong advocate for cracking down on the violence, and I'm very concerned about the murder of women," Solis said. "But I'm more concerned about people having their civil rights violated here."

"I haven't seen the travel alert, but I'm going to take a look at it," Gutierrez said. "But does it surprise me? It doesn't surprise me."

Gutierrez blamed drug use in the United States for some of the violence.

"We are the consumers," he said. "We are the cause."

Speakers at the briefing said that CNN and Fox News Channel should be held accountable for television personalities who have "played major roles in creating this anti-immigrant hysteria," specifically Lou Dobbs and Glenn Beck on CNN and Bill O'Reilly on Fox.

I think this ruling today was premature, but now that it's happened I can guarantee it's not the end.

I'm convinced from all I have read and listened to that young minor girls were being sexually used and sexually abused by the men in this clan. When it comes to protecting children I will do anything. That includes temporarily ignoring the constitution, and or breaking the law! I'm just that way when it comes to kids.

"Abstain from McCain"

Ct, I understand and respect your feelings.

But remember, Janet Reno lied her ass off about what was happening to those children at Waco. She played on people's fears about protecting children from things that, as it later came to light, were not even happening, and used this as an excuse to send in the FBI. Many innocent people died as a result.

Have we gotten to the point where some government employee has to only make vague references to alleged molestation and then hundreds of families lives are completely torn assunder?

Unlike Nazis and communists, I believe children belong to their parents, not to the government.

If government is going to take people's children from them, they ought to at least have to prove their allegations in a court of law prior to taking them.

This important step was passed over by over-zealous government bureaucrats, and IMHO was done intentionally.

I further believe this action was fueled by anti-Christian bigotry, making it more egregious still.

If this heinous government act had continued unimpeded, would anyone's children be safe?

We are being smothered by government in this country. - Neal Boortz

 RD... This is nowhere

 RD...

This is nowhere near the same thing as what happened in Waco. But I do understand your not trusting the FBI after what Reno pulled. I honestly believe this case is different.

One area where I do agree with you is the anti-Christian bigotry. For me, I don't care what religion they are, or even if they claim to be a religion. My concern is for the children, nothing more, nothing less. And I have to admit you are correct about the "over-zealous government bureaucrats, and IMHO was done intentionally" . My hope is that they were over-zealous because they wanted to protect the children ASAP, and for no other reason.

The government agencies involved had 2 things to base their claims on. The infamous phone call, and statements from female ex-members of the clan. The phone call was lame, but with the statements to back it up with I probably would have done the same.

My only interest in an issue like this is the children. If we don't protect our children we are worthless as human beings.

RD, the governmnet had the

RD, the governmnet had the authority to pull these children from the cult because they were abusing them.  The DNA tests are still underway and the unrefuted evidence is there are 13 and 14 year old girls who are pregnant without the benefit of marriage.  We in Texas normally call that RAPE, in fact there are laws against it, the very laws used to pull the children.  There is no constitutional crisis as the Constitution of the USA has no statements against what the authorities did.  In fact it says all laws not stipulated in the Constitution is relegated to the states.

At least 31 of the 53 girls that are 14 to 17 years old have been found to be pregnant or to have given birth, including one who had her baby last Tuesday.

IMO this is no different than if a father was abusing his own children and they must be taken from the home.

BTW I find your comment about bankrupting teh Texas treasury very offensive.

At least 31 of the 53 girls that are 14 to 17 years old have been
found to be pregnant or to have given birth, including one who had her

Well, if we start arresting parents of every 14-17 yo girl in this country who happens to be pregnant, our courts would soon grind to a halt.

That leaves 22 families that had their children confiscated by the government for no reason whatsoever.

If I were a parent of one of those 22 children, I would be lining up a busload of attorneys.

BTW I find your comment about bankrupting teh Texas treasury very offensive.

I am truly sorry you find my assertion here offensive, but, as I see it, if the Texas state government gets away with this gross infringement on the Constitutional rights of the citizens of Texas unscathed, and is not held to account for its actions, then no one's children are safe.

Perhaps the good people of Texas will choose better at their next voting opportunity.

I'm sorry, but my interpretaion of the Constitution is rather strict. As far as government goes, everyone is presumed innocent until proven otherwise.

As it currently stands, no parent involved in this case has been convicted of anything in a court of law.

Nor has anyone else.
