May 17, 2008 - 12:58 ET by Del DolemonteThe Celtics set up some sort of lottery system to sell the tickets for Game 7, and not everyone got wind of it, apparently-I heard an interview with a guy who showed up at the Garden this morning at 5 AM, and was not able to get a ticket-even though people who showed up hours later got them with no problem.
All Bush's fault, no doubt.

May 17, 2008 - 14:03 ET by Noel SheppardB,
When I saw that yesterday, I meant to put it in here but forgot.
Thanks for reminding me. BTW: It's just Henin, for she divorced her husband some time ago. :-) ns

Must be fun to be 25, and RETIRING.

May 17, 2008 - 14:09 ET by Noel SheppardB,
I was thinking the same thing. ;-)
Odd announcement really. Who retires at 25? Crazy. Yet, it must mean that tennis, maybe because of her overbearing Dad, was always a drudgery, and she never enjoyed it.
Too bad, for women's tennis was far better with her. ns

May 17, 2008 - 16:25 ET by balboaTennis has to be a grind, with the travel all over the world, trying to fight off challengers 10 years younger. I'm sure her dad had something to do with her saying, "You know what? I'm done. I've done everything I wanted to."
Henin retires
May 17, 2008 - 22:00 ET by UnsaneWell, that just makes it a bit easier for my favorite tennis player to win some more tournaments.
For me, it's all about Шарапова. :-)

May 17, 2008 - 16:23 ET by balboaShe's the #1 woman. Federer is undisputed best tennis player in the world, regardless of gender, and may be the best ever.
McEnroe
May 17, 2008 - 21:56 ET by easygoerI agree Bal. He may be the best ever. In my view only John McEnroe can compare. He was an absolutete artist at the net, better at volleying than Federer. Roger is a more disciplined person and a better athlete than John. I love how both of them play the game. Serve and volley beats these boring heavy hitting baseliners. Edberg was another guy whose style of play I admired.

May 17, 2008 - 21:58 ET by balboaNo one volleyed better than McEnroe, and I loved his style of play, but I think he's further down the list of greats than right behind Federer. Sampras, for one, Rod Laver, Ivan Lendl.
Becker
May 17, 2008 - 22:12 ET byBecker or Borg anyone?

botg...tennis greats
May 17, 2008 - 22:44 ET by JerI should have placed Borg in a tie with McEnroe at #4 on my list and inserted Agassi at #5--terrible oversights on my part.
In my opinion, Becker would be grouped with the likes of Connors, Lendl, Edberg, Rosewall, Kramer, Pancho Gonzalez, etc. (maybe Courier and Vilas)
I'm not considering the Tilden era. Nadal: insufficient resume`.

May 17, 2008 - 23:14 ET by JerI have him #3 on my all-time list. You disagree?
Jer
Becker, Borg, absolutely.
May 17, 2008 - 22:52 ET by balboaBecker, Borg, absolutely. Connors, Agassi also.
The thing I hated about McEnroe when he was at the height of his abilities was that he was an absolute prick on the court. Couldn't stand it.
bal...McEnroe on and off court
May 17, 2008 - 23:21 ET by Jerprick on the court...couldn't stand it.
Me either. But as a TV tennis commentator, he is best... ever. Funny, affable, self-deprecating, respectful--all the things he wasn't on court.

May 18, 2008 - 02:13 ET by Jerharry...I took a about a 120 mph overhead right where no guy would want to get hit and was laid out on the court for about ten minutes...if that makes you feel any better. :>)

serve and volley
May 17, 2008 - 22:13 ET by easygoerI agree it's hard to forget Sampras or Laver. Lendl was the kind of player I hated to watch. McEnroe's still my favorite player. I'm probably biased since I grew up on LI about ten miles from McEnroe's home in Douglaston, Queens and I'm about the same age as him. He's also turned into a good tennis TV commentator

May 17, 2008 - 21:12 ET by easygoerImpressive win again for Big Brown. He'll be at least 1-5 again in the Belmont. Problem is I believe he will be denied the Triple Crown by Japanese invader Casino Drive. Check out how he split horses at the top of the lane in the Peter Pan. http://www.youtube.c...

May 17, 2008 - 23:17 ET by Noel SheppardMy first and only bigtime horse race was the 1978 Belmont Stakes with Affirmed beating Alydar. I was living on Long Island back then, and a good friend of mine was a jockey wannabee.
We got there very early, drank a disgusting amount, and I witnessed -- half in the bag, mind you! -- a Triple Crown winner in one of the greatest races of all time.
I think Affirmed went off 1-2 that day.
30 years ago. Tough to believe. ns
