Okay, who are you and what have you done with the Sarc we know and love?

May 6, 2008 - 09:45 ET by JasonCI liked the Pink Floyd one, but it was pretty apolitical. Maybe that's Newsbusted's problem. I mean, you can get away with trenchant political commentary that's not all that funny, or pithy political commentary that's hilarious, but pithy and unfunny (delivered in a stilted monotone to boot) just sucks.

May 6, 2008 - 10:39 ET by Dee Bunkonly self appreciating liberals who don't understand conservatives at all and think that anyone who doesn't agree with them must be an uneducated redneck hick would find it funny. You've tried to pass that crap off here before and no one found it funny.
Total nonsense, Dee, if
May 6, 2008 - 11:21 ET by JasonCTotal nonsense, Dee, if anything it is parodying and mocking the kind of effete liberal that "[doesn't] understand conservatives at all and think that anyone who doesn't agree with them must be an uneducated redneck hick." I submit that it parodies liberal sensiblities as much as conservativ/Middle American ones. If you really think that this show is suggesting that conservatives really are like these guys, I think you've totally missed the point.
Most importantly, it does not take itself too seriously or churn out one-liners like a factory machine; which is without a doubt Newsbusted's major problem.

Oh please Jason
May 6, 2008 - 11:34 ET by Dee Bunkexplain how this episode parodied liberal sensibilities. I don't watch this so I can't say they have never done it but this episode was a piece of moronic trash that only poked fun at conservatives with bad caricatures of what they believe them to be. There was no making fun of liberals.
OK, if you believe that
May 6, 2008 - 12:03 ET by JasonCOK, if you believe that this show really is "moronic trash that only poked fun at conservatives with bad caricatures of what they believe them to be", then I guess there's no way to regard it as anything other than purely anti-conservative. But don't you think there's something a little tongue-in-cheek about these caricatures? That they're so over the top, that it's making fun of the type of liberal that actually believes this is the typical conservative. Besides which, behind the deep south dialects, much of what they say about liberals is perfectly legitimate criticism and satire.
I'm not saying that it's anti-liberal, necessarily. I don't think it's anti-conservative either. But I do think its approach is more subtle than you give it credit for. I would love to see a similar show with two people who wear Lacoste polo shirts and have Boston accents and think John Kerry is awesome and drink Pinot Grigio while they pretentiously discuss politics.
As far as your being so indignant that I posted a link to it twice in a 3-month period; no one found it funny then, huh? I think you were the only one who responded, so don't act like you speak for all of Newsbusters.

Meh
May 6, 2008 - 13:19 ET by Matthew SheffieldI don't think they're that funny although there are some conservatives who like them, including NB's PJ Gladnick.
They pretty much have the exact same schtick and it gets old. The shows are way too long.
I find that each episode
May 6, 2008 - 13:31 ET by JasonCI find that each episode has at least moment where one of them will say something mindblowingly incisive (whether from a conservative or liberal perspective), and it's all the more surreal because it's couched in this over-the-top white trash presentation.

May 6, 2008 - 17:37 ET by Dee Bunkand between he and I we represent everyone. He represents ALL conservative men and I represent ALL conservative women.
There is nothing subtle about this and of course a show with polo shirts and Pinot Grigio drinking pretentious liberals would be funny because it's based on truth. The rednecks are not. There are probably just as many uneducated redneck liberals as their are conservatives (if not more).
If you had two men in Business suits ala MJ Fox from his Alex days, talking about how stupid liberal ideas are, that would be a fair comparison to your pretentious liberals.
If one of the rednecks were a liberal and one a conservative, then it would be funny - the way it is now it's just stupid and mean and not representative of anything close to reality.

Not really, Dee. But I would find it funny because it fits right in with what some people in middle America thinks the urban coasts are like.
The rednecks are not [based].
No s**t, that's been my point all along, that it's an absurd caricature based on what some liberals might believe to be accurate.

May 6, 2008 - 11:54 ET by JasonCYou mean the A-word? Sorry, I didn't think that would really offend anyone. Actually the funny thing about this show is that, usually, whenever the younger guy swears, the older one tells him to watch his mouth (not this time, for some reason). Anyway, sorry 'bout that.
