Sorry to disagree, bt...I think Republicans should be afraid of Obama. He will be impossible to disagree with..not Teflon, but Kevlar.
Look at how, already, the MSM is saying that the Wright thing is hurting him because of racism...white people were looking for an excuse not to vote for him...etc. If anyone criticizes his wife, it will be because they can't stand a strong black woman (not the fact that she's a bitter shrew!) And McCain certainly will treat him with kid gloves...Heck, he'll probably balace every criticism with a compliment!
Going OT a little, but Ankle-Biting Pundits has a good news/bad news story on McCain today...the good news is his eloquent stand on judges; enjoy it, but get the duct tape ready for the bad news....
I will get to your post link later....I have posted three of four links on the subject of McCain on OT in response to RD and I heard his speech today too also...no duct tape for me, I have been PO since he did his Town Hall meeting in Denver, and he hasn't stopped.
As far as fearing Obama...not me, I understand where you are coming from, but I really do not fear this guy like I did at the beginning of his tent revival meetings...whatever happens with all three candidates, the elections in '10 and '12 should be a conservative sweep...a real conservative sweep.

Abso-freaking-lutely, BT. I am not scared of the BHO, because the Dems in Congress from marginal districts will not support his agenda if he is elected, and we will bottom out with the swing to the left that BHO will provide.
What did scare me were the morons chanting "Yes we can, yes we can." They are believers, and I was waiting for them to switch to "Sieg Heil, Sieg Heil". We are surrounded by a bunch of ignorant folks who believe that is the 'Gov from whom all belssings flow'.
For the first time in my life, I'm glad to be old.
It's a shame they can't both lose, but since only one of them can I hope Hillary does. It's not just that I think she would have a better chance in the general, I personally dislike Hillary Clinton and would be happy to see her and her husband go away. Far, far away.
LOL, and you can be sure the libs will be careful not to use that phrase, since they need to keep it reserved for conversations around the 2000 Presidential election.
I was watching news this morning and Hillary Clinton at a campaign stop said...and I quote...
"You need a president that's going to provide solutions. A president that's going to take care of you and your family"
Provide? Take care? What is America, Kindercare? How about a president that will do things that will get government out of the way so Americans can do great things?
These people don't get it. Countries have been established for many hundreds, and thousands of years, all of them older than the 232 yr old USA. And of course the USA was many many years younger than that when it began to steam past all of them, come to their aid, etc etc. Why is that? Why did it take America such a short time to surpass nations that have had eons to do it? Hmmm, something must right about America. When will politicians look at things in that light, and step back and ponder that for a moment? That's the politician that gets my vote, whenever that one shows up. I'm not holding my breath.
I'm curious in a polite way, because I've discussed this same question with friends. Is there a political entity older than the USA? I know that various cultures existed prior to our constitution, but France, for example, is a younger country than the USA. We fought against a king for independence, so in a sense, we pre-date modern England. Other countries may have older buildings and roads, but I think our political entity is older than almost all. Comments?
This map shows the details of Obama's victory in NC. He won every major city there, from Charlotte to Durham to Fayetteville to Greensboro. Clinton is winning in the western, more rural counties.
92% of black people went unwaveringly for Obama (but that doesn't mean it's racially motivated, mind you!). I guess Reverend Wright really does represent black America.
It's ridiculous that you can simply count the number of black people in a state and predict how many votes Obama will get. Am I the only one who finds that unsettling?
See, it's perfectly natural for blacks to vote for "one of their own," to want to see a black man finally be president. Platform or qualifications don't matter. It's just their "turn."
And "enlightened" white people are glad to help one of their down-trodden black brothers finally claim the highest office in the land. That's just normal "brotherly love."
The only people who are racists are those who don't vote for Obama. That's the only reason anyone could not love him; they (and only they) must be racists.
Of all the things that concern me, the number of black people voting for Senator Obama is the least of them. Why wouldn't they vote for him? How many Irish people voted for John F. Kennedy? Hell, if you were Irish and didn't vote for him, you better stay away from the St. Patrick's Day Parade.
So according to the MSM Barack Obama is the black candidate for black Americans and the liberal effete elite. Therefore Hillary is the white candidate for the white working class Americans. Who are the racists here?
Now that Hill is out of the picture it's going to be nothing but favorable distorted coverage of him here on out.
McCain doesn't stand a chance. Not that he did against Hillary either but I would have much rather had Hillary than Obama.
I'm still voting for McCain but I don't think he stands a chance.
I totally disagree. McCain will be the next president and I know the main reason why. Dems are some of the most racist people I have ever come across, so those Dems in the South and the Dems that live outside of Metro areas will not vote for the black guy. They will overwhelmingly vote for the old white guy.
Also keep in mind that Dems like McCain because he's so close to them.
I have already taken that into account. He has made it clear that he does NOT want to win because of the conservative vote. He will now bow down at the Democrat alter looking for his votes. The amount of votes he will pick up by going after Dem and Indy votes will outweigh anything we can put together.
I'm even willing to bet you $1.00 US Dollar that I'm right.
I hope you are right. The thing that bugs me the most though is I kind of think Hillary might have been the lesser of three evils. I hadn't decided. I definitely don't like McCain but I'll be voting for him for sure against Obama.
I can't stand McCain and I will not be voting for him. I'm still going to write-in my candidate. After the general is over I will most likely quit the GOP.
I have been a Republican for over 30 years, believe me when I say that this decision is not an easy one. The GOP needs to get some guts and stick to conservative principles or I am leaving.
I really hate politics. There are no easy answers with any of it. I can't blame you for not wanting to be involved because you've been at it a lot longer than me.
I'm going to be active in the nominating process next time. It's hard living in IL with the worst Republican party out there, but I'm going to have to try and do something or I'll go crazy.
I worked (for the first time) in the 2004 Presidential election and even though I knew we couldn't take IL, I felt better. I also went to neighboring states (WI and IA) and made phone calls to other states. I thought it was helpless then but it made me feel a lot better than doing nothing and luckily things turned out okay. I could never work for McCain like that, but in 2012 I'm getting involved (assuming he's not the incumbent.
But I see this as horrible. I knew it was the most likely scenario, but I feel the dem is going to win and Obama is by far the worst choice we could have. I'd rather have Hillary, Kerry, even Edwards as President. Obama will be as far left as they get and he'll have a dem congress to work with.
Hill may want this to go to the convention, but I think enough pressure will be put on her that she will back down. The only reason why I don't feel 100% correct with the above prediction is how happy she has been lately. I have this nagging feeling that she and Bill have something cooking.
of his age and lack of charisma. In the end the public votes on youthful charm and nothing else. That's why Clinton won the last two and Reagan two before him and Bush two after him. Bush between Reagan and Clinton was kind of an anomoly, but Dukakis didn't have much charm either.
As a 27 year old middle classer, I'd like to thank all these morons who want more taxes and a weaker military. All my money will end up going to these people.
I can't really put my finger on it just now, aside from McCain's kissing up to La Raza at the moment, but I have a sick feeling that the GOP is in really serious trouble come November.
Call it a gut feeling or whatever, but I really don't think the party leadership gets it. Not even close.
Hastert's seat went to a democrat. Many of the dems who crossed over in the primaries and voted for McCain will be back voting for the dems in the election. What is worse, I am beginning to think McCain doesn't have the stomach for what will be required for him to win, be it against Barry-O, Broom Hilda, or even Al Gore.
I hope I am mis-reading all this, but I am having serious difficulty being optimistic here.
What the American people are looking for is somebody who can solve their problems. - Barack Obama, April 27, 2008
I do agree with you to a point. The GOP is gonna get clobbered in house and senate seats, but I'm convinced it will still be McCain. And this of course leads us to another problem. Will a house and senate totally controlled by Dems care one whit about anything McCain says?
Ya know guys, I almost hope the dem nominee gets the WH. The farther left the better. I'm afraid that things must get much worse before they get better. Since '94, conservatives have had chance after chance, and they have blown it time and time again. Ever since Newt called it quits, we have been in a downward spiral, and it starts at the top in the RNC. I'm not even sure of Newt's motives anymore. The whole thing is disconcerting. I'm about ready to throw my hands up and say "to hell with it".
Or we can watch the faces of the far left when they realize that neither obama nor hillary will pull them out. Either way, you will see a lot of hatred.
I'm heading to bed. Can you all come up with some solutions to this horrible situation we are in so I can have something to look forward to in the morning? I'm really depressed about this whole stupid situation. I'm actually wishing that Kerry would have won in 2004 now.
"Limbaugh says they're jealous that "I out-organized them"
Phil Hendrie was much better on radio than Limbaugh. I also like Art Bell's Coast to Coast, which was like "Weekly World News" on the radio, much better than Limbaugh. Limbaugh has too big of an ego in my opinion.
I honestly do not think McCain can win now, even if he were to suddenly grow a spine. At this point, that possibility seems very unlikely.
The GOP is seriously broken. What is even more disconcerting is that the vapid party leadership appears to not recognize this sad fact. They have sqaundered just about every opportunity the dems have presented to them, and there have been so many.
Perhaps they will get it when their heads are handed to them come November, and I am sure they will be. Whether they can get their act together in four years remains to be seen.
I am thinking it will be twelve.
What the American people are looking for is somebody who can solve their problems. - Barack Obama, April 27, 2008
I still wonder how McCain got the nomination. Actually, I'm quite convinced that dems got it for him. I think they sensed some apathy on the part of repubs and cross voted for him. I think Fred got in too late to stem the tide and energize conservatives. Then, when he finally entered, he didn't seem too interested.
I still regret George Allen not running. The macaca thing was totally blown up by the msm, but when you think about it now, how is it any worse than obama-wright, or hillary's comments about Jews? Hell, it was nowhere near as bad as those. I didn't know that the word little Spanish kids use for poop was such a big deal.
McCain already has the nomination sealed. Why would a Republican go out and vote? I know I probably wouldn't, even though I'll definitely be voting GOP in November.
I'm guessing that you are referring to the total number of votes. I wouldn't put too much stock in those figures. I think most repubs. are either going the "Operation Chaos" route, or are staying home as the McCain has the nomination wrapped up. Besides, it's hard to get too excited about McCain anyway, but the rest on the ballot have dropped out already, so no reason to vote in the repub primary.
Imagine looking at her for the next 4-8 yrs. It is not a good thing to criticize a persons appearance, but in this case you are right. She is not a very attractive person inside and out.
It's not mere physical appearance. This is a liar, pure and simple. She doesn't believe anything she says.
This is a fabrication, an illusion. There's nothing real about this "thing," and I can't imagine how anyone believes a word that comes out of her mouth. ns
If I ignore what they say and look at how they vote - Hillary comes out better. She's more knowledgeable, more centrist and smarter than Obama. He's got her on looks and personality, but that is it. He's not honest about his positions or about bringing people together.
I find it hilarious that most people have no idea what Obama's positions are. All we really know for sure is... he's for change and hope, or hope to change, or hoping to change change, or....
It's as hilarious as a lockstep demographic who give it the ol' okey-doke and vote for a candidate based on the color of his skin rather than the content of his character.
I agree with you that a Democrat will win the Presidency. Lots of people on this site say Liberals are stupid, but i do not believe they will stay home on election day because their candidate is not the nominee.
They know the stakes, Keeping Roe v Wade in play, affirmative action, Supreme court appointments.
However judging from lots of conservatives on this site, their truly is enough disdain from enough GOPers, that I truly believe many will not vote for McCain and some will even vote for the Dem nominee in protest.
Roe V Wade being a red herring that liberals throw out to scare moderates even though they know it's highly unlikely that it would ever be overturned. What they really want is no limits what so ever on abortion.
So anyway - I agree with you that they will come out and Republicans won't and the Dem nominee will most likely be the President. I also agree that the stakes are high but Roe V Wade is not and has not been in play for a long time. It's only about limits like partial birth, parental notification and ultrasounds. The far left want no limits at all and the moderates have been sucked into going along with it without really realizing it.
2 more conservative judges and they can do pretty much whatever they want, and most of the judges that will be leaving the bench because of age is liberal judges. Roberts and Alito will be there for a few more decades.
so you can't count on their votes to overturn it. They will allow limits that states make like partial birth etc... but they won't overturn. The only two who might possibly (but I don't think even they would) would be Thomas and Scalia. So you would need three more just like them and it still would be unlikely.
Limits are likely with a conservative court but an all out ban on abortion will never happen.
They only said those things, because they needed to get appointed to the bench. Look at the last battles regarding affirmative action and partial birth abortion. I think it is very clear where the stand.
limits. It's not going to happen and even if it did, states could still allow it and most would. It's not some big threatening danger that anyone should be worried about. It's a red herring plain and simple.
I'm sorry but I don't think most SC judges lie. Even Ruth Bater Ginsberg. She may have hidden her views on things but if she said something was settled law I wouldn't think she would go back. I'm surprised you have such a distaste for conservatives that you think people like John Roberts and Sam Alito who have had exemplary careers and shown nothing but good character would do that. It's really sad how easily the media turn people against good upstanding Republicans.
What affirmative action ruling are you referring to and what does that have to do with this issue?
You are jumping to conclusions. This has nothing to do with my distaste for conservatives. I am saying they are obviously more convertive than liberal. Definitely more tha Sandra Day O' Connor
We are talking about Roe V Wade and whether they would overturn it. Both said they think it was incorrectly decided but that it was the law of the land and wouldn't be overturned. You say you don't believe them and that they would overturn it.
I don't see any of the SCOTUS judges as liars, even the most liberal ones whose decisions I think are horribly wrong. Again it's a media induced thing where you distrust all conservatives. They want you to believe it's in danger and what they do works.
I distrust all politicians, but SCOTUS judges are different. I don't think any of them are dishonest.
Overturning Roe V. Wade would not ban abortion. It would allow states to determine if it would be legal, state by state. Some might ban it, some might not, but the limits you posted of would be much easier to get. Now, anything that limits abortion by even the tiniest amount goes through the whole system, and takes forever to see a decision. That's why I don't understand the reluctance to overturn Roe V. Wade on the part of conservative judges.
and that is how it should have been. I also agree that it's a waste for everything to have to go through to the SCOTUS because of it. I think that it's just been standing law for too long to change it now. If they start allowing limits then more and more lower courts will not strike them down and eventually the SCOTUS will stop hearing cases about limits.
But with liberal judges like the type Obama would appoint, there will be no rules, no standards, nothing. They will rule on what they personally think is morally right and nothing else. No limits on abortion, lots of limits on guns, government Health care will be declared a constitutional right, foreign courts will be used for precedent and all kinds of goofy stuff.
One very huge mistake you made Shawn in your analysis.... Not all Dems are liberals. I am very careful to use the word Dem when I'm using my McCain will win scenario.
Dems will put McCain into the WH, and I am willing to bet you $1.00 US Dollar that I'm right.
But I think the media will have painted McCain as an extreme right winger by the time November rolls around. If they could paint GWB as extreme right then they can certainly do it to McCain. GWB is a pretty liberal Republican. War stance and appointing Judges who interpret the constitution make someone extreme right in their eyes.
Not to worry, Dee. I see no way the media could paint McCain as extreme right wing. He thwarts them at every turn by pandering left. That McCain is a rascally one.

funny that you said that Shawn because I was just posting about
May 6, 2008 - 23:38 ET by Dee BunkRoe V Wade being a red herring that liberals throw out to scare moderates even though they know it's highly unlikely that it would ever be overturned.
I disagree Dee
May 6, 2008 - 23:44 ET by shawn2282 more conservative judges and they can do pretty much whatever they want, and most of the judges that will be leaving the bench because of age is liberal judges. Roberts and Alito will be there for a few more decades.
Shawn - Alito and Roberts both said it was settled law
May 6, 2008 - 23:49 ET by Dee Bunkso you can't count on their votes to overturn it.
Again Dee, I disagree
May 6, 2008 - 23:53 ET by shawn228They only said those things, because they needed to get appointed to the bench. Look at the last battles regarding affirmative action and partial birth abortion. I think it is very clear where the stand.
Yes it is clear shawn - that's why I said they would allow
May 7, 2008 - 00:04 ET by Dee Bunklimits.
What affirmative action ruling are you referring to and what does that have to do with this issue?
dee
May 7, 2008 - 00:11 ET by shawn228You are jumping to conclusions. This has nothing to do with my distaste for conservatives. I am saying they are obviously more convertive than liberal. Definitely more tha Sandra Day O' Connor
Shawn we are not talking about how conservative they are
May 7, 2008 - 00:31 ET by Dee BunkWe are talking about Roe V Wade and whether they would overturn it.
Dee
May 6, 2008 - 23:55 ET by RESTLESS 1Overturning Roe V.
I agree about the state by state thing restless
May 7, 2008 - 00:15 ET by Dee Bunkand that is how it should have been.
→ State by State
May 7, 2008 - 00:36 ET by Cool ArrowI'd be happy to see abortion decided on that basis. I'm pretty sure Texas would severely restrict infanticide.
