For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Carter and Gore to support Obama and get Hillary out of the race?
DEMOCRAT grandees Jimmy Carter and Al Gore are being lined-up to deliver the coup de grâce to Hillary Clinton and end her campaign to become president. Falling poll numbers and a string of high-profile blunders have convinced party elders that she must now bow out of the primary race.
Former president Carter and former vice-president Gore have already held high-level discussions about delivering the message that she must stand down for the good of the Democrats.
What are the chances of this happening? Will it matter? Will Bill and Hill actually care what Carter and Gore say? Wouldn't this be the ultimate humiliation for those who would be king and queen? On the other hand, wouldn't it be an exquisitely delicious end to their disgraceful political careers? Finally, if this happens, will Hillary supporters be so angered that they'll either vote for McCain or sit this election out thereby almost assuring his victory while improving GOP chances of great gains at the Congressional level?

If those folks who
April 13, 2008 - 06:25 ET by Gary P JacksonIf those folks who commented on the story linked above are representative of what's going on, in the democrat(ic) party, if I was Obama, I'd be worried! It's clear that the readers don't much care for Obama, and have Algore and Carter's number too!
I'm sure within' the party elite, Algore and Carter are these mythical figures. But I have a feeling if they try and throw the girl out for the black guy, the "you know what" will hit the fan!
The democrat(ics) have played gender and race politics for decades, and now the cows have come home to roost. These people are so worked up over their candidate's sex and race that no matter who ends up as the democrat(ic) candidate, a large portion of the dem voters will stay home, or vote for McCain.
The democrat(ics) have a serious mess on their hands, and if they stop the process, before every state has voted, it won't be pretty. And I have a felling they will have to literally have to drag Clinton out of the race, to get her to give up the fight. I would be very surprised if she threw in the towel on her own.
This is very entertaining though. By all rights, the democrat(ics) should win this in a walk over. Not because of anything really bad, but because of the perception a lot of folks have because of our media. And yet, McCain is gonna win this thing, and depending on who he picks for his running mate (Mitt Romney) he's gonna win big!
Wackiest thing I've ever seen!

April 13, 2008 - 22:44 ET by Noel SheppardGary,
If the ultra-leftwing of the Democrat Party -- Carter and Gore -- force Hillary out while there's still a chance she can win, this Party will be in a lot of trouble.
Let's understand that even though Hillary is almost as liberal as Obama, the more fiscally moderate DLC Democrats see her as being a replica of Bill. As such, if the ultra-left steals this election from the moderate DLCers, the latter -- much like Zell Miller and Joe Lieberman -- will no longer feel welcomed. Maybe more important, they'll feel betrayed.
Either way, the Democrats are now in a lose-lose position; isn't it marvelous? ns

Carter & Obama -- two look-alike ostraches
April 13, 2008 - 10:00 ET by ThisnThatAsked whether it was right to meet a group that has not renounced violence or recognized Israel, Carter said, "Well, you can't always get prerequisites adopted by other people before you even talk to them." Lest anyone forget, when President, Carter supported the terrorist Ayatollah Khomeini —calling him a “peaceful and holy man”.
Here is what Obama said on : "It's time to turn the page on Washington's conventional wisdom that agreement must be reached before you meet, that talking to other countries is some kind of reward, and that Presidents can only meet with people who will tell them what they want to hear".
We have a failed ex-President who has never learned from his mistakes. And we have a stupid presidential candidate who doesn't have enought experience to prevent mistakes. In both cases, we have two people whose sole purpose is to legitimize terrorists and weaken our country.

Why does he want to let Hamas off the hook -- "go ahead, no reason at all why you (Hamas) should think Israel should exist. In fact, that will be our starting point -- Israel shouldn't exist, so where do we go from here? Let's start talking, and no -- I won't hurt your feelings during the entire discussion, so don't be concerned".
But let President Bush say or do anything, and Carter is all over him. This link (from May, 2007) says it all: "Former President Carter Blasts Bush's Administration as 'Worst in History'".
Carter hates the United States, pure and simple. He is a typical left-wing radical, and Obama is his protoge. I can't tell you how much I detest them both. I don't think Obama can count on my vote this fall.

April 13, 2008 - 07:55 ET by ricklailBill Clinton was in New Bern yesterday. I am glad that I was at my folks 300 miles away. But according to today's Sun Journal he told another whopper. He said that Hillary is the most qualified to be commander in chief. That is a hump back lie. She hates the uniformed services. When is he going to stop lying? That stuff does not go over very good in this area. This area is very military friendly with Camp Lejeune, Cherry Point MCAS, New River Air Station, and Seymour Johnson within than a hour drive.

Strange Choice
April 13, 2008 - 08:57 ET by allanfThat is a strange choice of party "elders". Hillary abhors Gore. Carter is sanctimonious and generally abhorent.
Hillary can count votes as well as anyone. Howard Dean should think twice about sending in these "elders".
Howard Dean...
April 13, 2008 - 12:10 ET by heldmyw...Should think, period.
I agree, though. "Carter/Gore" (aka: the ambiguously limp duo) isn't the powerhouse that Dean thinks it is, if this is truly the plan...
Maybe he should send "The Johns"! Flipper and Silky! Kerry and Edwards!
That's the ticket... who could refuse to listen to their words of wisdom?
I can hear Hillary cackling now.
When are the MSM going to
April 13, 2008 - 09:18 ET by motherbeltWhen are the MSM going to start challenging Barack Obama on his flip-flops and disingenuous statements?
Not only is he now saying he said something different in the "God and guns" controversy, but he has a couple of other discrepancies:
He is apparently beginning the backstroke on his pledge to use public financing. Sen. McCain has already called him out on this.
His ubiquitous PA campaign commercial says he doesn't "take money from oil companies." As FactCheck.org says, that much is true; he doesn't. But that's no virtue; no candidate does, because it's illegal.
However, look at their page and you will see how much he has received from people in the gas and oil industries.
On "60 Minutes" in February, Steve Kroft asked him if he would withdraw troops no matter what and he said:
“No, I always reserve as commander in chief the right to assess the situation."
However, in March, he said to a Caspar Wyoming crowd:
"I will bring this war to an end in 2009, so don't be confused."
Confused? You bet I'm confused! As we should all be.
It would be nice if we had some kind of faint hope that the media will ever question him on these things....
Oh, wait, they did on the "God and guns" thing, but blithely accepted his little "lecture" about "traditions"..apparently accepting his familiarity with the traditions of the "typical white person."
I'm willing to bet at
April 13, 2008 - 09:34 ET by radiofitz34I'm willing to bet at some point soon, Obama will say something so outragious that even the MSM can't defend him...I'm reeeally hoping it happens.
The other possibility is that it will take 10 to 12 of these mid-America Pennsylvania type comments to show the voters what a twisted dimwit Obama really is. And when I say "dimwit", what I mean is...the illusion of giving the appearence of being intellectual.
I believe that just short
April 13, 2008 - 09:57 ET by ConservativeRexI believe that just short of photos of Obama raping a kitten he will always get a free pass from this media. But, I've also come to the conclusion he will lose in the general election. He'll win the demos nomination, but lose in the general. He is too dividing.
For someone who states that he wants to bring the country together,he is tearing it apart more than anyone else is. Even with the clamp down by the media on the ridiculous crap he spouts, it still leaks out. It may be a few days later but it does get out. And it ticks folks off. Real Americans don't want socialism in the end. That's what it will boil down to. I'd tell McCain to capitalize on this, but he won't.
Uh-Bama can play the race card all he wants, but what should be going through his head is 12%. 12% of the population, and not all of that will vote for him. Woman, he'll alienate just enough liberal women to not vote for him, if they vote at all. College kids, they'll not show up in November, they never do, ask John Kerry , Al Gore, et al. Senior citizens, now they DO vote, but they'll not vote for Uh-Bama, too young, not enough experience, hates the military. He'll get a lot of the old union folks and retired teachers and such, the one's who filled the heads of so many kids with commie junk etc. But that's not enough. Then there's the libs that do not like him because of what happened to the Hildabeast, which is estimated at 28% of her base.
So all McCain has to do is hammer him at all of his weakest points, which other than giving mind stunningly boring speeches, is everything else. Uh-bama is a socialist, apparently he doesn't mind that title, but Americans DO, so hammer him on that. It's McCains to lose.
Carter and Gore won't persuade the Clintons
April 13, 2008 - 10:26 ET by nkviking75I don't know that Carter and Gore would have much influence on the Clintons. Seems to me I've heard that Bill Clinton and Carter never really got along. And Bill's colossal ego was undoubtedly bruised when Algore told him to stay in the background in the 2000 campaign.
They'd probably need a lot of Democrat big wigs in one room at once, not unlike an intervention with an alcoholic.
It should be delicious to see what Hillary does after losing. Does she serve out her term quietly and then retire, humiliated? If Obama is elected , does she stay in the Senate to sabotage him? If McCain is elected, does she start gearing up for a run in '12?
When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.

April 13, 2008 - 14:35 ET by Chris NormanI see on the news that Obama is saying he regrets if his remarks offended anyone and that "he could have worded them better". No, Senator Obama, you worded them just fine. We know exactly what you think and were trying to say. No re-wording of them would have made them any less offensive. We're grateful you chose those words because, speaking so plainly, your elitist, condescending, and distasteful attitude towards the white middle class weren't obscured by your "soaring rhetoric". They are out there, plain as day, for everyone to read and hear and understand. They really can't be spun as anything other than what you meant. You think that voting your religious values, belief in the Second Amendment and that illegal immigration is wrong comes from bitterness, ignorance, and irrational emotion. This is entirely understandable. It is a view shared by all liberal leaders and the media, whether spoken plainly (as you did) or hidden by code phrases - such as "a national temper tantrum". Thank you for laying it out so plainly for us.

I just attempted to watch
April 13, 2008 - 20:36 ET by bigtimerI just attempted to watch that Compassion debate or whatever it is on CNN...I could only stomach 18 minutes of it...a political junkie like me couldn't even take it.
Guess they are taking them one hour at a time....boring, and so chalked full of BS right off the start IMHO.
You can be sure they will replay this again and again.
I was wrong earlier when I said I thought McCain should of accepted the offer to be on this...it isn't a debate where they are all on at the same time, it just dribbles and drones on and on.
Btw...Hillary was on first, and the first subject that came up was about Obama and his SF anti- statements...blah blah blah...

"COMPASSION FORUM" ????
April 13, 2008 - 21:38 ET by MrShyCompassion Forum ?
COMPASSION FORUM ??!??
COMPASSION FORUM ??!?!?!?!
Naming something "Compassion Forum" ???
I'm off to the bathroom... be right back...
Everything that is wrong with the liberal way of thinking is summed up in CNN and their naming of this sit-down thingy "Compassion Forum". Is there anything more preachy and condescending and passively/agressively lecturing in tone than calling a show "Compassion Forum"?
When you're really compassionate, you don't yell it out in big letters and advertise it. The smarmy nature of liberals makes me convulse.
Barf.
Oh, and even though Obama takes those big "I'm giving this real thought" pauses (between every other word, it seems) he still manages to blow basically sweet nothings.
