For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: General Petraeus goes to Washington (picture courtesy AP):
Gen. David Petraeus planned to testify Tuesday on the war for the first time in seven months. He was expected to tell two Senate committees that last year's influx of 30,000 troops in Iraq had helped calm some of the sectarian violence but that to prevent a backslide in security, troops would likely be needed in large numbers through the end of the year.
How do you expect his testimony to go this time? How will he be treated by Democrats? How will media report the event?
Finally, congratulations to the Jayhawks. What an amazing game last night, wouldn't you agree?

I don't know Balboa, I think his 3 point make after the steal in the inbounds pass was more devestating than the free throws. Without that steal and the make, I think Memphis can afford to miss free throws. I think Collins has played great for Kansas this tournament. He hit a huge 3 against Davidson, scored the last basket of the half against N. Carolina when N. Carolina was making a run, and played extremly well off the bench.

Yes, understandably we are focusing on the "less than 14 million" (or whatever "less than" means... okay, you want to say 10? 12 million?) "violent Muslims" acting out violently in the world.
So obviously, looking at that frightening number -- YES, Islam is a violent religion.

As sure as you seem to be that they all renounce it, I'll make a stronger argument that a sizable chunk are indifferent and/or even sympathetic to "the cause" of these radical Muslims.
But you and I know that the entire remaining Muslim populace by no means fully renounces this disgusting, horrific behavior. That's a big problem right there, added to the 14 million already fully brainwashed and under orders to kill.

April 8, 2008 - 17:16 ET by Gary P JacksonTruth, I don't hear 9 percent of Muslims renouncing terrorism, let alone 99 percent!
When those 99 percent start loudly denouncing all forms of Muslim savagery, then it will mean something. Currently 0 percent of Muslims are out there denouncing barbarity committed daily in the name of the religion of peace. And that includes acts of the most extreme kind of violence these people do to each other daily.
It's not just depraved acts of terrorism Muslims commit daily in the name of Allah, these people destroy each other for doing things most humans do as second nature. Read yesterday that these barbarians are being told by their religious leaders that it is against religious teachings to take out health insurance. How unbelievably stupid is that?
These people want to live like they did 1400 years ago, which on the surfaces doesn't matter. But since they want to forcibly demand the rest of the world follow this nutbag religion, they are indeed a problem. In it's current form, Islam is a serious world problem, one that must be ended, by any means possible, peaceful, or otherwise.

Precisely. Thank you Gary. That there are people in this world who are, I'm sure, peace-loving to their neighbors and people around them, and who coexist with us in the modern world, it's absolutely unfathomable how they run to defend -- or make some equivelancy arguement for -- the grotesque acts by people acting exclusively on their total devotion to Islam, that have been perpetrated again and again over the past few decades.
From countless suicide bombings across the globe, from small villages to big cities, beheadings and hangings put on video, the overt degradation of women, massive suicide bombing raids of large buildings and vacation resort hotels, and of course the most heiness, horrifying act of the post-industrial age, 9/11.
All of it, utterly barbaric. It makes me ill and it's absolutely unacceptable in the 21st century, or even the 20th century.
