Media's April Fools Keep Slobbering Over Obama

The following was adapted from the Media Research Center's April Fools Day Media "Reality" Check. The quotes are all fabrications written by the imaginative News Analysts at the MRC.

Panicked by the success of Rush Limbaugh's "Operation Chaos" — urging conservatives to vote for Hillary Clinton in upcoming primaries to keep the Democrats in disarray — liberal reporters are becoming even more outspoken in praising the man they regard as the all-but-certain Democratic nominee, Barack Obama.

CBS's Harry Smith sounded like a teenage groupie on the April 1 Early Show: "Obama's rock star status is reaching historic levels. His rallies attract more fans than a Hannah Montana concert and seats are impossible to get. Believe me I've tried." Over on ABC's Good Morning America, correspondent Claire Shipman didn't want either liberal to lose: "Think of the race as a pro wrestling match between Martin Luther King and Eleanor Roosevelt. Whoever loses, it will be America that winds up feeling bruised."

Print reporters are pulling out the stops, too. In his magazine's April 1 edition, Time's Joe Klein likened the Chicago pol to Martin Luther, Jonas Salk and Nelson Mandela:

Obama’s candidacy is historic, but not so much for the engaging story of his struggles with race and identity, but for his resemblance to history’s heroes. He is like a Martin Luther for boldly forcing a Reformation of crony corporate indulgences, or a Jonas Salk for inventing a vaccine for a political culture crippled by cynicism. Listening to his inspirational speech on race, he is certainly a Nelson Mandela in calming both races after a long, sorry national history of racial oppression, and a recent history of thuggish racial exploitation in GOP presidential campaigns.

In today's New York Times, columnist Roger Cohen took umbrage at a parody that poked gentle fun at Obama's outsized ears. Cohen insisted big ears are an asset: "Think about it: Would Obama be able to express so brilliantly the yearnings of Americans demoralized, even devastated, by seven-plus years of George W. Bush had he not first heard them?"

Even longtime Clinton sycophants like Newsweek's Eleanor Clift are moving to Obama. "Hillary Clinton is an extraordinary, once-in-a-generation candidate," the feminist Clift announced on the April 1 McLaughlin Group. "But I can't overlook the fact that Barack Obama is the greatest candidate of my lifetime. The Sisterhood is the Sisterhood, but Obama is the Man."

Appearing on CNN's Larry King Live, NBC's Lee Cowan recalled how nervous he was to be assigned to report on Obama. "I wondered, would I be able to do him justice? Would I be able to express the way the edges of his mouth curl up ever so slightly when he laughs? The gentle rise and fall of his chest as he falls asleep on the campaign plane, still radiating that million dollar smile that says, ‘You get it, Lee. You're the only one who does.'"

Cowan also confessed: "When I saw that Saturday Night Live skit of the news guy with a ‘man crush' on Obama, I was a little jealous to discover I wasn't the only one who felt that way."

On the April 1 Today, NBC's Meredith Vieira seemed as if she was auditioning to be the next Obama girl: "He's so sharp and dignified, he can make any suit look good....He just looks so refined and — oh, I don't know. I'd totally drink his bath water."

Liberal journalists now see Obama as more than either politician or celebrity. After a terminally-ill child appeared on the April 1 Good Morning America, co-hosts Robin Roberts and Diane Sawyer led the guests in a short on-air prayer to Obama. "We used to pray to Oprah," Sawyer explained. "Then we heard how Barack healed a leper in Yonkers. Now we know — Obama is the real thing."

But none could top MSNBC's Chris Matthews, who blurted during live coverage of an Obama campaign rally: "A couple of months ago, I said his speeches caused a thrill up my leg. Tonight he was even more impressive — I got a tingle in my shorts." — April Fools!

I'm so tired of the media's

I'm so tired of the media's free political ads for Obama. I can't turn the channel fast enough. Even if I had been inclined to vote for him, which I am not, I would have gotten just as tired of this breathless adoration these idiots have.

And that Cowan from NBC apparently needs a sex change operation. He can bunk up with Matthews.

So am I. It's sickening.

Nobody's watching with Rose colored glasses anymore

Sorry MSM guys, you can’t hide Obama anymore, the “you tube” videos are outing him while you guys are still Thrilled beyond belief with Obama’s charisma.  We’re also Thrilled that someone making over a million a year and with over $100,000,000 in campaign Contributions can be so Angry at America.  2 plus 2 isn’t 4 with this guy, he doesn’t add up.

He’s just another racist trying to leverage his Slave roots for hand outs, this time he wants your votes and blind faith.

The new car smell has worn off, and we’re beginning to kick the tires.

Videos

Maybe the reporters, as have many others, watched more than the 12 second clips--instead of remainng ignorant of the whole and lashed to the solacious venal clips.
As evidenced by the bigotry in many comments, a small group will continue to spew racist comments regardless of the lack of truth to their statements.
The underbelly is always with us --whether from the left or right.

Rose Colored Glasses

You are right, Obama will be more fully examined

by people who are not being led like sheep by this

man.   He is not the "Messiah".  After 20 years of

going to the Liberation Church, he knows a lot

more about his pastor's hatred of America and

their agenda.   He is a "wolf in sheep's clothing"

as far as I'm concerned.

OH YEAH...

Obama is being allowed to fly under the radar, unchecked, & anyone who asks him to explain himself on anything is a racist hatemonger, count me in if that's the case.

I am really afraid of what the reaction will be when they find out what Obama is really about if he gets elected. Holy smoke, he will get pounded by the polls, then we'll see if MSM will be in the tank for him as much as they have been if he gets The White House & tanks the country. The MSM does not like to be thought of a racist, but can they, will they, ignore it if it happens.

Another Michael Savage

Another Michael Savage interview last night with a man, whose name I did not catch. He was African American and was disappointed in Obama. He said he's running as a candidate based on affirmative action. He has not had to prove himself because each time someone questions him on the issues, a racial card is thrown. And he never disputes that there is a racial overtone to anyone who questions him. This man felt Obama was not truly representing ALL the people and that the white people who are rallying around him are just afraid that they would be labeled as prejudice for NOT voting for him. It's truly a sad state of affairs, and this gentleman was excellant.

marpel,

That would be the Rev. Manning of Harlem.

He called Obama out big time.

His methods are a little unorthodox, but he tells it like it is.

Most here don't like the man, but I kind of do. :-)

Theme for Election '08: I want my mommy!

RD, I heard snipets of

RD, I heard snipets of Manning's sermons but this guy sounded too calm. But, maybe it was. I had run up to the store and had it on my car radio, so I missed the man's introduction. I think Manning is a bit harsh, but not any more harsh than Wright. Thanks, RD! :o)

marpel,

It was Manning, as I heard Michael introduce him at the beginning of the segment.

He is much calmer when he does radio and TV appearences. Sean has had him on, as have a few others.

LOL-Needless to say, he doesn't think much of the "messiah."

Theme for Election '08: I want my mommy!

Manning for President.

Manning for President. LOL!! Love it!!

Media's April Fools Keep Slobbering Over Obama

Remove the word "April" and you would be correct anytime.

I just read all of this

I just read all of this post put together by NB Staff...I started cracking up laughing so hard when I got to Matthews I had to wait to stop coughing to post here...thanks guys.

What is funny too..is the fact that this isn't that far from the truth....

Speaking of Operation Chaos...Mika killed me this morning, what an empty-head that woman is...she was all excited about the newly registered dems...at the very last minute mind you for filing to vote....no Mika, Rush and Operation Chaos had nada, zilch, zero to do with it...

LMAO!

What a whiz-bang that woman is...sound effect machine is all she is...and she constantly does that at the wrong times too...I just shake my head in disbelief at her anymore.

Bigtimer, I heard her say

Bigtimer, I heard her say that and thought the exact same thing. Seems like Scarborough went right along with it too. Yep, Mika was in rare, air-headed form this a.m!!
