The only reason I'd be interested enough to talk about basketball would be the same reason I'd talk about ballet:  If I had some money riding on it in some way. 

Otherwise, discussing entertainment is just entertainment for those entertained by the first entertainment.  Chuckle.

Sorry to disappoint, but the Cats will be sending the Zags home early this year.

As much as I love basketball in the state of Carolina, IMHO UCLA will defeat the Heels in the finals. BTW, my other finalists are the Badgers and the Panthers.

If conservatives are RIGHT, then liberals must be WRONG.

After what can only be described as a phenomenal performance last weekend, my beloved Dawgs rolled over in the first round of the tournament.

They had a nice 4-game run during the SEC Tournament, but I guess when you lose 11 of the 13 games before that tournament, things tend to catch up wiith ya.

I am wondering if this might be the season Pitt FINALLY gets past the Sweet Sixteen, or will they choke again, as usual. Check out this track record:

2002 - Sweet Sixteen: lost to Kent St. OT

2003 - Sweet Sixteen: lost to Marquette by 4

2004 - Sweet Sixteen: lost to Okie State by 8

2005 - First round: lost to Pacific (choke choke choke!)

2006 - Second-Round: lost to Bradley by 6

2007 - Sweet Sixteen: lost to UCLA by 9

As a HUGE Pitt fan I'd love to say I think they have it in them, especially now since the Knight himself has them winning it all.  I just have this horrid feeling in my gut that they will blow it all in the end. 

 

Time will tell I suppose. its just so painful to see a talented local team go so far each year, and display such great talent and team structure, only to phone it in at the end.

my thought is there will always be a longshot:  mine is Xavier beats UCLA in the eight but loses to Texas in the four

NC beats Kansas in the four and beats Texas for the tourney.

An eleven beating a six is very common. This is actually where a lot of money is made in the early rounds, and a lot of fun for us REAL fans that aren't Tar Heels. :-)

All kidding aside, the fun in the first round is in the 4-13, 5-12, and 6-11 matchups. Virtually every year, there are big upsets in these matchups.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program. ns

Devils going nowhere this year. Heels can't be beat.

Just so you know, I'm a HUGE Dean Smith fan, and really like Roy Williams. If you haven't noticed, I'm a college BB fan. I actually love most of these teams, and hold no animosity towards any of them.

I want to see a great tournament, that's all. And, right now, my money's on the Heels -- a fine organization I've respected for decades. Honestly.  ns

As much as I hate Duke, my brackets would have been done if Belmont won. But after they lost early to VCU last year, im convinced theyve got something to prove this year.

dook lost to Clemson in the semi-finals. It was the first time Clemson had beaten dook in 22 years (got a good coach and coming up in the world - I'd bet on them winning their first two games).

Clemson lost to UNC in the final.

You're probably thinking about the Heels beating the Devils three weeks ago - that was in the regular season. They play each other twice every year.

WVU

Yep - maybe a couch or two, but they're saving them up for Saturday.  WVU can do well against Duke because Duke doesn't have the big guys that tend to give WVU a hard time.  They match up against Duke better than any of the other #2s.  Should be a good game.

It looks like a good year for the Big East in general.  Could be a 1st round sweep if Villanove pulls one out.
