For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: McCain reverses trend, now leads in head-to-head poll against Obama (paragraph breaks eliminated):
The poll showed Arizona Sen. McCain, who has clinched the Republican presidential nomination, is benefiting from the lengthy campaign battle between Obama and Clinton, who are now battling to win Pennsylvania on April 22...McCain leads 46 percent to 40 percent in a hypothetical matchup against Obama in the November presidential election, according to the poll...That is a sharp turnaround from the Reuters/Zogby poll from last month, which showed in a head-to-head matchup that Obama would beat McCain 47 percent to 40 percent.
"The last couple of weeks have taken a toll on Obama and in a general election match-up, on both Democrats," said pollster John Zogby...Matched up against Clinton, McCain leads 48 percent to 40 percent, narrower than his 50 to 38 percent advantage over her in February.
Are people starting to feel better about McCain's chances? Is it becoming clear that the media meme surrounding inevitable Democrat success at the polls in November was as accurate as their premature coronation of Hillary?

Another Kristof piece on Obama
March 18, 2008 - 16:24 ET by PShannon
On February 27th, 2007, Barack Hussein Obama said the Muslim call to prayer is "one of the prettiest sounds on Earth."
In an interview with Nicholas Kristof, published in The New York Times, Obama recited the Muslim call to prayer, the Adhan, "with a first-class [Arabic] accent."
The opening lines of the Adhan (Azaan) is the Shahada:
"Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme!
Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme!
I witness that there is no god but Allah
I witness that there is no god but Allah
I witness that Muhammad is his prophet... "
According to Islamic scholars, reciting the Shahada, the Muslim declaration of faith, makes one a Muslim. This simple yet profound statement expresses a Muslim's complete acceptance of, and total commitment to, the message of Islam.
Obama knows this from his Quranic studies -- and he knows the New York Times will publish this fact and it will be seen throughout the Islamic world.
Regardless of Obama's religion, what message is he sending the world's 1.2 billion Muslims?

March 19, 2008 - 13:09 ET by R D HelmFallon's resignation, for whatever reason notwithstanding, I see Iran, under its current leadership, to be a little more of an immediate danger than many seem to.
This kook has stated numerous times that he intends to nuke Israel off the map. Empty rhetoric? Maybe, but I am willing to take the man at his word here, because I think he is just unstable enough to do it. In his warped way of thinking, he has nothing to lose.
The Iranians already have a missile capable of reaching Israel, not to mention many possible targets in Europe. All they need now is a warhead. Whether or not they are capable of "rolling their own" here is really immaterial at this point.
Last time I checked, there were approximately 13 nuclear devices floating around out there that are unaccounted for. Has anyone considered that the Iranians might just up and buy one?

I think most of what 'the kook' says is garbage. He's got a strong poker face.
Furthermore, he's threatening Israel. Let them deal with it, we already have two wars going. A threat against Israel is not a threat against me. As we've seen time and time again, Israel is perfectly capable of protecting themselves, so I wouldn't worry about them. They'll be ok.
Leon,
March 19, 2008 - 13:33 ET by R D HelmI don't want to see us go to war with Iran, either, as I really don't think it's necessary.
What I'm really hoping to see is the Iranians take this guy down themselves. They are some of the most educated people in the region, and that Hitler wanna-be has pretty much trashed their economy. The unrest there is growing daily.
Anything we can do, including a little saber rattling once in a while, to hasten this clown's ouster from power is okay with me.
My only concern with the Israelis is that, if Ahmadinejad does try and take out, say, Tel Aviv, the Israelis will be sending something right back at them, and I don't think it will be a Christmas Card, either.
That has to be prevented no matter what.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

Hey JDW... Wonder if
March 19, 2008 - 17:38 ET by bigtimerHey JDW...
Wonder if Hill's done throwing her temper-tantrum yet?
Wonder if those archives of hers released today will shed any light on... oh say for instance Travel-Gate.
You never know...bet Billy Dale is reading through them...or was that before the first nineteen days of her records/doings/appts being catalogued?
Before the Inauguration.
More from James Manning
March 19, 2008 - 14:39 ET by candanceFound some more clips from the lovable Rev. Manning. It seems he rather enjoys bashing Barack Obama.
Witness him calling Obama white trash.
Here he says God sent Katrina to hit New Orleans and throws in some bashing of Franklin Graham for good measure.
Here he says white Americans are happy because they found a house negro they can vote for.
Help! I have switched to
March 19, 2008 - 15:03 ET by bigtimerHelp!
I have switched to Firefox as of yesterday...
I am having two problems...I cannot drag and drop here from an article to my post...
My main problem though is I have a script line on the bottom of my screen that tells me what is allowed and what isn't...stuff I don't understand...how do I get rid of this and this site appears normal except (it shows blocked ads with a big S like a snake in black and red)...plus it blocks some of the video, I have to click it to allow it to come on...Surely there is same easy way to get rid of this script stuff.
Any suggestions would be helpful as I am stupid when it comes to computers and the programs...gosh I wished I was raised around them or my son lived closer....lol.
A Big THANK YOU sent

"Long, drawn out war"
March 19, 2008 - 19:22 ET by nkviking75Hey MRC, as you study today's coverage of the 5th anniversary of the war, I suggest you pay attention to all the references to the "long, drawn-out" war. CBS's Kimberly Dozier on tonight's CBS Evening News would be a good place to start.
In one sense, any war is too long, but this one really isn't an unusually long one so far, is it?
When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.
»→ Long, drawn out war
March 19, 2008 - 19:37 ET by Cool ArrowThe Battle of Antietam claimed 23,000 lives in a day.
Sort of puts that "long. drawn out war" (4,000 lives) nonsense in perspective.

Cool, Still 4,000 more
March 19, 2008 - 19:41 ET by LeonCool,
Still 4,000 more than would have been dead had we not rushed to war.
Furthermore,
the casualty count comparison is incredibly callous and insulting to
the troops that HAVE died in Iraq. I can't believe people even
make that argument. ONLY 4,000??? Sickening.
Nonsense in perspective? Yeah, unless of course you're one of those dead soldiers, their family or their friends.

March 19, 2008 - 19:53 ET by Cool ArrowI anticipated this very retort would come back at me if I didn't preface my statement with "though all loss of life is regrettable"
Somehow I didn't think Liberals who "ad monotanum" recite the mantra : "I support the troops, but not the war" would so quickly chime in against my lack of caveat.
Somehow I forgot that any retort is a good retort when it comes to libs.
So henceforth, and forevermore, regardless of the topic, please take as a given my remarks are prefaced with "though all loss of life is regrettable"
Again, you're too predictable.

No Cool, That's really how
March 19, 2008 - 19:54 ET by LeonNo Cool,
That's really how you people think. You don't have to make any sacrifices for the war, so it's all just numbers to you.
It's insane. Your post speaks for itself.
»→ You people?
March 19, 2008 - 20:03 ET by Cool ArrowSo you were a member of the armed forces, Leon?
Where did you serve? Did you offer yourself up for any of our country's military conflicts?

Cool, I didn't serve. But
March 19, 2008 - 20:10 ET by LeonCool,
I didn't serve. But my whole family did and does.
As do many of my friends (snacks en route 1st ANGLICO).
But
whether you served is irrelevant to whether or not you
understand why casualty counts are callous and offensive.
»→ Then Leon
March 19, 2008 - 20:18 ET by Cool ArrowBut you just referenced that same body count, Leon. I will not concede my reference to those 4,000 Americans is callous, but you claim "casualty counts are callous and offensive"
You, in referring to those same casualty counts, which you condemn, are being admittedly callous.
