For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Spitzer's call girl could turn her fame into fortune:
According to Reuters, the prostitute reportedly hired by former New York Governor, Eliot Spitzer may be turning her instant fame into cash.... Hustler’s Larry Flynt told Access Hollywood Friday that he is prepared to offer Dupre $1 million to pose nude in his magazine. Penthouse Magazine Group president, Diane Silberstein said they would also consider offering Dupre a nude photo spread, according to Reuters.
Is Ashley Dupre about to become extremely rich as a result of Spitzer's arrest? Given her looks, can Hollywood be far away? What does this say about our society if she indeed becomes a big star after having been in the center of a sex scandal that brought down a high-ranking political official?

Ashley
March 16, 2008 - 11:36 ET by iveseenitallThe Ashley Dupre situation is just another example of the complete reversal of values America has witnessed over the past few decades. Perhaps Bill Clinton said it best when asked why he did what he did. He said, "Because I could". America has deteriorated into a moral cesspool. Modern "liberalism" and relativism have dug us into a hole, and we keep digging. It is probably too late to change the nation in general. For sure, the real "change" we need is not going to come from the likes of the communists Obama or Clinton. The only thing left is for each individual to lead the best llife he/she can. I am afraid, however, that something big is on the horizon. It will make the "changes" for us. And the irony is that the young , like this Ashley girl, are the ones who wil ultimately suffer the most. It makes me both angry and sad.

Obama Knew of His Pastor's Views.
March 16, 2008 - 11:28 ET by motherbeltObama Knew of His Pastor's Views.
I found on Michelle Malkin's site last night a posting that discusses Obama's claim that he didn't know his pastor held such virulent views. I had to follow a couple more links through Sister Toldjah and Patterico, but eventually ended up at a NYT story from last April, entitled "A Candidate, His Minister and the Search for Faith."
It's a long, very interesting article, chronicling Obama's faith and his church, and his relationship with Rev. Jeremiah Wright. It contains this gem:
Few of those at Mr. Wright’s tribute in March knew of the pressures that Mr. Obama’s presidential run was placing on the relationship between the pastor and his star congregant. Mr. Wright’s assertions of widespread white racism and his scorching remarks about American government have drawn criticism, and prompted the senator to cancel his delivery of the invocation when he formally announced his candidacy in February.
(emphasis added)
Ir's a good explanation of why he "disinvited" the Pastor from offering the prayer.
But the real gold nugget, the money quote, is at the end, which completely shoots down Obama's claim that he wasn't aware of Wright's extreme views, and it's right from Rev. Wright's mouth (keep in mind, this was April 2007):
According to the article, Rev. Wright said, in an interview (specifics not provided)
“If Barack gets past the primary, he might have to publicly distance himself from me,” Mr. Wright said with a shrug. “I said it to Barack personally, and he said yeah, that might have to happen.”
Sen. Obama knew that his pastor held the views that he had, and he knew that they would be a major drag on his campaign. He knew it a year ago. Was he just hoping none of it would surface? Or was he suprmely confident in his ability to defuse it?
mb...your "money quote"
March 16, 2008 - 11:30 ET by BlondeSmells a bit like a smoking gun.
I found this para to be interesting as well (discussing Obama's "conversion"):
Still, Mr. Obama was entranced by Mr. Wright, whose sermons fused analysis of the Bible with outrage at what he saw as the racism of everything from daily life in Chicago to American foreign policy. Mr. Obama had never met a minister who made pilgrimages to Africa, welcomed women leaders and gay members and crooned Teddy Pendergrass rhythm and blues from the pulpit. Mr. Wright was making Trinity a social force, initiating day care, drug counseling, legal aid and tutoring. He was also interested in the world beyond his own; in 1984, he traveled to Cuba to teach Christians about the value of nonviolent protest and to Libya to visit Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi, along with the Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. Mr. Wright said his visits implied no endorsement of their views.
So young Barry was "entranced"? And now pretends he had (has) no clue?

March 16, 2008 - 11:38 ET by motherbeltIt is a very interesting and detailed piece....and in the Paper of Record! LOL
I don't know why politicians think they can change their stories with impunity, when their previous actions and statements can be retrieved so easily.
Rev. Wright said "past the primaries" but it looks like events came to a head sooner than either one thought.
I too love the "visits without endorsement" philosophy. It's kind of like Obama saying he's "proud of his pastor" at the same time that he's distancing himself from his views.

March 16, 2008 - 13:08 ET by Chris NormanI held down dinner long enough last night to watch a few minutes of "Geraldo (is still) at Large". He actually checked on Obama's where-abouts on the dates Wright gave these "sermons" that have been televised. As if the fact Obama wasn't there when these particular rants were given somehow excuses him of all knowledge. I wrote yesterday that there is no way he didn't know the kind of hate Wright was spewing forth - even if he didn't hear every last one of them first hand.

March 16, 2008 - 14:19 ET by motherbeltWell, Chris, there when he said it or not, the NYT article makes it plain that he knew, if Wright even acknowledged that Obama would ahve to distance himself from it.

The good news...little Barry's approval ratings are sinking like a cement glider over this issue. The more he talks around it, the clearer (dare I say crystal) it becomes, even to his "fans", that this rock star is nothing but hot air. Hope for change, indeed. NOT.

Obama attended "Rev" Wright's church 20 years, (voluntarily) and he never once was in attendance when Wright produced his racist rants? I guess this doesnt strike anyone in the media as a little far fetched.
Obama is running the biggest hoax on the American people since PT Barnum. And a bunch of them are buying it because they hate this administration so bad and Republicans in general that they will swallow anything hook, line and sinker.

And most of them assume all pastors are crazy in some way or another. They're already running around saying, "look at John Hagee! look at Jerry Falwell! Christians always say controversial things!" They honesty think Jerry Falwell's views are comparable to Wright's comments.

March 16, 2008 - 16:51 ET by motherbeltAnyone else see this at American Spectator? James Lucier has a column How McCain Can Win the Base.
The strategy? Name new LA Governor Bobby Jindal as his running-mate.
He says this about Jindal:
And what a governor! Sworn as Governor in January, after winning 54 percent of the vote in the open-field primary, Jindal immediately called a special session of the legislature and persuaded them to pass his 64-point agenda for ethics reform. They said ethics reform couldn't be done in Louisiana -- a state whose reputation as a cesspool is legendary -- but he did it in a two-week session. Now he's calling a second special session to pass the tax cuts necessary to jump-start the post-Katrina economy in his state.
He then catalogues Jindal's plusses....youth to McCain's age, but youth with experience on fiscal matters, Medicare, etc. Lucier makes a case for Jindal in every area of expertise that will be looked at.
It sounds like a great idea to me!
