For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Tensions are rising around the world:
- China increasing military spending
- Venezuelan troops massing at Colombian border
- Iran is close to having nuclear weapons
Is this time for a dove in the White House? How does candidate McCain make this case in the next eight months without appearing like the war-monger the far left depicts him as? Are these rising tensions something he should capitalize on and potentially even trump voters' economic concerns? Or, in the end, will November be exclusively about wallets and pocketbooks?

And now, today's Shrub
March 5, 2008 - 10:41 ET by Roger the ShrubberAnd now, today's Shrub Report®:
238 years ago today five Bostonians were killed and the seeds of the American Revolution were planted.
Obama wept…
Congrads to Ron Paul for winning his Congressional primary seat. The $30 per vote spent was well worth it. Please take note that, in this district, Paul received 35,000 votes for congress, but only 6,500 votes for president (read the extremely-rational explanations here. Fun stuff!). Even his constituents understand Paul's ill-equipped to be president. But do not let that fact stop you genius Paulbots from filling Ronny's pockets, er, donating money to 5% Revolution!
Now that Huckabee has finally dropped out, can we please be spared the McCain sucks/Huckabee is great rants?
Rap mogul/drug dealer/Brownie fan found guilty of being a douche.
Save the planet: eat a whale!
Our photojournalists hard at work…
Gene Simmons: genius.
FARC hearts Obama! I just knew Ecuador was in Chavez's back pocket.
The Iraqi government takes another baby step forward. The Surge has Failed!
Today's edition of Guess the Party! Even in the next-to-last line you have to figure it out yourself.
What a conundrum for liberals! This very British-looking nurse killed four elderly patients. Sure, he committed murder, but those victims were old, feeble, heavy burdens on the state. That nurse was doing England a favor, right?
The headaches for the Left continue. Michigan Wal-Marts are fixing prices for Mooslims.
Even more headaches! What's a good Comrade to do?
And, finally, the Coup de grâce: Joe Stalin died 55 years ago today. Boo-hoo, Comrades…
More news about bored, innocent youths of undetectable ethnic or religious affiliation in France.
Pakistan has a navy?
The Picture of the Day
And finally, baseball season is right around the bend. We all knew baseball players were big sissies, right?.

DasBlimp sucking hundreds of thousands of dollars that could have been better used to promote Paul = VICTORY!
$30 million raised by Paulbots to gather a meager 21 delegates = VICTORY!
Paulbots raising over $1 million dollars to collect 35,000 votes in his district, 29,000 of them who would not vote for him for president = VICTORY!
Donating blood, semen, hair, and toenail clippings so 5% of Ron Paul's home state will vote for him = VICTORY!
Calling out DasSarkbot for being a robotic Ron Paul link generator and out of touch, over-hyphenating crybaby = WHINING!

March 5, 2008 - 11:13 ET by motherbeltWhile I definitely agree that the base is less than ecstatic over McCain, I hesitate to attribute the low (well, OK, nonexistent LOL) turnout to that alone.
I guess it could be a protest non-vote...but a fat lot of good it does now!

Primary vote's that don't matter
March 5, 2008 - 13:25 ET by SouthJersey1953I voted in the NJ Primary for the first time ever this year because for the first time ever, it mattered. NJ Primary used to be in June when decision was already made. If the NJ Primary was yesterday, I wouldn't have bothered because McLame was already (for all intents and purposes) the candidate. I am not surprised the Rpub numbers in TX and OH were down and the Dems were up. The Dems still had a fight on their hands.
Probably Not
March 5, 2008 - 11:13 ET by CGatton"...half as many Republicans voted....and it's a 1,000,000 vote difference ..."
The media tries to spin this into a big deal, the McCain haters try to spin this into big deal...it's meaningless. The drama is all on the Dem side, and so what do we really see, when we remember Republicans had little reason to cast a primary vote in their own election, but quite an incentive to vote in the Democrat primary? General election numbers are from the 2004 presedential election.
Ohio Primary General
Dem 2.1 M 2.7 M
Rep 1.0 M 2.8 M
Texas Primary General
Dem 2.8 M 2.8 M
Rep 1.4 M 4.5 M
The sense of doing something was all on the democrat side, hence the larger turnout. Almost their entire base turned out, actually. Other than that, the numbers mean nothing, though there are those who would have you think otherwise. They have nothing in reserve for the general election...whereas the Republicans have a large reserve.

Balboa, your great ignorace
March 5, 2008 - 12:24 ET by futbolisgreat1Balboa, your great ignorace in South America would be laughable if it wasn't so pathetic. Along with the other liberals that are talking about South America, Colombia, Venzuela etc, it is obvious that you live in a box. Here is a little history that has not been taught to you by the Liberal media that you so love to defend.
1) Hugo Chavez is allowing Venezuela to be used by Hamas, Hezbollah, and other Islamic Terrorist groups to create training bases in South America.
2) Hugo Chavez has made deals with Iran to receive nuclear material to be able to create dirty bombs.
3) Hugo Chavez has paid billions of dollars to the Russians in military arms deals. The Venezuelan army is armed to the teeth with modern Russian weapons.....why?
4) You seem to mock United States stand on not allowing communism to flourish in Vietnam and other countries because if one country fell to communism others will follow. I guess no one ever taught you Eastern European history, right? I am sure they loved being under USSR rule for decades, correct? Typical mindless liberal that mocks the suffering of millions of people.
5) You don't bother to mock Hugo Chavez and his talk about the USA wanting to invade Venezuela. Why are you so quick to mock your own country, but not Venezuela?
6) Hugo Chavez has allowed FARC (a Marxist terrorist group in Colombia) to use Venezuelan and Ecuadorian (yes, if you believe that Ecuador's "President" is actually ruling Ecuador you are beyond help) land to train.
7) Hugo Chavez and Ecuador have allowed FARC to use Venezuelan and Ecuadorian soil to escape when Colombian troops are chasing them and fighting them.
8) Hugo Chavez has allowed Cuban secret police to roam the streets of Venezuela. Top FARC leaders are constantly being caught roaming the streets of Caracas and other major Venezuelan cities with armed Venezuelan guards protecting them.
9) Hugo Chavez is financing FARC.
10) I do hope that your immense ignorance doesn't extend to not knowing who FARC is and the great atrocities that they have committed in Colombia. Although, I am sure education is NOT one of your (or any Liberals) forte.
11) The reason Hugo Chavez is in an uproar is because concrete evidence has been found to his connection to FARC and because Venezuelans, who are suffering on a daily basis, are sick and tired of Hugo Chavez's pretty speeches (which if you have followed Venezuelan politics, his speeches of hope and change are eerily similar to Barack Obama's speeches)
I could keep on going, but it doesn't surprise me how shallow and uneducated you liberals are. You mock your own government, your own country and stay silent about true dictators and monters like Hugo Chavez. Along with 99% of Liberals, you are an embarrasment to humanity.
why are Liberals such empty headed individuals? why?
The sad part is that Liberals believe going to college and getting a bachelors degree is all the education they need. How truly sad and pathetic.
I look forward with great
March 5, 2008 - 12:29 ET by balboaI look forward with great anticipation to our invasion of Venezuela.
My uneducated Liberal
March 5, 2008 - 12:36 ET by futbolisgreat1My uneducated Liberal Balboa,
who the heck ever said anything about an invasion of Venezuelan...but we will help Colombia defeat the sad human being that Hugo Chavez is if this moron starts anything.
yes, it is all fun and games to you, dumb Liberal, since you don't have family living under the dictatorship of Hugo Chavez. Man you are pathetic.
Stupid Liberals, they don't care unless it affects them directly and even then.......
As I said, you aren't much of a historian, if not you wouldn't be mocking the death and suffering of millions of people who died under communism. idiot.
I look forward with great
March 5, 2008 - 12:41 ET by balboaI look forward with great anticipation to your eloquent, thoughtful posts.
my post aren't eloquent
March 5, 2008 - 12:48 ET by futbolisgreat1my post aren't eloquent (they aren't ment to be so).....but they speak the truth my ignorant, uneducated Liberal.
but I am glad you can't wait for my posts.
They are 100% more informative than the crap that you defend on the Liberal MSM.
Try educate yourself before you mock the suffering of millions of people.
Shawn: The reported
March 5, 2008 - 11:30 ET by BDShawn:
The reported "Overstretchng of the military"is overemphasized.
The pace of military operations right now is not as high as the OPTEMPO encountered from 1940-1946. During that period, units deployed overseas away from home for up to three years, with significantly higher casualty figures than encountered now.
Like today, we had all volunteer units (Marines, Airborne, Rangers etc) who did not return on 365-450 day schedules to CONUS to refit.
In my opinion, the Army is capable of going further than it is currently, if the cause is worthy.
BD, you are expecting Shawn
March 5, 2008 - 12:32 ET by futbolisgreat1BD, you are expecting Shawn to think on his own and to not believe the media and Liberal anti-Bush and anti-military talk.
Didn't you know BD, because the media and the Liberals say that our military is overstretched, it makes it so!! c'mon, get with the game plan.
Don't worry about facts, about history.....to a Liberal these two things mean nothing.
Most Liberals don't care to know that the 130,000 troops or so deployed in Iraq and the 12,000 troops deployed in Afghanistan, together don't even represent 10% of our troops. They have ZERO clue of that the american military has well over 2.5 million soldiers active and reserves.
They have been told that the American military is overstreteched and by goodness gracious, no matter the facts our troops are overstretched.
For Liberals, ignorance is bliss.
shawn228, I see you have
March 5, 2008 - 11:38 ET by bassndudeshawn228, I see you have bought into the left wing moonbat anti military jargon going around. Chavez's army is not much of an army, the Columbian army is far superior to either of the others involved here. Why do you thing they are ganging up here? Neither one could go to war with Columbia and win, on their own. Equador cried to Chavez.
Two Bn of US Rangers, and one SF group could take care of Chavez. Equador will cringe at every chopper and plane that flys. Wont take long, and the Rangers are more than willing.
Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!
basssndude, you are
March 5, 2008 - 12:44 ET by futbolisgreat1basssndude,
you are right, the Venezuelan armed forces is not much of an army. All together, active and reserves I believe they have about 400,000 soldiers. Furthermore, unlike in the USA those in Venezuela that join the armed forces or are forced to join and incredibly poorly educated, a lack of education that is NOT known here in the USA (well close to how uneducated Liberals are.... hahaha)...in all seriousness, it is like 4th graders with the body of 20 some and 30 somes.
What I am afraid of, is that they are armed with latest Russian military technology, which cannot be mock. I mean, Ak-47s, Sukos, Russian tanks in the hands of 12 years old can do great harm. I mean, true, the Colombia armed forces is much better train, but the devistation would be terrible.
Hugo Chavez is a dangerous man who has opened up his country to terrorist, Hamas, Hezbollah, FARC, Cuban secret police....he needs to go.
You know what is truly scary, that back in 1998 when he was democraticly elected, his speeches were eerily similar to that of Obama's speeches of hope and change. I kid you not! No subtance to the speeches, but a lot about hope and change.
He had the same freaking message of hope and change and Venezuelans, including most of my family, bought into it. Now, everyone knows better.
Chavez needs to go and if he starts a war in South America, I hope he and his supporters are taken out fast.
Bass, isn't it interesting
