For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: What should folks that believe in manmade global warming be called?
The results of yesterday's poll indicate most NBers feel those that don't believe in anthropogenic global warming should be called "climate realists." Now, it's time to come up with a name for those that believe man is responsible for climate change.
However, before starting a new poll, I'd like some ideas. The purpose here is not to be inflammatory, or insulting -- although those looking to poke some fun should feel free to.
Instead, I'm looking for serious considerations to include in a poll. At this point, the options are: Climate Pessimist, Warm-monger, Warmaholic, Climate Alarmist, Warminator (courtesy of Anthony Watts), and Hot Head. Any other suggestions?

Let's "change" America
February 18, 2008 - 13:05 ET by iveseenitallI am sick and tired of this message of "change". So Michelle Obama thinks Americans are "soulless". I, for one, don't want to change the land where my father died. He, and millions of "soulless" white males served their country when called upon, built communities, worked 50 weeks a year to support their families, and established a moral foundation for their children. They supported, some with their lives, the civil rights the Obamas now enjoy. Further back in history, through devastaing personal sacrifice, they wrote freedom into the Declaration of Independence and the Constituion of the United States. How ungrateful the Frank Riches of the world appear to me as his bashes our patriots-- implying that they are nothing but country club white "racists". How much more of the burden do these "liberals" want the white man to carry as they seek to raise his taxes and force him to be "his brother's keeper" while they cower at the thought of defending this nation against the terrorists who want to destroy what men like my father built with every ounce of devotion to the greater good? Obama is nothing but an ungrateful, spoiled child, a "liberal" socialist who has enjoyed all that white males (and others) have given and now claims to want to "change" it. Sickening.

February 18, 2008 - 16:33 ET by motherbeltiveseenitall, Michelle Obama doesn't think we're "soulless" she just thinks our souls are "broken" and her husband is the only one who can "fix" them. We are sick, and incapable of healing ourselves; we need St. Barack the Great to do it for us.
What the hell is a "broken soul" and how does her husband intend to repair it? What, if we let him lead us, we will become "whole again"?
Oh, please.
That's right up there with "We are the ones that we have been waiting for."
When I hear him say that, I want to give him a T shirt like one I saw a guy wearing, that said: "I've gone to find myself. If I get back before I return, please keep me here."
Motherbelt
February 18, 2008 - 18:55 ET by iveseenitallYou are right, Motherbelt; she did say "broken souls". The arrogance of these ignorant, under-educated fools who go to Princeton and Harvard and learn nothing at all is disgusting. Humility is a quality in a true leader. Yet humility is lost on the Obamas. For a person in her 40's to have the level of gall this woman expresses in that one idea --that she or her husband can fix broken souls--is quite telling and quite freightening. Ignorance knows no boundaries today.

Both are campaigning/campaigned on hope and change with little substance to back it up. Deval Patrick successfully pulled off the ruse and the great people of Massachusetts have been left to watch him make one mistake after another with an "I can't believe I actually one the thing" look on his face since the day he took office.
Little did I know how similar they really were...

February 18, 2008 - 20:17 ET by NL207This guy is a dolt! He with one breath condemns a government controlled currency manuipulation scheme and then in the next extols a competitive government controlled currency manipulation scheme.
This Iranian scheme is doomed for the same reason that US currency twiddling is doomed policy. And the Iranian scheme will fail with much less force. At $100 per barrel, oil in the US and Canada is so plentiful that we can simply ignore Iran. The Euro is enormously vulnerable to two factors: (1) The socialist governments of Europe tottering in the edge of bankruptcy and (2) Chinese competition in European markets. The Europeans can't afford their welfare states without continuing to oppress millions of immigrants and they can't keep out the Chinese forever.
Um, can you give an example??
February 19, 2008 - 04:19 ET by sarcasmoSaying it doesn't prove it, and $100 ain't what it used to be. Iran either does or doesn't have a right to sell Iranian oil for crappy fiat currencies. (This "crappy fiat currencies" category includes Euros and Rubles along with USD.) Is Iran allowed to do this with Iran's oil? If so, why all the hysteria from the US media whenever they act like they're going to try?
Eventually, they'll figure-out what's real money again along with everyone else who'll need to learn/re-learn monetary history. Coherence in terms rather than the usual name-calling might help your argument, because you're FAR from proving your case, and what this "dolt" said in 2006 happens to be in the process of coming true before your eyes...

'Activist wanted limits on advertising after Hillarycare defeat'
An investigative author says George Soros used Sen. John McCain to push for limits on issue advertising by grassroots groups because he was upset over the cataclysmic failure of Hillarycare, the all-encompassing government health care program proposed during Bill Clinton's first term as president.
The author, Richard Poe, told WND that Soros later funded the senator's Reform Institute because of their work together on the McCain-Feingold Act.
"Money paid to the Reform Institute rewarded McCain for pushing the McCain-Feingold Act, a law which restricts the ability of grassroots groups to advertise on television, while allowing major media free rein to promote their favorite Democrat candidates," Poe told WND.
According to the author, Soros devised McCain-Feingold in 1994 in response to the failure of Hillarycare, the universal health care program Hillary Clinton championed.
Hillary, Soros and other Democrats blamed the defeat of Hillarycare on television advertising and, as a result, Soros resolved to choke off access to the TV airwaves to those opponents, Poe told WND... More >>

McCain also
February 19, 2008 - 07:09 ET by sarcasmoWas a Senator with enough time on his hands to be one of the early political attackers of "ultimate fighting." While I found the young sport somewhat disturbing to watch in its early days, I found the prospect of politicians wanting to regulate it even-more-disturbing, especially considering 2 things:
1. Ali's brain problems seemed to be a result at least in part of boxing, and this new sport -- violent as it looks -- seems safer (without being safe) from that standpoint.
2. Boxing was dying. It's dull these days unless the rapist bites someone's ear off or SOMETHING having absolutely-nothing to do with boxing happens. That had to change, and especially in its disturbing early days, the UFC was interesting.
The UFC-innovators really preceded today's UFC. People like Gracie had to sell, and apparently it took casino-money and some new rules to keep the politicians at bay. Maybe the rules were needed, but if rules were to come I wish they'd evolved freely in the sports -- not political lobbyist -- marketplace. That they didn't speaks volumes of our obese-government problems, IMO.

If this is winning, I think I'd rather lose...
But it's not a government bailout
