For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: the inner workings of an illegal immigrant smuggling ring:
Forty-eight people accused of taking part in an immigrant trafficking ring have been indicted on human smuggling and money laundering charges, authorities said.
The group brought in as much as $130,000 a week moving people from Naco, Mexico, to its center of operations in Phoenix and then to destinations across the United States, Phoenix police Lt. Vince Piano said Thursday.
Does this shock you? What does it say about our immigration policy and our borders? Will either Party ever come up with a solution that will be both effective AND politically beneficial to them, which, of course, is MUCH MORE IMPORTANT than good policy, right?

And now, today's Shrub
February 15, 2008 - 11:13 ET by Roger the ShrubberAnd now, today's Shrub Report®:
Just a thought: why are they naming the victims of the N Illinois U shooting, but not the shooter? I wonder… Thankfully, it happened in a gun-free zone.
Speaking of douchebags killing people, 75 years ago today, an Italian wee-man tried to assassinate FDR in Florida. Since this Commie/Anarchist dumbass was only five feet tall, he had to stand on a rickety chair to get a good view of FDR at a speech. The chair wobbled at the wrong time, causing this tard to miss his shot, but did kill the mayor of Chicago, who was seated next to FDR. He confessed to police: "I have the gun in my hand. I kill kings and presidents first and next all capitalists." Eventually the dumbass was executed, and his last words, in true "Johnny Dangerously" fashion, were: "Viva Italia! Goodbye to all poor peoples everywhere! Lousy capitalists! No picture! Capitalists! No one here to take my picture. All capitalists lousy bunch of crooks. Go ahead. Pusha da button!" (quote courtesy of Wiki)

illegal immigrants??
February 15, 2008 - 11:44 ET by needleAs for the Republican politicians, who having lived in their psychologically gated community so long that they no longer are aware of or care what those slobs in fly-over country want or need, it is harder for them to understand what the big deal is about illegal immigrants than it is for Dawkins to understand the Trinity.
As for the Democrats, who long ago defined away the existence of sin, they have subsequently lost the general understanding of “illegal”. Now for Democrats “illegal” describes anything that Republicans do (or even say) that they do not like, or more importantly that gets in the way of their assumption of power – which ipso facto is ever legal by their definition of “legal” itself. What does “legal” or “illegal” have to do with “immigrants” anyway? What the Democrats want is more judges who make a mockery of the constitution, law, and legality in the first place.

Arlen Specter
February 15, 2008 - 11:54 ET by ricklailYesterday Specter met with Goodell over the so called Spygate tapes. He was not satified with the commissioner's explaination.
I urge each of you to sent this clown an e-mail and tell him enough is enough. This country faces bigger issues than the Patriots taping their opponents. It is time to get back to what is important.
Here is a link to a form to send him a nasty e-mail. Please take just a bit of time and tell him to butt out of the NFL's business.

Why don't you butt out of the NFL's business. This country has a lot of problems and that is not one of them. You wonder why Congress's ratings are so low? This is one of the reasons.
Don't send me some e-mail stating that you will reply to me only if I am a PA resident. You are paid by the taxpayers of the US. You work for people in all 50 states.
I am just hoping that people will flood his e-mail. Is he going to listen? Probably not but I let my frustation be known. I have sent both Sen. Dole and Burr e-mails telling them how stupid it is to be investigating the NFL and MLB when we can't even secure our borders.
Here is a quick link to the each Senator's web page and e-mail forms.

Well, you know what, I AM a resident of PA. I will write him an email, and let you know down the road if I get the same kind of reply from him.
Update:
I went to his website, sent the email. The funny thing is there is a whole list to pick from for the subject of what one wants to express concern about. I had to pick "other" so this is what I wrote:
Dear Senator Specter
The NFL is NOT included in your list of concerns that we might wish to call your attention to. Which makes me wonder why it is even a problem for the US Senate to be considering.
Don't we have more important problems in this country (Many of them actually IN your list there) that the Senate should be spending its time on?

February 15, 2008 - 16:21 ET by IamTinmanSenator Specter is the perfect example of the quality (or rather lack of quality) of the current gop crop in congress. Democrat lite. Keep that in mind the next time you choose a congressional candidate.

February 16, 2008 - 15:56 ET by doug1950I suppose one could also think keeping Arlen busy doing this nonsense could keep him from being involved in anything remotely important. Kind of like giving children crayons on a rainy day to keep them quiet and busy. Unfortunately, Arlen, like the children will probably end up coloring op the walls. It would require some adult supervision. I knew we were in trouble when he got the top seat on the Judiciary Comm. He promised he would behave if he got the job and of course could not. When will the GOP ever learn not to trust these bonehead RINOs in their midst.

Today's Obamanation
February 15, 2008 - 13:18 ET by R D HelmWell, it looks as though creating "green collar" make-work jobs isn't enough for Barack Obama. Many people are unaware that he intends to reach into our wallets to the tune of $845 billion over 13 years to fight world poverty.
Of course, if history is any guide, most of this money will likely wind up fattening the Swiss bank accounts of third-world potentates. But hey, it's the good intentions that matter, not the outcome.
Scared yet?

Republicans have lost the election
February 15, 2008 - 14:01 ET by Lame CherryToday I received a snotty reply from the Liberty Council which is one of the gut roots "Conservative" groups which hammers on politicians to tow the line to the right.
I had floated to them the plan of placing Lynn Cheney on the ticket and received an egomaniac reply from some underling there. This person's rant was one issue on "same sex marriage" and then went on to extol "Mike Huckabee as a solid social conservative".
I corrected them in Mr. Huckabee was not that pro death penalty nor had he ever met a tax he did not try and implement.
In short, Huckabee can not win the south as the black vote there will all go Obama now.
In seeing this insane one voter issue that these rather narrow minded groups are anchoring themselves to, I do not believe the GOP will win as this is not Ann Coulter in trying to work a compromise in wanting Romney on the ticket........these are people whose intent is to completely gut and fragment the GOP.
I wonder now in what Rush Limbaugh has created in his maneuverings have reason behind them, but what I ran into this morning was pure reflection of the smart ass twirps over at Kos and HuffPo.
God help this nation as this strange group of Huckabee zealots IS AS KOOK as Ron Paul's anarchists who are still saying "Devvy Kidd quote":
Ron Paul can still win this at the Minnesota convention.
Which was proceeded by:
The elections are all stolen and New Hampshire needs recount.
That all makes perfect sense to these people.
As for the illegals..............hell's bells let all those SOB's in as they seem to be the only crooks making a living in America and know how to play this system.
Give em the vote and lets make America a 3rd world communist state that all these Huckites and Paultrons can just savor as they aren't interested in a Republic........they want a dictatorial anarchy.
The GOP does not work the Lynn Cheney compromise or find a way to bust the DNC voting block they have lost as these groups are dead weight dead minds not interested in winning, but interested in anarchy.
God bless the good as we will need His care.

If ANY association with ANY racist is automatically-bad&evil, how come I have yet to see any excoriation of Fox News by my moral superiors here? After all, Fox has for years hired Mark Furman, who lost the OJ-case for the prosecution by lying about his own racism, which was if anything more virulent than anything ever said in those newsletters. Sauce for the goose should be sauce for the gander, folks, and I've seen 0-mention of that contradiction here.
