That game was awesome! The

That game was awesome! The best play was Eli escaping the sack and throwing the ball his receiver caught with one hand on his helmet! I expected the Pats to win, like almost everybody else probably did, but was glad the Giants won. What a season for the Giants and their fans!

And for next year - GO, COWBOYS!

So sad for the Patriots and

So sad for the Patriots and all their fans...what a shame after an amazing season.

On the other hand.. the Giants won...that means nothing is impossible. Maybe McCain isn't a lock for the nomination, and maybe Her Royal Clintoness isn't inevitable.

this vikings fan is always happy to see moss lose:)

he will never be worthy of the SB ring...

why they still allow him in the NFL is beyond me...

and now Eli is vindicated - earned it the hard way - awesome

That's Karma For Ya! (I Ain't Sheddin' No Tears For The Pats!)

The Pats poor sportsmanship and arrogance has come back to bite them. Always remember, "What goes around, comes around." Instead of showing humility after the first go-round of Spygate, the Pats decided to rub everyone else's noses in "it." Then, when they could least afford it, the GEEEEEEEEEEEEE-men beat them in a clearly shocking fashion. So, no, I ain't sheddin' no tears for the Patriots.

Blackwater...I'm not certain, but I believe you may be mistaken about his not shaking hands. It appeared to me he congratulated Coughlin and then left the field before the final "second" of the game was played.

Jer

No, he did

He and Coughlin are friends from their days as Bill Parcells' assistants. Belichik ran onto the field and embraced Coughlin before the referee cleared the field and had the Giants run one more play.

Exactly!

Glad I wasn't the only one comparing Romney to the Giants. GO MITT!

Wow, what a great game. That was sheer will that kept Eli from being sacked when it was 4th down and 45 seconds or so left. What an amazing play! At that moment he earned MVP. And the whole team deserves that win! I am not even a Giants fan, but boy, I was last night!!!

Could Not Be Happier

for Archie and Olivia, and of course, Eli!
No one gave them a chance and they proved themselves - as a great American Team!

Sorry, BT, my friend...

...but as I said yesterday before the game, I like the Pats, but I don't live or die by their wins or losses....unlike all the Patriots haters out there.   Of course, if anyone wants to talk implacable, lifelong "hate", we could discuss the sleezy theft of the Baltimore Colts....    :^)

But I want to apologize to all the Patriots fans out there.   See, I forgot to wear my special good luck sweat shirt....and that makes the loss my fault.

Seriously, regardless of your team affiliation, that was one of the more enjoyable Super Bowls, and the Giants deserve their victory.

YIPEEEEEEEEEEE

I had a feeling this was coming and everyone thought I was nuts! It feels good to be right!

If you are any kind of

If you are any kind of football fan this was a great one.

I hate the Giants but that was some game.

Congrats.

Bad news for the Eagles

At first, I wanted the Giants to win, for purely selfish reasons. Coughlin's a screamer and disciplinarian, and once you win (in this age of free agency), that only works for so long. Plus, if they bring Shockey back, everyone else can tell him to stuff it, because they won without him.

But I watched that team tonight. Solid defense. Solid offensive line. Eli prospered under pressure. They have a few young players who came on strong. The things that used to destroy that team from the inside are no longer a problem. That's a solid team.

My Eagles are in trouble.

As my

When the Giants faced them in week 17 they clearly got Brady rattled. I was excited about the prospect of watching them play again.

gotta hand it to Giants

gotta hand it to Giants Defensive line

smile bot, it's not so bad

The Giants defensive line is truly what saved this game. They sacked Brady at several critical times and kept them away from even getting close to field goal range.

And they wanted it more. They fought their way out of tackles and stayed on their feet against all odds. The Giants simply had the hunger to win.

thanks Candance

the Giant Defense did it

Wow

What an amazing run - beating the Cowboys in Dallas, the Packers in Green Bay, and now beating the team so many were already annointing the greatest of all time. Kind of like the annointing of Hillary.

So many great plays and efforts and that last drive. Wow.

Blowouts

The "Inevitables" vs. the "Cinderellas."

What a great game. Usually Super Bowls are done after the 2nd quarter.

The Giants shut down Favre and Brady. Great job for the Giants.

Gat

Eli really played fantastic. When he broke out from that sack and took off running - what determination. And some of those huge passes on that last drive were Brady material.

Ice Water Eli - a good nickname for him. :-)

Eli played like just like

Eli played like just like Farve - never thought I'd say that about anyone but Farve...

What a ton of heart - never thought he had it in him...

and Archie must be the sports-father of century...

Great game

Very good game all around. Two really good teams fought it out fairly and with class. Good for the Giants for winning and good for the Patriots for making the Giants work for it.

No

Not the biggest upset but pretty darn close to it ---- Jets/Colts still the allltime stunner

“I would remind you

you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.”

Paul

Paul,

Yes, the Colts were 17 point favorites. However, they finished the year at 13-1, while the Jets were 11-3. As such, the Colts won 93 percent of their games, versus 79 percent for the Jets. That's a 14 percent difference.

By contrast, the Patriots this year had a 100 percent winning percentage, versus the Giant's 63 percent, a 37 percent difference.

Which is a bigger upset?

In the end, wasn't the 17 point spread back then a function of how little respect was given to the AFL? The Jets were a much better team than the bookies and the media gave them credit for mainly because the AFL was still considered a bastard stepchild.

Might that make this game a much bigger upset? ns

Well Noel

I wasn't even close to being born in 1968 or even 1978 so the shock of the Jets win is lost on me.

It's kind of interesting how the Patriots upset the Rams and then they themselves got upset at the height of their careers.

This was the most exciting game in my personal memory.

2004 was the most heartbreaking for me. :-(

I think Jets-Colts will

I think Jets-Colts will likely endure as the greatest football upset of all time. You're talking about a time when they were two distinctly separate leagues, and the prevailing wisdom was that the upstart AFL was vastly inferior, and their record was based on playing only teams that were considered "vastly inferior" (I think the Jets were 10-4, actually). This game was not only a stunning upset, but it set the course for what would eventually be a merged league.

Based on how the Patriots played against the Giants in week 17, it seemed that 12.5 point spread was high. Even though I thought the Pats would win, were I a gambling man, I would've put my cash on the Giants + points.

Jets-Colts are in the stratosphere of the 1980 U.S. hockey team of upsets. This game doesn't quite reach those heights.

HS - what you say is more true that most would admit

Jets-Colts is ancient history to a lot of folks. The Colts were the team to beat, being older, wiser, and more set in their ways (experienced), while the Jets were young and brash, and the panty-hose wearing Broadway Joe shot his mouth off (not cool to the oldsters) but he knew how to play the QB spot and proved himself and the young team. It was a classic case of "not knowing they were supposed to lose".

All in all, 42 was one of the BEST super bowls of recent history, good play, fair play, and for us in the blue state of NJ, a bitter sweet win by the NY Giants (who play in Joisey, but refuse to change their name due to the snobbiness of political correctness - yeah sour grapes)

FYI - Namath went on the record saying he liked the Giants

Kudos to the Giants

I'm a fan of neither team, but it was definitely a good game.

I wonder how many fairweather fans this will bring out of the woodwork.  I have a friend from NY who always said she hated football....until today.  Now she's a "lifelong" Giants fan.  Go figure.

Don't worry NC

Unless the Giants keep winning those fans will go back to being invisible.

I am not a Giants fan per se, more like a Panthers fan. It still stings to think of how the Patriots robbed them in 2004. Thus I rooted for ABP - anyone but Patriots.

JUST HAS BEEN SERVED!!!!!

Congratulations to the New York Giants for stopping the Patriots from irreparably damaging the history of the NFL!

Now Goodell needs to be shown the door for allowing a team that got caught, red-handed, cheating to win a game to participate in the post season.  The Patriot's record needs to be corrected to show that they didn't win the game vs. the Jets where they were caught cheating.

Finally, Belichik needs to be banned from coaching in the NFL for life for cheating.

The Giants have saved the NFL.

Ditto to all that, plus you fail to mention how Belichik showed such unsportsmanlike conduct at the end of the game by walking off the field befoe the last play was run.

Giants Fan ?

"I've always been a Giants fan."

Betcha that's a quote in a Hillary press release tomorrow. After her comment about having "always been a Yankees fan" I noticed that the MSM has never asked her how many games she's actually been to.

OK this was overboard, but was simply reaction to the cheating excuses I've heard.

Aside from that, for Pats fans, I would NOT want my team to have lost in the superbowl either, much less the perfect season. Geesh my heart was pounding during this one. I'd hate to have my team there in this situation. I'd probably would have busted an aorta or something...LOL

Several Thoughts...

I have a few comments on the game:

(1) No matter who you were rooting for (or against), it was one of the best Super Bowl games in years.  It was well played, and edge-of-your-seat suspenseful all the way through.

(2) Any team that tries to trademark "19-0 The Perfect Season" before winning that all-important 19th game richly deserves to lose.

(3) Tom Brady let his bloated reputation as God's gift to football go to his head.  After his conceited remarks at several press events this week, I was happy to see him get his just desserts.

(4) Any event that causes Boston/New England sports fans psychic pain is sure to put a smile on my face.

ratkin

Not only did they lose, the most delicious part is that they lost to a wildcard team that came in 10-6. The Giants beat two teams for the right to be offered up as the sacrificial lamb and they outplayed the best team in the country.

Super Bowl

I'm a die hard Patriots fan since 1969. But my hat's off to the Giants. Their defense was incredibly tough. It was a hell of a game. Heart pounding to the end.

Upsets:

1 Jets over Colts

2 Patriots over Rams

3 Giants over Patriots

Great sportsmanship Bymey.

Great sportsmanship Bymey. Heart pounding, no doubt, and neither team is mine. What a game!

Thanks

Thanks Greg. This is tough to swallow. I think I'm still in shock. Where was our offense? Is it real or is it Memorex?

byrney

Brady had a bad night against SD two weeks ago. I remember telling hubby if he played like that again they would lose.

One of the biggest differences tonight was Brady getting sacked five times. The Giants almost got two points for a safety.

The offense has given Brady

The offense has given Brady time all year. Giants were possessed, especially the D-line and the time to throw just wasn't there. He had a couple that he missed outright, such as Moss running the up and out near the left front corner of the endzone, but overall his setup time was taken from him. Commentator after the game mentioned Brady knocked off his feet 18 times, and that excluded the sacks. That simply never happened to him like that this year.

A win is a win, but you gotta admit that that Manning to Tyree play on their final scoring drive was one of the biggest whatever-you-wanna-call-it plays of all time. Luck, skill, happenstance, etc. Tyree pinning the ball to his helmet with the defender pulling at his upper arm, and still held on. Simply amazing. 9 times out of 10 that catch is never made, but without it, the game turns out differently. Plays like that become legends, such as Dwight Clark and "The Catch," 49ers vs Cowboys in 1981 NFC Championship. Not quite that big, only because that catch itself wasn't a scoring catch.

I'm glad it wasn't my team that it happened against (neither team is) else my heart may have pounded its way right out of my chest.

Good Game.

It was kind of fun....I never ever considered "Eli"....so good for him!

I just always enjoyed the fact that Peyton, never, ever beat the Gators....so Eli was just icing on the cake.

No horse in this race...but it was a really interesting game.

Too bad, so sad...the 'Olphins are still on top (and you all know I was hoping to have that record taken down tonite...alas).

Yeah Blonde, and the fact

Yeah Blonde, and the fact that Peyton never beat the Gators [as if he alone were responsible] is the rationale ESPN used to launch a Heisman campaign for a junior cornerback from Michigan, and consequently deprive Manning of an award he should have won in a landslide--even though Peyton had won more games than any other quarterback in the history of college football.

Can you tell that I'm still a little bitter about it?

What I say is...whatever

What I say is...whatever David Feherty [the CBS golf announcer] predicts in the future is what I'm putting my money on.

Near the end of the final round of the tournament in Arizona this afternoon, all of the commentators were asked to make their Super Bowl predictions.  After everyone else had, not surprisingly, picked the Patriots to win handily, Feherty noted that he had been to dinner with the Manning family a few days before, and then stated the Giants would win the game...17-14!

I loved the outcome and Plaxico looked mighty relieved and he should. The Pats left too much time on the clock and Eli has been using that well.

Now it's on to the Celtics-GO GREEN!

YYYEEEAAAHHH!!!!

Luckily the guy I graduated high school with (Chase Blackburn) didn't cost the Giants the game. He made a great tackle on the kick-off after the first Giants' touchdown, but he almost blew it.

Also, as a temporary transplant to the Boston area (from Ohio) it'll be nice to not have to hear how amazing the Patriots are and how historic their season was. The guys in the office actually said that nobody could beat the Patriots.

It'll be quiet in the office on Tuesday because half of them went to the Super Bowl (because my boss is the former owner of the Patriots (Pat Sullivan)).

Yahoo! News has just posted a scathing criticism of Bill Belichick for being unsportsmanlike.

Belichick = Mike Krzyzewski of football

While he was perfectly within his right to do so, it gave the Giants that extra little bit of fire in their belly. He made it personal.

Not a big fan of the NFL, but they put a good product out there today.

Tom Petty in the half time show

I gotta say, I was happy with this year's choice of halftime act. Tom Petty is a class act. No lip-syncing from this guy, no "wardrobe malfunctions", no attempt to push some kind of hair-brained political bullshit on everybody. He's also an American (McCartney was cool and all, but a Brit at the Superbowl???). He also performed good songs with an American theme. Made me proud.

I know he doesn't espouse conservative viewpoints, and that's OK. He's a gentleman for not pushing it in inappropriate circumstances.
