Kennedy to Endorse Obama Open Thread

The New York Times is reporting (paragraph breaks removed for space):

Senator Edward M. Kennedy intends to endorse the presidential candidacy of Senator Barack Obama during a rally on Monday in Washington, associates to both men confirmed, a decision that squarely pits one American political dynasty against another. The expected endorsement, coming after Mr. Obama’s commanding victory over Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton in the South Carolina Democratic primary on Saturday, may give Mr. Obama further momentum in his campaign for the nomination...Of all the endorsements in the Democratic Party, Mr. Kennedy’s is viewed as among the most influential. The Massachusetts senator had vowed to stay out of the presidential nominating fight, but as the contest expanded into a state-by-state fight — and given the tone of the race in the last week — associates said he was moved to announce his support for Mr. Obama.

With John Kerry's endorsement two weeks ago, Dems seem to be abandoning the Clintons en masse. Is this because of their race baiting?

Consider that a year ago, the Dems were flying high after taking back Congress, and were considered a shoo in to take back the White House in 2008. With the economy conceivably going into a recession, and most Americans, despite the surge's success, wanting out of Iraq, the Dems should be marching toward November with an almost insurmountable head of steam.

Yet, Pelosi and Reid showed themselves to be completely inept as chamber leaders in 2007, and now Billary seems to be dividing the Party nine months before the real celebration was destined to start.

As such, old-guard Dems like Kerry, Kennedy, and Leahy are clearly recognizing that their golden opportunity to wrest back control of Washington is slipping through their fingers, and Billary is partially to blame.

Now, in the end, Pelosi and Reid are just as culpable. However, for right now, with the emergence of Obama, the Clintons might be a perfect sacrificial lamb to point fingers at -- of course, with their bungling complicity making it more delicious for we conservatives to watch.

Any thoughts?

The Dem Divide

The Clinton mythical legacy is going down in flames - and with Democrats.

Billary is unilaterally creating a racial divide within their own party which will hand any GOP candidate victory (see Frank Rich's column today in the NY Times).

Bill already called Ted

Bill already called Ted and told him to 'butt out' and stay out of the race.

I just watched a focus group on Fox with Frank Luntz, it was on Geraldo's show...the subject was the Clintons and their recent tactics...with a dem focus group...it was so typical and hard to explain unless you watched it, but what twittering twits...that is how I feel, the people on the left that vote are just plain spooky, but then again I've always known that, it just plain is mind-bending to me.

These endorsements are very nice ego strokes for the candidates, and I'm sure Ted Kennedy thinks the country has been waiting with bated breath to see who he would endorse. And the candidates can compare "points" to see who has the most. But does anyone think that these endorsements, whether from other politicians or from newspapers, really have any effect on the voters in general?

MB

MB,

Teddy is loved by most liberals, especially older ones -- and they're the ones that vote. Furthermore, coming after Kerry's endorsement, and recent statements by angered Dems, this could be a trend.

Look at this way: folks like Leahy, Kennedy, Kerry, and others in the old Dem guard might welcome a young president they might have more influence with than the Clintons. With the way they've behaved recently, maybe this is just all aging Dems needed to push the Clintons aside for a fresh direction with much less baggage. ns

I see your point, Noel, and

I see your point, Noel, and I agree with what you've said about their motives. I just wonder how much influence they really have on the rank-and-file.

But you may be right: maybe a lot of older voters (and seniors do go out and vote in huge numbers) will vote for Obama because Ted Kennedy or Pat Leahy say so.

How's Ted Kennedy track record on endorsements for Pres!!

Let's all see: How's Ted Kennedy track record on endorsements for Pres!! And the "what have you done for anyone lately" really comes into play!

The New England members of the old Democratic party are lining up against Hillary/Bill, but we all know a nasty counter-punch is coming. The California Dem Primary should tell us a lot about how the Clintons are planning to energize Hispanics….. positive for Hillary or negative against Obama?

The failure of the CTA to endorse before the primary is a bad sign for Hillary.

The members bucked the recommendations of union leaders and voted to endorse Obama.

Now that's gonna leave a mark out there!

Score a big behind the scenes victory for Obama’s California campaign
today. Word is leaking out that CTA’s membership staged an outright
mutiny at Los Angeles’ Bonaventure Hotel and bucked its own Board’s
attempt to railroad through an early endorsement for Hillary. CTA’s
elites apparently got a big wake up call when their effort to crown
Hillary as the official choice of California’s teachers was upended by
overwhelming resistance from rank and file Obama supporters. The
vaunted pre Feb 5th CTA endorsement – which was widely expected to go
Clinton’s way – appears to now be postponed to April (when we will all

I meant it would be a miracle if the rank and file staged a mutiny and forced the leadership to endorse a Republican. ckc

ckc,

Have you been out of the country most of the year? ns

Hillary losing the nomination isn't a good thing.

Granted, I do want the primary fight to long, nasty, and divisive in the Dem party, but in the end, I want Hillary to win.

The Fall of the House of Clinton will lead to an Obama nomination, which will lead to the defeat of the Republicans across the board. With Hillary at the top of the ticket, the GOP will not only win the White House, but they will also win a big handful of congressional seats due to Clinton backlash. With Obama, none of that will happen. Clinton losing = GOP (and conservatism) losing. It's that simple.

Does anybody else see that? You had better be careful what you wish for. Quite frankly, so-called "Republicans" getting giddy over Hillary losing the nomination is extremely irrating to me.

"women and minorities hardest hit"

MC

MC,

Lots of time left to this game, and a lot of variables. As we've seen in the past twelve months -- with Dems going from Congressional takeover elation to their present disarray -- thinks happen very quickly nowadays. As such, it's impossible to forecast where we'll be as a nation in November.

If high-ranking Dems continue to flee the Clintons, this battle is going to get very ugly, with a large amount of carnage in the wake. If these folks continue to self-destruct, who knows what the landscape will look like by the fall. ns

The Big Set-Up

And Bill Clinton promises a "civilized" election if it's McCain and Hillary? Just look at the current "civilized" campaign the Clinton's are waging now. These guys have been planning the defeat of McCain for at least eight years, and they are now practically begging for a McCain candidacy. Rest assured, it will not be "civilized".

It will be vicious. Children across the country will be asking their parents what a "Keating 5" is. Kerry-like vets will take to the airwaves. McCain will be smeared in every possible way.

McCain, a "friend" of Hillary, will be in for the second biggest fight of his life.

Let's face it, Noel, this

Let's face it, Noel, this is all pretty much Bill's fault.

the Drudge headline this AM is "Will Hill Chill Bill?" (Guess he hired the NY Post headline writer!)

Can't you see Her Royal Clintoness slappi....uh, having heart-to-heart talks with him all over the room every night now, about how she has stood by him all these years, put up with humiliation after humiliation because she believed in their manifest...uh...mutual destiny, and saying how she will be so hurt and devastated if, after all that, she doesn't have her chance at pow...uh, service to the country?

I believe the Drudge headline (haven't even read the story)...it's all going to come down to "Chill Bill" (volume 2) and Hill is the only one who can do it. Will she? We'll see.

And can she? We'll also see. Then it goes back to the Freudian question of "Does Bill really want her to win?"

Hear, hear!

Hear, hear!

It is not race baiting when it is race mealing

Bait is subtle tactics when the Clintons started this before Iowa. It is a racial meal when one ties all blacks out on the African plain and rings the dinner bell for simba to come and eat.

Democrats understand fully the problems of destroying the black foundation of the part, but Tedward Kennedy understands a much deeper lesson of 2 assassinated brothers and one assassinated nephew that one does not trump the people who have been staging the coup on Hillary Clinton.

Certainly Tedward is trying to save his political base so Democrats do not got down to a landslide defeat, but who Teddy backs today to save his long term hide does not mean "he will not regret Barak Obama's personal criminal indictment by Patrick Fitzgerald and whole heartedly support his best friend, Al Gore, against that evil Mormon, Mitt Romney.

Ted knows all of this, just like he knows his butt was saved from homicide in drowning that girl and his baby. Like he knows he went into South Africa giving that speech on aparthied knowing he would be filleted like a fool so he would not be elected.

While the Kennedy clan has always been the poor Irish clods looking in, Ted knows the game very well and he survived it by keeping his mouth shut and being a pigeon in implementing every globalist communist law he could.

Right now it is Obama as the tool of the elitists to sink Hillary, because do not think for one moment that Teddy Kennedy has forgotten that Hillary got her hooks on his FBI files just like everyone else and used them to hammer him just like everyone else.

The difference right now is, Teddly can only be humiliated by his FBI files.........and Hillary will go to prison. So the big tuna has come out along with the others to sink Hillary for a variety of reasons.

I want to make something perfectly clear in this. The problem the patricians see in this is not Hillary, Bill, Obama, blacks etc... The problem is those racist white eastern patricians who will vote for Hillary if she announced she was a pedophile.
Those people are the problem for the entire cartel and Democratic Party.

I fully expect the Letterman clique to become the target of maniac Bill if Hillary by default wins too much in racist states. West of the Mississippi being black does not matter. It is those rust belt states which includes Republicans in Ohio dumping Ken Blackwell which hold the racism that floods into the northeast.

The Clintons will have to insult those white people if slapping blacks around does not work. New Hampshire though is not a good gauge as NH has about as many blacks as a Kennedy compound party........waiters serving drinks.

Most people are buying into

Most people are buying into the smoke and mirrors theater going on here

Pelosi may be a dunce but Reid knows more about the ins and outs of twisting the Senate Rules into a pretzel to get his way than probably anyone since the past master LBJ.

This do nothing congress is a planned event.

The object is since they only held paper thin majorities is only pass the minimum of bills that were mandatory to operate and then throw up over the top stuff and allow zero compromise to ensure their defeat.

The outlandish bills were simply pure political pander to the base saying 'see we tried our best to get it done for all the things you wanted'.

The rest of the plan was repeated over and over on both the House and Senate floor during debates by many dems during their speeches.

Blame the obstructionist Republicans

Claim they needed veto proof majorities in both houses to pass the legislation that was 'good for America'.

Scream for a Dem in the White House to stop the veto 'maddness'.

That very plan was spoken over and over by many dems.

Also if you review the last debate for the Dems during the second half sit down session, Obama voiced the opinion supporting the same issue of needing veto proof majorities in both houses.

Reid supports it, Obama supports it and Ted endorses Obama.

Simple neat package and the do nothing congress was the shiny toy to use as a vehicle to enable the whole plan.

Three Thoughts

 1. How avant-garde can Obama be if he is endorsed by Ted Kennedy and John Kerry? So much for change ...
 2. My, how quickly these Democrats turn on each other! Now the base is at each other's throats. The feminists are trying to get the Latinos and blacks to hate each other. Teddy abandoned Bill and Hillary. Kerry knifed Edwards in the back.
 3. And everybody hates the media!

LOL! Reminds me of that

Well, Her Royal Clintoness says she's been an agent for change for 35 years!! LOL!

This food fight reminds me of that old Kingston Trio song back in the 60's:

The whole world is festering with unhappy souls,

Italians hate Yugoslavs, South Africans hate the Dutch,

And I don't like anybody very much!!

Don't forget

Ted Kennedy has other ghosts in his Past

"—and served as an intermediary between the KGB and Ted Kennedy
between 1978 and 1980. KBG reports also mention Tunney carrying
messages between Kennedy and Moscow in 1983. As summarized by Herbert
Romerstein:

One of the documents, a KGB
report to bosses in the Soviet Communist Party Central Committee,
revealed that "In 1978, American Sen. Edward Kennedy requested the
assistance of the KGB to establish a relationship" between the Soviet
apparatus and a firm owned by former Sen. John Tunney (D.-Calif.). KGB
recommended that they be permitted to do this because Tunney's firm was
already connected with a KGB agent in France named David Karr. This
document was found by the knowledgeable Russian journalist Yevgenia
Albats and published in Moscow's Izvestia in June 1992.

Another KGB
report to their bosses revealed that on March 5, 1980, John Tunney met
with the KGB in Moscow on behalf of Sen. Kennedy. Tunney expressed
Kennedy's opinion that "nonsense about 'the Soviet military threat' and
Soviet ambitions for military expansion in the Persian Gulf. . .was
being fueled by [President Jimmy] Carter, [National Security Advisor
Zbigniew] Brzezinski, the Pentagon and the military industrial
complex.". . .

In May 1983, the KGB again reported to their
bosses on a discussion in Moscow with former Sen. John Tunney. Kennedy
had instructed Tunney, according to the KGB, to carry a message to Yuri
Andropov, the General Secretary of the Soviet Communist Party,
expressing Kennedy's concern about the anti-Soviet activities of
President Ronald Reagan."

Read the entire report and see who has aided the Soviets against America.

Passing of the Torch - The Kennedys' Endorsement of Barack Obama

Carolyn Kennedy and Senator Edward Kennedy have endorsed Obama, I think, because this family has always worked and stood for the Civil Rights of all people. However, in the last weeks of this Democratic Primary campaign season, the Kennedys and the world over, have seen the Clintons try to suppress Latino and African-American votes on the Nevada Strip, demean Martin Luther King in saying that it took a white man to get it done, when Martin Luther King paid the ultimate price with his life, race bait in South Carolina coloring Barack Obama as a black man instead of a man for all the people -- who just happens to be black and undignified behavior which should have no part in a Democratic candidate, in the Democratic Party and in society at large. Edward Kennedy, a world's statesmen, could not stand by and let Bill and Hillary Clinton tear apart the Democratic Party and the hard-fought gains the party has made in racial equality by behavior which seemed to divide and conquer for one's separative self.

And, for Carolyn Kennedy, who stated so eloquently in op-ed piece in the New York Times, sees in Barack, a man like her Father, able to inspire, unite and take us further forward towards peace and prosperity in the 21st Century.

It seems that this election, between Hillary and Barack, really is about the Past and the Future. It's about the decision: do we continue to stay in the Past and say its ok and then to reward divisive and negative behaviour, which only tears us down and causes a deep misstrust of one another -- or do we decide to choose to move away from such devisive behaviour -- choosing instead to move forward with the behaviour of goodwill and civility towards each other, which builds us up, and offers the promise of a more united and hopeful Future for All!

That wonderful guy, Teddie Kennedy

What a lovely homage for those wonderful Kennedys, and Teddie in particular. Too bad this "world's statesman" didn't have such grand appreciation for Mary Jo's "civil rights."

But his responsibility for creating misery and being a poster boy for dishonesty isn't limited to Mary Jo and her family:

"this family (the Kennedys) has always worked and stood for the Civil Rights of all people."

Of course, you must be referring to Ted Kennedy's decades-long efforts to grant amnesty to anyone who wishes to enter our country. Every amnesty bill since 1965, and there have been a number of them, has been pushed and shepherded by Sen. Kennedy.

More than any other politican, the current illegal immigraton mess can be laid at his door.

family has stood for WHAT?????

"Carolyn Kennedy and Senator Edward Kennedy have endorsed Obama, I
think, because this family has always worked and stood for the Civil
Rights of all people."

Millions of Cubans have suffered under Fidel Castro for over forty years because John F. Kennedy pulled the air cover for the Bay of Pigs invasion. Few Americans have been able to insure that the people of Cuba are slaves to Fidel Castro. John F Kennedy did what no other American had the authority to do at that time. He pulled the air cover. He did not work for nor stand for the Civil rights of all people.

Ted Kennedy stands for civil rights for all people. Mary Jo Kopechne would testify otherwise, if he hadn't drowned her.

Kennedy big endorsement

For me this is all just too delicious...too much fun to watch the Clintons being told to get lost by the elitist leftists...and all the rest of the lemmings attaching themselves now and joining the band-wagon...after-all the Clintons can be replaced now can't they...their power is getting mighty scant...

As to Kennedy and his big television coverage with his announcement in a matter of minutes I just hope he does his usual mumbling and stumbling with Obama's name...like he did quite awhile ago now when he said Osama Obama, tried to correct that and mumbled again...ah the thieving Kennedy clan something to to draw to and behold by the adoring msm and the critters that follow.

I love it!

Especially the slow burn that I envision the Clintoon pair having right about now...LMAO!

HAHAHAHAHA! ...Teddy...

Oh Bigtimer, It is better than delicious, Ted had to throw in Barry's work on "No Child Left Behind" the biggest education spending failure in 30 years, and the infamous "immigration reform" bill, that went down in flames. So if you are for failure and huge gov spending, barry is your man!

OMG, can it get any better???

On the clintoons slow, steely burn about the puffy lefty siding with barry, you just gotta love it.
