Shrillary's Big Gaffe
January 1, 2008 - 14:10 ET by NoMoreClintonsHeard about Shrillary's major gaffe regarding the Pakistan elections? Didn't think so . . . since the msm has been covering it up. Ben Smith has the scoop at Politico . . .

January 1, 2008 - 14:35 ET by Gary P JacksonHow can this be? I thought Senator Clinton was a genius, the smartest woman in the world. As the saying goes, it's better to be thought a fool, than open one's mouth and remove all doubt!
Clinton's big gaffe gets even bigger...
January 1, 2008 - 15:04 ET by HermanoHere is an even bigger gaffe - special thanks to Jack Bauer for finding this. Cross reference Wikipedia to find that Bhutto had THREE children, not the two that Hillary mentions in this link.

January 1, 2008 - 15:15 ET by Jack BauerHermano -- I heard another Clinton Pakistan gaffe that was highlighted on Fox.
She said something about Benazir Bhutto's father ALSO being assassinated.
He wasn't. He was executed for corruption and other crimes.
Holy Cow
January 1, 2008 - 18:20 ET by HermanoI had not heard that. I would guarrantee that 90% of the posters here knew that he was executed. I just do not know what her appeal is. She is by no means the smartest woman on Earth. I would put Condi leaps and bounds ahead of her just in common sense, let alone pure smarts.
She may have known, but
January 1, 2008 - 21:02 ET by motherbeltShe may have known, but figured saying he was assassinated would create more sympathy than the fact that he was executed for fraud. The Clintons are famous for twisting things, and hoping that no one will catch on, or bother to check up on what they said. This was kind of an obvious gaffe, though, so you have to wonder....

But in two confident television appearances, on CNN and ABC, Clinton made an elementary error about Pakistani politics: She described President Pervez Musharraf as a "candidate" who would be "on the ballot."
In fact, Musharraf was reelected to the presidency in October. The upcoming elections are for parliament, and while Musharraf's party will be facing off against opposition parties, the president himself is not a candidate.
The Politico article has
January 1, 2008 - 18:10 ET by motherbeltThe Politico article has these quotes from HRC:
"If President Musharraf wishes to stand for election, then he should
abide by the same rules that every other candidate will have to
follow," she told CNN's Wolf Blitzer (.pdf) Dec. 28.
"He could be the only person on the ballot. I don't think that's a real election," she told ABC's George Stephanopolous December 30.
Then Howard Wolfson jumps up and says she was talking about Musharaf's party, not Musharaf himself.
Nice try, Howie, but she specifically used HIS NAME and said HE both times.

January 1, 2008 - 17:09 ET by w0tm#1 Hillary implodes by late February and Algore jumps tall buildings with a single bound to save us all and then we are REALLY screwed!
#2 As has been planned since 1993, Perot all over again happens either with McCain/Lieberman or Ron Paul with a third party sucking away way more than enough Republican votes to give Hillary an easy win. The McCain third (or fourth) party has been planned for years with a promise to him of Secretary of Defense in the Clinton Debacle - err, Administration. Ron Paul came out of nowhere but it is just icing on the cake for Hillary. Three parties against one is too much luck even for the Bill/Hillary duo. God help us all - eight more years. The Mayan calendar ends December 21, 2012. Many worry about that. Don't! We'll all be gone well before then! 237 years - it was great while it lasted!
Watch out for Bloomberg
January 1, 2008 - 18:24 ET by HermanoThe wires are getting hot with rumors of Michael Bloomberg entering the race as a third party. I am not sure which party this would hurt most at this time, but it is not likely to be good if it happens.

I don't know which party
January 1, 2008 - 18:47 ET by motherbeltI don't know which party would be hurt more by a Bloomberg third-party run. He says
We're here not to represent parties. We're here to represent the people. The problem is that Bloomberg thinks HE is the one who knows what's best for "the people." He, like former MN Governor Jesse Ventura in the 90's, claims that separating from the two major parties makes him more able to craft a consesus. But like Ventura, Bloomberg is not so much interested in a consensus, as envisioning a situation with not having to compromise with either side: in other words, a benevolent dictatorship.
After what Bloomberg crafted in NYC, is there any doubt that he hopes
to take his "I'll tell you what's good for you" attitude national?

Democracy -- more than Mankind can handle long-term
January 12, 2008 - 17:06 ET by w0tmI can't believe I'm writing this but I do believe Western Civilization has surpassed the tipping point where Democracy as commonly defined is now dangerous. I don't think I'm overstating things writing that generations from now the recent "ten seconds of fake tears" changed history and began our slide into a thousand years of the next Dark Ages. Not enough of Mankind is capable of governing themselves. Most people are not "yearning to be free" as is inscribed at the foot of Statue of Liberty but, instead, "yearning to be obient sheep". Emotion beats truth and common sense almost every time it's tried. Sad but true.
There's nothing wrong with the world that an extra 20 points of average IQ wouldn't fix. But we're clearly headed the wrong way.
Mass idiocy is loudly knocking on our door and will soon dominate our world. Perhaps it's God's way to keep us in check. Throw us back to endemic lunacy every 2,000 years, or so, as history has recorded occurring from time immemorial Our current 2,000 year period is about up. Time for our civilization to crumble so that it might crumble again in 4,000 A.D.

Snow sets NH record
Associated Press - December 31, 2007 2:15 PM ET
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Today's snowstorm made this month the snowiest December in New Hampshire in more than a century.
The National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, said Concord, where New Hampshire records are kept, beat the previous record of 43 inches of snow in December by an inch and a half. That record was set in 1876.
Overall, the storm left 10.1 inches in Concord, and more in other parts of the state.

January 2, 2008 - 11:05 ET by UnsaneDO NOT FORGET that the Olympics take place in Beijing this year.
That being said, watch out for some of the most sappy, sugary reporting on this topic come August. Remember, nothing bad EVER happens on the Left.
Beijing has notoriously horrific smog. The smog there is so bad that it makes Denver or Los Angeles pleasant. The Communist authorities know this, so watch them shut down industries around Beijing in August. Then, watch the media in the United States GUSH about how clean, environmentally conscious, and green China is, and how we should endeavor to be like them.
China may be turning capitalistic over time, but it is STILL communist as we all know. The media in the United States will find all sorts of reasons and ways to gush endlessly about how wonderful China is as a result.
I said it here first.
