This exchange definitely goes in the "Anti-Ron-Paulites are more shrill and insulting than his actual supporters" category.
Look at the name calling you are doing. The fact that you admit that you use the quotes around his title as a pejorative proves my point. You do not gain any moral high ground with your posts.
You cannot find any post where I've called anybody a name or acted shrill while discussing Ron Paul. I've answered all of your questions, despite you ignoring my answers.

It doesn't. It's an honorific, a societal norm that is given in front of a person's name as a token of respect, acknowledging the title that the person has earned.
Furthermore, I challenge you to produce one single post on this entire website that has asserted that being an MD qualifies someone to be President of the United States. Failing that, you have simply postured and conjured up a silly straw man argument.
What qualifies Dr. Paul to be President has no real relevancy to his medical credentials, except maybe for his position on abortion, which I'm sure you would agree with.
The fact that you are making a mockery of this honorific simply because you don't support the candidate and not because you have any evidence to discredit his actual title, speaks volumes about you.
If you ask me Jimbo, Dr. Ron Paul would be a refreshing change from "President" Bush.
"He was, and is yet, most likely, the wearisomest, self-righteous
pharisee that ever ransacked a Bible to rake the promises to himself

I am enamored with no candidate on the GOP side as of yet. I believe I have until my state's primary to decide, right?
Hearing Jason complain that Ron Paul would be a "refreshing" change to Bush is silly. Jason would be content with the friggin Wiggles being a "refreshing" change to Bush. Ron Paul was just a convenient name to be used.
If I am going to fast for everybody, please let me know.
Gee Rog, for someone who considers himself the resident cut-up, you don't seem to have gotten that my post had nothing to do with Paul or Bush, it was simply a means of putting someone else's honorific title in quotations, to call Jimbo's attention to the juvenille rudeness of doing so to Dr. Paul.
"He was, and is yet, most likely, the wearisomest, self-righteous

If you would have used "Dr" instead of Dr, it might have conveyed your message better, since you used "President" in quotes. Don't blame me for your inadequate humor skills.
The whole point was to demonstrate selective use of honorifics, which is why I constructed it the way I did. your way wouldn't make sense. Think about it.
"He was, and is yet, most likely, the wearisomest, self-righteous

I wonder what it's like to not be excited about any of the Republican candidates. Seriously. I used to be wary of Paul until I examined his record and his reasons for opposing the war. Truth be told, I was a FredHead before this.
I always liked his domestic ideas, but, let's be honest, to be president, you have to be internationally-saavy. He reinforced his lack of international credibility when he stammered and fumbled over the word "Kurd". The people in the north of Iraq are called Kurds, Dr. Paul. Someone who has been in politics this long, having to vote on issues regarding the Iraq War should most definately have known that. It is becuase of things like that that makes him unqualified.
Is this your first election? You have always felt orgasmic over every candidate you've supported?
The point was that putting presumptive quotes around someone's title is obviouslt meant as an insult. Paul's legitimacy as a doctor is less questionable than Bush's as president (hate to pick at the 2000 election wound, but in a lot of people's eyes, it's still a point of contention).
I'm pretty confident that there will not be any Republican in the White House in January 2009, so I'm not bothering to worry too much.

I've seen him around here for a while, even had conversations with him. Same for you. That's why it's troubling to see you guys resort to name calling with Ron Paul. He's a Republican who deserves the same treatment as another Republican like Giuliani (who has negatives as strong as Paul in the eyes of true conservatives). I'm just trying to understand why the same people who rail against trolls and name-callers act the same way when it comes to RP.
I've never trashed Ron Paul - I like alot of his views - just feel as though they are too academic for our current reality - too radical - it would most likely take decades even in a best-case scenario to get where Ron wants to go in 4 to 8 years...
I am very impressed with his campaign success so far in spite of that...
I was referring to Jack Bauer and Roger, who called Sarc a Paul-bot. I shouldn't have lumped you in with them. I do however, respect your views as well as theirs. Maybe that was how it happened.
Regardless, thanks for answering respectfully and on the issues.
Just a question - your statement that even RP couldn't accomplish his goals in 4-8 years in this country - how much does it disturb you then, how far gone we are, considering that none of the other candidates even remotely approach his goals?
the Federal Government disturbs me greatly I know that - about 2/3's of it we probably don't even need, and policing most of the globe ourselves is getting to be very annoying - especially with all the international ingrates bitching about it - and expensive...
Reagan did very well on similar matters - and Ron Paul was a close Reagan associate - but Reagan ingeniously knew how to make radical change palatable to the masses
Romney impresses me with the best balance over all - not great - but the best of the lot - and he's a proven fixer
Ron Paul seems pretty much right on track technically speaking - he's almost like Jesus in that respect - another guy I admire
Sarc is not a Paulbot?
My mistake.
I only assumed someone who spams a message board day after day with the same Ron Paul links, boastings, ad accomplishments, and is always the first to jump at the first disparaging word against Paul, as well as attends rallies and debates, might be considered a Paulbot.
Perhaps I should refer to Sarc as a zealot in the future? Zealot: A fanatically committed person.
I guess I'd rather be a zealot than be despairing of having no good candidates from which to choose. You can thank McCain-Feingold for that, by the way. John McCain virtually guaranteed that nobody who wasn't already wealthy would ever win the Presidency.
Zealotry is an unhealthy trait. It tends to bring out the worst in people. Look at previous Newsbuster contributors, for example. We've had rabid bible-thumpers, anti-Christians, socialists/marxists, racists, religious nutjobs, etc. All have a screw or two loose. That is definitely a negative trait.
That being said, I am glad some people have found a candidate they consider speaks for them. Unfortunately, that means you are now in the same bucket as some people who have a few screws loose.
As for McCain, who ever said he was a viable candidate? I mean, he is 71, and would be president at age 76. That's way too old. Do you want a 76-or-77-year-old man in charge of the country? Ask yourself that the next you are behind one on the road.
Oh, and you better watch your sig, because one of the latest zealots to join Newsbusters will call you a violent hatemonger and want to ban you.
hey rog, don't leave out the "almost-perfect" zealots like you (somewhere in the perfectly enlightened middle of it all) who don't suffer from all of the above "screw-loose" beliefs that somehow you and your friends seem exclusively able to deem undesirable:)!
I saw that too! I watched the whole debate last night, and never noticed Paul doing anything. Then I watched part of the O'Reilly replay, and when I was changing channels I saw that the debate was being replayed, and I left it on. It was at the part where McCain and Paul were having their little Vietnam Redux spat, and the camera angle changed to a view from the left side of Paul's podium. I don't know how in the heck I didn't notice it on the first viewing, but Paul was clearly signaling someone in the audience using hand gestures. His eyes were definately focused on someone out there, and he was pointing and moving his hand around, right before he made his "crushing" point about how the fact that we never lost a battle was a meaningless one.
That's right Bru. The instance you describe was the most egregous out of the bunch, but there are examples too. It was either gestures with his hands or with the shaking of his head. And yes, he did seemed to be focused on select portions of the crowd when doing it. The cameras werent focused on him, as you already mentioned, so it was kinda hit or miss as to wherter or not you could catch him doing it. I also noticed that there was a definite change in tone of the audience immediately after he did it too.
The guy and his followers are VERY creepy in my opinion and the word cult is the only word that comes to mind.

And I did ask it again.
Your "artful dodge" here is Clintonesque, sort of like the definition of the word "is."
"Go piss up a rope?"
Perfect. You have categorized yourself. Very mature. Thank you for proving my point about the Anti-Ron-Paulites.
First, If you actually read the threads, you would know that my quotes, as I have stated several times, are there to get Sarc to respond convulsively. But I guess that fact doesn't interest anotehr "Dr" supporter like yourself.
Secondly, your question was about who I intend to vote for. My answer was that I am undecided. If you consider that an incomplete answer, then keep pissing up that rope I gave you.

Sarc, there's iron-clad proof that Jimbo is on to Paul's cult leader status. According to last night's post, not only did Jimbo see Paul giving cryptic signals to the crowd, HIS WIFE SAW IT TOO!!! Wow, I'm sold on this one.

It's no different than Peyton Manning waving his arms to quiet the crowd so he can call his signals. Did Peyton himself plant those fans in the stands that are cheering so loudly? No. But is he aware that they are there? Yes. And is he appealing to them? Yes.

Fine, I will, but you're the one who brought her up on the board last night as evidence of your Paul-centric conspiracy theory. And my post had nothing to do with your wife per se, it had to do with you thinking that her agreement with you on a political topic means something.
But again, I will not bring it up again.
"He was, and is yet, most likely, the wearisomest, self-righteous

Jeez. That's a very childish response, especially since YOU are the one who brought up your wife in the first place. It's very knee-jerk since nobody here even knows her.
Wow.
So - how is Jason supposed to keep her out of it when you keep inserting her into it?
"He was, and is yet, most likely, the wearisomest, self-righteous

You brought her up, tough guy. No one was derogatory to your wife. If you agreed that Paul was doing something shady onstage, that's super, but you posted it to this forum as proof that your paranoia is valid; how could you expect not to be called out on that?
"He was, and is yet, most likely, the wearisomest, self-righteous

Ok so even if Ron wasn't signalling the Paulbots then maybe he's got some kind of nervous twitch. Mabe even bordering on tourettes. We haven't had a president like that since Nixon, and we all know what happend to him!
"There are two types of people in this country; those who provide freedom and those who enjoy it."MM says...
America clearly should have elected him when I first voted for Dr. Paul, in '88! ;) Good thing the League of Women voters no-longer controlled the "debate" or we'd have been in danger of hearing an actual fiscal conservative, and we can't have THAT!!!
Seriously, it's funny how many of you seem to think he has any control over this phenomenon, but it goes with the news media's bias of automatically-assuming centralized control in any situation they don't fully-understand. In many ways, reading certain pundits these days is a bit like seeing a wealthy but mildly-retarded version of Bill Gates. He's enraged at the existence (and slowly-increasing ease of use) of the Linux operating system, so he "knows" it's a conspiracy against Windows Vista. ;) JMHO. Back later.

3. You keep responding and mentioning her again, without ever even acknowledging the nature of why she's involved in this thread now. You have no one to blame but yourself.
"He was, and is yet, most likely, the wearisomest, self-righteous
pharisee that ever ransacked a Bible to rake the promises to himself

Hey, let's leave the wives out of it. Now, MY wife, on the other hand, was watching an episode of "Heroes" the other day and swore that Hiro was trying to blink a message to her, to my wife.
I've tried very hard to warm up to Paul, but the guy just doesn't show me that he gets it. For example, I agree 100% with his statements about how the Islamic radicals are attacking us because of our Saudi air base and the fact that we're meddling in their affairs. I also agree 100% that we would react the same way if someone tried to come here and impose their way of life on us. But having said that, I would also agree that our determination to interfere with the Soviet Union's spread of Communism made the Soviets hate us. What's in our best interest is bound to not be in someone else's, and they're going to get mad at us. So what's the point? Are we better off just pulling back to our borders, letting other countries tear each other apart, and trust in God that in the end it'll all work out for the best? Paul seems to think so, and he could be right... and he could be wrong, and being wrong would have horrendous consequences for us.
Also, I used to agree with the concept that we should bring our troops back home and shut down a lot of bases in Europe and Japan. The Soviet Union was gone, so who do we need to protect western Europe and Japan from? But I forgot that we're always just one power-mad nutcase away from it all coming back again. So what do we do if we close the bases, turn them over to the host countries to turn into parks, homes, and farms, and then need to come back ready to fight? If we pull our troops back to CONUS and a problem flares up, the fight'll be over before we can get a decent fighting force up and running. Also, what do we do with an extra couple hundred thousand troops back in CONUS? Bases were built on the assumption that some troops would always be on deployment. If they're all in CONUS, there's no way we could ever support them.
Ok, Bruzilla, time to wake up and smell the coffee.
1. If you think that radical Islam will instantaneously love us and stop killing us the moment we pull out of the Middle East, you need to stop drinking the Kool-Aid and look at this bridge in Manhattan I have for sale.
2. What are we protecting Japan from? Ummmm......North Korea, maybe? Google it.
3. The whole world is mad at us, and they have been since 1775. Get over it. First they were mad at us being upstarts, now they hate us for being so good at upstarting. Just get over the fact that not everyone is going to like us. It's not a popularity contest.

The fact that you are making a mockery of this honorific simply because you don't support the candidate and not because you have any evidence to discredit his actual title, speaks volumes about you.

November 29, 2007 - 22:48 ET by Roger the ShrubberI always liked his domestic ideas, but, let's be honest, to be president, you have to be internationally-saavy.

November 29, 2007 - 13:47 ET by JasonCThe point was that putting presumptive quotes around someone's title is obviouslt meant as an insult.

November 29, 2007 - 15:29 ET by TruthMongerI've never trashed Ron Paul - I like alot of his views - just feel as though they are too academic for our current reality - too radical - it would most likely take decades even in a best-case scenario to get where Ron wants to go in 4 to 8 years...
I am very impressed with his campaign success so far in spite of that...

Zealotry is an unhealthy
November 29, 2007 - 22:39 ET by Roger the ShrubberZealotry is an unhealthy trait.

November 29, 2007 - 11:03 ET by JimboThat's right Bru. The instance you describe was the most egregous out of the bunch, but there are examples too. It was either gestures with his hands or with the shaking of his head. And yes, he did seemed to be focused on select portions of the crowd when doing it. I've tried very hard to warm
November 29, 2007 - 12:13 ET by BruzillaI've tried very hard to warm up to Paul, but the guy just doesn't show me that he gets it.
Wow. Where to start?

"good at upstarting"
That's a great line.

The MARINES don't have that problem."
