Wow Razorbacks! Was that an exciting game or what?
And how 'bout those Aggies?
The Huskers have apparently said goodbye to Callahan. Natalie wants you back in Danville anyway, Jackie!
On to Saturday, this could be a fun day beginning with V-Tech at Virgina in less that two hours. Sweet!
Can Kentucky beat Tennessee? I think so.
Connecticut at WV could also be interesting.
Finally, this evening's matchup between Missouri and Kansas could be delicious.
The best news: my wife and daughter are spending the entire day at the salon; I got the poolwork done yesterday as well as my workout, so; I'm READY for some late season with much meaning college football. How 'bout you?

All I can say is GO
November 24, 2007 - 11:45 ET by saw the lightAll I can say is GO MU!
Whoda thunk at the beginning of the season that this game would mean so much? It's amazing how many fans there are now. They really come out of the woodwork to join the bandwagon.
All I can say is, "Welcome. Hop on, sit down and buckle up. It's bound to be a wild ride!"
Hawaii Did It!
November 24, 2007 - 11:52 ET by Del DolemonteFor the 3rd week in a row, the Rainbow Warriors won a game they weren't supposed to win, as Heisman candidate QB Colt Brennan threw for 5 TDs, thus setting a new NCAA record for career QB touchdowns. Hawaii improves to 11-0 and gained some respect.
Undefeated
November 24, 2007 - 13:03 ET by Dr_LibertyIf both Hawaii and KU go undefeated for the year, they should play in the national championship game. Period. Last year, the Boise State Broncs were the real national champions!

... and personally
November 24, 2007 - 13:07 ET by Dr_LibertyI would rather go back to the old bowl system rather than this national BCS championship mess they have now. The new system creates an incentive to cheer for both Pac-10 and Big-10/11 losses so that the top team in conference are not good enough to go to the "championship" game, but still good enough to play in the Rose Bowl. That is just not right.
I'm perfectly content with not having a "definitive" national champion and arguing about it all year with my buddies. That gives us something to do after the Final Four and before August baseball.
(And yes, I know that many decades ago, the Rose Bowl did include non-Pac and non-Big 10 teams.)

Unfortunately, Hawaii does
November 24, 2007 - 13:37 ET by JerryUnfortunately, Hawaii does not have a shot unless the other contenders have 2 or more losses, and Ohio State has already completed their regular season at 11-1 (against a pathetic schedule).
Hawaii's best bet is for WVU to lose to UConn and Kansas to lose to Mizu who then loses to Oklahoma. In order to avoid Hawaii, the BCS would have to elevate a 2 loss team into the championship game, or a 1 loss KU team that didn't play in their conference championship game.
I would love to see it happen, because it would put the BCS into a quandary and bring us a step closer to a playoff system.

Blonde will be happy that I am pulling for the Gators. I want them to send Bobby Bowden into retirement.
As for Clem's son and that other team from South Carolina-WHO CARES. It is shame that one of them has to win. If your ex-wife and her lawyer jump off a building at the same time who hits the ground first? WHO CARES.
I guess I'll be pulling for Kansas. This is based on them being the better basketball school.

Now as for this Thursday night's game between the Cowboys and Packers if you can get it on radio listen to that. This past week, Bryant Gummball was doing the play by play for the NFL network. Boy was he sorry. If it wasn't for Collinsworth doing the color it would have stunk up the whole TV.

November 24, 2007 - 14:07 ET by Noel SheppardDr,
I know you're being facetious and understand that posts by "NB Staff" don't mean that we all got together and collaborated. I do most of the open threads, and all of the Saturday sports ones. I thought most people knew that by now.
As for my wife and daughter, they are heading to the salon, not the spa, although centuries ago, there may not have been much of a difference. :-)
Finally, you must not have a pool, for it would take days and an amazing expense to heat so much water this time of year to the 102 degrees normally found in a hot tub. As cold as the water is now in my pool (about 55 degrees), it could take two-plus hours for me to heat just my spa.
Of course, that raises an entirely different question I will answer if asked. :-) ns
Cornhusker Patrician
November 24, 2007 - 13:07 ET by Lame CherryThis is teasing, but man I wonder how many Nebraska folks go to the salon, do the pool and workout. Is nice to see that patricians come from all areas of the United States in America being a land of affluence where all can rise above corn husking.
As for me I was feeding my pet chickens corn I husked this year........I learned that 800 ears of corn on average fill a 55 gallon barrel. It is wonderful being a squire and listening to pheasants cackle as you pick corn and your setter looks at you like, "Why are we picking corn when there are birds to chase".
College football has lost a great interest for me now until the small colleges start the playoffs.........while it is interesting to watch North Dakota starting to do well in playing with the big schools..........my only interest now is watching Ohio State loose.
I still would like those communists at the college ranks to approve a national playoff system like the NFL so a real champion could be crowned..........what a thrill it was last year watching Idaho doing what it did.........as much as watching LSU get waxed by a "lesser team".
Hopefully the Cornhuskers will find a coach as I miss their massive power running offenses adding depth to the NFL.

November 24, 2007 - 13:16 ET by Dr_LibertyMaybe there is a little bit too much spa-going in Nebraska lately, which explains their rapid decline. I mean, how tough is a 300 pound offensive guard who has a nice manicure and baby soft skin? Ain't no longhorn gonna be 'fraid of that!

November 24, 2007 - 15:17 ET by mulerider24Dr. Liberty, I would make one correction. It isn't the 300 lb. linemen with the baby soft skin. Nebraska imported a 200 lb. coach with flawless cuticles from the state of California that tried to convert our corn-fed sasquatches into ninnies. Operation "Metro Purge" is now underway.

November 24, 2007 - 14:13 ET by Noel SheppardLC,
Well, this patrician lives in Northern California where folks spend a lot of time at salons, spas, and health clubs -- thank god!
As for Nebraska, I was actually quite surprised to see the fitness level of people there when I dropped my son off as a freshman. I learned a lot about chauvinistic stereotypes and generalizations on that trip.
One last thing about spas in Nebraska: as my son is an athlete, he spends a lot of time in the athletes' co-ed hot tub after workouts. The women's volleyball team -- National Champs! -- normally finishes their workout at around the same time as the track team.

Road to the Sugar
November 24, 2007 - 15:32 ET by general companyEveryone seems to think Ga can beat LSU? All I can say is after yesterday, the pressure is off of LSU. Ga may like to be in the SEC championship game, but I think they finish higher in the pols at the end of the year (like LSU last year) if they dont go. Anyone who watched the game yesterday, knows LSU lost that game in the first half. LSU offence did not take advantage of the good field position that their defence gave them, and by the 4th both defenses were beat. I think the world of Miles, but he called way too many passes (22) in the first half. I can understand why, Flynn was very good in the 2nd half, If we run the ball 12 more times in the first, I think we win. LSU had about a doz opportunities to turn the game around, but the Razorbacks were up to the task.
I had been worried about Ark ever since last year, we won a hard fought game last year, and in the SEC it very hard to beat teams consecetive years. LSU next year, Auburn, Fla (if Tebow stays) and maybe Alabama. Sorry if I sound like a whinner, but rooting for LSU this year has been excruciatingly unbearable. Let's see what the rest of the season brings us, been the best ever (other then ND) I can remember. The NFL is a pitiful shell of the collage game this year.

Texas at Texas A&M
November 24, 2007 - 15:45 ET by Lord ElicaniThis game was a lot more one-sided that the score shows. A&M dominated time of possession, yardage (By just about a 2:1 ratio), first downs and just about everything else. Stephen McGee looked like a pro and Colt McCoy looked like a dud (1 INT, 2 fumbles). 13 of UT's 30 points came in the final 10 minutes or so, and 7 more came off of a 91 yard kick return.
Now, I'm not a diehard Longhorn or Aggie fan (I just have plenty of friends at both schools, and lean somewhat slightly towards A&M), so I mainly watch and cheer for a good game. While the outcome was pleasing and the score reflected a close game, it was as much a blowout as those 50-20 UT victories a few years back. Give me last year's 12-7 A&M victory, minus the violent late hit on Colt McCoy with 7 seconds left, any day.

A Hawaiian Connection
November 24, 2007 - 18:53 ET by Del DolemonteOK, I got the real story about this-it was the Colorado linebacker coach, Brian Cabral, who as it turns out lived in the same Hawaiian town I grew up in (and is the same age!), paying tribute to his senior linebacker Jordon Dizon, who finished his CU career 3rd all-time in tackles. Dizon is from the island of Kauai.
Cabral wore a Polynesian lava lava, which is similar to a kilt, and also a lei that Dizon's Mom gave him. He had been a linebacker on the CU 1976 Big 8 title team, and later won a Super Bowl ring with the 1986 Chicago Bears. He wore the lava lava on the sidelines only once previously, when CU played in the Aloha Bowl.

It's great to kick FSU....best feeling in the world, actually. Makes me look forward to Monday.
Tebow deserves the Heisman about 19 ways from Sunday....most ever of everything, scoring wise for a quarterback, not to mention he's changed the game in his first year starting....but if he gets hosed, oh well. I don't think he really cares.

Hey Blonde
November 25, 2007 - 09:02 ET by ricklailAgain last night all these clowns from Arkansas were calling into SNR about McFadden. I image that Tebow has scored more TD's than a lot teams all season. What Heisman voter could deny him their vote after last night's performance. Is the Gator nation saying "Chris who?" after Tebow's season?
Here's another stike against McFadden. He is no where near leading the nation in rushing. That honor is held by Matt Forte of Tulane with over 2100 yards. His per game average is about 182 yards this season. Why don't these idiots on the sports talk shows talk about him for the Heisman. He is the best running back in the nation. I don't think that he has fumblitis like McFadden.
I still don't think that the Vols can beat LSU.
I don't understand how Tommy Bowden, Houston Nutt and Phat Phil are rumored to be fired and Bobby is not. It is not that they don't have winning records. It is that their programs are stagnant and not making any progress.
