Johnny "Beefcake" Edwards
November 19, 2007 - 11:05 ET by ricklailYesterday on Face the Nation, Edwards was asked about the difference between the trial lawyers that have given him money and the lobyists that he rails about. He gave a BS answer. You can read the transcript here.
My question: What is the difference between Johnny Edwards and a carp?
A: One is a bottom feeder and the other is a fish.

Truckloads of soil just to be green
November 19, 2007 - 12:53 ET by ThisnThatLet's see -- diesel trucks were driven somewhere to load soil, dug up by diesel tractors (which were also driven there by other diesel trucks); then the trucks were driven to Clinton's library where a bunch of other workers (who drove there in their gasoline-powered cars) so that they can all use gas-driven mechanical devices to hoist this dirt onto a roof ------ all so they can be "green"?
I reckon no one ever includes the life-cycle cost of going green anymore, do they? What a waste of energy, IMO, all part of a publicity stunt.

November 19, 2007 - 12:06 ET by JayTeeThe Shrub report on "The new Sheriff" in town, with Detroit replacing St. Louis as USA's most dangerous place, Does this move Bagdad to # 3 ?
The "protests" by the Detroit people on their Cities ranking, one wonders if you could substitute "Bagdad" in the complaints of injustice of being named so dangerous a city, and have an excellant counter to the Iraq War in Bagdad being called a dangerous place ?
Did anyone see Fox last week, few days ago, where the years '81 and '82 peacetime saw MORE Military Deaths in Peacetime than 2005-2006 in War Time ? 4800 + vs. the Iraq Wartime 3800+ ?
Iraq is safe, compared to Detroit, starting shortly........at least in Iraq you can carry a gun to defend yourself.

November 19, 2007 - 12:57 ET by ThisnThatYeah, JT -- I'd like to see how Baghdad and Falluja stack up now against our list. I'd also like to see how many reporters refuse to walk through some of the sections of our cities like Detroit, and how that compares to their complaints about getting around in Baghdad.
Do any of our esteemed Foreign Service people live in any of these dangerous cities? Probably not -- that would be a death sentence, worse than being assigned to Iraq.

November 19, 2007 - 14:12 ET by Dan The Man 2Philly residents have nothing to fear because police have the right to ask parents if the y can search the premises and they have the right to refuse. The police have the right to do so now and the parents also have the rights now. Nothing is changed except policy, and the policy is preemptive or preventative police work.
I find this interesting “If officers find a gun, police said, they will not charge the teenager with unlawful gun possession, unless the firearm is linked to a shooting or homicide.” because most of those will probably be involved in shooting.

November 19, 2007 - 12:14 ET by Prester JohnNancy Pelosi tries to force the Salvation Army to hire people who can't speak English.
It's been less than a week since New York's Sen. Hillary Clinton and Gov. Eliot Spitzer had to climb down from their support of driver's licenses for illegal aliens. Now House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has moved to kill an amendment that would protect employers from federal lawsuits for requiring their workers to speak English. Among the employers targeted by such lawsuits: the Salvation Army.
And why does she want to kill it? Because the Dem Hispanic caucus sees it as racist.
"If it is not relevant, it is discriminatory, it is gratuitous, it is a subterfuge to discriminate against people based on national origin," says Rep. Charles Gonzalez of Texas, one of several Hispanic Democrats in the House who threatened to block Ms. Pelosi's attempts to curtail the Alternative Minimum Tax unless she killed the Alexander amendment.

November 19, 2007 - 19:57 ET by RESTLESS 1I have a few reservations about that group. I don't think they are seeing the whole picture.
First, I hate the idea of innocent people, citezens or not, being held as prisoners, but it doesn't seem to me that Habeus Corpus extends to non citizens. Maybe that is something that this group would like to see changed, but I dont like the idea of extending constitutional privileges to non citezens.
"Prohibit the National Security Agency from intercepting phone conversations or
emails or breaking and entering homes on the President’s say-so in violation of
federal law;" Can anyone show where this has happened to innocent civilians, or am I missing something? As far as I know, wiretapping is being used on foreign transmissions to and from known terrorists organizations or individuals. I haven't heard of a case of domestic spying on Americans, but I may have missed it.
"Prohibit the President from kidnapping, detaining, and torturing persons abroad
in collaboration with foreign governments;" Again, I have not heard of this being done to American citizens.
"Amend the Espionage Act to permit journalists to report on classified national
security matters without fear of prosecution;" I really don't like this one. If something classified is reported to the public, not only should the one reporting be subject to prosecution, so should the source of the information. This goes to national security in a big way.
"Prohibit the listing of individuals or organizations with a presence in the
United States as global terrorists or global terrorist organizations based on
secret evidence." Secret evidence or not, if people or organizations are in cahoots with terrorists, their asses should be on a watch list and made public so that we can keep an eye on them. CAIR comes immediately to mind.

HO! HO! HO!
November 19, 2007 - 13:21 ET by pocomocoWe are now seeing a case where a ‘manufactured’ word has become politically incorrect.
Several years ago on Saturday Nite Live, Eddie Murphy, in an urban comedy skit, coined the word “ho” as a contraction for the word whore in describing his black ‘sisters’.
It was recently announced by ‘those who live to be offended’ that the word “ho” should no longer be uttered especially by Santa Clauses - HO! HO! HO! because it now offends them.
So, the dictionary of offensive words continues to grow as the ‘black word police’ lecture non-blacks not to use the words they themselves use everyday, or risk losing their livelihood as cowardly businesses kowtow to their demands.
I believe the time has come to say “enough is enough” and “get over it” because it has now reached the point of pure stupidity and absurdity.

November 19, 2007 - 19:29 ET by JasonCLet's run down the stereotypical values of commercial rap culture, particularly the "gangsta" sub-genre:
1. Staunch and unambiguous heterosexuality.
2. Swift and vicious retaliation against those perceived as enemies.
3. Rigid enforcement of gender roles.
4. Wealth and material gain privileged over all other concerns (aka "It's all about the Benjamins").
5. Race-specific means of self-identification.
6. Shoutouts to Jesus, even whilst poppin' caps.
7. Heavy emphasis on phallic signifiers, ie. firearms.

November 20, 2007 - 12:49 ET by Dan The Man 2You obviously did not get my reference to your idea of what values are and how they are implemented. Jesus and Satan are polar opposites as are rap and conservatism. You are basically saying a rapper is human and you are human so you must be the same. Some things may look like they are common but they are worlds apart.
Rap by its very nature is liberal meaning change is wanted by any means, whereas conservative is resistant to change for changes sake.
The problem is that you try to ascribe certain attributes that you see in rap and call the values to conservates. This in my estimation is a weak attempt to redefine what a value is. For instance a belief in God as the surpreme being and ruler of all is conservative value as are the morals in the Bible.
Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.
What "change" is demanded
November 20, 2007 - 12:56 ET by JasonCWhat "change" is demanded by rappers? As far as I can tell, rap is all about the maintenance of a status quo. Please keep in mind that I emphasized the "gangster" subgenre. The more politically-oriented underground rappers may indeed have more in common with the left, such as Sage Francis' "Makeshift Patriot" or Cold Duck Complex's "Wake Up."
The bling and booty scene, however, embraces the list of values I've provided to a T, so far as I can tell.

November 19, 2007 - 20:31 ET by JasonCThe very fact that you feel the need to put music in quotes makes it obvious you know nothing about the genre. Rappers tend not to play the Jesse Jackson victimization game. They tend to promote self-empowerment.
You're right about promiscuity and theft, but on a broader level, we have the correlation of emphasis on militant heterosexuality and personal wealth.
"He was, and is yet, most likely, the wearisomest, self-righteous

You can do self empowerment
November 19, 2007 - 20:38 ET by sunandsteelYou can do self empowerment and victimhood at the same time. A lot of rap I have heard always puts the blame for their situation on someone else.
Promiscuity and lack of parental responsibility is not the same thing as "militant" heterosexuality in my opinion. And personal wealth gained through robbing someone else is not a conservative ideal. Most true conservatives would want everyone to make as much as they can, but the law of averages says that some will make more, some will make less.
