With few exceptions, this looks like another very unexciting College Football weekend with limited interesting matchups much as last week.
Such is certainly not the case when OSU heads to Ann Arbor for those teams' Big Game. I am NOT a Wolverines fan for a variety of reasons. However, after their atrocious start, wouldn't it be amazing for them to win this game? As such, I'm pulling for Blue here just to finish one of their craziest seasons on record.
Heading waaaaay south, I just can't see Kentucky beating the Dawgs at home. Does anybody think they have a chance?
Yet, I can see Cincy beating West Virginia today. Anybody?
Finally, despite their rankings, can anybody without an axe to grind really get excited about tonight's other prime time matchup of BC against Clemson?

November 17, 2007 - 11:55 ET by ricklailThis is sort of a ho hum weekend in college football. I don’t really see much personally to get excited about. Next weekend is going to be the best with all the rivalry games. I could care less about Ohio State and Mecheegan. Nobody really cares except their fans.
The Dawgs still have a chance at the SEC championship game with a win over KY and a TN loss against Vandy or KY. As Blonde reminded me last week, if Kentucky wins out over GA and TN then the Gators would make the trip to Atlanta. I know that she has lost no love for Phat Phill so, sorry Dave she is probably pulling for KY in both games. This has been a weird season- anything could happen. You have to wonder what Mark Richt has up his sleeve for today’s game.
If the Gators don’t beat the snot out of Florida International and FSU they don’t deserve to go to a bowl.
With Dennis Dixon unfortunately now out of the picture does that bring the Heisman down to Tim Tebow and Matt Ryan? Let’s hope for the best for Dennis Dixon. He has a long hard road ahead to full recovery.
My Heels play GA Tech. Maybe the Jackets will be looking ahead to the Dawgs next week and we can slip up on them.
I hope DOOK doesn’t beat ND. We’d never hear the end of it. Can you believe this is a national broadcast? The only ones watching will be the ND fans and the 500 or so diehard DOOK football fans. (Don’t laugh unless you ever went to a game at Wallace-Wade where the visiting team fans outnumber the home team fans 10-1.)
The BC-Clem’s son game should decide who is going to play the winner of the VA-VA Tech game for the ACC championship. I hope it is not Clem’s son. Hate them as bad as I do SC.
Just read in the paper that the Panthers are going to roll Vinnie out in his wheelchair to start against the Packers. Packers 43 Panthers 6. You can take that one to the bank.
How about the Celtics? I knew they would be better with the additional of Garnett but I never envisioned this. Boston is hands down the best sports town right now. If you could just get the Bruins kick started.
On a personal note my daughter and her husband found out they are going to have a boy in mid-January. Since Megan got to name Emma, Neil is going to name the boy. He will be Payton Patrick Green. Oh yes because Neil is from Indiana and a big Colts fan you can guess where the Payton comes from. Patrick is after his grandfather who died several years ago while Neil was in Iraq.

Kentucky
November 17, 2007 - 12:09 ET by ricklailIn order for the Gators to go to Atlanta that have to hope that Kentucky beats Georgia today and Tennesse next week. Georgia has to beat Kentucky and hope that Tennesses loses to either Vandy this week or Kentuky next week to make the trip to the SEC Championship. That's the way Blonde explained it to me.
Southern by birth, Tarheel by the grace of God!
That's about the size of it.
November 17, 2007 - 12:18 ET by dervishToday's Georgia's last conference game, and they only have two conference losses. Tennessee also has two conference losses, but they have two more conference games to play. I think they can get by Vandy, but Kentucky's another matter. If Georgia wins today, they're assured of no worse than a tie, and that's only if Tennessee wins the next two. So it ain't over till next week, any way you slice it; but the Dawgs know all this too, and I'm fairly sure they're going to win today or die trying.

Well, Rick, I'm just hoping we don't have to eat all of our mean words about Fat Phil. I'd rather see GA go to Atlanta than the Vols.

November 17, 2007 - 12:50 ET by BlondeRight...it has to end up with a three way tie in order for the Gators to play in Atlanta. A rather long shot, I think. Alas....
The SEC East got even more difficult this year, there are no doormats any longer...not even poor old Vandy. Kentucky & the old Ball Coach's teams had some very respectable games.
The Gators need to deal with the 2 yearly West games. They always give us grief. 2 of the 3 losses were to the SEC West.
David Gregory, do you know which damn network you lie for? ~ Uncle Jimbo, @Blackfive
It could happen --
November 17, 2007 - 13:02 ET by dervishIf Georgia loses to KY and Tech (and neither of them is a rollover), and TN loses to EITHER Vandy or KY (not a bad bet), and the Gators beat FAU and FSU (also not a bad bet), I think the Gators get it with a better overall record. We'll know next Saturday night.
You're right about the strength of the conference. With so much parity, winning games outside the conference gains importance -- I suspect they'll quit playing top tier teams and try to get more Florida Atlantics and Murray States and Troys in their lineups. (Tennessee pretty much does this already -- they contracted with Cal back in the days when Berkeley let their students play.)

NASCAR SUX. This coming from someone whose dad took him to races as a kid, parked cars at Hickory MS as a teen to get in free, and is an 8th cousin to Dale Jarrett. (Momma says that 8th cousin is too far back to count but it proves that it is in my blood.)
It is no longer the venue that was pioneered by the Pettys, Bakers, Allisons, Earnharts, i.e.
The car of tomorrow sucks. It does not resemble the car on the street. The old adage win on Sunday sell on Monday no longer holds true for the manufactures.
The points chase sucks. I never watched races based on the points race. I watched them to see who wins. The shitty points chase is made for TV.
You can’t beat and bang anymore. Gone are the days when Richard Petty and Bobby Allison could beat hell out of each other on the short tracks. The current drivers are a bunch of wussies. They whine like newborns if touch their bumpers.
I am asking for your prayers. It is going to be hard to walk away after all these years. So far I haven’t watched the last 2 races and don’t plan on watching tomorrow. I have until the Daytona 500 to completely withdraw. This is no longer my dad’s NASCAR.
I am not going to give up Nationwide series (formerly Busch) or the Craftsman trucks. There just so much that I can give up at one time.

November 17, 2007 - 21:30 ET by ThisnThatAs long as it's not a repeat of the famous 1982 snowplow game at Foxboro--in reverse. Remember that? The snowplow driver, Mark Henderson, was serving a 15-year prison term for burglary and out on work release. He was released from prison a few years after the game. His plow was a John Deere tractor with a sweeper attached. When interviewed by a TV reporter about the controversy, Henderson replied, "What are they gonna do, throw me in jail?"
The Patriots went on to complete the field goal and win the game 3-0. Shula has never forgiven the Patriots for that, and is probably part of the reason he made his early-season comments about a tainted undefeated season, if the Patriots go --- All ----- THe ---------WAY!

Justin Wilson's Sweet Potato Pie Recipe (LUS Wins)
November 17, 2007 - 20:22 ET by Del DolemonteAs promised last week, here's Justin Wilson's recipe for Sweet Potato Pie in honor of "LUS" winning tonight. In his own words, "this is pure goodness":
1 1/2 cups mashed boiled sweet potatoes
1/2 cup honey
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 large eggs
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup pecan pieces or whole pecans (otional)
1 9-inch unbaked pie shell
Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees. Mix the sweet potatoes, honey, cinnamon, and salt together in a large mixing bowl. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, then gradually beat in the sugar and vanilla. Pour the eggs into the potato mixture and mix well. Add the pecans, if desire, and pour into the pie shell. Bake for 1 hour or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
This is also good topped with coconut pudding.

There needs to be a playoff! In my opinion they way it could work would be go back to the traditional bowl alignments (Rose Bowl: Pac 10 vs. Big Ten; Orange Bowl: Big 12 vs. At-large; ect...) After the Bowl Games, which would be an elimination round, take the four highest ranked winners, seed them, and have a four team playoff for the National Title.
