Re-post question

Regarding reports that the hillary campaign is returning money, how does this sceanario fit the bill of becoming a "let's get around the law" scam?
Example:
Money is donated to the campaign
That money is deposited into the campaign general fund
Investigators/NB folks learn that the money is illegal (too much from one person, Charlie, whatever)
Campaign "does the right thing" and cuts a check to "return the money"
THEN - this returned check is NOT cashed!
What happens to this money?

Sounds to me that this would be the perfect scam to get around all the "returned" money problem, look good, and still keep the cash - am I missing something here? (not saying this is being done, - cough - but I wouldn't be surprised)

Although a lot of

Although a lot of contributions come in to a campaign without any fanfare or awareness, the vast majority of funds are collected and delivered through a very well defined series of fund raisers, fund raising coordinators, and their controllers in the campaign committee. The campaign knows exactly which population groups are being targeted, what the methods for targeting them are, how much is expected, how much is received, and how to make up any short falls.

All these Chinese people donating $1,000+ aren't getting their hopes of having their families brought over from China up because of what they are reading in the media. Hillary has been largely silent on this issue. They are getting the word as an organized communications effort that originates with the campaign. And when the donors come up short, you have guys like Chu who know how to make up doners... just like they make up voters.

Nice answers

BUT - is this being done, is it a scam if it is?

Like to find out if there is a non-Cowardly reporter who can do the leg work and find if this is going on. Is there such a person?

Still trying to track

Still trying to track ya down on this:

Please inform me how Pauls defense platform as laid out in the three previous debates will strngthen America and will be accepted by the Republican rank and file. Please do not link some study done by a Paul accolyte, please limit comments to those made during the previously stated debates.

To assist you I have compiled a few of these comments in question:

"They (Iran) are not a threat to Israel. Israel has 200 or 300 nuclear missiles, and they can take care of themselves. So you shouldn’t assume that we have to jump in and go to war"

or

"We should not go to war, we should not go to war without a declaration. We should not go to war when it’s an aggressive war. This is an aggressive invasion. We’ve committed the invasion of this war, and it’s illegal under international law.

or

"We need a new foreign policy that said we ought to mind our own business, bring our troops home, defend this country, defend  our borders "

Itis my position that the average Republican will not accept a candidate with these policies....

Well, you've at least come across some of his own words.

Here's some help, an entire library. He's a prolific writer, and you can find info there on a variety of subjects not limited to the present ill-advised war. And yes, we should not go to these UN "led" wars that are undeclared, they're fiscal timebombs. And yes, we should also mind our own affairs, as the Founders said. You are not gonna get different answers from me by asking the same questions over & over, so deal with it.

You're reaping what Republicrats and Demopublicans together sowed with stupid-ass, unfair, unAmerican ballot access restrictions, and now I'm about as sympthetic to your complaints about it as you people no-doubt were to mine for 2 freakin' decades. I keep saying this, but handle it like a man. I changed tactics due to unfair laws. Deal with it by working with me for fair laws next time, but don't whine at me endlessly and expect respect -- it won't happen.

Since you did not follow

Since you did not follow the request of "Please do not link some study done by a Paul accolyte, please limit comments to those made during the previously stated debates.

I will now dissect the Paul position on each of the positions, explaining why they will not abe adhered to by the Rank and File Republican voters.

Once again, please do your own work, do not simply LINK a library to it.  Tryin to help you out here, make you credible....

"They (Iran) are not a threat to Israel. Israel has 200 or 300 nuclear missiles, and they can take care of themselves. So you shouldn’t assume that we have to jump in and go to war"

At its most populated point, Israel consists of a land approximately 13 miles wide, with 80% of its population within a strategic footprint of a handful of the most primitive nuclear weapons.  Being a key ally, (Note the term, ally, I know libertarians do not BELIEVE in allies, but go with me on this one) an attack on Israel would be a forerunner to an attack on the US.  (Big Satan - Little Satan).

The Key to Mutually Assured Destrustion (MAD) which Paul alludes to in his response rests in the belief that an enemy does not wish to perform an act that could cause a destructive response in retaliation.

Since the current religious oligarchy ruling Iran seeks confrontation in order to ensure the return of the 14th Mahdi, and does not fear destructive response due to the dogmatic belief that as a nation they benefit in the next world (Paradise), MAD therefore is not an effective strategy.

Nor would it be an effective strategy if that power could "Launder" their weaponry through a seperate, but allied (Note the term) terrorist group seeking a similar attack, the overhelming throwweight of the Isrealis are therefore nullified.  But Paul probably does not care anyway.

or

"We should not go to war, we should not go to war without a declaration. We should not go to war when it’s an aggressive war. This is an aggressive invasion. We’ve committed the invasion of this war, and it’s illegal under international law.

Please tell me the difference between a congressionally mandated use of force resolution and a Declaration of War?

In the United States there is no format required for declaration of war. The term "Declaration of War" is not, in fact, mentioned by the consitiution.   Instead the Constitution states, "Congress shall have the power to ... declare War, ..." without defining the form such declarations will take. Therefore, many have argued congressionally passed authorizations to use military force are "Declarations of War."  Legally this resolves this issue.

Ergo, all past use of force resolutions (Starting during Barbary Pirate days under Jefferson to the present Iraq resolution) are as equally valid as a formal declaration of war.  Being that we are now also fighting non-state actors, they are even MORE valid.

Reference the AGRESSIVE War nonesense.  GOD, I HOPE we are fighting an agressive war.  No nation has ever won a war on the defense.  ( I thought you as an accountant played chess)  Hahahahahahha.

Obviously Paul will not connect to the average Republican on this issue.

"We need a new foreign policy that said we ought to mind our own business, bring our troops home, defend this country, defend  our borders "

Isolationist policies have not favored well amongst Republican voters since it surrenders initiative to our enemies.  What can be pre-empted, is allowed to fester and harm us at inopportune moments.

Itis my position that the average Republican will not accept a candidate with these policies....

1918 to 1941

The point being, crybaby, that the isolationism that Libertarians like you so deeply CRAVE leads to more expense in the end.

Res tantum valet quantum vendi potest.

I've done my own work, you don't listen.

Look to the man's own words, not mine. And if declarations of War are so unimportant, why did the Founders make the Constitution the way they did, which happens to be the way we've ignored in these losing UN-wars?? And "supporting Israel" doesn't mean "supporting the most-corrupt members of their "Likud" party in a construction boondoggle of questionable legality" with my tax money, but that's what happened under both Republicans and Democrats.

You have yet to address the fact that you've reaped what you sowed by ignoring Libertarians during 20 years of my "whining" about unfair ballot laws, so I'm still having fun whenever you whine about the temerity of Paul to run as a Republican, but you seem to have quit with that particular whine, for some reason... And quit the "isolationist" lie, he's a Constitutionalist noninterventionist, just like the Founders and just like various Republicans whose wisdom has been sadly forgotten, like Taft.

More of Dr. Paul's own words here at the Taft Club speech (you'll hate part 1, but it's important for Republicans to see our crowds, and Dr. Paul's grandkids are lovely!). Part 6 answers many of your questions, but note, you won't like the answers. That dislike won't change the fact that your questions have been answered, though. I think in either part 6 or 7 he put both Glen Beck & Bill O'Reilly in their places, which prompted some "PINHEAD!" name-calling from O'Reilly today. Heh heh heh, that's one of the ways we know it's working, when they call us silly names. :)

And one more thing in the "if Ron Paul's so-horrible, how come?" category...I know we dominate the web despite all the cases of media bias I've singlehandedly-busted here on NB, but why do you suppose we also dominate so completely on military donations? Now we've surpassed Obama as well as all the Republicans? :)
JMR

More cold water, coming right up!

If Declarations of War are the be all and end all of diplomacy, please explain why they have been so seldom used, long before the UN was even a thought or an idea.

And "supporting Israel" doesn't mean "supporting the most-corrupt members of their "Likud" party in a construction boondoggle of questionable legality" with my tax money, but that's what happened under both Republicans and Democrats.  You have a ton of explaining to do here.  I don't remember any U.S. government turning their backs on Israel when Labor governments were in power.  Why can't you admit that you and your God both hate Israel?

So, you dominate completely on military donations?  Then answer these questions for me, as I have worked as a voting officer:

1) How do you know with complete certainty that all of those donors are actually military?  I can make campaign contributions, and all I need to do is omit my rank.  Then I make my donation as a private citizen.  In fact, unless I pull out my military ID, no one has any clue that I am military.  This isn't Prussia, where I am wearing my officer's uniform all the time.

2) Do said military members, if in fact they are in the military, know that they are violating regulations?  I perused through the AFI on political activity recently, and can quote it chapter and verse from my hard-copy version sometime, but political donations of that sort to any partisan political candidate - and your God fits that category - are prohibited.

Paul's grandkids are lovely?  That's nice.  It doesn't absolve their grandpa of being a complete foreign policy idiot...

Look to the man's own

Look to the man's own words, not mine.

1.)  I AM interested in what you have to say.  That is the nature of debate, which is what this website is about.  if you are only willing to post links to candidates websites, please cease as that does not further the debate.

And if declarations of War are so unimportant, why did the Founders make the Constitution the way they did, which happens to be the way we've ignored in these losing UN-wars??

2.)  Please specify the exact format for a declaration of war and then please specify why it is different than a congressionally mandated use of force.  As you might remember, there IS no specified format, and until the Supreme Court says that a Use of force mandate is NOT viable, we will continue to go with it.

By the way, the founders who wrote the Constitution seem to have approved of use of force mandates since they used them enough. (See the Dey of Tripoly)

And "supporting Israel" doesn't mean "supporting the most-corrupt members of their "Likud" party in a construction boondoggle of questionable legality" with my tax money, but that's what happened under both Republicans and Democrats.

3.)  So, you approve of the concept of a nation having allies.  How progessive of you.

Your post seems to posit it would be different if Iran destroys Isreal if they elected a saint versus a sinner as their chief of state.  Huh?

Is Israel an ally or not?

You have yet to address the fact that you've reaped what you sowed by ignoring Libertarians during 20 years of my "whining" about unfair ballot laws

4.) How have I ignored the Libertarians?  My mere response to your posts indicates that I have done nothing of the sort.  And please post a COGENT post regarding why you believe that ballot laws are unfair for libertarians.  (Do not post others work, do  you own for a change.)

And quit the "isolationist" lie, he's a Constitutionalist noninterventionist, just like the Founders

5.)  Please state the differences between a isolationist and a Constitutional non-interventionalist.  Then please list the occasions in which the founders referred to themselves in this manner.

6.)  Okay, tell me what Paul said, then tell me what you think about it.  or go home.  As stated above, simply posting links without your own analysis does not furhter the debate.  I do not allow my Lieutenants to simply post references without analysis, and I shall not allow you to as well.

Let see if you can get you mind, honed by "CHESS" to perform analysis.

7.)  So, you have lured in everyone with no outside life other than the web.

I see that Paul was leading in the web poll during the recent conference, but then dropped mightily in the rankings when it came time to ocunt those who actually showed up.  What does that tell us?  Perhaps Pauleacs vote REPETITIVELY online in numbers not seen by other voting groups.

You still have not proved to me that MAINLINE REPUBLICANS WILL VOTE FOR THE MAN.  THAT IS WHAT MY POST COVERED.

Nickel Grass

Something interesting I came across the other night...

I was re-reading some of Golda Meir's account of how things went down in the Yom Kippur War, and was going over her personal view of Nickel Grass.  She was impressed by the C-5s, and as I am a "loggie", I so appreciate that.  It makes me well up with pride...

Anyways, I realized something while re-reading.  Meir was NOT, repeat, NOT, a Likud PM!

So if Paul was right...can he, or you, explain what the hell we were doing with Operation Nickel Grass?

Res tantum valet quantum vendi potest.

Whine Whine Whine, as a poster often says

Please whine just one more time about "unfair ballot access laws".  I have done some research in the matter quite by accident last night.  The next time you mention it, I will post that research.  It will show the phrase "unfair ballot access laws" for the pathetic whine/BS that it is.

Res tantum valet quantum vendi potest.

Go ahead.

Post your research. And try to explain why $130,000 + sinecures with a few dozen well-paid jobs for your least-employable friends go uncontested, repeatedly, in Florida. I had no idea things were doing this well in the economy....

I fear NO research by whiners like you, though. Why would I, considering your blinkered views of various aspects of history? I know this issue pretty well, after all. Whiner, we've changed tactics and now you've got a bigger tent in the Republican party than you'd wanted when you were trying to ignore me. Deal with it like Reagan did, instead of whining constantly like little girls.

Oh, and one more thing. How do you like my idea of Fidel Castro breaking his communist party into a tax and spend welfare-state half and a borrow and spend warfare-state half? Fidel could then institute an exact translation of Florida's own unfair ballot laws and apply them to the 2 halves of his brutal monopoly, for 0 effective change and 100% continued effective dictatorial control-freakery, and say "look, we now have 'free' elections!" :)

You say you fear no research, but I see you running away from what I have to say like a cockroach when the light is turned on.

But here's a small slice of it: ballot access laws are SO UNFAIR, yet here in TX you can vote the Libertarian party straight ticket!!!  Could it be that the only reason you whine so vehemently about "unfair ballot access laws" is your inability to own responsibility for losing an election, blaming that loss on everyone BUT YOURSELF?

Then, in 1813, Napoleon lost 46,000 dead and wounded at the Battle of Leipzig. Napoleon had to retreat, and abdicate, only to return again to lose at Waterloo.

How about an Al Gore Update?

A Nancy Pelosi Update.

I'm a big fan of Vin Diesel (junk-food entertainment) ... Love his Riddick movies.

Anyhow, I understand one of his new projects is  Hannibal the Conqueror :

Vin Diesel stars as the Carthaginian general who led an elephant-riding battalion across the Alps to attack Rome in the 3rd Century B.C.

Fine and good ... But I demand the next Riddick flick ... ASAP!

Will it be "Gladiator" or

Will it be "Gladiator" or "Alexander the Great"?
I, too, am a big Riddick fan. I thought the second movie was vastly under-rated, and it showed an extremely-hot Thandie Newton in tight, clingy clothing...

Hopefully "Gladiator" ...

Hopefully "Gladiator" ...

"That was only one guy,"

"That was only one guy," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, "and he was pretty much asking for it." ?????

Oh, boy.

In reference to The Short One

This is the best representation of that campaign.

Roger, excellent post

Great stuff today Roger. Zama was very important, because at the time Carthage and Rome were the 2 strongest nations at that time.  Had Hannibal won, Carthage would have remained a strong influence, and the Roman Empire may not have grown like it did.  After the defeat of Hannibal, Rome became the strongest nation in that region and then they attacked and defeated the Greeks.  Considering that Western Civilization was influenced by Roman, Greek, Judiasm and Christianity, without that strong Roman influence who knows how Western Civilization develops.

The Battle of Leipzig also known as the Battle of the Nations is also extremly important.  This is probably a bigger defeat than Waterloo for Napoleon.  He never could really recover after this defeat.

Napoleon's Russian Campaign is one of the biggest military blunders in world history.  If Unsane were here he could discuss the importance of logistics.  I've read varying numbers of how many Napoleon started with and how many returned.  I've seen that he started with 500,000+ and less than 100,000 returned.  Some estimates have said 25,000 returned.  The Russians kept luring him in further and further into Russia.  He went to Moscow and thought the Russians would surrender, but they had deserted the city, and then he started his retreat and ran into horrible weather as well as being harrased on the retreat.  I believe he started his fighting in Poland and then kept fighting more and more into Russia.

Speaking of the BET

Speaking of the BET awards...Laura said yesterday on her program that many of the presenters were giving kudos to Michael Vick. What is up with that? My husband says that our culture has turned so far from what is good and moral that it will never turn back. I am sad to say that I agree.

msh, you should know by now
