"As a public relations effort, I mean, this is like the litigation equivalent of a suicide bombing. It just doesn't make any sense," noted MRC director of media analysis Tim Graham about former "CBS Evening News" anchor Dan Rather's lawsuit against CBS. The NewsBusters senior editor was interviewed shortly after 5:30 p.m. Eastern on Thursday's "Big Story" by Fox News reporter Heather Nauert.

"It's mind-boggling," Graham added, noting the bewilderment many in the media business have been expressed about Rather's decision to file a lawsuit. "Big Story" co-host Heather Nauert agreed, adding that she found incredible Rather's claim that his on-air apology for Memogate was "forced."

Rather Ego
Thu, 09/20/2007 - 18:31 ET by allanfThe complaint Rather intends to file reflect is tremendous ego. He claims that his contract with CBS obliged it to give him a certain amount of airtime. When he was removed as anchor he did not receive the contracted air time.
He also claims the contract obliged CBS to pay him full value of the contract and release him if they were not going to give him air time. He claims lost opportunity, fraud and contract violations.
Rather Not

Nice correction regarding Imus on "CBS" Radio. Very tasteful....didn't miss a beat.
amazing liars
Thu, 09/20/2007 - 21:02 ET by SportPoliticsI am still thoroughly amazed by the lies that issue from the babbling heads of Rather and Mapes. I was floored when Mapes was interviewed by Bozell and she clung to a belief that the documents were " never non authenticated". That made perfect sense to her since most news is now "aspersions and insinuations". That's how it is done today, it's a conspiracy implied by a percieved possible intent manufactured with decuded insinuations from rumored to be dark ideations emanating from the target.
So of couse Rather and Mapes think everything they did was perfectly fine, they've been doing the same thing for decades. The immense depth and intricacy of the lies woven into the "possible dark scenario" Rather presented that night are what is truly startling, the realization upon perusing the investigative report, that they had done it thousands of times before and were merely going about it the way they had been for decades, not to mention the more than obvious questions left unasked yet deftly covered up by slipped in errant speculations concerning something else.
I suspect Rather feels he was at the leading edge of his profession, able to cobble together a gigantic twisted mess of falsifications and smears and present them in a controlled fashion designed to cause everyone who witnessed the spectacle to never be aware of the paper thin lies the whole charade was premised upon. He considered himself the magical master of such a thing.
Here we see how the precious lying sack of crap cries out that his overblown seventy some year old carcass wasn't flown off to a spot where he could launch another ridiculous lie on the American people:
" Among the most egregious indignities he suffered, Mr. Rather says, was the network’s response to his request to be sent as a correspondent to the scene of Hurricane Katrina in the fall of 2005. Mr. Rather is the most experienced reporter in the United States in covering hurricanes,” his lawyers write in the suit. “CBS refused to send him,” thus “furthering its desire to keep Mr. Rather off the air.”

" Egregious indignity " This is the type of people we have "giving us the news". Their self-assessment is blown so far above the clouds of reality that they must be talked to, treated, and related to in a manner that, at all times, " pays homage to their own glorious legend of themselves that resides inside their heads ". Sensitive, fragile, elitists.
Does it ever occur to them that there are thousands up on thousands of viewers that can add two digit numbers in their own head, unlike Dan Rather, who could never "do the math", and are consciously aware of their gigantic string of lies and setup fantasies they molded into " an attack " that Rather claimed at the time was backed by "unimpeachable sources" and "multiple experts" ( who it turns out told him to take a hike when "verificiation" was the question. ) Dan Rather, like Bagdad Bob, will pretend until the day he dies.
I guess much like the coarse and degraded culture nowadays, the horror that a human being like Dan Rather exists and is active in the modern media spectacled parody of itself, is the reason it is so fascinating. It's why Charles Manson had to be locked up instead of executed, so many people wanted to study him like one observes something not yet understood, with horror, and the rare hope that they "snap out of it" .
That's how I view Dan Rather, a liar up front and foremost, yet slithering around on screen before in a pretense of credibility, and self-proclaiming that he has met the standard by which he should be judged correct, when the opposite is much more obvious to all. The ignorant arrogance is entertaining.
In a dark way I realize he can never allow himself to believe otherwise, not only publicly, but privately, or he'd have a tremendous breakdown from the decades of deception and literally go insane trying to face himself, and more likely than not winding up committing suicide, like Hunter S Thompson.
Rather makes perfect sense NB
Thu, 09/20/2007 - 20:56 ET by Lame CherryI will repeat the trail of tears which led Dan Rather from Texas into CBS New York as he knows full well the skeletons of the JFK assassination.
Three Texans emerged on the national scene after November 22. They were Lyndon Johnson, Dan Rather and Bob Schieffer.
Schieffer, for those who know his story from his own mouth might be interested to know that while the world was poised on a nuclear confrontation with the Soviets over a murdered US President.....Bob was in a police office. Schieffer got there by impersonating a Dallas police officer and sat with Lee Harvey Oswald for hours before the police figured out what was going on.
What happened we only have Schieffer's recount, but we do know the "whatever he gathered" off of Oswald soon had him in CBS New York.......pretty good jump for a nobody reporter.
The other jumper was Dan Rather who was on the bridge overlooking the entire murder scene. Kennedy's car passed directly under him. The grassy area was to his left and the school book depository was in front of him.......yet Rather claims he saw nor heard anything on that day. Apparently CBS liked reporters who saw and heard nothing as they hired him immediately to New York.
People looking at this current Ratherdom have no idea how the real world operates. Rather looks nuts to them, but look at what Rather has just done:
CBS is now being hauled into court. A court which will require facts under a wide array of questions. Questions which will go through the entire establishment of CBS and their various Rockefeller feeds who create stories CBS will dispense to sway the nation and their operatives in government like Armitage who staged Plamegate.
You think the pictures of Abu Gahrib just happened? Those pictures were ferreted out by an operative SENT WITH THE SPECIFIC TASK of creating a story out nothing in the same way this cartel went after Patton for wacking that soldier in WW II.
Dan knows all of this, including the JFK situation as he was one of a number of people rewarded for keeping their mouth shut and promoting a cartel line. Of course Rather is not going to sink himself in what he knows, but that is what this is about in leverage against the most powerful people in the world. Rather is not interested in a few million dollars........Rather is demanding to be let back into the inner circle which he was ousted from.
I have not checked to see what it was that turned the CFR on Rather, but Dan ticked these people off and he was set loose.
Right now the "paranoid" plant from the cartel is making the rounds in the rather subtle character assassination which Rather is ripe for in sounding nuts often enough people believe it. That is their first attempt to neutralize this as much as getting this thrown out of court.
Rather is banking he can embarrass the cartel which is not the brightest bulb move to get his prestige back "of the inner circle". It is not that bright, because this cartel..........well you have seen them destroy people at a whim to the circus they made out of Dallas on November 22 in covering up whatever happened there. Rather has punched a very big tiger which can ruin him in more ways than he ever dreamt.
That is what this is about and not about money. Rather is not that sound if he thinks he can win this. Smart people just shrug and walk away quickly before the cartel really comes after them.
