MRC’s Times Watch guru Clay Waters sat on the couch in the New York studios of Fox & Friends this morning in the 8 am EST hour to discuss the New York Times offering cut-rate ad space to MoveOn.org to bash General Petraeus. FNC’s Gretchen Carlson told Waters that the Times now claims they offer this discount rate for advocacy groups and for ads that float without a scheduled publication date.

Clay countered: "Right, right. Some wag suggested this was the family discount. The floating ad, this sounds plausible, but the thing is the ad itself, you read the ad itself, it says, ‘Today will General Petraeus will become General Betray Us?' which indicates it’s a pretty specific time frame. And generally, there’s a pretty strict wall of separation between your business side and your editorial side. As someone pointed out, if anyone is going to breach that wall, it would be the publisher of the Times, ‘Pinch’ Sulzberger. He’s made, he’s a proud liberal. He’s made his anti-war statements pretty publicly. The Times would be a logical choice for MoveOn.org. That’s where their fans are."
Never forget Mr. Pinch telling SUNY graduates that his sainted Sixties generation "had seen the horror and futility of war and smelled the stench of government corruption. Our children, we vowed, would never know that. So, well, I am sorry." And more: "It wasn't supposed to be this way. You weren't supposed to be graduating in an America fighting a misbegotten war in a foreign land."
Every war is futile and misbegotten. As Clay said, Pinch and MoveOn: they go together.

Just heard a clip on

Well, shoe's on the other foot now, eh? I'm sure NB can make a list of republican related (non)stories the MSM ran ragged for days/weeks. Compared to calling the top-dog General in a time of war a liar in a top national newspaper by a group that is recorded to be one of the biggest funders of the democrat party IS worth talking about.
Guliani's put up a full page in NYT
September 14, 2007 - 11:26 ET by JayTeeSeems Rudy took out a Cheap Ad in NYT also....?
IF...a BIG IF...IF the Ad floats for a time at a discount....the timing of the MOVE ON Ad was pretty fantastic...because if it had floated to a Week from now, it's impact would not have had as good a timing for Petraus's tstimony.
I don't buy the "Float" explanation.

Let's accept that they offer a discount for "advocacy groups." OK. That's why they got the ad cheaply. Now let's pretend it was a "float ad" and they didn't know it said "Today" (to coincide with the hearings). That would mean that the NY Times editors chose, on their own, to run the ad on Gen. Petraeus' first day of congressional testimony. What does that say about their intentions?
Great point but...

The only problem with that cenario is that I remember reading or hearing about a statement put out by somebody from the Times saying, they don't review or edit the content of advocacy ads. They said this after so many people complained about the ad and it's content.
I thought the original
September 14, 2007 - 17:37 ET by motherbeltI thought the original story said they had purchased the ad to run on Monday, but I could be wrong.
As for the probability that it was just a coincidence that the ad ran on the day Gen. Petraeus began his testimony? Sorry, I'm not buying that.
Why don't we.....
September 14, 2007 - 11:37 ET by Prester John......just start referring to them as "lose on.org" because that's all they're about?

In other words, shooting down the NYT's claim that the ad was a "floater" with no specific day that it would be run.
Notice how it's always
September 14, 2007 - 16:30 ET by Chris NormanNotice how it's always FoxNews where they interview people from the MRC? The MSM networks have their fingers stuck in their collective ears.
ANATOMY...
September 16, 2007 - 13:55 ET by danybhoy...and the MSM have their heads jammed up their @$$. Look, if I'm working in the GOP side, I'm pounding the fact the NYT & it's pals at MoveOn(along with the other kook sites)are clearly not on the side of the USA & it's coalition partners in this fight. I would take many of the statements made by the usual suspects about the war is lost, we were lied to, blah-blah-blah, & run them out their in ads, I call them out by name at press conferences & interviews. We all know who the people are who see the USA & GW Bush as the enemy more then UBL, Al Queda, & other radical jihadis. Those who don't follow as closely need to know who is saying what, & they need to understand that there will be consiquences if you give the Dems total control of Capital Hill.
