Tribune Co. Revenue Drops - Again

By Mithridate Ombud | August 24, 2007 - 16:22 ET

It should come as a surprise to nobody that revenue is down again for the Tribune Company, owner of news properties such as the LA Times and Chicago Tribune. This time the bleeding stopped at 5.9 percent. Circulation was down 5.4 percent. Classifieds are down 18.2 percent. Retail advertising sales are down 6 percent.

But it's not their fault, of course. This time the blame is "due to difficult year-over-year comparisons." Though one must wonder if their circulation would continue to have dropped had they heeded my suggestion that newspapers "get rid of the bias, the America-hating columnists, the socialist editorials, and the reporters pushing a gay/lesbian/transgendered/illegal alien/pro-abortion/anti-God/anti-gun agenda?"

Or they could continue doing what they're doing.

Classifieds down 18% is hitting them where it counts

Keep hitting them in the Pocket book, and some more Journalists will be OUT OF WORK.

continue

They will always blame others , thats SOP, Its too easy. I have a favorite Judas Preist song  titled Bleed the Freak. This is basically whats happening, the " enlightened" are in denial and cant change their entrenched idealogy. Lets hear it for that river in Egypt, here here,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

So another referendum on

So another referendum on the Tribune Companies is in, circulation down, profits down, classifieds down.  At this pace, when will the Trib Cos be insolvent?  Or better yet, when will the company be up for sale, I'm sure Murdoc would be interested in buying at a fire sale.

As I've stated over & over

As I've stated over & over again on this site, we will begin to see newspapers disappearing in about 7 years and most will be extinct in 15 years.

Tribune

As liberals, and never having been concerned with facts before even if the facts portend their own demise, they will “continue to do what they are doing”  because they are above such trivia as reduced revenues. They will, however, one day come to a rude awaking when their stock holders tell them to ‘shit or get off the pot’.

Using conventional Left Wing

Using conventional Left Wing Logic in time of falling receipts (tax revenues) they should simply increase the price (tax rates) and then all will fine. Better yet they could give out free subscriptions (earned income tax credits) to people who've never even bought the newspaper whilst raising the rate even more on long-term subscribers (high income taxpayers).

Flashman

Very Good, Flashman! Excellent idea!

Or

Or - If they would stop killing all those trees for paper they could apply to the Goracle for a miracle.

Parakeets across the land

Parakeets across the land are trembling in disbelief and despair that someday their primary source of recyclable defecation absorbing materials will no longer be available to them.

}}---> Tribune doing just fine, thanks

The Lefties are so mired in their myriad of syndromes they don't realize they are turning their tired old rags into bargains for the likes of Rupert Murdoch.

Here's a idea -

Hey, what if "Air America" stepped in to bail them out. What? It's bankrupt, too?

BWAHAHAHAHA!!

It's simple folks. Print the news without bias.
