Bernie Sanders: A 'Left-Leaning' Socialist

  • Bookmark and Share

If Bernie Sanders is “left-leaning,” what does it take to be “liberal”?

New York Times writer Edmund L. Andrews referred to Sanders as a “left-leaning independent” in his article “Under Attack, Fed Chief Studies Politics.”

Jim DeMint was labeled as a “conservative Republican.”

Sanders, as noted by Democracy Now, is the first self-described socialist to be elected to Senate. Sanders continues to call himself a socialist.

Of course, this is coming from the same newspaper that used conservative reaction against Dede Scozzafava as an example of Republicans ”torching the big tent”, while threatening moderation and centrism. Perhaps if they had just nominated a socialist…

Here are the relevant passages from the New York Times article:

Senator Jim DeMint, a conservative Republican from South Carolina, denounced the Fed on the Senate floor in July as an “unelected central bank” that enjoyed a “monopoly over the flow of our money” and operated in “almost complete secrecy.”

Senator Bernie Sanders, a left-leaning independent from Vermont who sponsored a Senate version of Mr. Paul’s bill, attacked the Fed for being beholden mainly to Wall Street.

Where'd the open thread go?

Better description

Bernie Sanders has long been stuck in the trough of Liberalism. He is saddened by the countries failure to accept his socialistic policies.

Does the NYT have a list of

Does the NYT have a list of "right-leaning" or "conservative" socialists?

Isn't that what Dede is in NY23? Thus qualifying her for the Republicans large tent of diversity?

Bernie

Please.  Bernie is a Socialist.  Anytime I see this clown interviewed, he cannot bear to open his mouth without extolling the virtues of Scandinavia.  If he loves it there so damn much, he needs to move there - and besides, they need him, and especially the tax revenue he would bring, for as a wise woman once pointed out, eventually Socialists run out of other people's money.  His precious Scandinavian countries have tax rates of 60%-70%, and now that they have basically stopped having kids, they are in serious trouble.

Oh, and Bernie would find my classification of countries that are Going Nowhere - which would include all his favorite countries - completely alien.

VERMONT IS SUBURBAN NY...

Bernie is a socialist, but why move to a Scandinavian nation like Norway? Sanders did what so many NY leftists did, he left NY & fled to 1 of the smaller states in the northeast. Bernie Sanders is from NY, Howard Dean is from NY, etc. Libs are like the pioneers, they move out of areas that their policies have ruined & then vote for the same types of policies that ruined the very area they left behind.

Scandinavian countries stopped having Scandinavian kids,

but their muslim birthrates are exploding.

AMERICA ALONE...

Get Mark Steyn's book, "America Alone". It is all over the birthrate stats from Europe, & the people having kids are in fact muslims. It's a very good book.

Yeah, there's no such thing

Yeah, there's no such thing as a liberal in the liberal media.  Here's why: they are afraid to call a politician they agree with a liberal because by extension they would also be calling themselves a liberal which repels their journalistic "principles."  So instead they go with words like "progressive" or "left leaning."

...and Marx was a 'left-leaning' economist

Sigh!

These examples of media bias in labeling just keep piling up. You could condense your post [excellent analysis, that it is] to a bulleted item, and then combine it with all of the equally similar examples of the past 10 years, and I'd bet that this could make for a very thickly bound publication.
