Host, Interrupted: Joe Scarborough Snarks Back At Rush Limbaugh

  • Bookmark and Share

Today, Joe Scarborough continued his feud with Rush Limbaugh, insinuating that the talk radio legend is not a true conservative.

For the second time today, I’m looking ‘round the office, wondering whether I’m being punked.

Hot on the heels of Barack Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize – won for the stellar achievements (?) of the first ten days of his presidency –  we find out that Joe Scarborough believes himself to be the only true heir to the mantle of Reagan and Buckley – at least, among the radio talker set.

On this morning’s edition of Morning Joe, Scarborough and the Brew Crew had the following exchange:

JOE SCARBOROUGH, “Morning Joe” host: Kathleen, let's – let’s also talk about the Republican party.

KATHLEEN PARKER, syndicated columnist: Let's do. Joe, you are running for President, right?

SCARBOROUGH: Well, apparently if I do I don't have Rush Limbaugh's vote, he questioned my manhood.

LAWRENCE O’DONNELL, MSNBC political analyst: He is a little late in the game on questioning your manhood, by the way.

SCARBOROUGH: Well, I think it’s ironic.  I was just saying, I think it’s fascinating, you’ve got all these people that sat there and said nothing while Republicans darted recklessly left with their spending, and suddenly they are the arbiters of who’s conservative.  And you can only be conservative by being intolerant, by waving your arms around, by screaming, by calling the President a racist or a Nazi or a communist.  Come on!

For those of you who are not veterans of the “Morning Joe” shtick, this is Joe’s normal way of attacking conservative pundits who disagree with him.  Rather than attack the substance of their arguments, he denigrates their style.

Irony, thy name is Scarborough.

One wonders if Scarborough realizes that the natural, logical end of his sarcasm is the implication that one can only be conservative by being as unnaturally calm as he is.  This is the problem with making broad generalizations about one’s opponents, and an irony that Scarborough misses.  Consider the substance of what Scarborough said:

“all these people…sat there and said nothing.”

Scarborough would have us believe that Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, et al, sat behind their microphones and said absolutely nothing against the expansion in government spending under George W. Bush.  Not one word against the expansion of Medicare.  Not a single breath against No Child Left Behind.  Nary an opposing word to anything that George W. Bush proposed. This is patently false.

And now the mask is cracked.  Joe Scarborough, who (in case you were unaware) has a radio show from 10AM-12PM on WABC New York, and is attempting to achieve national syndication.  He is competing with the kings of talk radio for air time.

Is it any wonder that he’s running (what amounts to) a negative political campaign against his main competitors?

Scarborough trying to pick

Scarborough trying to pick a fight with Limbaugh?

Ahaaha!  That's mean Rush.  You shouldn't hit girls.

ahahahahahaha!!!!!!!

ahahahahahaha!!!!!!!

LOL and I think any time

LOL and I think any time the words Rush, Palin, and Hannity are mentioned it's like the Bat Signal to the loons.  I guess in their case we'll call it the Moonbat Signal;)  I'm not sure that Obama has nay room up his butt for these zombies, the MSM, and the Nobel Piece Prize Committee altogether.

When the people fear the government it's called tyranny, when the government fears the people it's called liberty!

Rush must be quivering

The best way to handle Scarborough is to ignore him.  That's what viewers do.

lol

lol

I remember Rush spending quite a bit of time blasting Bush's entitlement spending and taking calls from listeners asking "what can we do?"

The moderates of the Republican party think that we have to act like Democrats to win elections.  I think Bush losing control of congress and McCain's big flop prove otherwise.  These moderates also have to completely ignore the massive successes of Ronald Reagan.  I would argue that many of the successes of the Republican party in the decades following Reagan happened because of Reagan.

I truly hope

Rush totally ignores Joe.   Show him exactly how insignificant his opinion truly is.

THAT would hurt.

I hope he fails, too.

Two cents...

I watch this sell-out everyday on Morning Joe.  Call me crazy, but I like to know what the other side is saying.  As we all know, Joe is making his bank at MSNBC by claiming to be a conservative.  While he can make that statement, there is little truth in it whatsoever as far as I can tell.

With regard to the Rush dust-up, what he said this morning about Rush is absolutely, positively 100% false. I listened to Rush eviscerate Bush for a good many of his 8 years in office.  What Joe did this morning was look his audience in the eye and lie to their faces.

Just another day at the office for old Joe.

MSM = PR firm for the Democrat Party

Yep, old Joe is sure keeping the mslsd tradition

Of lying about conservative alive and well, the rest of the slugs over there must be proud.

My Gov. thinks I am dangerous, so be careful

"Television is a freak show" Bernie Goldberg

he keeps bragging that he's 'conservative'

and at one time he was. But since going to msnbc(small print) he has turned in to a wimp. Me not being a media figure, does he really not see that he's turned in to a wimp? Does he REALLY not see what he's become? does he REALLY think he's more consrvative than Rush? I'm glad he's out of the house. And he's at his place at MSNBC where nobody hears him

scarborough

I agree.  The funniest thing is that that guy Rachel on PMSNBC claims that PMSNBC is not biased because Scarborough is on that network.

Pretty funny

Now that's what I'm talking about!!

Finally ...someone with balls to speak up against these radical right wingers.  You go Joe!!!

Say whaaat?

Joe who?

Joe who?

Conservatism is a prop for Rush

Rush isn't a conservative. Politics is a prop for his antagonism shtick.  Hell, Rush didn't even bother to register to vote until he was about 40, and yet he's the keeper of the holy grail of conservatism. Its pretty funny when you think about it.

It really doesn't matter because Rush et al, have NO impact at the voting booth - zilch. GOP politicians that fall for the buffoonery have only themselves to blame. Rush has every right to act like an  18 going on 12 year old frat boy if there's a market for it. If people like Michael Steele mimic that buffoonery in politics, they deserve to be politically disemboweled.

But its ridiculous to waste time trying to tame self promoters like Limbaugh, Hannity and Mark "bunker man" Levin. They get paid a lot of money to serve up poop on a slice of truth to people who have and appetite for poop. They're the Jerry Springer of 2009 and you probably can expect a Broadway play about their shows one day.

The GOP has to learn from this past election that these are paper tigers. They represent a narrow band of people that won't get anyone elected ( as evidenced, 2004 and 2008). Well the GOP has to learn if it wants to win again.

On a local level, I plan on supporting the blue dog Democrat, Charlie Melancon over the prostitute patronizing Republican David "family values leaves room for hookers" Vitter.

You'll be surprised

You'll be surprised at how many Republicans vote for Melancon over Vitter. A lot of people remember the way Vitter put his kids in his "family values" commercials , all the while he's running around with prostitutes.

But you're not a Republican...

Ooh, big shock: nwahs

Ooh, big shock: nwahs weighs in again with another weak, baseless attack on Limbaugh, Hannity and Levin, offering nothing on his policy differences with these people, just trite platitudes, personal insults and an endorsement of some nobody "Blue Dog" from that cesspool in New Orleans.  How the f*** would you know what a conservative is?  You're one of those lightweight, self-important, intellectually incoherent "moderates" who constantly runs his mouth about how conservatism can't win and the Republican Party has to start following your lead.  Really?  What policies do you actually stand for?  For once in your life, be a man and explain where you differ from these real conservatives on matters of taxation, government spending, illegal immigration, education, tort reform, "Global Warming", ethanol subsidies, health insurance, energy independence, national security and other issues that actually matter to this country.  Quit being such a coward dropping lame cliches and non sequiturs (ooh, Jerry Springer, that'll certainly shame people into following clowns like David Frum) that apparently make you feel much more intelligent than you actually are.  Figure it out, nwahs, you're a laughingstock.

"I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered."  -George Best

Its not a baseless atack

I said Rush and the rest of the radio conservatives were a paper tiger and *based* the attack on the results of the 2004 and 2008 elections.

Your comprehension is lacking, and I'm basing that on the fact that you missed that and the fact that you attribute something to me that I've never said -"constantly runs his mouth about how conservatism can't win."

Well if I constantly run my mouth about it, surely you can find a post to link to with me saying that. But you can't, because you made it up. Aren't you cute :)

Again, because you can't seem to follow a paragraph, I stated its folly to try and tame those making a sport out of politics. There's a market for the crap they sell, and the crap is harmless. Turns out, from all the screaming and foreboding by and about these pundits/entertainers, they have NO effect on elections. An just for you, Melissa, that's evidenced by the increase in "conservative" talk shows and the decrease in conservatives elected. Its evidenced by the fact that their favorite, Fred Thompson, did the worse, and McCain did the best.

So its not a baseless attack. Its an observation that talk radio does not affect elections.

Quit acting like a dim bulb. I thought you were smarter than that.

Not baseless.. MINDLESS!

So, that's why your bunch wants to shut down 'talk radio' because they're 'paper tigers'??

You're a &%$##*&^% idiot!

"I ask, Sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them."
George Mason

How many times have I had

How many times have I had to repeat this to you?  Republicans lost in 2006 (not 2004) and 2008 not because of conservative talk radio, but because the Republican Party chose the path of unfettered amnesty, irresponsible environmentalism and reckless government spending...against the advice of conservatives (including those in talk radio).  John McCain was nominated because he exploited the open primary system in early states like New Hampshire and South Carolina (not to mention some really sleazy caucus conspiracies with that religious leftist Mike Huckabee) to generate an unstoppable momentum.  Democrats nominated McCain.

And by the way, you did say conservatism can't win.  Several months ago, you encouraged/begged conservatives to leave the party because they were, in your mind, damaging the party.  If I have time tomorrow, I will find the link.

Other than the doggy

Other than the doggy thingMarch 3, 2009 - 22:58 ET by nwahs  I 'm not trying to blast Rush. He's not qualified to be head of the GOP, but I have no problem with his show. However the GOP cannot survive with a type of antipope castrating the legitimate leaders of the GOP. The GOP has no choice but to divorce Rush if it wants to survive. Thats a fact, and I full expect it will be a looooooong time before any dittohead agrees with that. That is ominous. Beware of a crazy woman throwing a hash pipe. ·         reply  You HAVE to leave the GOPMarch 4, 2009 - 00:06 ET by nwahs You and people like you HAVE to leave the GOP. Government is a civilized function. It has been bastardized into a "bloodsport" ( as another poster put it) by Limbaugh. You and all his dittoheads have to to leave the GOP if it is to survive. You and all your spitball hurling dittoheads, all of the academia hating brethren, all the decorum cursing savages, have to leave for the GOP to survive. You have crapped out this house. You have to leave for it to recover. Your beer snorting tricks are not the future of this nation. Civility and intelligence are. You laud William F Buckley Jr, and when his own son rebukes this carney barking crap- YOU'RE COVERED! He's not a true Buckley.   For the GOP to survive, the dittoheads have to leave or be ignored. The clowns are running the circus. (IMO of course) Beware of a crazy woman throwing a hash pipe.

Yeah, we know, nwahs, it's Colin Powell

Seriously, don't you ever get tired of propagating pretention and charade?

I am a person with an acute sense of what made America great (past tense intentional), and I disagree with Rush on many, many things; but if he is not categorized as a "conservative," you might as well toss away current definitions of common vocabulary.

You're simply -- and transparently -- another tedious shill making the utterly asinine, laughably fallacious argument that Americans are mostly liberals or moderates, and the Republican party neeeds more Arlen Specters and Colin Powells. Gotcha. Maybe it will sell over at HuffPo. Put it out on the front step and see if any deluded libs lap it up.

But I think you will be surprised come 2010 and 2012. You exude the typical complacence of the ignorant; you have no understanding of the lessons of history and think from within a brainwashing-created, selectively perceptive shell.

Scarborough sold his soul...

Hope you know I wasn't being critical...I wished at times I were more like you...he's an arsehole plain and simple...simple and plain.

I watched the guy in the House while he was there...really liked him at first, started watching him change with his votes etc...was really disappointed to put it politely myself.

I know you weren't being critical...Sometimes I just can't bring myself to sugar coat my sentiments, but you're right...Scarborough isn't worth the attempt at verbal niceties.

I also followed him while he was in the House...He actually was my congressman. He represented the NW Florida district that I used to live in, and my folks still live there. But as you said, over time he changed, as did his votes, and I was glad when he left Congress. What a disappointment he turned out to be.

Now, as you rightly said, Joe's just out for Joe. I wouldn't trust him any further than I could throw him.

trolls visiting the comic element

Criticism of Rush, Beck, Maddow, Tingles, or morning Joe, none of this nonesense is relevant to me. The voices that interest me are the ones who can increase my taxes, who disrespect the constitution, who disrespect my vote, who want to take away my right to choose health care and put me in jail if I refuse to comply, who want to take away my right to bear arms, who mock my beliefs. I watch closely those that threaten my beloved country. When I dare speak my mind in an open forum, which is my right, I am again mocked for being "comical", ill informed, racist, and un educated. The trolls that visit here post right off their pre printed que cards even if the rant is off topic just to misdirect. They are as irrelevant to me as the ones I listed above.  If you feel I take all of this too personal, your are damned right its personal. I spent a lifetime working hard to do my share for a future for my children and grandchildren to have a better life. That work feels threatened. That is why I am a member of the angry mob, that is why I am at NB every day.  To be prepared is to be truthfully informed.
