BET: Rush Is...A Racist?

Rush Limbaugh has no problem following black conservatives. But you’d never know it, were you to read the Black Entertainment Television website.

Posted by the amorphous BET.com Staff, the following kneecapping was posted today:

Rush Limbaugh has a problem with leading Black Republicans. In recent weeks, he’s blasted his own party’s chairman, calling Michael Steele “gutless” and too weak to challenge President Obama. And now, the acid-tongued shock jock is hurling barbs at perhaps the most respected Black Republican in America, telling his estimated 20 million listeners to his radio show that former Secretary of State Colin Powell is really a Democrat in a GOP costume.

First of all, Rush Limbaugh, while generally seen as a Republican, is first and foremost a conservative. For Limbaugh, the party is simply an instrument to implement a philosophy - understanding this about conservatives would cause partisans everywhere to understand Limbaugh’s politics much better.

But the inability to understand the difference is not the only problem with this BET article.

Second, zero evidence is given to back the initial claim that “Rush Limbaugh has a problem with leading Black Republicans.” If you look at what Limbaugh said, he has a problem with the liberal tendencies of these two individuals. Limbaugh would have no problem following a conservative, even if he were colored a bright glowing green. Colin Powell, however, seems to have ranged away from the conservative policies of Republicans, and toward the more left-leaning policies of President Obama - best evidenced by Powell’s endorsement of Obama during the campaign. Also, one wonders why Limbaugh has had such nice things to say about Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas; and also why he might occasionally turn over his beloved microphone to Dr. Walter Williams for a guest appearance.

Third, the implication of this article is that Rush Limbaugh is somehow upset with having to follow black leaders in the Republican party. Has he attacked the RNC members for electing a black man? No. Has he aimed the Golden EIB Microphone at the military for having promoted a black man to such a high post as General Powell? No. Could someone name a time when Limbaugh has said that black men - or women, for that matter - were not worthy of leadership positions, based solely on the color of their skin?

He hasn’t.

Does it strike no one else as odd, that BET is upset over Limbaugh’s response to being publicly attacked?

There is no way in the world there will ever be a WHITE ENTERTAINMENT NETWORK.

Why, that would be racist, right? But it's ok for these morons to have a BLACK ENTERTAINMENT NETWORK!

Also funny that a company calling itself "Black Entertainment Television" would even risk going there... "there" being, calling someone out on racial exclusion/racism.

White Liberation Theology

Or how about a Presidential candidate that attended a church for 20 years that preached White Liberation Theology?  Me thinks a candidate like that wouldnt get too far and rightfully so.

_______ Him and the Unicorn he rode in on

"me" probablly doesnt think

"me" probablly doesnt think that much.  the idea is that the rest of tv (i.e. glenn beck, mainstream right wing media) is WET.

He probably "thinks" white

He probably "thinks" white folks in America need liberating.

But, you don't understand!

If you call a gravy-sucking pig a gravy-sucking pig, that's one thing.

If you call a gravy-sucking pig a gravy-sucking pig and said pig is not white...

That's RAAAAAAACISSST!

All clear now?

(It's in the "Liberalism is Dummies" self-help book).

Everyone's a Racist Now

I expect that in 2012, anyone that votes against President Prissypants will be called a racist. The liberals will so overuse the word that it will become meaningless.

He is half white.

If you say something against him you can be accused of being anti white.

BET thinks ALL whites are

BET thinks ALL whites are racists. La Raza, which means "the race", calls republicans racists. Part of the charter of la raza states: for the race everything, for the others, nothing". Thank God, those groups aren't racist though. You see, only whites are racist. Do you understand what it's like to be a white man in America today???. Rampant hate and discrimination are directed against you from individuals, businesses, and the Gov't.

The real joke is that

The real joke is that Mexicans are not a "race".  La Raza is a corrupt political scam.

Turner Classic Movies had a

Turner Classic Movies had a short "documentary" on May 5th (yeah that day) regarding the mistreatment Hispanics have received in Hollywood - specifically the issue of non-Hispanic actors playing Hispanic roles. Actress Rita Moreno actually said that "Caucasions" shouldn't be playing "Hispanics". This - from a Hispanic actress who played an Asian woman in "The King and I". Ah, the hypocricy...

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

For all we know, she

For all we know, she objected to that, too, but it's a reality of the business and a girl's gotta work.

Yeah, and "for all we

Yeah, and "for all we know", she didn't. What, the others don't live in the same reality and didn't have to work? I wasn't criticizing her for playing the role I was criticizing her for being a hypocrite for making an issue of something she's done too - no matter how good her reason. But, I wouldn't expect you to acknowledge that - having to stay busy splitting hairs, pick nits, and all - anything but actually participating in the main topic of commentary.

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

Maybe she's talking about

Maybe she's talking about producers and casting directors.

And you brought it up, not me.

You know what Balboa? In

You know what Balboa? In the last couple of days you have managed to annoy a great number of people with your heckling - and now you're down to me. 99% of your posts are replies to others. Do you have any original beliefs, thoughts, or views? Or is it all just snide and silly reactions to others who might? You make yourself look silly with your "but - but - but" comments - like a four year old asking, "Why?". After reading your other replies today and now, this - I have had it with you for awhile. Go glom onto someone else.

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

I thought this board was for

I thought this board was for discussion, not "original thought." You made a point. I made a counterpoint. Or did you only want responses that agreed with you.

I agree with Chris...you

I agree with Chris...you just like to jump in on the other side...then you can claim that you're playing "devil's advocate."

If you can honestly say that maybe Moreno was talking about directors and producers, then you didn't read Chris' comment.

Moreno said that Caucasians shouldn't be playing Hispanics.  Does it really matter who chose them?

Or are you saying that if a Hispanic actress is available, she should get the part of the Hispanic woman....whether or not someone else would be a bigger box office draw.

Should the producers pass up a big name to pay homage to "authenticity"???

They might say "Wow, that sucks!"  But at least they'll say "Wow!"  -Duff Goldman, the Ace of Cakes

If your disgreement was

If your disgreement was based on something other than kneejerk contrarianism, I'd be happy to discuss. However, you don't usually offer anything but snide criticisms of the way people express themselves - like you are the arbitor of what's reasonable, except to the point of silliness. You offer yourself up as some kind of standard of moderation, but like most self-styled "moderates", in the end, you stand for nothing, except as a some sort of reaction to someone else.

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

I really don't mean to come

I really don't mean to come off that way. It's just there are so many statements made day-in day-out here that go unchallenged -- some well-founded, some outlandish -- I sometimes have a hard time not being the voice of dissent.

Wow, Bal

"You know what Balboa? In the last couple of days you have managed to annoy a great number of people with your heckling - [and now you're down to me.]"

I have known Chris for well over three years now, and he is one of the most imperturbable people here at NB, yet you have managed to cheese even him off.

LOL-Nice going.  :-)

Hi, my name is Balboa, now I don't have the tiniest sliver of the truth about this, but what if there was an exception to this rule, and what if I just pulled something out of my butt, and what if that something could not be proved to not exist, why then I have now officially proved your rule is useless just so I could get people to argue with me.

Oh, and clean that up, it was just in my butt.

You know what? Bal tees me off about as much as anyone else. BUT the dems, libs and msm's MOS is to attempt to eliminate the 1st Amendment, not us. It is the left that will go to the gates of hell to re-enact the "Fairness Doctrine", not us.

I did not serve this nation in the United States Marine corps in vain. I agree with little if anything that bal suggests (I say suggest because he seldom stakes out a DEFINED position. BUT I will fight to the death to defend his right to say what he wants to say and I suggest that away from the heat of the battle, so will about everyone else on this forum.

Who was forcing silence on anybody?  No one.  What people are doing is exercising their own rights to speak up about the quality of commentary... or lack thereof...

No big deal.

Who was forcing silence on

Who was forcing silence on anybody?

Silence is maintained in many ways, sometimes it is by omitance of facts.  Sometimes it is by sparse coverage or maligning TEA parties by calling them teabaggers.  The MSM is controlling who is heard and who is not.

Sometimes silence is demanded by threats to cause harm like in the banks being threatened tio take TARP funds or non TARP lenders to Chrysler.

So you are wrong.

Okay

I think you misunderstood my comment, Dan.  I actually agree with what you just posted.  My comment was about something else... more specific to this thread.   ie.  No one on this thread is forcing silence on anybody else.  (Thankfully.)

I believe that Mexican is half Indian / half Spanish which would be mulato.

I agree with you !

I constantly hear latinos racist comments against blacks or caucasians  most of the time. I hear bias news in favour of the hispanics , even the latino community  consider the LAPD racist because they impound the cars from unlicense drivers, but the majority of LAPD  officers are LATINOS!!

One time I saw someone in a hispanic news program proclaim that the whole U.S and Canada belonged to Mexico, it made me mad! What about the navajos,  Algonquin , Shawnee Tribe, Shuswap in Canada.

Come on, this isn't fair.

Come on, this isn't fair.  I'm black and not particularly fond of Rush, but I've never thought of him as a racist.  And although the word 'racist' was never utilized on the BET website concerning Rush, one can't help thinking that after reading it.  Colin Powell has flipflopped obviously and Steele is gutless; they're both fair game.

Some black people need to stop accusing opponents of being racist, because it makes all of us look weak and cowardly.

BET does a disservice to

BET does a disservice to African Americans by trying this childish tactic. I'm sure that Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams would disagree with their "charge".

By the way, wasn't Colin Powell criticized by some of these same people for being a "house n-" when he served in the Bush Administration? Now, he's politically correct, he's "okay" again? Should Condoleeza Rice Powell's example to gain their "protection"?

Instead of discussing

Instead of discussing whether his statements are true, they play the race card. Pure fascism.  Michael Steele is too gutless to stand up to Obama, and Powell is really a leftie.  What else is new?  If you don't like the message, shoot or smear the messenger.

bwahhhhhhhhhhh truth hurts

bwahhhhhhhhhhh truth hurts

Powell has always been moderate

Surely Colin Powell is no far-lefty, and no one, to my knowledge is claiming him to be. "Colin Powell, however, seems to have ranged away from the conservative
policies of Republicans, and toward the more left-leaning policies of
President Obama - best evidenced by Powell’s endorsement of Obama
during the campaign."
This is the true nature of the man. Even during Desert Storm, Powell was no hawk- I was stationed at Headquarters Marine Corps at the time and (among others) oversaw the CNO's Marine Guard Post within the Pentagon. The talk then was that Powell was the weak link. He ascended to CoJCS during a long period of peacetime and failed miserably in the position as a dove during wartime. He remains a "Republican" because of his Army background and for his service under W as SecState.

Rush is right. And I would advise all who think similarly to Powell- if you can't handle the garbage from the left- join them! We don't want people of compromised integrity anyway.

Rush is right about Michael Steele

I like Steele personally, but while Obama is busy nationalizing the banks, 2/3 of the auto industry (for now), our health care system, putting the next two generations of Americans into poverty, dissing our strongest allies, preparing to throw Israel under the bus, working to silence conservative talk radio, and God only knows what else, the RNC Chairman is sending repubs out on a "listening" tour.

They don't need to be on some damned tour listening to a bunch of people who don't have a clue as to what Obama is up to.

They need to be in Washington raising hell from the rooftops!

By the time they finish their stupid tour, the government is going to have taken over the bulk of the private sector in this country.

Why is it that so many otherwise intelligent Americans aren't getting what is happening?

-Dave

The statists aren't coming, they are already here.

Rush can't say Steele is

Rush can't say Steele is weak without being racist.

But blacks can say that Condoleeza Rice is a house...uh....slave, or not a REAL black, and that's OK.

Could someone name a time

Could someone name a time when Limbaugh has said that black men - or women, for that matter - were not worthy of leadership positions, based solely on the color of their skin?

Will this quote do?

Take that bone out of your nose and call me back.

Or this?

It is striking how unqualified [Sen. Barack] Obama is and, and how this whole thing came about with, within the Democrat Party. I think it really goes back to the fact that nobody had the guts to stand up and say no to a black guy.

Or this?:

They forgot affirmative action for black guys. And because of that, every bit of their plan has gone up in smoke now, because they -- if -- they had to come out in favor of affirmative action for black guys, and that's -- see, this is one of the things that really irritates the women. And there are women all over this country fit to be tied -- trust me on this. And it's -- one of the things is affirmative action is exactly -- it's, you know, liberals eventually are going to be devoured by their own policies. And it has happened here. Because Barack Obama is an affirmative action candidate. There's no question, the way he is being treated by the drive-bys and so forth and so on. The way he's been puffed up here with the magical, messiah-type message with no criticism allowed.

Oh wait, that's him insisting a liberal isn't qualified because he's black, that's all right. A conservative insult would not be justifiable.

Its not racist to project that if Obama were white, he would not be President- it is merely fact.

I looked into my fantasy

I looked into my fantasy land crystal ball and I saw the same thing! Funny how that works.

1. As for the "bone in the

1. As for the "bone in the nose" comment, that just means somebody is acting like a cave man.  Whites were cave men too.

2. Nobody STILL has the guts to stand up to the black man

3. Obama IS an affirmative action candidate.  Many black people only voted for him based on his skin color.  Why else would more that 90% blacks ALL vote for the same candidate when that has NEVER happened before?

4. You ARE a 'tard. (if Obama can say it, I can say it)

Actually, the bone / nose

Actually, the bone / nose comment had nothing to do with cavemen. He was talking to a black female caller. It happened a long time ago, and Rush has said he feels bad about it.

Ok, then let me ask you

Ok, then let me ask you this.  Have you ever seen an African woman wearing a bone in her nose?  I have.  Particularly in National Geographic magazine.  Are those people behind the times?  I would have to say yes.  The lady on the phone was probably acting like someone behind the times.  If a black person told me to get back in my horse and buggy could I claim that was racist? Are African American's ashamed of their native-African ancestry?  If they are ashamed of things like nose-bones, why do they insist on being called "African" Americans instead of just being American's?  If you call yourself an "African" American, you are subscribing to the history of your African roots and many African's wore bones in their noses.  Not too many Irish folks did that.

You're right. Nothing wrong

You're right. Nothing wrong with it at all...

It's probably not right but

It's probably not right but it is the side-effect of growing up with black comedian's like Eddie Murphy that used to joke about traveling to Africa to find a "black b1tch wit' a bone in her nose" (Eddie Murphy, RAW).  Just another reason why black's themselves need to start treating one another with respect.  Otherwise, the trend will continue.  Now if you excuse me, I am going to go listen to some Snoop Dog about some "b1tches and ho's".

mm... My oh my what

mm...

My oh my what excellent points you have made in your last two posts.

Funny how when it's convenient for those on the left everything is okey-dokey to use...until they want to cry racism constantly...all to control power and gain voters.

That's just it!  If some

That's just it!  If some black people themselves can't give up these archaic, disrespectful terms for their own people, how can they expect white people to do the same?  These are stupid saying we all grew up hearing on television, in movies, in music, literature, etc.

I understand what you're

I understand what you're saying, but ethnic comedians have a long history of making fun of their own race.

Rap music, I'm right there with you. Rappers have become caricatures (with a few exceptions).

Thank You Balboa.  I am

Thank You Balboa.  I am glad you agree with me on that.  I downloaded some music the other day for my iPod to workout to at the gym (Snoop Dog) thinking it was just going to have a good beat, rhythm but I was floored by his comments.  I was under the mistaken belief that Snoop Dog was one of the clean rappers because I know he had made some decent songs in the past.  All I can say it: WOW.  Bad stuff.  I am going back to my techno music to workout to.  Forget the rap; it is all bad these days.  Long gone are the good ol' days of groups like "Run DMC" or "The Fat Boys", "Fresh Prince" etc.  Everything now is "N-this, N-that".  Nasty stuff.  Plus, I KNOW BET promotes these "artists" so they shouldn't be talking.

name calling is all you can do

Why else would more that 90% blacks ALL vote for the same candidate when that has NEVER happened before?

Argue with a conservative and you're bound to get some fantasy based arguments.

1. At the start of the primaries, Obama trailed Clinton among black voters.

2. Lyndon Johnson won 94% of the black vote. Obama's black turnout wasn't appreciably higher than Kerry or Clinton's.

Meanwhile white voters before this election pretty much voted 100% for white candidates. But this double standard pretty much passed by you guys with all the blinders you have one.

Whaaat? Do me a favor check the race of all the presidents, before the obama.

Here is another point.

Can't have it both ways

Today’s Americans inherited
the wealthiest nation in history — but only because earlier generations
learned how to feed, fuel, finance, and defend themselves in ways
unrivaled elsewhere.

Lately we have forgotten that and instead seem to expect others to do for us what we used to do ourselves.

Until we change that attitude, we’ll keep borrowing and
spending on ourselves what we have not yet earned — all the way to
bankruptcy.

Reagan VS 0bama

Whaaat? Do me a favor

Whaaat? Do me a favor check the race of all the presidents, before the obama.

I have. They were all white. Which was my point: being white was obviously a very important qualification to get white folks votes, at least until Obama (arguably Jesse Jackson) came along.

Ooooooooo Kaaaaaaaayyyyyy grassy knoll troll.

I realize that you may

I realize that you may think that for the past 200 years not one black person before Obama was qualified to be President, but I'm giving the rest of the people here the benefit of the doubt.

For now.

There are plenty of "Qualified" black, white, asian, etc, etc.., Obama has not yet proved he is one of them.

Get it straight grassy knoll troll.

Sincerely,

a Veteran of a 1000 psychic wars.

Well, let's see here...

One of my favorite quotes is from Dinesh D'Souza, a senior advisor to the Reagan administration..

"I feel a bit like a mosquito in a nudist colony - where to begin?"

Let's start with this quote:

Take that bone out of your nose and call me back.

That was an ill-advised comment.  But it does not say that the (apparently) African-American in question is unqualified for any job.  Furthermore, I know the context to that call, and you clearly do not - otherwise, you would not have chosen that particular quote.  Which, by the way, appeared in the DailyKos a few weeks ago...

It is striking how unqualified [Sen. Barack] Obama is and, and how this whole thing came about with, within the Democrat Party. I think it really goes back to the fact that nobody had the guts to stand up and say no to a black guy.

In this, Limbaugh is explaining that Barack Obama is unqualified to be President.  That idea has nothing to do with the fact that Obama happens to be African-American.  Limbaugh then goes on to point out that Obama overcame this lack of qualification (read: Zero actual experience) with the fact that he was an African-American.  The Democrat party is beholden to African-Americans much in the same way that Republicans are beholden to Christian conservatives.  That is not to say that either group is bad or evil; but it is instructive to know that both parties have their entrenched groups.

...you know, liberals eventually are going to be devoured by their own policies. And it has happened here. Because Barack Obama is an affirmative action candidate. There's no question, the way he is being treated by the drive-bys and so forth and so on. The way he's been puffed up here with the magical, messiah-type message with no criticism allowed.

This comment is much in the same vein as the previous comment - it simply highlights the fact that Barack Obama is unqualified to be President, and that he overcomes this lack of qualification with the entrenched affirmative-action mindset found in many Democrats.  That is not to say that the color of his skin is a detriment in any way - on the contrary, he might not have been elected without it.  It is a tremendous political asset, made stronger by the fact that he never would address it.  That was fantastic strategy, by the way.  David Axelrod deserves a lot of credit for his successful campaign.

Now just to be clear, I hope that America does well under Barack Obama.  I want my country to succeed.  I also hope that it does not swing too far to the left under President Obama - because this country is so successful by reason of the individual freedom it has afforded its citizens for over two hundred years.  I would hope that this President would recognize that, and govern accordingly.

And if not, there's always 2012...

In this, Limbaugh is

In this, Limbaugh is explaining that Barack Obama is unqualified to be President.

No, that is Limbaugh providing no evidence and assuming the black man was unqualified, as the "underqualified minority" is the only type of black man conservatives ever see. Witness the rest of your post for proof.

So it was an unqualified minority on the grassy knoll?

Or was it a black man conservative? What is this about no evidence? And who witnessed the post? Poof. Look smoke from smokeless powder!

Good job grassy knoll troll, stick it to the black man.

Bollocks, I say.

Actually, if you had read the rest of my post, you'd see that I, as well as Rush Limbaugh, say that Thomas Sowell is eminently qualified to do what he does; and in my opinion, would make a fantastic President.  Moreover, I think that Justice Clarence Thomas is eminently qualified to be a Supreme Court Justice - and in fact, qualified to be Chief Justice, if it were asked of him.

You have provided no evidence for your overstated and unfounded claims of conservative racism - which is the only kind of conservative that you, Ragamuffin, are able to see.  Witness the rest of your comments for proof.

Colin Blow IS a Democrat.

Colin Blow IS a Democrat.  Michael Steele was chosen because certain GOP leaders are out-of-touch and thought by selecting a black man they could appease a certain group of voters that would never vote Republican to begin with.

Here are just TWO examples of Rush being color blind: loved Condoleeza and LOVES Clarence Thomas.

Has blocked BET. Does that make me rascist?

yes

yes

No.

It means your TV is a racist.

everyone knows

that CP is a RINO and Steele has not shown any b*lls yet .

" The Future Is X Rated"

Why was Steele chosen as the

Why was Steele chosen as the head of the GOP?

balboa

I could of sworn it is because many folks thought he would invigorate the party.I not a Repub so that is a outside view.I like him myself. He always seems like a straight forward guy.

I only ask because I thought

I only ask because I thought the Democrats elected a complete knucklehead when they got Howard Dean in there, and thought the Dems really suffered under his leadership.

I suppose they thought the same thing, that Dean and all that Deaniac energy would fire people up.

Dean served his purpose

Like him or not.He raise buckets of money and got the grass roots going.I may be mistake but I thought I heard the RNC raised more money in the last two months then the DNC.

I suppose Dean helped that

I suppose Dean helped that way. But any time I saw his name in the news, it was for some stupid comment that really wasn't relevant to anything the party was trying to accomplish.

I would bet that there are more Republican donations now, as the right is definitely more motivated than ever before.

Dean

Was a loose cannon to say the least. That is why the Democratic establishment would never endorse him. Still they weren’t afraid to use him as a tool. He was internet savvy and used it to efficiently build up a grassroots network.Should be interesting the next two years.

He IS the AA president

Obama IS an affirmative action President, no doubt about it. He benefitted from affirmative action all his life, in entry to every school he went to, on every grade he made, on his election to President of the HLRJ, his elections to the State Senate and the US Senate and the President.

If he was a white guy he would have been laughed out of the democratic Presidential primary and Hillary would have won the primary.

I don't believe it is racist to say these things; they are facts.

Did anyone at BET defend

Did anyone at BET defend Michael Steele from all the vicious attacks by other blacks ( Oreo Cookie, Simple Sambo, Uncle Tom etc.) when he was running for the Senate? Did this unknown  "BET staffer" or anyone at BET for that matter chastise Jesse Jackson for wondering aloud "if Colin Powell is really black" because he expressed an appreciation for classical music? When Jeanne Garofalo suggested that blacks who attended the recent tea parties ( and black conservatives by extension ) are suffering from Stockholm syndrome; did anyone at BET admonish Ms Garofalo and explained to her that just like whites and Asians black people - Black Conservatives - are free to embrace whatever political ideology that best suits them, and therefore she should shut to hell up?  The answer to all the above questions is NO!

This attack on Rush Limbaugh is just that, an attack on Rush Limbaugh. Obama Declared Rush persona non grata

and the good folks at BET are doing what's required of them to further his and the Democrat party cause. Attack Rush!

For anyone at BET to even suggest they give a damn about black Republicans, or even black conservatives is laughable.

RMR... Can I have an

RMR...

Can I have an Amen!

I'm with ya...every word you posted it the truth...nothing like the hypocrisy from these people, nothing like double-standards when it suits their purpose/agenda.

Doubling down on stupid is not a particularly good idea. ~Andrew Breitbart

BET has a problem with

BET has a problem with white radio entertainers, why else would they attack Rush without ANY evidence whatsoever.

Shame on Black Entertainment Television for picking on a white man, just because his skin color is different from theirs.  Shame!

HMMMMMMMM

Wonder what hell we gould generate if we started WET. White Ent.TV. Geese we would be sent to prison charged with a hate crime.

I know alot of Black people that have done very well in their lives so I guess you can say the ones that haven't are just lazy.
