CNN's Phillips Argues with Rep. West: 'Are You Saying Gay Marriage Is Not Important?'
On today's CNN Newsroom, anchor Kyra Phillips interviewed Rep. Allen West (R-FL) about several topics. One was gay marriage (video here). West said that it's a states' issue and he didn't want to be taken "down a rabbit hole to discuss things that really aren't that important. This disturbed Phillips:
PHILLIPS: Wait, are you saying that gay marriage is not important?
WEST: I think if you poll the American people, Kyra, I don't think they'll bring up gay marriage as one of the top concerns."
He went on to speak about a troubled small business he'd recently visited and how the economy was affecting it. The anchor wasn't satisfied:
PHILLIPS: I think no doubt people are concerned about jobs and the economy, but gay marriage is a big issue. You were military. Don't ask, don't tell ...
West returned to his theme of economic security. Phillips was still not satisfied, becoming increasingly aggravated and pushed back once again, speaking of millions of gay Americans and states that have legalized gay marriage: "I'm just laying out the facts here."
West's assertion that most Americans are more interested in other issues appears to be supported by a survey commissioned just last month by Phillips's own CNN. The CNN/ORC Poll asked which issue is the most important facing the country today. "Policies toward gays, lesbians" was one of the selections, which were presented in random order. The economy, the federal budget deficit, health care, Afghanistan and illegal immigration topped the results. Only two percent of respondents thought policies toward gays and lesbians were the most important issue.
Yet over at CNN, Kyra Phillips insists it's right up there with major concerns of Americans. She energetically works on advancing a liberal agenda. Can Current TV be in her future?

Under Obama's regime, people want JOBS, not gay marriage
Submitted by Slyrr on Fri, 04/06/2012 - 3:45pm.
He's RIGHT.
Americans aren't gathered around their kitchen tables, clutching their heads and pulling their hair and moaning, 'Why, why, WHY won't they legalize gay marriage?'
They're moaning, 'Why won't they allow drilling to get gas prices lower? Why won't they pass a budget? Why won't they stop spending? Why are they flushing trillions of dollars on solar companies that fail? Why are they wasting their time on gay cowboy poetry when we need JOBS? Why are they erasing us from their job figures and saying we don't exist? Why are they going on lavish vacations and telling US not to travel?
I guarantee in the horror show that is the Obama presidency, the LAST thing on the minds of suffering Americans is 'Oh of ONLY they'd pass gay marriage then we could be happy!'
What's on their minds is, 'When will Obama's stupid decisions put the place where I work out of business, get me laid off and ruin my life??' Note - not 'if'. But 'when'.
To be fair - the MEDIA thinks gay marriage is a HUGE deal, which is why they're pimping it almost every day. So of course this CNN bimbo goes to sleep every night, pounding her pillow and mattress in frustrated rage, screaming 'Why no gay marriage? Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy??!!???!?!'
She's not worried about HER job. Obama and his buddies are plundering our tax dollars and pouring them into failed liberal networks like hers. They're fine and dandy - not a care in the world. Without having to worry about things like being productive, or competent, or useful, theyr'e free to indulge in petty luxuries like weeping and wailing over whether or not every home in the country has a copy of 'Heather Has 2 Mommies'.

She doesn't seem anywhere nearly as interested in heterosexual marriage. At least not for herself. How old are those twins?

Has anyone ever seen Kyra Phillips and Soledad O'Brien in the same room together?
Since when is gay marriage important???
Important to her, maybe, and to the 2% of the population who might be interested in it, but West is right. I don't think this election is going to hinge on the gay-marriage vote.
Anyone ever seen Kyra Phillips and Soledad O'Brien together?

Romney - Always Opposed Gay Marriage

Always Opposed Gay Marriage
"The second part of his statement is clear: Romney does not favor gay marriage. He supports the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) that bars federal recognition of gay marriage, as well as a constitutional amendment to do the same.
As governor of Massachusetts, Romney did everything he could to stop gay marriage there after the state's high court allowed it.
Romney responded to the 2003 Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court decision by vowing to keep the state from becoming, as he put it, "the Las Vegas of gay marriage." At the time, Romney stated: "I agree with 3,000 years of recorded history. ... Marriage is an institution between a man and a woman."
A Second Source
"I agree with 3,000 years of recorded history. I disagree with the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts. Marriage is an institution between a man and a woman. I will support an amendment to the Massachusetts constitution to make that expressly clear. Of course, basic civil rights, and certain appropriate benefits should be available to people in non-traditional relationships. But marriage is a special institution between a man and a woman, and our Constitution and laws should reflect that."
Texndoc: Romney's position seems pretty clear to me. Do you want him to back off that position and just go with the "It's a matter for the States", and just leave it a that? I'm not sure where you are going.

Tex can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he means Romney needs to follow West and focus on jobs and the economy rather than get sidetracked on social issues like this that most Americans find much less important.
Here's where I am going
Submitted by Texndoc on Fri, 04/06/2012 - 5:27pm.
As Mark Levin says, do as Allen West does, Mr. Romney. When the media wants to sidetrack (oh say on the Augusta golf thing and gay marriage) say "I don't want to talk about nonsense when there are 88 million Americans not working."
See where I'm going?

Col West, honest to Pete, he's a REAL man. And you know what Kyra? I'd have to believe gay folks, married or not, are also out of work, and losing their homes. I truly believe the majority of gays consider themselves "American citizens" first, it's only the loud mouth contingency we hear from constantly. Kind of like the War on Women group, they surely don't represent the majority.

C'mon folks start pushing back against these idiots!!!!!
Allen West destroyed her and would not let her push her agenda.
The LSM does NOT want to discuss the economy. Doing so would show how bad Odumbo is for the country. They are doing everything they can to avoid reporting anything that makes him look bad. Why else is the main story's are "The War on Women", Tryvon Martin, Racism, etc.?
It's fashionable today for these Soccer Mom "journalists"

like Phillips and O'Brien and Costello over at CNN to argue with the people they are "interviewing." This isn't journalism and it's not comedy, but it is a joke. West is a United States Congressman and as such he is due some respect - because he is a representative of thousands of people. But because the Soccer Moms have labeled him a conservative, he gets less respect than other members of Congress.
Isn't Phillips being racist

I greatly admire Allen West. But when liberal media hacks like Kyra Phillips bring up subjects like gay marriage, the universal response should be, "Please point out the relevant section of the US Constitution regarding gay marriage".
By refusing to accept the premise of the argument, and instead force the liberal reporter to justify their own position, conservatives can always win these confrontations.
Frankly, I would expect that professional politicians are well prepared for these types of situations. This never would have happened with Lincoln, Reagan or Newt. Sadly, I can't say the same for Romney.
Nah... the response should

Nah... the response should be...
"Sorry, but at the moment my major concern are the millions of Americans who can't afford $4 a gallon gas thanks to Obama, who can't get a job thanks to Obama, who can't afford their mortgages thanks to Obama... THAT'S MY CONCERN -- that and how to get rid of the worst President ever...
And all YOU and your Hollywood friends want to do bring up a fringe issue that exercise the elites far more than most Americans who are hurting out there, thanks to Obama.. don't you get it? This country is hurting and you don't seem to care"

Why not? Do an internet search under "Clarence Thomas" or "Herman Cain". That being said, if anyone can stand the barrage of BS, it's probably Allen West. If he ever runs for national office, he needs to hold a preemptive press conference and put the MSM on notice that he will fight any electronic lynching with extreme prejudice.

Because the LSM would savage him for not having enough political experience. Plus the GOP would look a little hypocritical because that was one of the criticisms of Obama-two years into a term as a senator and he was running for office. But, if West runs in 2016 he has my vote.

I'm happy to find a conservative leader who refuses to let a liberal define the narrative. If only every one of the Republican candidates during the debates and especially during every interview would do the same. Keep to the important issues. Get the message out. Don't ever let the liberals try to morph issues into things that they are not, such as the War on Religion into a supposed "War on Women".
Liberals don't get it...
Submitted by uhohshortsonthe... on Mon, 04/09/2012 - 7:08am.
...gay marriage really is not important. Reason being, a gay marriage cannot produce children (in the old fashioned way). Gay marriage also seems to be reserved for those elite who can afford to piss away money. How often to do hear about a gay couple who live in a trailer and share a 10 year old car? You won't see those people interviewed on TV moaning about not being able to legally wed-they're too concerned about the next rent payment, and praying the car survives the end of the year.
