On CNN Newsroom, Same-Sex Marriage Is The Major Story of the Day

By Mike Bates | July 24, 2011 | 23:33

A possible debt ceiling crisis?  Mass murder in Norway?  Important stories, but today on the 6:00 pm segment of CNN Newsroom, they took a backseat to another story.  Showing video of a homosexual wedding, the program began:

DON LEMON, CNN ANCHOR: Oh, boy, it's a historic day in New York. Same-sex marriages begin. And this hour live coverage as Mayor Michael Bloomberg officiates a wedding between two of his staff members.

Lemon devoted most of the hour-long program to stories of men marrying men and women marrying women.  Less than ten minutes were spent on a potential debt ceiling deal in Washington.  The Norwegian tragedy warranted about four minutes of air time.  There were approximately two minutes devoted to weather, and about two more to covering four other stories, including the death of singer Amy Winehouse.  The National Football League lockout and Tiger Woods firing his caddie each merited two minutes of air time.

The rest of the hour was all gay marriage.  In the interest of balance, Lemon reported on a demonstration protesting same-sex marriage.  That took less than a minute.

He asked a homosexual couple how long they'd been together.  He asked a lesbian couple how long they'd been together.  He aired footage of several different ceremonies, and devoted much of the last 20 minutes to the Gracie Mansion event at which Bloomberg married two of his aides:

LEMON: It's a fine and fancy day in the city of New York and right here on CNN. I feel like I should be wearing my seersucker suit and drinking mint juleps.

You're watching a milestone in gay rights. Today, New York became the sixth and largest state to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

And -- there we go. Come on. We're got to see the ceremony. Come on, guys, get it together.

So fascinating was this marriage that Lemon and CNN carried it several minutes into the next hour.  Finally, it was a wrap:

LEMON: We wish we could take all of you inside for a drink, inside the tent, wouldn't that be nice? But that's Michael Bloomberg. And now officially married in New York City, John Fineblatt and Jonathan Bradley Mintz, two long-time aides of Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and guess what? It was a beautiful ceremony. You got to love a wedding if it's -- whether it's an opposite, couples of opposite -- opposite sex or same sex. Weddings are always beautiful and it's nice.

Maybe, but they're generally not so newsworthy as to crowd out stories of considerably more importance.  Unless, apparently, they so excite the anchor that he wishes he were wearing his seersucker suit and drinking mint juleps.  Oh, boy.

Whad'ya expect from a fag who

Submitted by killa37 on Sun, 07/24/2011 - 11:44pm.

Whad'ya expect from a fag who just publicly came out of the closet - and has his own show on TV??? You think he cares about the economy, or foreign affairs, or the killings in Norway, or.........fill in whatever you want??? No way!!! This guy is gay and he's proud!!! And now he, too, can get married in New York!!!

Gag me....................

I'd say that wearing a 'seer-SUCKER' suit fits this drip perfectly!!!

Oh........I think our own little cretin Governor (and Obama mentor)...Neil Uber-Commie....made a remark recently about the revenue that Hawaii will generate, once we start doing the same-sex marraiges too.

What a vile thing to say..............

And,to tell you the truth, I don't give a rip if they get married or not..........it's so far down the list of important and crucial things that are happening all around us - but , like you say - we get this crap forced down our throats (ooooooh.....that sound like an 'homophobic' statement, doesn' it???) all the time - as part of the lib/Dem/MSM agenda..............so I've got the right to call a spade a spade!!! (ooooooooooh.......was that a 'racist' statement'???)

Even Jer has noted that every poster here at NB has their own "style" of commenting. Nothing wrong with being a bit "animated". And yes I have tried to be polite when asking you to "tone it down". As when I offered to make you a pot of coffee. It is not your "style" of commenting that is disturbing at times, it is your inflammatory language.  You are not a troll until you start "sounding" like one.

Some posters are angry and a right to be so. But certain kinds of language does not belong in a pubic forum.  If I wanted to listen to vulgar profane rants, I will invite my 4 brothers over for BBQ.  I ask that you tone it down since you are not one of my brothers, them I have no choice but to tolerate.

Bon soire te homme.( Good night lil man)

Hey caj...............good

Submitted by killa37 on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 2:44am.

Hey caj...............good evening from an outer island in Hawaii. Thanks for your note and your observations. I appreciate them, and I respect your point of view. But I'm NOT going to try and NOT be myself - for anyone. I"ve been posting on NB for some time, and I enjoy it a lot..........I have a bunch of 'buddies' here, and they know where I'm coming from......and even if they don't agree with me, I'll get over it........and so will they!!

'Inflamatory'??? I wouldn't classify anything I've said as 'inflamatory' at all!!! Hell, if I wanted 'inflamatory', I'd just listen to the libs.
I've never written ONE THING here that I would apologize for......so if it's 'inflamatory', then so be it. I try to post my comments with as much wit, humor, and irony as I can.............but I can tell you that I have a very low threshold for BS and I don't suffer fools well at all..............and we are up against a LOT of BS and a LOT Of fools - wouldn't you agree??? For instance, when I was 'demostrating absurdity by being absurd'- about ol' Donkeyface's comments, you seemed to think that I was having some kind of melt-down. Caj, I'm ALWAYS in control............and I didn't claw my way to where I am by being a delusional dope. I'm no fool............I KNOW what the 'real' world is all about. I've been in the 'private sector' and been self-employed my whole life, so I've got a pretty good idea how things work. And I've had to meet MANY a payroll, and pay PLENTY of hard earned money for other peoples SS, Medicare, FUTA, unemployment, taxes, and a never ending plethora of insurance compliances too!!!

'Profane'??? I read NB every day.........before work and after work ( if I have work!!!). I" ve seen a lot of 'profanity' here, even from some pals of mine!!! I don't think I'm 'profane'..............unless 'profanity' can be described as 'honesty'.........but, again, I know that you have a different view. And, believe me, given what we have to deal with on a day to day basis.............I'm surprised that more people arent MORE 'profane"!!! Maybe you're a little too .............prudish?? But..........I'll respect your views when I am talking to you............I'm not here to agitate anyone........unless they are libs, or commies, or socialists, or racists, or Democrats...........
or even Republicans.................since they seem to have left their 'onions' somewhere too. My dear old dead father would probably back me up on this..........and, believe me, he thought I was a useless 'surf-bum rock and rolling rum-dum'!!!!!

'Angry"??? Caj,. I'd probably be one of the most humorous and off-the-wall people you'd ever want to meet in yourl life. And if I do get 'angry', I don't hold onto it for very long, because I know the poisonous residue that anger can bring. I'm the supreme optimist - and you've got to admit (I hope) that is a trait that is hard to come by these days!!!

'Bigot'??? Listen, I know gays, lesbians, blacks, whites, Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, Samoan, Tongan, Hawaiian, Portugueses, Peurto Rican, Mexican.......................hell........pick anything you want. I'm NOT the kind of guy who judges ANY of these people by WHAT they are...............but by WHO they are. MLK got it right...................too bad his race-baiting lackeys bastardized his whole vision.............and that includes our pathetic President, Boy Barry Soetoro Barack Hussein Obama.

'Troll'??? C'mon, caj..............you wanna talk to my 'buddies' here??? I'll give you a list as long as your arm.........they'll all tell you where I'm coming from........and they might even get on your case for trying to be some kind of 'homeroom monitor'.

But, hey.........it's a Sunday evening here in Hawaii, and I really don't want to get into some kind of flap-jaw event. It's not worth the time or energy - for you or me.
..
Anyway........to quote the late, great Jimi Hendrix (who I saw in concert 4 times) - 'I didn't mean to take up too much of your precious time'....................

Oh.........one more thing, caj...........I'm 6'3"..... 200 lbs...............surfer build - I ride waves that would drown most people. So if you want to call me 'li'l man' in French............then I've got the right to call you 'li'l man in Hawaiian - 'iki kane', OK????

aloha for now,

Killa

Without realizing it, you confirmed several of my points. I may well be a "prude" in your world but in mine I am an elderly woman who demands a certain degree of respect in a public forum.

Your "culture" and style shows in your posts. Hence the Hawaiian and the punctuation interspersed throughout  your posts. I do the same with "cajun" phrases and cliches.  If you would have considered, a comment like "te homme" has nothing to do with your size. It is a sign of affection by an old cajun for a young man.  Give that some thought.

I have asked you several times to tone it down as I have done with other posters.  If NB posters continue to degrade the level of discourse here, we will be no better than many other garbage sites and the liberals can then call us the hypocrits that we would appear to be.

Submitted by killa37 on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 1:41pm.

OK Ms.Cajun.........all is well, as far as I can tell...............no harm, no foul. Oh...........I'm NOT a young man!!! Hahahaha!!! I just think I am........hell, I might be as 'old' as you are!!!

My writing style is .........weird??? The thing is, I can type as fast as I can think - which probably opens me up to some serious needling , as far as my thought process goes. So I think the ........thing is just an automatic pause. Believe me, some people have got on my case about it - but it's a habit allready.

I don't know about confirming your points, but I did try and confirm my own. I don't need any alibis..........I"m always in control, and I do think about what I say, whether it goes over or not - that's another story.

Gotta go to work..........'I've got a country to support' (Red Skelton).

I got yer back brah - we island conservatives are few and far in between - its nice to hear you reflect on what I am thinkin - I am so sick of all the hippie progressives making their way to high office to spread their sicko agendas - representing sicko minorities and not the majority of the people. I was told of how back in the 90's there were hearings held on when some local transplants were trying to force civil unions into state law and how they were shot down (SIC) by the folly of their own words (hearing held here on Kauai southside re: gays are special and all have some kind of special ear lobe etc) - you are correct about Neil the Hippie - how he got into office is beyond me - unless we are to the point of being so overwhelmed by Leftist hippies here in the state. I soon will be watching from the midwest as I am relocating for awhile back home. I will be watchng - carry on ... Shaka!! \nnn/

The argument was not about the position on homosexuality, it was about the language being used. Using certain terms for gay people makes liberals feel we are just haters who have no reason but fear to dislike the attempt to "normalize" homosexuality.

Again, it wasn't a defense of homosexuality, it was the terminology that was being used.

I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to get on your case about it. I was just trying to clarify that there was no defense of gays meant in the post.

We all have different words we're comfortable using and hearing. We disagree on those words. We are going to disagree, but hopefully we can discuss it without calling one another names and getting freaked out, and that is NOT a reference to you. You had a dialogue with cajun without a lot of name calling and screaming.

Again, I wasn't trying to get on you about the word, but I did feel the need to say the disagreement wasn't a defense of homosexuality.

killa,

Submitted by Radical1979 on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 12:48pm.

O.k., I reread my post and put "people" in. I'm not sure of your point there. I'm a person who is against homosexual behavior in that I believe it's abnormal and deviant, but I don't hate homosexuals. But I think liberals try to paint everyone who doesn't want homosexuality normalized and accepted and all that as haters. Which is why I try to be careful in the language I use.

But like other protected classes, it can be hard figuring out what language I'm allowed to use from day to day. :)

One a scale of 1 to 10.......

Submitted by Spoker on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 9:43am.

On a scale of 1 to 10 this issue is about a 1.5 max. It is real and does significantly impact a very small number of Americans. However, it’s nowhere near the most important issue facing the US today!

Meanwhile, we have 10's of millions facing un/under employment. We have a rapidly growing class of permanently unemployed. We have 10's of millions of families being threatened daily. We are in the midst of the worst recession/depression in the last 75 years with virtually no true indication of an end, save the made up MSM PR stories. We are using food crops to supply energy needs so we can leave our reserves in the ground for future generations that in all likelihood will not need, nor desire, them while we artificially inflate the price of food which million are already have trouble paying for. We have national policies that are driving jobs and companies out of the US further exacerbating our employment problems. We have a debt and deficit crisis that is threatening all of our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren while a significant portion of leadership insists on continuing to sell our country to foreign countries so they can buy votes. We have a brewing cultural/religious conflict that is perilously close to spiraling out of control. We are facing a continuing erosion of our basic constitutional rights while being told this is for our own good/protection. And much of this appears to be intentionally created and prolonged.

And while all of this is going on, the supposed MSM watchdogs for the average Joe and Jane tell us that gay marriage is the most important issue we are facing today in order to deflect attention from our real problems in order to support the reelection effort of an administration that is the heart of the problems.

It is beginning to feel like 1773-5 all over again.
