CNN's Begala: 'At Least 10 Percent of Us Are Gay Or Lesbian'
Friday night on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 Degrees, the lead story was on a counseling clinic owned by presidential candidate Michele Bachmann (R-MN) and her husband. Cooper spoke of "allegations that the clinic engages in so-called reparative therapy," described by Cooper as "based on the theory that gay people can be turned into heterosexuals through a combination of prayer and willpower." The host's use of "so-called" set the stage for CNN political analyst Paul Begala to fulminate.
Using the word "crackpot" to characterize reparative therapy no fewer than nine times, Begala insisted Mrs. Bachmann should be interrogated:
BEGALA: She should be asked about this theory. She's a candidate for president. One out of 10 Americans is gay. She should be asked if she wants to lead a country where at least 10 percent of us are gay or lesbian, does she believe in this crackpot, bigoted theory that somehow there's something to be repaired in our brothers and sisters and sons and daughters who happen to be born gay?
Are "at least 10 percent" of Americans homosexual, to use a word that's not politically correct this season? In a word: no.
That figure, long used by activists, has been debunked repeatedly over the years. Obviously, no one can say with certainty what the actual numbers are, but one analysis that gathered data from four recent national and two state-level population-based surveys concluded that about 1.7 percent of the population are lesbian or gay. Another 1.8 percent of the population identify as bisexual.
The research came last April from the UCLA School of Law's Williams Institute, which defines itself as "a leading think tank dedicated to the field of sexual orientation and gender identity-related law and public policy."
So Begala appears quite far afield, as is so often the case. A Democratic consultant, he probably thinks it smart to make every special-interest group to which his party caters appear as large as possible. Still, he should be able to exercise at least a modicum of self-control occasionally.
And Paul, you could use more restraint in tossing around "crackpot." You know what they say about people living in glass houses.

I live in a place where 30% (count'em! 30%) of the population is gay, and I'll swear that I don't know anyone who is as big an a$$hole as Begala. For the most part, they are pretty "normal" except for not desiring critters of the opposite sex, and most are very talented and entertaining. They don't really consider themselves as something to be pitied and protected as most liberals want to frame them. They are who they are, and try their best to live and enjoy it.

That research is certainty not obscure or secret. I remember it being reported when it came out, yet no one on CNN challenged Begala's obviously inflated number that he apparently made up. Being gay seems to be a 'fad' at the moment. I'm sure a lot of people are just saying they are so they can appear 'cool' or 'hip'. Once the fad wears off, what then?

It's not me. Read the gay blogs. In their public statements, they say they want gay rights for the sake of 'equality', 'tolerance' and 'love'. In private, on their comment forums, they let the truth slip out. They boast proudly that 'soon we'll be forcing churches to conduct gay marriages in their temples'.
I'm just saying, if that's their real aim, they're in for a big letdown. Because fornication and adultery will get a gay person on the wrong side of God's judgement just as much as a straight person.
Of course, I'll allow that in their blogs they may be lying. But the scriptures also say 'woe unto the liar for he shall be thrust down to hell'. If gays want to be on God's good side - they must keep his commandments. But if they don't really believe in God, then why should they care what any church has in its doctrine about gays?

In yet another twist, while attempting to debunk the opinion that homosexuals can be "cured", another poster says something to the effect that the reason there are so many 'ex-gays' out there was not because they were "cured", but because these people were not really gay at all. They were really either bi, or trying to figure out what they were to begin with. (I replied "well they weren't exactly straight either, were they?" But I digress...) His remarks are referring to the 85% which are re-offenders: He said most did not have fathers, or had ineffectual fathers, with no masculine role model. Hmm that may explain why homosexual partnerships have statistically much higher assault rates? Also said that the No. 1 cause of murder in prison was homosexual involvement! "Love triangles" cause murderous level of anger... that practicing homosexuals are typically promiscuous and looking for new action. All this in the first couple pages of the article. On the third page (pg. 86 of mag) he says that prison guards, POLICE, and related work has a disproportionately high level of homosexuals that come in with "sadistic or otherwise perverted inclinations." That may well explain the TSA complaints...

It is generally considered to be flawed at best. Kinsey was notorious for not disclosing his methodology and for skewing his conclusions, something that is nowadays considered poor scholarship. Unfortunately, many psychologists and soft fuzzy types continue to cite Kinsey (and Masters and Johnson on occasion) because no one really cares to repeat his research after it has been so heavily discredited in academic medicine.

I worked in many schools with teens, and what I hear of the sex goings on sounds like child abuse to me. Young, prepubescent children are encouraged to declare sexual orientation. I cannot imagine any student I ever knew wanting to discus sex with a teacher.

Now, in an exclusive interview with The Globe, Norma Jean Young, the 76-year old mother of the late Trinity United Church of Christ choir director Donald Young, has spoken out and declared that persons trying to protect Obama murdered her son at the height of the 2007 Democratic presidential primary to protect Obama from embarrassing revelations about his homosexual relationship with her son. Donald Young’s bullet-ridden body was found in his Chicago apartment on December 23, 2007, in what appeared to be an assassination-style slaying.
Some facts:
In late May, Wash. DC-based investigative journalist Wayne Madsen had a bombshell revelation about Obama’s membership in a Chicago gay club, Man’s Country. Madsen also reported on Obama’s sexual relationships with other men, including named D.C. politicians and Donald Young, the openly-gay choir-director of the church in Chicago of which Obama was a member for some 20 years — Jeremy Wright’s Trinity United Church of Christ black liberation theology. Obama’s relationship with Young was confirmed by Larry Sinclair, who claims to have had two sex-cocaine trysts with Obama.
There were two other openly gay men in Wright’s church: Larry Bland and Nate Spencer. In late 2007, as Obama began his ascent to be the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee, in a span of 1½ months, all three men “conveniently” died:
• Bland was murdered execution-style on November 17, 2007;
• Young was murdered execution-style on December 24, 2007;
• Spencer reportedly died of septicemia, pneumonia, and HIV on December 26, 2007.

25 percent of the population is obese. Yet this doesn't seem to stop people from trying th change the lifestyles of the obese. There's "reparative therapy" programs designed to do this, change a basic lifestyle behavior. NO ONE ever claims that it's impossible to change people's eating behaviors. As a matter of fact, most people ENCOURAGE it for the obese. Well, if we can get people to change their eating behaviors, why is it supposedly impossible to get them to change their sexual behaviors?
Let's be real: eating behaviors are far stronger than sexual behaviors, correct? I mean, you can avoid sex for weeks without suffering any harm whatsoever, but try to avoid eating for weeks and you're dead. Yet, despite the inherent strengths of eating behaviors, this extremely song survival component to that behavior, we can, and do, use counseling, prayer, and therapy to change people's eating behaviors. If we can change one behavior by this method, then we can change both.
