Besides incorrectly making remarks about news coverage, Stewart also falsely charged that then-Chairman Pat Roberts (R-Kansas) and the Republicans intentionally delayed the report:
“Obviously, there were some holdups, some script delays, from Republicans who didn’t want this report released to the public.”
But as the Minority Views document makes clear, the report was deliberately held up by Democrats:
“The Phase II effort has indeed resulted in a partisan exercise and requests made by the Democrats of the then-Republican Committee leadership from 2004 to 2006 for the inquiry itself and for unnecessary interviews and documents were clearly intended as roadblocks to prevent the inquiry’s completion and to allow bogus charges of “obstruction” intended to help the Democrats’ political goals. [...]
We find the refusal to include all relevant intelligence and the inclusion of information pubilshed after the delivery of statements to be particularly ironic since in a letter on November 14, 2005, then-Vice Chairman Rockefeller, along with Senators Levin and Feinstein, wrote to the Majority and Minority Leaders explaining that they had “insisted that the Committee compare statements of government officials against all intelligence information prepared for circulation and relevant to the subject matter at issue, provided it was it [sic] available at the time the statement was made.
This appeared to be considered a worthwhile task when the burden of collecting all of the available intelligence form the end of the Gulf War through the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom fell to Republican Members and their staff, but when the Democrats took charge, including only some of the intelligence was deemed acceptable. Perhaps forcing the Republican staff to review over 40,000 documents was just a request intended to delay further publication of the Phase II effort and allow the continuation of charges of “obstruction.” [...]
The only reason we can imagine why the Democrats would not undertake interviews that they had repeatedly requested in the last Congress, is that the interviews were another tactic at delaying the report and allowing more false charges of “obstruction.”
See also Senator Roberts’s Phase II fact check.
Stewart also mocks a 2005 sound bite by Sen. Roberts talking about wanting to speed it up. Obviously, Stewart rips Sen. Roberts’s statements from context:

May I recommend a site for Jon Stewart?
June 11, 2008 - 23:00 ET by jefflebowskiIt's called www.eatpoopanddie.com. It is made for liberal dwarfs like Jon Stewart. What a tool that guy is!
I tried to watch his show once and it didn't even come close to being funny to me.

Big, my friend, I'm going to disagree
June 12, 2008 - 00:19 ET by jefflebowskiStewart is not funny. His is a political show that is bent on promoting the left and disparaging the right. He is like other unfunny comedians like Al Franken, Bill Maher and that loudmouth Jeneane Garafalo. They are meanspirited and deserve the same in return.
I don't know how any of the above can be classified as comedians.
Just my opinion....

Jon Stewart is still funny in my book. But a lot of what adds to my enjoyment of watching him is knowing that he's a total liberal weenie :) I take satisfaction in knowing that he and all his super-hip minions/fans are still not as all-knowing and super-SUPER-hip as I am.
Anyway, his sorry political leanings aside, I still find him to be a skilled joke teller and fun interviewer, but I also yell at my TV when he cuts off any non-lib/talking-point guests.
It's sort of akin to my brother, who at a party can be about the funniest guy (does great impersonations) but he's also a total BDS loon, and loves Nader, et al, thinks our country is evil, radical Christianity is more dangerous than radical Islam, and on and on... but he's still a smart and funny guy (the irony, I know) so I retain a little respect for him.

One of the things I like
June 12, 2008 - 11:28 ET by balboaOne of the things I like about Stewart's show -- besides that it's funny -- is that he has interesting guests from both sides of the aisle, and I enjoy hearing their thoughts and the debates they have. Stewart had an interesting give and take with McClellan recently, as well as others.

June 12, 2008 - 14:45 ET by MrShyWell, when it's a liberal guest, he does a lot of head-nodding and listens patiently and intently. When it's a conservative, he leans forward in his chair the whole time, blatantly chomping at the bit to interject, dismissing whatever answer is given, waiting to jump in with the next left wing talking-point question.
So, when they're lefties you get to hear their thoughts more without much, if any, debating or challenging. When they're righties it's not so much a debate as it is Jon throwing "poignant", lecturing zingers at his guest, one after another... that is, when he let's them fully finish their thought. How fun.

MrShy, I sort of agree, but
June 12, 2008 - 18:38 ET by balboaMrShy, I sort of agree, but I think he cuts answers short when he feels they're heading to non-answers. And he doesn't do it to only conservatives. He was all over Chris Matthews, for one.
That show is unwatchable
June 12, 2008 - 00:30 ET by ApacheThat show is unwatchable anymore. All he does is his snarky preaching and Daily Kos must write the "jokes". It just gets more ironic every day that he once criticized crossfire. But the few times he has a guest that calls him out, then its back to "hey lay off, I'm joking, I'm a comedian". At least his audience doesn't vote. I think it was on this site where I read about a poll that showed his audience tends to be so cynical of politics they don't bother voting. Or just too high. I don't remember. When it was Kilborn’s show, it focused on making fun of the news media and was probably too highbrow for Comedy Central. They probably thought the act Kilborn put on to mock self-important news anchors wasn’t an act. But for a short time, there was a show that made jokes out of the MSM rather than these hacky partisan jabs that MSNBC borrows.
Ahem
June 12, 2008 - 03:20 ET by ChesterBogusActually, I believe they were polls that showed Stewart's audience was better educated, or at least knew more about the issues at hand, than Fox News viewers.

June 12, 2008 - 09:04 ET by ApacheConsidering that libs consider "education" to be how well they know liberal talking points then that might be correct. But the poll I'm talking about didn't cover education but likelihood of actually voting. His audience doesn't vote.

Was that the same poll that said a significant portion of his audience believes his show is a real news show?
Jon Stewart : Mindless Idiot
June 12, 2008 - 00:47 ET by thoridflyWhen exactly did that jackass go from brainless comedy to brainless political commentary?
I guess that's what he's done since day one.

June 12, 2008 - 01:07 ET by Captain RepusStuart is nothing more than a pint-sized Olbermonkey who doesn't throw paper wads. I find him to be sort of like Bill Maher on a good hair day without 40% of his vocabulary being limited to 4 letter words. I suspect his audience is brought to the studio by a charter bus fleet direct from Maher's studio.
Perfectly Accurate
June 12, 2008 - 16:32 ET by the curatorThe links to FOX and CNN you give are print articles that, it appears, were only distributed through the internet.
There were not televised reports... which is what Stewart was referencing.
Of course the "Minority Report" is going to paint democrats in a bad light... its written by republicans.
The full text of the quote doesn't change its meaning in any way whatsoever.
The facts of this story aren't pretty for republicans. But, I don't see them changed by the alleged criticism leveled at the Daily Show.
