Barack Obama promised to elevate the level of political discourse. Some of his apparent admirers didn't get the memo.
Take, for example, this user comment on the Washington Post's 44: The Obama Presidency blog today:
Considering how many people donated small amounts to his campaign, I imagine it would be difficult to find people who couldn't be considered "backers" in some way. I mean one of these guys donated a whopping $250. Yay Matt Drudge! Yay Rush Limbaugh! Way to be more retarded than Palin's down syndrome baby.
The poster was responding to the blog item "Obama Town Hall Questioners Were Campaign Backers." That piece documented that at Obama's town hall meeting, his staff stacked the deck with the president's partisans.
Introducing Gov. Sarah Palin's special-needs child into the discussion shows how low Obamatons can go in defending their hero. I don't know if the Washington Post's blogs are moderated. I do know, however, that the newspaper maintains User Discussion and Submission Guidelines. The very first section states in part:
You agree not to submit inappropriate content. Inappropriate content includes any content that: . . .degrades others on the basis of gender, race, class, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual preference, disability, or other classification
Here's a screen shot of the comment. On the Internet, things sometimes have a way of getting scrubbed.
If the Washington Post doesn't moderate its blogs, it might want to give serious consideration to doing so. In this Golden Age of Obama, his backers obviously feel free to coarsely express their opinions no matter how despicable.

March 29, 2009 - 21:30 ET by GeneralAlThe blogger who put up this post is him/herself an example of intellectual mental retardation! I would like a chance to take these morons to the woodshed for some good old fashion butt whipping! Perhaps if mommy and daddy had spanked these little brats, they might have learned a wee bit of human decency! It is more evidence of the cowardice of the liberal Communists in this country! I agree with you, these commie libs are out of control. You will only be treated with respect if you agree 100% with them. That is NOT the American way, that is the way of the old USSR, Nazis, and other regimes that mass murdered countless millions.
These guys won't come after anybody who can defend themselves, they love abortion because the unborn are the most defenseless innocent. Easy prey is all they have nerve for.

March 29, 2009 - 21:53 ET by andrew - des moinesWhile I usually find NewsBusters does an excellent job in their endeavor to uncover media bias, this particular post demeans this site. Whether a website chooses to moderate its comments or not, these comments can not be construed to represent its views; surely the Washington Post, of all news organizations, has put something out more noteworthy than this. Not to mention, this was a relatively benign comment compared to so many that seep from the leftist cess pool.
The NewsBusters policy itself states, "All comments are owned by whoever posted them and are subject to our terms of use. They <b>should not be assumed to represent the views of NewsBusters<b>"
The left has tried to attack right of center blogs by associating comments with the bloggers to some effect and rightful complaint from those bloggers. Ann Althouse's recent troubles with the JournoList crowd come to mind as a recent example. All you have done is give those on the left an excuse to paint those on the right with the sentiments of their commenters in place of those of the bloggers.
this post demeans this site
March 29, 2009 - 22:33 ET by Mike BatesOne of NewsBusters' aims is to provide constructive criticism. I believe The Washington Post should police its blogs, and that was the point of the post.
Thanks for your observation.
Nothing wrong with 'policing' to an extent...
March 30, 2009 - 03:19 ET by MotherI also post on PJM and they heavily moderate posts much more than here on NB and I don't take that as a 'bad thing' at all. Sometimes a little moderation is in order. I've toned down my own rhetoric. I know I can be a bit of a *knee-jerk* poster. I'm learnin' though. I post as "Delia" over there btw if any of you frequent PJM too. :)

March 29, 2009 - 22:38 ET by cocodrieOn the whole thread most posts accused Present Obama of using his grandmothers death for political gain. He did exactly that.
Two posters accused him of possible euthanasia for political gain. That is a possibility since he is in favor of killing babies after they are born alive.

No Surprise Here
March 30, 2009 - 08:46 ET by rightwingidiotFrankly, the fact that a Liberal blogger at a Liberal site used Palin's child in a derogatory fashion is of no surprise. Nor is the fact that the site didn't moderate out the comment. That's simply another day at the feeding trough for many Liberals.
Some Liberals, no matter how much of a piece of crap Obeyme is, will never give up spewing hatred to whomever might be a threat from the other side. That's modus operandi. Say anything, do anything. That's the kind of candidate they elected so they must be one and the same as him.
I've read some pretty vile stuff from Liberals. They spewed some pretty nasty stuff about McCain/Palin and continue to about any Conservative that stands up to be counted. Again, that's just job one for them.
Even with Obeyme in the WH, they still aren't very happy. They won't be truly happy until Conservatives are either converted to their way of thinking or they're all dead. They don't seem to care either way as long as it happens.
But, until they get a real taste of the pile of crap Obeyme is dishing up they will mindlessly gulp the Koolaid. Even then, some will gladly follow him no matter how far he takes us into a socialistic state. They are non-critical thinkers that can't see beyond the nose on their face.
The real issue is that Obeyme (not him but his armpit trolls Axelramrod and Pluffster) stacked the deck for the townhall. I don't think that's anything new but to deny that it happens(ed) by claiming that you can't throw dart in the USA without hitting an Obeyme supporter is the Koolaider's way of dealing with it. They really don't care, as long as it makes Obeyme look Presidential and puts a new coat of rosey paint on their glasses.
Why is this news?
March 30, 2009 - 09:15 ET by aakaakaakYep, the WaPo doesn't weed out the comments very well. Neither does Newsbusters or a bunch of other sites. Hell, some news shows don't weed out their news anchors very well for that matter. A comment from a single poster on a news site talking about Sarah Palin's "retarded" child is hardly worthwhile. Anger and vitriole reside on both sides of the red/blue line. People say hateful, hurtful comments. Liberals DO NOT have a monopoly on disdainful commentary. If you can't see that then it's not the sand you have your head in, it's up your ass.
...and if Newsbusters is telling the WaPo to monitor their comments more closely they should put their money where their mouth is. This is not news.
Liberals prove it over and

The Left's Hateful Slurs
March 30, 2009 - 09:57 ET by The Smokin FrogIt is amazing, when analyzed together, how many stands, positions and members on the left, are thoroughly against human life. Most of their causes, their junk science, their beliefs, can really be narrowed down to a hatred of human life. Any human being with the slightest amount of empathy would refrain from using the least among us as slurs. The left, from this hateful poster to Matthews, to Olbermann, to the Daily Kos, to most liberal papers and media outlets love only themselves and their causes. Human life is of no value unless it is supporting their destructive causes.
They are to be pitied. And we certainly must fight their causes and politics, if there is anything left to defend after our hater-in chief is finished.

The Rocky Mountain Collegian: Illustrating Idiocy
WRONG!
March 30, 2009 - 12:37 ET by Joe BlogsKudos to WaPo for NOT scrubbing their blogs as the Washington Times wimpily does, now.
I hate a lot of WaPo's commentary, but then I can get lash out about it in the reader's blog. It's a lot of fun sparring with liberal readers, and the exercise reveals some important things, like how many White House officials spend time during their work hours blogging in support of El Capitan. Usually WaPo scrubs if bloggers get too far off the point and begin hurling childish insults.
The comparison to Palin's Downe Syndrome kid is tasteless to say the least. But isn't it instructive for all to see what kind of people defend Obama, and the lows they are willing to sink to? Sheesh.Log on and fire back if you're so upset about it Mikey.
Another good thing about the WaPo is that bloggers can write up to 5000 characters, so you can download short articles from other web pages that normally get ignored by the MSM.
I think the comment is valid...but
March 30, 2009 - 13:23 ET by theduck6for a different reason. I think the article was intentionally wimpy so as to make it sound like "big woopee" to the lemmings of the left. Where were they when Obama campaign money was coming in thru foreign curency exchanges? The flip flop on every issue he's ever made a statement on. This sounds like a faux article to point to when chided for being so in the tank and biased.
I was a WaPo reader but I was frightening the neighbors by screaming at an inanimate object. I have to work harder now to get the news but I get a lot of sides to the story. This sadly illustrates the necessity in the first place. I sometimes have to check to see if they are all writing about the same event.
cancel your paper, turn off the TV and think for yourself.
No Coincidence
March 30, 2009 - 13:59 ET by farstar99It shouldn't surprise anyone that Obama and his abort-agressive socialists are into eugenics and hate the mentally challenged.
They are the Nazis and Soviets of the 21st Century. We all know what both groups did to those they saw as imperfect socialists.
We also know how Obama feels about the mentally challenged. He tore them from their homes without the permission of their families and forced them to vote for him, along with senile seniors.
In Obama's agenda, they are to be used and killed when he considers the time right. Bill Ayers outlined it all in Prairie Fire. They will be killed along with Christians, Jews and any others deemed undesirable by the Fuehrer, Barack Obama.
You can't be nice or civil
March 30, 2009 - 18:34 ET by RR GOPYou can't be nice or civil with these types. These are of the same mold as Ayers and Dohrn...if they think you're an enemy of the Proletariat, that is, you don't bow down and kiss their asses and submit to their self-styled superior intellect, they'll blow your sorry Nazi self up, and feel good about it.
Make no mistake about it. Being a committed Communist is just like becoming a religious zealot. They can do no wrong, and the end justifies the means.
One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 61% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory (yep...approval for Congress now at 39%...do you believe that!?).

March 30, 2009 - 18:44 ET by JerThe comment in question is sickenly grotesque, vile, and truly beneath contempt. But when we've reached a point where an entire blog is devoted to, and framed around, a single despicable comment by a poster on a political website, we've begun skating on awfully thin ice.
