In case you've been in a cave the last few news cycles, it's been widely reported that the Anchorage Daily News, Alaska's largest newspaper, has endorsed Barack Obama. Typical was this from NPR's Morning Edition:
Newspapers have been making presidential endorsements. Republican John McCain won the backing of his home state's largest paper, The Arizona Republic. The Chicago Tribune endorsed Chicago resident Barack Obama — the first time that paper has endorsed a Democratic candidate for president. And Obama received the backing from another paper you might not expect — the Anchorage Daily News. The state's largest newspaper was not swayed by the fact that McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin, is the state's governor.
Over at the Christian Science Monitor's election blog, the headline is, "Anchorage Daily News supports… Obama?"
The newspaper's endorsement of the Democratic candidates can hardly be characterized as unexpected. The Anchorage Daily News endorsed John Kerry in 2004 and Al Gore in 2000. It backed Bill Clinton in both 1996 and 1992, and Michael Dukakis in 1988. Its 1992 endorsement of Clinton began with a familiar theme:
"Change" is about the first word from Bill Clinton's lips at every campaign stop. But Gov. Clinton offers more than just change for change's sake. He offers something this country no longer associates with politicians:
Hope.
As far back as 1976, Time magazine reported:
Unchanged, however, is the paper's willingness to assume unpopular editorial positions; it champions gun control (anathema in Alaska) and stricter environmental protection laws. The Daily News generally supports Democrats and endorsed George McGovern for President in 1972.
That such a newspaper still backs Democrats isn't earth shaking news, despite media efforts to make it appear that way.

Yes, I have heard it before...
I tell you the print msm is not different that the msm...only problem is with AK...you only have so much you can depend on...we would go through this paper, along with our hometown paper in Seward...but I tell you it is same ol' same ol' in Ak. with their leftist BS as anywhere else...TV stations included...
One thing I get sick of hearing in the msm in the lower 48 making light of the citizens of Alaska...as if they are backward hicks...it is more than infuriating...Maddow is a great example using French as something great (in another thread)...give me a break...
We'd have 6.9 earthquakes or better and it was barely mentioned in the lower 48, earthquakes and evacuations at least about twice a year where we lived because of Tsunami warnings in the Prince William Sound...what gets mentioned and twisted is something the leftist loved, like the oil spill, talk about being infuriated with the reports on the news...I still am with the BS that comes out to this day...plus of course we can't forget the poor whales either that were caught up somewhere for days and days years ago now...adn last but not least good old ANWR.
I really gets aggravating when I hear the talking heads speak of Palin being from Alaska as if it is just a backward state...
Give me a break...what the Govt./environs have done to Ak. has been horrendous.

I found the talking heads' knowledge of Alaska and Alaska politics not only woefully lacking, but sometimes completely wrong - on both sides of the aisle.

The Anchorage Daily Snooze
October 27, 2008 - 15:46 ET by UnsaneI lived in Anchorage for three years. Oh, how shocking was it to read this! Fortunately I was sitting down in a chair when I heard!
The Anchorage Daily Snooze isn't fit for the salmon that are caught down in the Kenai Peninsula. I may have read three the whole time I lived there. It was and is a horrible newspaper.

ADN Leftist rag...
October 27, 2008 - 17:33 ET by Army BratI've lived in Alaska since 1956 and watched as the syndicate that owns the ADN used its huge financial reserves to force the TImes out of business, thus silencing the only opposing poiint of view to the liberal left.
The owners have no conncetion with Alaska other than the money they drain from us Alaskans. (Swore thay wouldn't increase rates when the Times died....liars.)
We here in Alaska know the ADN for the leftist rag that it is. They oppose all things that might lead to the development of any of our resources and want Alaska kept in a jar to look at.
No surprise that the anti-gun, anti-hunting, and anti-development in general ADN backs the Messiah...
Has anyone else noted the similarities between Moonies and Obomabots? All things done by "The One", that are clearly wrong headed and bad for America and subsequently revealed by anyone to the public are seen as a plot to stop the rule of their chosen one.
Don't drink the Kool-Aid folks. It's not good for you...

the liberal gotcha media
October 27, 2008 - 17:25 ET by hirogen73the liberal gotcha media wont even veto for somebody in they same state at this time. that is stupid because sarah palin is an outsider and he a maverick like john maccain and they will shake up washington at this time. we need maverick in washington now and now socalist at this time. because i got something in the mail that say obama pals around with terorits and they say that he has them in his own living room at this time. and i saw on tv that obama want to spread the wealth and want to give money to the socalists like in russia.
they probabley just want sarah palin to loose at this time so she will come back to alaska and be they governor again. they like her to much for her to move to washington, right. lol
ADN?
