Just when you think mainstream media people can't stoop much lower in their final stages of Palin Derangement Syndrome, they plunge to new depths. Suzy Shuster works as a sideline reporter for ABC Sports. She also blogs at the Huffington Post. Her most recent contribution is,"Say It Ain't So: Trig Palin's Post-Debate Photo Op." She describes what irritated her most at last night's vice presidential debate:
It actually came after the debate, when for seemingly the millionth time, Sarah Palin trotted out her piece de resistance, her favorite prop of this campaign season: her five and a half month old son Trig. Why is this child up so late every time there is a camera op? Why isn't this baby sleeping in a crib or bassinet somewhere with a sleep sheep or some other sound apparatus lulling him into night-night? Is it just me or does it seem like she carts this poor child around like a living breathing example of how wonderful a mom she is? After all, she's more than adopted the "I'm just a mom, just like you moms out there, America" attitude.
But the truth is, if she was just like all you other Moms out there, America, then she'd know the best thing she can do for this infant is to make sure he is tucked safely in his bed and out cold at eleven pm. And please don't say well, maybe she doesn't have anyone to watch him. Believe that, and I've got a Bridge to Nowhere that I want to sell you.
Shuster isn't the first to challenge Palin's parenting skills and motivation. Last month the publisher of Harper's Magazine made the same accusation that the baby is used as a political prop.
Naturally, Shuster's post was received by HuffPo readers with a rash of comments critical of Palin, references to "white trash," and other statements that you'd expect from open-minded liberals.
I can't claim particular expertise on the subject of when a baby should sleep. In my experience as a father and grandfather, though, it seems to me babies keep their own schedule to a great extent. I'd be most reluctant to judge other parents harshly because their baby isn't asleep at 8:00 PM or whatever hour has been designated as the requirement.
Moreover, there's little doubt that some of the liberals so critical of the Palin baby's schedule would have preferred that a special needs child be aborted in the first place. Their open-mindedness can only be extended so far.
In last night's debate, Joe Biden made a point about not questioning an opponent's motives. Shuster and other mainstream media figures have no problem doing exactly that much of the time.

October 3, 2008 - 13:26 ET by TyromacAnd if she didn't have Trig with her they would complain that she isn't fulfilling her motherly duties and we would hear all about the lack of necessary bonding, how critical it is that she is with her baby especially because he has special needs, how she should have aborted him because she doesn't spend any time being his mom anyways, etc. Can't win either way.

October 3, 2008 - 14:20 ET by TyromacMy comments are few and far between, but I'm a regular reader of the site. Some topics make me "delurk" more than others and going after family/children is one of them.
I was worried about last night, but I thought she did great, especially in the aftermath, when there is time to go through all the BS that came out of Joe's mouth (which I'm sure to libs out there sounded brilliant at the time, but they are used to eating it by the shovel fulls and asking for another helping). Couple of slips for her, but overall did what she needed to do and more. I think she connected with a lot of people last night.

October 3, 2008 - 15:03 ET by Indiana JoeGood for you! Yeah, some things you have to stand up for, which the libs don't seem to understand. Witness their "scorched earth" attacks on Palin. Kids, family, job, sex, they don't care. Shows them for hypocrites, IMO, and why don't more people see it? Drives me bonkers if I let it.
I find this a great place to vent and feel like I'm not the last sane man sometimes. I haven't done much posting or visiting on other sites, but the ones I have been to don't begin to compare. Posts are organized excellently, the home page is user friendly, and I find more real debate and discussion than on most others. Any mods or eds reading, well-deserved kudos for NB, with gratitude. Nice to know you're out there keeping up, Tyromac. You're part of our "silent majority," maybe, which is heartening. I can't help but feel we're reaching some critical point in the culture war, and need all the help we can get.

October 3, 2008 - 13:30 ET by motherbeltIt's just so sweet to see a liberal, who probably has no problem with a 6-month old being in day care for 10 hours a day, suddenly concerned that a baby isn't being cared for properly.
Babies pretty much sleep when they want, wherever they are. During the convention, Trig slept through his mother's speech. Would he have been better off in a crib than in his sister's arms?
Michael, you hit the nail right on the head....they would have aborted him. And that's probably why they are "springing to his defense" now...out of guilt.

Earth to Suzy Shuster: Babies are not books
October 3, 2008 - 13:37 ET by Lame CherryI would like to thank Suzy Shuster for finally explaining how inept liberal are in they confuse babies with non living objects.
Letterman thinks you cover children with latex when they leave the house like a jello salad and they don't get prego.
Suzy thinks you just toss little Trig on the baby shelf so the family can all go out and see the debate as Trig is like a book you just pull the batteries out of and he goes to sleep.
Perhaps Suzy would like the Palin family to just pick a babysitter in St. Louis for a special needs child so Suzy then could accuse them of abandoning their baby and exposing Trig to abuse.
Liberals, here is some information for you. Babies are little humans like you. They are little humans in the woman from conception and not "tissue". They actually are loved by parents like Sarah and Todd Palin.........who love them so much they actually don't get careers to get away from their kids or stuff them in front of television like your parents did Suzy.
Sarah Palin actually feels more comfortable having her child with her like most mothers than dumping them off on others. I know Suzy that you like the idea of producing a child for a click on your list and then having Bill Clinton pay for it in taxpayer welfare in pre school to publich school so you don't have to raise the child, but Sarah Palin actually loves her children and wants them with her.
Sarah Palin understands liberals that children are people.
I know this is difficult for Suzy to understand, but just because you liberals hate your children and want to be shed of them, most mothers actually love their children and work to have them around as much as possible.

Suzy, a couple of points for future reference...
October 3, 2008 - 13:52 ET by c5then1. Babies don't get a 'schedule' until they are about 8 months old, some later. Until then, they tend to be awake and sleep on a rotating basis every couple of hours or so.
2. If you get the baby used to sleeping in environments where there is noise, they don't need absolute quiet to sleep and will pretty much sleep through almost anyhting.
3. Most moms would rather have their infant with them, if at all possible, than being 'watched' by someone else. Especially important if they are breast feeding.
4. The debate was held in St. Louis, so that is central time zone, and the debate was done at 10:00pm. Also see #1, above.

The MSM criticize Governor Palin for taking on the burden of raising a Down-Syndrome
child and then criticize her for not offloading that burden onto someone
else. The only way they would be happy would be if she had aborted Trig.
I think the real problem as to why a lot of people have this sort of gripe
against Gov. Palin is that they probably would have had abortions if they had
been in Gov. Palin's position. I think these people feel that by Gov.
Palin not aborting Trig, she is somehow criticizing them because of their
predispositions to abort such children. But the fact of the matter is
that Gov. Palin is just walking the walk of a true Christian and is in no way
casting judgment on them. I think these people's consciences are bothering
them, they don't like it, and they’re taking it out on Gov. Palin.

Granted, he's a little baby but Mom won't have to say "we were protecting you", but she will be able to say "look at you, right there next to Mommy when I was first in the history books." (That said I'm sure she's just as proud of Bristol, but having her go about her regular business out of the spotlight is the kindest thing she can do for her right now so she doesn't have to have those horrible close up pictures of her belly that some in the MSN were highlighting.) I think part of Trig being part of the gang also is so in your face and why some of those so called feminists hate Sarah. October 4, 2008 - 00:02 ET by tomchrisJust think it was over 24 hours ago and the meme was that a desperate housewife plucked off the street to be V.P. would embarrass herself and McCain on national tv. So after the debate, what's Shuster's best shot- that Palin hold's her baby too much. Wow. That's about as devestating as being hit with a paper dart.

October 4, 2008 - 00:46 ET by Captain KirockThis woman is so incredibly stupid.
Aside from being a completely uselsss sideline repoter, did it ever occur to this numbskull that the Palin family live in Alaska, which is in a different time zone? By my count, the debate ended at approximately 6:45PM Alaska time which is not very late by anyone's standards.
Doesn't Simpleton Schuster understand the concept of time zones? Or is she still stuck on trying to figure out how a jock strap works?
Bottom Dwellers

Lawyers of the world can finally breathe a sigh of relief because they are no longer the "scum sucking bottom dwellers" they once were, that distinction nows goes to the "Liberal Media".

October 4, 2008 - 11:53 ET by GOPG8RThis kind of stuff makes me sick. It's why I stopped reading and commenting on Jezebel. The media has gone absolutely crazy regarding Palin and her family. It's ridiculous. Trig is a baby who obviously sleeps well regardless of where he is. My special needs child was the exact opposite - we couldn't take him anywhere b/c of the constant screaming. Had he been a quiet baby, I'm sure we would have taken him to movies or out to eat ... I just wish they could find a way to leave her family out of it. Of course, that would mean they would have to find some class somewhere ...
