CNN's Dobbs Chides CNN's Cafferty

This evening on CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight, the host expressed amusement at something he'd heard earlier today on his own network.  Ironically, the source of his merriment was a question posed by anchor Jack Cafferty on CNN's The Situation Room:

JACK CAFFERTY, CNN ANCHOR: Polls indicate the race is tightening. CNN's latest Poll of Polls showing Barack Obama leading John McCain now by just a single point, 45-44 percent, down from a three-point lead yesterday. And down considerably more than that from a few weeks ago.

While Obama was on vacation in Hawaii, McCain had the stage pretty much to himself. And then one bright, sunny morning, the Russians rolled into Georgia and John McCain was in the cat bird seat. Also, some of McCain's negative ads, those Paris Hilton and Britney Spears celebrity spots, seem to have resonated some with voters. It looks now like McCain made inroads with some members of the Republican base with his interview at Rick Warren's church.

All of this creating a problem for Barack Obama, who has gone out of his way up to this point to run a pretty positive campaign based on the issues, and for the most part, has chosen not to get into the schoolyard kind of stuff that characterizes U.S. politics. He may no longer have that luxury.

Obama is now out with some hard-hitting TV spots that are running in local markets in some of the key battleground states. He spent $400,000 just last Sunday to run two negative spots on McCain more than 600 times focusing on the economy and McCain in places like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Florida.

These new ads are complemented with a tougher tone out on the stump, where Obama is going after McCain for saying that Iraqis would greet Americans as liberators and for challenging Obama's patriotism. Some Democratic strategists say Obama's aggressive tone reflects the reality of the race and that he should have gotten tougher sooner.

Here's the question: In light of the tightening polls, does Barack Obama now have to go negative against John McCain?

On his program, Dobbs introduced CNN Congressional correspondent Jessica Yellin to do a piece on Obama's increasingly aggressive attacks on McCain.  She completed her report:

YELLIN: Lou, on a conference call with reporters that I was on this afternoon, one of Obama's top surrogates accused John McCain of practicing dishonest gutter politics, her word. Apparently the campaign is saving the harshest attacks for Obama's surrogates so the candidate himself can appear to stay above the fray -- Lou.

DOBBS: Oh we've never seen that before, have we, Jessica?

YELLIN: (INAUDIBLE)

DOBBS: I love -- well there was a question on this network earlier today whether or not -- asking whether or not viewers believed that Senator Obama should go on the attack to improve his standing against Senator McCain. The implication being that he hadn't already. I found that amusing, if I may say. Thank you very much, Jessica. Jessica Yellin.

Dobbs is right: the implication that Obama hasn't forcefully assailed McCain is absurd.  Cafferty - similar to MSNBC's Keith Olbermann but without the personality - apparently seeks notoriety with his fashionably "progressive" statements, no matter how ridiculous.

Now, even CNN hosts are snickering at you, Jack.  Better dust off that ol' resume and get it over over to MSNBC pronto.

The first Olbermann-Cafferty interview

The first Olbermann-Cafferty interview will have more animosity, petty comments, and vicious speculation than the actress' bathroom at the Oscars.

more animosity, petty comments, and vicious speculation

Those lads can come up with that just by talking to themselves.  Trying to drown out those little voices in their heads of course.

Lol-sorry, but I'm riding a rather large smart-ass wave tonight.  :-)

-Has to do primarily with the two empty-suits who will be opposing each other come November.

Whatever have we done as a nation to deserve this?

empty suits

Seems to me one suit is quite a lot emptier than the other, and would make disastrous SC appointments.

Dave---

"Whatever have we done as a nation to deserve this?"

Just some possibilities--

Dropped prayer at school--

Had major corporations fund gay and lesbian activities

Had P-- ant judges find against parents and for administrators and teachers who want the kids to learn of anal and oral sex in elementary school. They actually arrested parents who protested.

Failure to set term limits.

Chamber of Commerce and employers greedy for peak profits.

No God anymore

Religious people (priests, ministers, etc) misplaced compassion and giving away America, actually violating our laws with impunity.

And--this will not be well received on NB, but a really horrible administration that is open borders oriented and profit friendly to the Cof C and businesses that hire illegals. This has amplified the attitude--I want to get mine and I don't care who I hurt to get it.

I could add more but it's bedtime and I would be up all night.

Whatever have we done as a nation to deserve this?

Misterbill purty much summed it up, except he forgot to mention 35 years of lip service to being the Pro-Life party while 50,000,000 babies were killed.

doesn't hurt my feelings

but as a conservative I suppose that's a contradiction in terms.

I am so disappointed with Dubya's second term I could spit. Doesn't mean I want a Marxist for President...or a RINO either but any third or forth party candidate will only insure the loss of the candidate closest to their end of the spectrum. The margins are just too close.

Frankly, if blacks in the US would give it some thought, they could make their presence a more powerful force by at least listening to the right and stop this monolithic, nearly sycophantic devotion to a party that has taken them for granted for soo long. They get short changed and come back for more. All that's really happened is that they've been addicted to free hand outs. Hmmm, didn't the self appointed black leaders of past decades accuse republicans of actually addicting inner city people with drugs. Of course no proof was offered or is ususally required from the left.

In the words of Yogurt from Spaceballs

"what a woild...what a woild!"

"To not vote for a person because of their skin color is no more racist that voting for that person for that reason alone"

misterbill, so essentially, we have peed in God's Corn Flakes.

I agree.

Lesser of two evils...guys.

...always has been, always will be.

Reagan did amnesty.  Remember?  And if you could wave a wand and make all illegals go away,  the economy would go into an instant tailspin.

Slow down the out of control rate of border jumping. Yes.  Walls in some places. Yes.  Strong employer sanctions. Yes.

But we also need to make it easier for those who we want and we need (like in agriculture) to come here and add to the melting pot.

Parker

Reagan signed off on amnesty with assurances from Congress they would plug the dike. Congress lied.

But I'm OK with plugging the dike now and slapping back each and every felony, drug abuser/seller, or violent misdemeanor arrestee, from now till Doomsday.

I don't see a need to send them all back, but with a fence we could cull out the rotten apples

Ever notice

Didja ever notice how all of these MSM talking heads cannot bring themselves to refer to our President of the United States as "President Bush"? They either refer to him brusquely as "BUSH" or "THIS PRESIDENT" or "THIS ADMINISTRATION". They just can't stand it.

Wel-l-l-l-l I've got some news for everyone and I am unashamed of it. IF PRESIDENT BUSH WAS RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION TODAY, I WOULD VOTE FOR HIM AGAIN!!!!

Here we have a man that has protected this nation from further attack now for practically 7 years. Additionally, EVERY RESPONSIBLE person who would have occupied the oval office during this sureal time, with the knowledge that was available, would have attacked Iraq, under fear that Sadam Hussein would have passed WMD's on to the terrorists. President Bush chose to sacrifice his entire legacy to be safe rather than sorry. Additionally, the Afghan people were liberated, which the MSM and the lefties (whats the difference) have conveniently forgotten.

Left to a leftist administration, our economy would have collapsed entirely after the events of 9/11.

Yes, second guessers, a lot of things could have been done better over the last 7 years, especially if President Bush had not been totally immersed in the defense of our nation (which is what the government should be doing by the way). AND for the sake of national security, it will be years before we are ever made aware of the numerous threats and potential attacks that we were saved from.

A lot of the reasons that the dems took over congress was because us Conservatives lost our nerve and deserted the President while he has been under fire. That is also a lot of the reason why we are under the biggest threat that this nation has ever faced AND THAT IS the threat of the election of an outright socialist to the presidency, a congress controlled by socialists, a socialist MSM that will eliminate freedom of speech and the potential loss of all kinds of freedoms and a supreme court that will destroy the Constitution of the United States of America.

President Bush, I apologize for the lack of support that you have recieved from about 1/2 of my Conservative friends. They have 20/20 hindsight which takes the path of least resistance.

Apology to President Bush?

President Bush, I apologize for the lack of support that you have recieved from about 1/2 of my Conservative friends.

I believe one reason many conservatives are so unhappy with GWB is because of his refusal to veto huge spending bills.  He's used the veto less than any president since Harding, a man in office for less than two and one-half years.

Dubya went along to get along.

I admire him for some of the enemies he's made, but that's not enough.  He didn't do enough.

Ditto Bates

And he tried to sneak a few million illegals with an Amnesty Package.

On the other hand, a big plus for Mr. Bush is the quality of his SC appointments, which I should have mentioned before.

Amen to that

Roberts and Alito are definite keepers.

And I don't care what Obama says, Thomas is top notch.

Just realized something. Both were raised by their grandfathers, but only one gave due credit in their autobiography title.

what Obama says

Maybe Barry thought of Gramps as just another typical white person.

Ouch

Maybe you're right. All he did was rescue a bunch people from Auschwitz, I mean BuckyBall, or something like that, but he remembers it clearly.

10-4 & 10-4

10-4 & 10-4,;But, on another topic there was a pretty heated discussin of Hagee and his view of what happened to the Jews leading up to the holocaust. I could see the U.S.A. sufferin a similar fate(as the Jews) because in the meantime this country keeps turning away from God, moral corruption continues to spread and worsen, and the unborn continue to die every day.

Defining criticism of

Defining criticism of Obama's political views as racist is pretty much gutter politics that Obama has been engaging in thus far to cover up his inexperience and radical ideas.  I find it amusing that now that Obama is being exposed for who he really is as a weak liberal politician the msm is having a cow and desperation is setting in as the spin becomes more and more absurd.

Free

That's the skinny on it. OOPS!

I ♣ my seal

Sorry, Cool

Barry can use "skinny."  You can't.

Mad Money

Does anybody remember the MSM saying Ross Perot was trying to buy the election? Does this sound like anybody else?

B. H. Obama, maybe.

Buying votes?

Nah, that's just "street money."

Bates, the vernacular!

I think they call it "walkin' around money"

I think Norman Hsu could get him in touch with a few Olympic Dishwashing competitors in New York.

I ♣ my seal

Walkin' around money

Looks like either's acceptable; the cited newspaper article uses "street money".

OK Bates

I knew that but, but down South, the colloquialism is "Walkin 'round money"

I ♣ my seal

OK, Cool

Glad we got that squared away.
