It looks like ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos isn’t the only one affected by his Clinton Foundation donation scandal. His wife, author and actress Ali Wentworth, is cancelling appearances to promote her upcoming book Happily Ali After and Other Fairly True Tales.
Tweeting excitement just days before her scheduled appearance on Bravo’s goofy-barroom late-night show Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Wentworth bailed at the last minute, forcing the show to find a replacement. Her excuse? She wanted the interview to coincide with the launch of her book on June 9, not because of her husband’s recent scandal. Sure. If that were the case, why did she accept an interview prior to the release of her book?
For what it’s worth, Cohen and Wentworth are said to be friends, so it would’ve been a softball interview anyway, however, the show does take calls from guests, so who’s to say if someone would actually ask what many reporters do not – in addition to the formerly undisclosed donation of $75,000 to the Clinton Foundation, just how deep in the weeds was Stephanopoulos with his former boss, Bill Clinton?
And Mrs. Stephanopoulos might be reminded by her husband of his dirty-pool arranged call into President George H.W. Bush on a Larry King Live interview on CNN with days left in the 1992 campaign.
After all, he was part of the Clinton machine during the 1992 presidential campaign and was in daily contact with “important” Democrats in 2009. It’s really not all that shocking that he made the donations and has kept in close contact with his former boss, but he’s a “journalist” and they are supposed to be unbiased! Given his background and close connections, he couldn’t be counted on as being a fair reporter from day one. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure that one out.
The title of Wentworth’s book almost makes you wonder if the "Other Fairly True Tales" part was written by Stephanopoulos himself, given his track record of telling half-truths and his biased reporting.
Actually, the book came to fruition when Wentworth was at home watching Good Morning America whose guest Lena Dunham called Stephanopoulos a “sexual icon.” This spurred Wentworth into believing if she’s married to a “sexual icon,” then by golly Georgie should be married to one too! So begins the tale of her yearlong transition from a frumpy housewife into a “sexual icon,” thanks to the help of some hair color, botox, makeup, hair masks and “throwing some bleach” on her mustache. Come to think of it, a better title for the book would be Ali in Wonderland.
