Open Thread: Revealing Secrets for Popularity

Liberals insist that they, too, can be trusted with national security matters and yet we keep seeing reports like this where sensitive materials are being leaked--not to help America's enemies but to gain popularity for the White House, in this case, accidentally revealing to the media about a double agent inside Al Qaeda:

White House efforts to soft-pedal the danger from a new "underwear bomb" plot emanating from Yemen may have inadvertently broken the news they needed most to contain. At about 5:45 p.m. EDT on Monday, May 7, just before the evening newscasts, John Brennan, President Barack Obama's top White House adviser on counter-terrorism, held a small, private teleconference to brief former counter-terrorism advisers who have become frequent commentators on TV news shows.

According to five people familiar with the call, Brennan stressed that the plot was never a threat to the U.S. public or air safety because Washington had "inside control" over it.

To liberals it's all about politics

Submitted by c5then on Mon, 05/21/2012 - 11:55am.

They have shown, and very recently, that they will use whatever means is necessary to gain them a political advantage with the general public. Even if that means exposing an ongoing intelligence operation and putting a double-agent's life at risk.

Whereas, conservatives are more likely to use whatever means is necessary to protect the country and forgoe any political advantage if needed. During the last administration there were many many operations that were successful that have not been made public and SMK and other catured terrorists were NOT put on trial because the discovery and the defense would expose operatives both present and past and put their lives in danger.

This is a VERY different way at approaching things and stems from the world view of the individual.

If one checks the timeline on this whole thing,

Submitted by UpNorth on Mon, 05/21/2012 - 3:09pm.

the sudden admission about Baracka's love of homosexual marriage had nothing to do with that, and everything to do with covering up the leak of this info by Brennan, and by extension, the White House.

Brennan did his Ooops!! moment on May 7.  Obama "suddenly" decided he was in favor of gay marriage on May 10.  He knew that his announcement would absolutely destroy any thought of covering Brennan leaking that which shouldn't have been leaked.  And, with the crowd who are supposed to report real news, it worked like a charm.  Any thought that Baracka blew an ongoing intel op for polictical purposes was blown right off the front pages by the joy brought on by the idea of him embracing gay marriage. (My apologies for the images that last sentence may have conjured up).

To re-elect Obama would be like the Titanic backing up and hitting the iceberg again.

wake up,the GOP under Bush fell asleep on 9-11

Submitted by lrgon on Mon, 05/21/2012 - 8:17pm.

Richard Clarke warned Con-dee Rice about al-Qaeda threats and possible terror acts and she sloughed them off as inconsequential. Clarke got the impression when he told her about al-Qaeda that she had never heard of the terror group.

When Operation Able Danger was in full swing and these army counter intelligence agents were practically tripping over al-Qaeda operatives, and long before George W. was reading from a 3rd grade fairy tale, FBI agents were being told not to arrerst, not to confiscate and not to do a damn thing to stop these future hijackers! Frustrated agents Robert Wright and John Vincent were screamed at not for wanting to arrest the very same al-Qaeda operatives that DID hijack one of the airliners that slammed into the Twin Towers!

That Republican bloggers and posters are worried about Obama's foreign policy and his ludicrous domestic policies is reasonable. But Bush fell asleep at the wheel and warnings from FBI field agents on the heels of al-Qaeda went unheeded. You don't think that stinks? Apparently not since so many GOP fans "miss" Bush.

How sad that once a GOP fan is chumped he remains a chumped fan despite the facts to the contrary.

Average citizen who reveals intelligence-gathering sources and/or methods earns an all-expenses-paid, free-meal-plan, extended stay at one of the luxurious Club Fed Resorts, like for instance Club Fed @ Leavenworth, with free gym privileges included.

Option exercise programs include an outdoors free-weight course in transforming large rocks into small landscaping rocks.

webcaming his gay roommate making out with another dude, then ultimately killing himself. What does that say about the mental state of the homosexual? Admittedly, I know next to nothing about this case, but on the surface and from what I've gathered in the last few minutes, it seems that the gay kid had some pretty serious internal conflicts going on if he'd take his own life over what we're all being told is normal, loving behavior.

How can this be?

Not too shabby. Binky Braveheart went into it here. You have to have something pretty screwy noggin-wise going on to commit suicide in the first place. But to lay it off on an 18 year old doing something really stupid is really low.

His brother claims it is not him. In another post I saw they compared the tatto. Funny thing was they matched. I don't know if you Dersowithz (?) on Huckabbe Saturday night. He laid out the reasons the DA should be charged in this case. Brought back memories of the DOOK lacrosse players and former Durham County DA Mike Nifong

"Amateur"?

Submitted by deadeyedan on Mon, 05/21/2012 - 1:01pm.

Given that the term amateur implies a lover of something and is not necessarily derogatory, why wasn't the new book on Obummer called "Amateurish", which does connote bumbling?

Thought I'd ask.

Could be for an underlying reason...

Submitted by c5then on Mon, 05/21/2012 - 2:05pm.

Maybe a secondary purpose of the book was to imply that only "Professional" politicians should be elected to "important" offices?

Amatures aren't necessarily worse than professionals, it's just that they don't get paid for it or maybe do it in their spare time. The 1980 US Hockey team was definitely made up of amatures, yet they beat the unarguably professional Soviet Red Army team in the olympics.

As my tagline says, I am in favor of having nothing but amatures run the Federal Government because if they are amature politicians, that means they have to be professional at something else that matters and will be able to make better decisions.

The shoelace bomber almost blew up a plane. The underwear bomber came close, too. Who knows how many others were also intercepted?

Who knows how many more would have been intercepted if the New York Times had not blabbed about the secret U.S. program to track down and interrupt Al Qaeda financing outside the U.S.?

Matching Slogans....

Submitted by Pilgrim1949 on Mon, 05/21/2012 - 3:45pm.

Newspaper cartoon circa 1960s/70s had NTY reporter talking to Pravda reporter.

NYT report says, "We have a slogan: All the news that's fit to print."
Pravda reporter says, "We do too: All the news that's printed fits."

Sounds like the NYT has loooooooong ago adopted its soul-sister publication's motto, as has the MSM in general.

What has happened to my state? Can I rightfully blame Obama?
First it's a food Nazi in an elementary school in Raiford and next comes a social studies teacher having it out with a student by telling him he can got to jail for speaking ill of the Chicago Jesus. I imagine you have seen this by now. It is not only the that she said that but the fact she was screaming at the student. We need to find this student and give him an award for know current events better than a college educated teacher.

Submitted by cajun2 on Mon, 05/21/2012 - 9:15pm.

Just intuition. Japan holds as much of our treasury as does China. But this way, China does not have to look at interest rates from Wall Street but rather negotiate with the government. Japan will have to pay more than China, especially if we are downgraded again, Japan will lose money. This also gives Obama another by pass of our capitalist financial process, more power and control to him to make us hurt more and make his friends richer.

Because everything Obama has done has decreased the power and wealth of the U.S. As you said, he bypasses legitimate means of doing thing whenever he can, which is often since no one in government ever challenges him.

I don't know what will be left of our republic after four years, but if he's in for eight years, nothing will be left.

Doing it this way, he answers to no one. China already has treasury bonds over a trillion. Can you imagine how much of our country he can give away in the next 4 yrs and we wont even know???

Instead of folding like Greece and Italy, China will just "foreclose". Not a shot fired.

Am I getting paranoid or is Obama getting easier to translate?
