Now that Barack Obama is going to be president, what should the right do now?
Beyond the recriminations, what positive active steps should be taken? Post your thoughts or link to others with interesting remarks here.
Fundamental changes are needed to how conservatives and libertarians do things now, not just at the politician level. What changes would you like to see?

When they do things like those I've mentioned, they win. And it was crucial that McCain win, because it will take a long time for the nation to recover from the damage Obama will inflict upon her.

Misunderstanding
November 5, 2008 - 03:15 ET by MindwerkzI have heard quite a few libs already claim that its no big deal. To them this is like a football game where you root for someone but if they dont win you just try again. I really dont think they get that this is a big deal. We are still suffering under the "temporary" social programs from 80 years ago and the warren court. Like McCain or not, a vote for obama is a vote agenst the country we had this morning and for something radically different in a very marxist way.
Oh, to us libs it really was a big deal
November 5, 2008 - 14:30 ET by Morgan WickHalf a city block was effectively blocked off late last night here in Seattle by revelers. I was taking a bus home when all of a sudden it had to stop for several minutes while a massive group of people were marching up the street in the other direction. Oh, and that bus ride was free - because someone had given the driver a $100 bill to pay for everyone's fares. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. It wouldn't have been anywhere near as wild if the Seahawks had won the Super Bowl.
This was no "football game" for us. This was all about making sure we wouldn't "suffer" for another "80 years" from the destructive, "temporary" Bush policies. This was all about making sure we kept someone we believed - we knew - would be the equivalent of Bush's third term, the Stalin to Bush's Lenin, out of the White House and started undoing the damage done to the Constitution and the planet, and everything else. Honestly, even if Obama is a Marxist I'm not sure he'll be able to do any "damage" in four years because he'll be too busy repairing the damage from Bush.
(I'm informing you of the point of view behind this, not prosletizing or however that's spelled - "gee whillikers, clearly the schools are failing us"!)
Most of Obama's staunchest supporters will probably never vote for a Republican again, at least for a while - but for some, that's only because the Republican brand was irreparably damaged by eight years of Bush and six years of one-party rule. For this election, the Democrat's policies were less important than the fact he wasn't Bush, and more importantly, didn't have an (R) next to his name. But many of us - the Obamob, if you will - will hold Obama and the Democrats, the people we just put in power, accountable for the next two to four years, and if they turn out to be Bush's third term or attempt to turn us into the Soviet Union, we won't stand for it.
The liberals that have shown up in this thread may not appear to care, but they care very greatly. It's just that for many of them, they don't blindly support the Democrats in everything they do - they've just been driven to that point by the last eight years and now is the time for them to step back from the brink. You might even say they put their "country first".
Of course it's a big deal

I am going to post this
November 5, 2008 - 06:03 ET by USA4freedomI am going to post this again.
Back in 2006 I truly sent this letter to every e-mail in the RNC food chain that I could find. I send it to all sorts of people in talk radio. I sent it to think tanks. I don’t know but this seems to me the only way, with the school systems and collages the way they are, the main stream media, and our own politicians.
The message of conservatism NEVER gets out. When that happens THEY, the Democrats define us...
Maybe its just me, maybe it’s a stupid idea, but to build a base, you have to believe. In order to believe you have to hear why our way works best. This country would not believe this snake oil salesmen if they understood the basis of conservatism, liberty, individualism, capitalism, small government, a strong military, very little entitlements (explain that, when one part of the populist has to pay for another part of the populist how its not fair) (I can't believe we even have to do that). Or how because you went to school, worked your ass off, that someone else is NOT entitled to your money. That it is NOT selfish to reap the rewards of YOUR OWN LABOR.
I spent almost an entire day sending and researching who to send this to. In the end, not one living soul e-mailed me back. Now maybe, it’s the dumbest idea that has come down the pipe, but.. for the last two elections, running to the left, and spending money to lose has not worked too well either!! Unless you can find a way to get around the road block of the MSM, and education, you will NEVER WIN. Not to mention, a good chance of losing talk radio, the message WILL NEVER GET OUT.
An open letter to the R.N.C.
Educate Via Ads
I strongly believe that the RNC and/or conservative groups should advertise. The ads must be run well in advance of the political season. I strongly believe that this advertising should be simple, attractive, and upbeat. These ads should quote from the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the writings of great Americans. These ads should celebrate important people and events in American history, the ad should present the real facts about big picture issues, (the economy, the family and immigration) and reveal the truth behind common liberal rhetoric (e.g. government spending = tax payer dollars). The government creates no wealth, just redistributes it. Our citizenry needs to understand that “Free health care” is not FREE.
The left plays the envy/race card with: “tax cuts for the ‘rich’”. The ‘rich’, the top 50% of the population, pay 96.54% of the taxes, and the top 1% pay 34.17%. Americans value fair play, and the fact that we over-tax the producers and reward the non-producers goes against our country’s most basic beliefs.
These ads should not focus on narrow policy debates or highly controversial issues (e.g.,capital gains tax cuts, abortion), but should be aimed at promoting core conservative values of limited government, private property, free enterprise, personal responsibility, strong national defense, and patriotism. The ads must be rigorously nonpartisan. Any open party affiliation will undermine the integrity of the message. Cultural and political transformation, not partisan point scoring, must be the touchstone. The ads must have a website attached for further information.
Both parties spend 10’s of millions on ads at election time. Don’t wait until election time. Educate the citizenry about true conservatism before election time and you won’t have worry at the polls. Conservatives are working at saving our nation. Ronald Reagan will NOT be riding in to save our country. Why not use what he did best? Go straight to the people over the head of the MSM and teach them. How can you hear the line: America, the shining city on the hill and not feel proud to be American. Or, how can you not have a tear in your eye when you hear the line: These are the boys of Pointe du Hoc. Americans -want- to feel good about their country. You will be making converts for life. We are not selling people/candidates, we are selling ideas!
It can be done with advertising.

Limbaugh/Coulter in 2012?
November 5, 2008 - 01:38 ET by dodecahedronWhen Gore barely lost in 2000, the Dems went farther to the left with Kerry. When Kerry lost in 2004, they went farther left with Obama. Obama won in a landslide. Maybe Republicans should find candidates from the far right (hence Limbaugh/Coulter although I'm not serious about that).
I don't think there's anything wrong with Republican values, just that our candidates won't stand up for them. We also keep letting the media frame our issues. We need conservative candidates who aren't afraid to stand up for conservative values. We also need candidates who aren't afraid to confront media bias head-on.
Hold on dodecahedron
November 5, 2008 - 09:13 ET by cvgbuckeyeYou have it nailed.
1. You cannot out-democrat the democrats.
2. You can't out-liberal the liberals
3. You can't out-give-away-programs the dems
4. You can't out-lie the MSM
5. You can't out-white-guilt-racism crying the dems, libs, MSM
A. WE CAN OUT-TRUTH THEM WITH FAMILY VALUE, TRADITIONAL, CHRISTIAN, PATRIOTIC, SHINING CITY ON A HILL, CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPLES.
B. We can never again allow the MSM to pick our candidate.
C. We can never allow ourselves to be Bob Doled or John McCained again.
D. Republicans must learn to quit bringing a knife to a gunfight while the dems bring a gun to a knifefight.
E. We must quit whining about a biased media and instead, go out and destroy them by crushing their pocketbooks. (Guess who controls all the purchasing power in America? It sure ain't the people that voted for Barack Hussein Obama).
F. We must take back the influences on our youth from the schools, universities and MSM and put it back in the family home where it always belonged
G. We must react with a vengeance when we are called racists instead of diving for cover like cowards. We all know who the racists are; they are the libs who believe that minorities cannot make it on their own and they must be forever supported with social programs. Think Matthews, Olbermann, Couric, etc.
H. We must start all these things today and not wallow in pity for 1 day.
Lets make sure that a free, unbiased MSM is restored in America and that we return to being One Nation Under God.

I think that Sarah Palin will do just fine. I am reluctant to say that Sarah comes from the FAR right. I would say that she is just plain RIGHT! Has there been any news
November 5, 2008 - 01:42 ET by Carl KolchakHas there been any news reports from Ft. Sumnter this evening? I thought Fonda and Company said a Civil War might breakout.
In regards to what the right should do, I thought McCain's speech was pretty good. There is no sense in pouting or stomping your feet. I think we'll just have to wait and see. I'll hope for the best. I'm not going to lose any sleep this evening. My guess is once Obama and Biden get briefed they'll see that there are serious threats out there, and they will have to deal with them. The enemy isn't going to care if it's a Dem or Republican in office, they'll still be hateful towards the US.
Ah, but the enemy does care
November 5, 2008 - 01:58 ET by zfAh, but the enemy does care whether a Dem or Repub is in office, because they know they can walk over Dems and get away with more. Witness the 70's vs. the 80's.
If Biden and Obama have to be briefed to know there are serious threats out there then already they are a problem. That's something everyone already knows. As for them taking threats seriously, why should they? Carter and Clinton didn't.
Well they could protest and
November 5, 2008 - 02:22 ET by Carl KolchakWell they could protest and not let the Olympic Athletes not compete in the Olympics like Carter, because we all know that will really show the enemy. I think there are certain things for the President's eyes only, that they'll get briefed on by Bush that will probably open their eyes. I don't think anyone wants another attack on the US, and if it does happen the enemy won't care if it's a Dem or not. The thing I would say that I would be most worried about is this Civlian force that he talks about. If this takes off, and these people in the Civilian force are armed, then I would be very worried.
Today is the 5th of November, and I think we'll just have to wait and see what happens after January 20th.
I haven't read this book, but it is on my to read list and sounds pretty interesting.

Obama Presidency Open Thread
November 5, 2008 - 01:44 ET by PeterWe should churn every stock in which there is a significant gain. Pay our capital gains taxes and hope to outlast the Obama Presideny and its confiscatory taxes.
I predicted a couple years ago that the next President would be a one termer. This was before we knew who the likely nominees would be. My reasoning was simply that we were due for a serious economic downturn. Usually Presidents who preside over economic disasters don't gain a second term.
One upside to this is that four years of the second coming of Jimmy Carter it should keep democrats out of the Whitehouse for another dozen years.
I hope you're right
November 5, 2008 - 08:13 ET by Seabeach4348I really do, but with a liberal socialist Congress which gained power last night, the Snake in Chief will meet little resistance if any. He's got a carte-blanche for at least two years, and he can do a lot of damage in that amount of time.
It will take a long time to reverse the damage the Obama Administration will implement.
And to reverse that we will need a conservative who truly believes in conservative values....and with a conservative Congress....both with the guts to reverse the bad policies and decisions.
I can only hope at this point.
I don't think that it is as
November 5, 2008 - 08:36 ET by SRPwrdI don't think that it is as bad as the 95th.
That's a beautiful but incorrect thought
November 5, 2008 - 13:27 ET by Conservative BluesIt doesn't matter what the economy does in the next 4 years because it will still be George Bush's fault. Remember the economic slowdown that began a few months after GWB entered office? He hadn't been there long enough to cause anything, yet the media still blamed him. Same thing with 9/11. Slick Willy had the chance to take out Osama and stop the attacks. He didn't and the media blamed GWB.
Nothing will stick to Obama because the media will deflect all criticism and the sheeple will follow along as he leads them over a cliff to their destruction.
Ecclesiastes 10:2 - "The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left."
Nothing
November 5, 2008 - 01:49 ET by Gat New YorkRight now conservatives should not do anything but regroup, think long and hard about its mission, and reorganize.
The demographics have changed and continue to change in this country, and new ideas need to be developed by conservatives. Reliance on the Reagan Revolution today is not relevant. In fact many young voters were either not born or too young to know who Reagan was. While the principals of free market economics and small government are relevant it is in desperate need ot rebranding.
Regarding Obama, the best course of action is to let Obama make whatever decisions he wants based on his own beliefs and then watch them sink our economy and our position in the world.
The one thing that should be most concerning is the media. Journalism really is dead. The MSM has dropped any pretense of journalistic integrity and became a mass propaganda machine for Obama. Add to that The Fairness Doctrine and we will be seeing the censuring of conservative thought or any discussion that opposes Obama. During this campaign we have seen the freedom of speech come under assault. if you spoke harshly about Obama for whatever reason you were branded a racist. If you questioned the Chosen One your personal life was investigated and reported in the media. This has gone well beyond simply media bias and we should be concerned about where this will go after January.
Regrouping is good.

I also disagree to some
November 5, 2008 - 08:17 ET by TD in FLI also disagree to some extent. For the GOP to even have a moderate chance to win, they needed a moderate conservative - which they got with McCain. Regardless, it did not matter who the GOP put up, they would have lost. It was in the cards from day 1. This election was about electing the first black President. It did not matter what his record was, what his plans were, this election was about making a statement that a black man could become President. This was the story the MSM fell in love with and touted. This was the story that drew in record numbers of black voters who previously did not vote. Congratulations America, we have proven the world that we put anyone in charge of America. In the end, America will have one hell of a hangover from this party and we will know exactly who to blame.
When I listen to people talk about how Martin Luther King Jr's dream has been realized, I can't help but show my disappointment of their own ignorance. King wanted an America that did not judge a man by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character. This election was all about the color of his skin. King's dream has not yet been realized, but the ignorant will think it so.

November 5, 2008 - 02:05 ET by iveseenitallYou've hit the nail on the head. It is, perhaps, the saddest part of this election that those who made the ultimate sacrifice have been so disrespected by an ungrateful nation. I cry for them and their families. As for "journalism", it is truly dead in America. I, for one, will stop watching the "news", except to check the advertisers, so I can boycott them. Every t.v. news show sickens me.

THE UGLY PALL ARRIVES
November 5, 2008 - 06:55 ET by reelman46THE UGLY PALL OF SECULAR SOCIALISM ARRIVES
The
biased lefty network media get their man, get a sock puppet
no-achievement radical socialist backed by angry haters of America. The
Republicans squandered the 1994 legacy of reform and conservatism with
the help of silent sign-a-bill-get-a-long spender George Bush. The
dense Republicans just had to “run another Dole”, another insider
another old man, another mush mouth middler…they knew best. They had
choices.
Moderation has its price when confronted by political thugs. The
unbridled carnage of the secular socialist beast will be evident.
The terrorists and thug dictators are dancing in the streets while
the informed know we are in for another Jimmah Carter. The country
suffers greatly under socialistic create dependency programs. The
damage via judges and the absolute lack of common sense by liberals
will cripple both the economy and the spirit of Americans. A monster
federal govt, punishing taxes and secularism are the formula for any
country’s decline.
The kook-aiders will not be any more moral or ethical or
hardworking, just more demanding that they be cared for with another’s
money. Life will get no respect as secular values are forced upon the
nation.
Excuses will be made as the radical socialism is imposed without
reason, just intentions that will again fail as they always have.
The year 2010 will be the last chance to stop the decay of a nation infected with the culture-killing secular socialism.
Ask the Cubans here how wonderful it is under Castro. Many Obama voters will be quite sorry for quite a long time. I am already.

November 5, 2008 - 01:54 ET by Dan The Man 2Now that Barack Obama is going to be president, what should the right do now - Get stone blind drunk. In the long run we must learn how to spread the message. I pray the Obama Presidency will be a one term nightmare. I am not sure what will happen as the future looks glum.
Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.
Dan - you already saw Obama
November 5, 2008 - 08:26 ET by TD in FLDan - you already saw Obama lower expectations during his acceptance speech. He said something to the effect, "...it may take longer than a year, or two years, or one term, but this change will come." He is basically saying that if nothing changes over 4 years of an Obama admin, then re-elect him because change takes time.
The sad thing is, I believe he will receive a pass during his first term. The MSM infatuation will continue, while a few outlets (FoxNews, blogosphere) will be critical, but fall on deaf ears. Any lack of progress will be blamed on the Bush admin. Additionally, he really does not have much that he can be held accountable for. Think about it, what actual proposals did he tout during his campaign? The $250k+ tax thing is one, but beyond that, there were very few specifics... more generalities and vague stances. There are very few things that he could go back on his word on and be called out on it because he didn't promise much substance, just "change" in general. I seriously believe he will have the easiest Presidency possible. While I don't wish an International disaster on anyone, I feel that is the only possible way the tide could turn on him assuming he bungles things up.

TD
November 5, 2008 - 10:04 ET by ahusserI generally agree with you, since he really didn't promise anything but change. How can you disappoint. I think we are getting change but not the kind that we want.
You will really see how the wind is blowing when he picks his cabinet. and his first official act as prez. (remember Bubba's: allowing gays in the military). His very election has already destabilised the Middle East. The middle east could be a huge problem for him as the muslim despots feel they now have a friend in the white house and will test to see where his loyalties lie. (remeber even the idiot Biden said as much). I am sure Israel wants to know where he stands and some assurances for a continued staunch alliance. If Obama goes from ally to Israel to just neutral I think all hell will break loose and the Israelis are no stranger to pre-emptive strikes. Iraq will also be thrown down the crapper like South Vietnam was. Look for a US withdrawal and a protracted civil war like Lebanon. Carter initiailly destablilised the middle east with the lack of support for the shah. We reaped the whirlwind on that one. I also forsee a rise again in domestic terrorism. The right wing militias will again rise especially if Obama attempts any suppression of 2nd amendment rights or other depredations. There also will be concerted attacks on big oil and coal. Stealth taxes for radical environmentalism and global warming BS which has quieted down during the election.
Should be an action packed few years the likes we havent seen in 30 or more years.

November 5, 2008 - 10:10 ET by motherbeltAccording to Drudge, he's already offered Rahm Emmanuel the Chief of Staff position.

November 5, 2008 - 10:16 ET by ahusserI'll have to check out this rahm emanuel person. I am sure the background info will not be promising. I don't know if he is lying or not about the financial crisis but he sure is ignorant if he believes this looks anything like the great depression. The scary part is you can pass a lot of "emergency" legislation when a great deal of fear is generated.

Stand true to your values
November 5, 2008 - 01:56 ET by RpeggioI don't think Republicans, Conservatives, Moderates, Libertarians etc. need to cower or regroup per se. I think Americans simply need to hold Obama's feet to the fire, to follow-thru on the Change and prosperity and all that other gooey goopy stuff he promised....clearly he can't live up to those promises and the god-like teflon stature too many folks assigned to him, including the MSM.
So I say we stay strong and hold to our core values, bend to be bi-partisan where it makes sense, but speak loudly and argue against any far left junk that he tries to sell us.
I personally think it'll take about 2 years for some of his ardent and blind followers to wake-up and begin to see him for the generic liberal politician he is. I also think he'll upset many far left folks as he leans to the middle quite often... he's no Clinton centrist, but I think he's pragmatic and wants to be loved by all for legacy reasons....and that will mean more leaning to the middle which will lose some of his far left bomb throwing followers...which is fine with me.

November 5, 2008 - 01:59 ET by d1carterMatthew:
Some random thoughts; we have got to do something about the MSM. It is not healthy for the media to pick candidates and elect POTUS.
We have got to get young voters back to the Conservative party. I have a freshman in college and he drove home to vote for the first time today. He told me as we drove to the polls he felt he was going to cast a vote that was for a loser. His campus was all abuzz about Obama.
We have got to use the internet more. Raising money and communications. That may take some serious money but we have to have our Moveon.
A younger, more attractive candidate at the top of the ticket. Old white men may not necessarily be the one.

The Democrats knew this.
But most of all, the MSM knew this! Which is exactly why they forced McCain on us.
And believe me, I get no pleasure from the knowledge that McCain was hoist on his own petard. He trusted the media, he thought they loved him, and they screwed him over. They used him to get their guy in, and he never saw it coming.
What worries me most is that we can expect NO responsible journalism in the future, as the MSM all climb over each other to suck up to the the new BMOC. (Big Man on Campus for those of you not "of a certain age" LOL)
Their climbing has been,
November 5, 2008 - 08:12 ET by dmntd1Their climbing has been, and will continue to be, well rewarded. The potential Fairness Doctrine will be the best reward they can get. Closing down information gateways that don't agree with them, creating new 'fairness' positions on various shows.
Only the most blatant bias will be 'seen', which means most of the bias this site points out won't be. The subtle bias for which the MSM is known, at least here, won't be enough to get them in trouble.

I wonder how Libertarian
November 5, 2008 - 02:08 ET by GameGridI wonder how Libertarian candidates did tonight? You can't find any info on those right now.
But as conservatives, I think this loss will naturally make those who thought that the moderate path would be the way to victory stop and think and next time we can remember that when it comes time to start picking people.
We do not need to 'change' conservatism - simply return to it. The fundamental principles can be adapted to modern situations easily. Smaller, less intrusive and fiscally responsible government that respects our liberties. In Utah we had a candidate do just that, the guy who replaced the RINO Cannon and he won big tonight. But we do need to work at articulating our message better because as we have seen, the media is going to always work hard to twist what we stand for into something else.

November 5, 2008 - 10:20 ET by AJI agree. There needs to be another party based entirely on well-grounded conservative values. I've been pretty damned pissed off at the slow sliding of the Republicans to the left. If no new party is formed, we'll soon have only liberals (republicans) and very liberals (democrats) running running for office. We'll end up turning into Canada or the UK. So much for the representation of all points of view.

Sarah is the future of the GOP
November 5, 2008 - 02:21 ET by Travis NoodleThere, I said it.
I was voting for McCain because he was literally the Republican's last, best hope. Romney, Huckabee, Thompson were all pretty good choices but weren't visible enough.
One thing that always bugged me about McCain was it seemed like he never "got it." He didn't seen this election as an idealogical fight. He saw it as just another election. I was shaking my head when he said that we shouldn't be afraid of Obama as President. I thought to myself, "wow this guy doesn't get it."
McCain has never campaigned
November 5, 2008 - 02:32 ET by bpjamMcCain has never campaigned as a Republican. Ever. He has always been a 'maverick' which is just dandy as long as you don't have to worry about having a party apparatus behind you and getting other House and Senate member elected. But if you are running 'as your own man' and leaving everybody else wearing a GOP jersey standing around holding their johnsons, then you are a freaking disaster.
And we can see the reason that the democrats crossed over in our primary to vote for McCain to help him become our candidate - because he was the least Republican candidate the Republicans were fielding.
In real life, there is no such thing as a 'unity candidate' or a 'non partisan candidate'. All that is BS because there are two parties when you get the D.C. and they are in a zero-sum game. One wins because the other lost. There are only so many seats and so many offices and nobody shares credit when they can take the credit themselves and get ahead.
McCain spend more time in the last decade playing on the other side of the field than he did ours. Once he became 'our' nominee, he wasn't even familiar with who the hell we were and what GOP voters expect to see in their candidates. One thing they expect is that their candidates won't take off the table an issue like Wright or Obamas promise to tax coal out of existence.
But what do I know??? I've only been a Republican voter my entire adult life!
McCain seemed broken...
November 5, 2008 - 07:40 ET by LockeanLadyMcCain seemed like his spirit was broken before the debates even started. This is a man who sacrificed everything for this country...the least of which was 5 years of his life, his marriage, his health....everything. Then he sees everyone in the media, hollywood and 50% of the country fawning over this man who represents EXACTLY the priciples he fought against. Exactly the priciples he watched friends die to preserve. I can't imagine the despair he feels. But it makes a rock in the pit of my stomach just thinking about it.
The ingrates and idiots have certainly "changed" America. Into what? Only time will tell, but it won't look anything like what the founding fathers had in mind and it won't look anything like what so many men and women have fought and died for.
Short on Substance - Long on Style
November 5, 2008 - 11:06 ET by HoosierEmThe people who buy their lifestyles on credit and have embraced the mantra that it's better to look good than to feel good fell for the candidate who is the exact same way. They picked the pretty candidate, the smooth talker, the person who has style but is short on substance. They seem to think that their parents and the other "rich" people in this country should provide for their every want, need, and desire.
There are eventual consequences to people who live and feel that way and in the end it catches up with them. Unfortunately, it's our country that's going to be paying the price.
Democrats never met a tax dollar they didn't like.

Charisma Wins Always
November 5, 2008 - 02:50 ET by TangoUniformGuys, relax. This is an American Idol election. We (R's) didn't learn a thing when we nominated Bob Dole. This for the most part is a repeat of that election. No disrespect for both of these fine gentlemen vets., but we have to look for candidates who are telegenic, smooth, and not on Social Security.
It has been my contention that since JFK and Nixon, the more charismatic of the two candidates ALWAYS wins. Most people aren't smart enough to vote issues. You have to get the media as a R. to not hate you.
Charisma and 2012
November 5, 2008 - 04:21 ET by easygoerExactly, TangoUniform. It is such a youth and beauty dominated society. It's all about image. I believe Palin is a quick study who will bone up on the issues and become very formidable. The MSM knows this, which is why the media tried to destroy her; they fear her; it's the only preemption policy the MSM ever supported. I predict Palin will beat Obama in 2012. Palin, as VP candidate, might not have pulled as many women votes as Republicans had hoped for. But nobody votes for VP. But with Palin at the top of the ticket in 2012, and as the first possible women to be elected president against a failed Obama presidency, that will change. The bloom will be well off Obama's rose by then. As much as I respect Romney, if the Republicans (knowing the changing demographics) turn to another rich old white guy who couldn't even beat McCain; then Obama, as bad as he may be, will be reelected. In my view, it's either Palin or Jindal. I like them both, but Sarah's better, and although she didn't go to Oxford, she's just as smart. She's also more charismatic and photogenic, which as you point out, matters. Just my 2 cents.

The way I see it, you kooks owe us eight years. Barack Obama is not

Bush Haters for the last eight years? Simple. We are going to crucify
your guy (FIGURATIVELY, not literally, Secret Service) with a smile on
our faces, not blocking traffic in major cities, rioting etc. We are
still going to hold down jobs, make this country work. Unlike you, we
are still going to shower. We are still going to go to work in our
offices and our communities; not go to therapy for Post Election
Selection Trauma etc. Why? Because Republicans, unlike you Bush Haters,
don't look to people in elected office to make the most of our lives
and the ample opportunity the blessing of being Americans affords us.
You see, we may lose elections, but for us, that is nothing more than
an inconvenience. For Democrats like yourselves, losing elections is
the end of life as you know it. Government, for you, is the end all-be
all. For us, its a pain in the ass."

"Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy." - Winston Churchill
Well let's just all be Obamazoids in fundemental change then
November 5, 2008 - 03:09 ET by Lame CherryMr. Sheffield, your question is that Conservatives have to change the fundementals. Fundamentals MEAN the principles which TRUTHS can be derived from.
So you are advocating CHANGE like a certain messiah that Conservatives are to change their political and all things they do now base as you conclude Conservatives did not work when it was socialist John McCain who did not work nor liberal GOP types.
That means you are advocating a polar opposite of Conservatism which is Marxism.
The first step to take is to stop waving the white flag which has been going on this site for weeks in using liberal talking points from Mr. Sheppard to the questions above which relate that there is a problem with Conservatives. (Note your poll that the right was let down by the right.)
Second step is to recall Rush Limbaugh's analysis in you do not change. You WIN.
God doesn't change or you end up with the devil. America does not change or you wind up with a dictatorship. You wife doesn't change or you end up with some other guy sleeping with her.
To explain this to the Newsbusters editors and readers who do not quite get what happened is this:
Stupid children who are liberals, existing in fear, wanted George Bush to hit someone after 9 11. It took too long before their nap was done, so they wanted someone to sing them a lullaby and tell them it was not their fault and they could then go play and be irresponsible.
Children are stupid. That is why adults in Conservatives do not listen to them nor change to be like them or you end up getting murdered.
One does not ask a 5 year old how to deal with Zawahiri. One instead if the teenager flips you the bird and goes racing off to play with Ahmadinejad.........you let him and all his ignorant ilk.
You let rulers rule instead of govern.
You let them become the malevolent idiots they are.
You let them take full responsibility.........and just like in 2007, Nancy Pelosi quits doing a thing because she is terrified of taking responsibility.
Americans are going to be once again big game now just like under Bill Clinton where he allowed that a few hundred Americans murdered each year by terrorists was acceptable.
As terrorists murder in Democrat cities and Democrats are always mucking about vacationing in the 3rd world, you allow them to die as that is their aborticide choice.
You allow the liberals to draft children and let those children die in Obama wars as this is what the theft of the Presidency allows.
You allow these stupid children to figure out that dead is dead, the nation is bankrupt, that their jobs are gone from liberals and you let it all implode so these stupid children get spanked by the real world.
If John McCain wants to play wet nurse to Obama, by all means Mr. McCain please join in the Obama implosion. This Conservative kept their word that if you chose a Conservative woman that they would do all they could to assist your winning. Keeping that word, you are now a looser who did not take off the gloves early enough and you are equal to socialist George Bush who has been sitting on his Karl Rove butt not unleashing the DOJ on Obama and his criminal cronies.
Your financial and political succor was from Conservatives and you betrayed Conservatives again. Now be gone as the adults have work to do.
A gleaning is being set up in this world where real wars are about to be initiated. Amerika or Obama's vestage will be a pariah state as it is moving to deal with terrorists now.
Cause and effect is the first effective lesson. TODAY Libya which was in the US camp has now gotten back into bed with the Russian navy. The Black Sea Fleet now has a port in Syria and Libya, thus controlling the Suez and American links to the Israeli state and Egypt, along with North Africa.
It now behooves the Israeli secularists to blow up Iran or convince George Bush to strike them for their survival as if the Jews wait, they will have a nuclear exchange with Russia included as Obama abandons them.
The dominoes are set and rocking. It does not matter if Obama is indicted and Hillary moves in as the scenario has started.
What to do? One does not publish the Conservative game plan in dealing with liberal agendas on Newsbusters where Obama will know which breaks to set up to thwart it.
For the record, I started setting breakers a week ago to prepare for this. I fully intend to allow these thieves to butcher Africa, rape the third world, start their wars and enslave America.
I desire those 30 million border busters now to be given full citizenship so they take union jobs as that is what unions demanded in helping Obama steal the election. I look forward to the 30 million latino march just like in the 3rd world burning down DC, LA and whatever else the mob of democracy does with all festive water cannons and bleeding police.
Obama's worst enemies are Democrats and himself.
So what if John McCain turned into not half the warrior his wife is. so what if conjob right wing types betrayed the Reagan movement to this utter Bushonian defeat. Our center has collapsed, our flanks routed just like incompetent Barry Goldwater was, and the brier patch is where we retired because that is where Conservatives were born and live.
Conservatives are in thee perfect position now in this in cutting the refuse, being on God's side and not the fray and the incompetent will be fodder or knife each other in their darkness.
Liberals have informed me in my America that I don't belong. Wonderful I reply as when their Amerika goes up in nuclear smoke in a new 9 11 or they demand my children or change to fight their wars, I'm not going to save them this time.
John McCain wants to jump on the Obama rat ship sinking, he should heed Milton Friedman in giving Rumsefeld hell for tax breaks that made price controls look like they were working, "Let the world implode and then the people get educated about what works and what doesn't".
People would not listen so let them feel the pain.
John though, leave your wife on the docks with the Conservatives as she proved her worth as did Gov. Palin. As the world implodes America can use leadership as those two women have.
Semper Fidelis Pax Americanus Ordo Pax Americanus.

Leadership
November 5, 2008 - 03:20 ET by Mike2112Leadership...we have none. To get beat by a Junior Senator with no accomplishments save ACORN is truely embarrasing.
To win back some of the seats lost in the senate and the house we must start now. It must be a national effort on the part of the RNC. They must go back study the '06 an '08 elections and reclaim those voters in key districts that have lost their minds.
McCain offered no Coattales to those running in the senate or the house. But did it matter or not? Probably not. But the party must reembrace the conservative base, expand the party by converting moderates and conservative democrats into Republicans.
Both McCain and Obama stood for nothing. Obama just did it with style and McCain was just another old white guy.
Living the good life
November 5, 2008 - 03:50 ET by Rackie"It must be a national effort on the part of the RNC." Yeah right!
Life is too good for these guys to rock the boat. They just rearrange the chairs and life goes on. The voters, on the other hand, take elections way too seriously.
I hope the conservatives are wide awake after this one
November 5, 2008 - 04:02 ET by spartanrmdNow that this election has got the conservatives attention its time to start acting like citizens, not like sheep. It always takes an incident like this election to move the conservative agenda. Now is the time to get moving for the 2010 ellections and then the 2012 reinstatement of a conservative government. First we have to admit that the republican party in general is broken and in need of an overhaul. - Admitting you have a problem is the first step towards recovery. we dont need anyone that gives a wink and a nod to earmarks and fiscal malpractice for the sake of personal political gain we need someone who puts the USA first and knows he is being elected to serve the citizens of the USA and NOT the world. - if it happens to be good for the world thats just a bonus, if not thats the problem of their leaders. we need someone that actually thinks that our borders need to be controled and the illegal immigration is just that - illegal and those who come here illegaly commit a crime and should suffer consequences. we need someone who is for fair trade - not free trade that destroys american jobs. we need someone that belives in the free market system and that will lighten the burden of the countless regulatory agencies on both business and the consumer. - on that note : the federal government needs to get out of our lives - The fed should ONLY print money, carry the mail, and provide for the defence of the USA. all other functions should be left to the states. we need someone who instinctivly know its a baby not a fetus and doesnt mince the point. we need someone that actually is smart enough to understand the science of climate change and tell gore and his followers to get a grip on reality and expose them for what they are - the biggest flim flam artists of the 21st century and finally we need someone who will really overhaul the tax system with either a flat tax or a national sales tax. It sure wasnt Mccain this time and it sure as hell wasnt any of the dems and most of the republicans

November 5, 2008 - 04:06 ET by liberal_bug_zapperThere is only one thing we can do. Run all RINOs out of the party. We are not all inclusive. We do not allow anyone in the party except strict constructionists. It's time we go back to our roots. If we don't, and we look too much like Democrats, they will always win, because they're much better at lying and pulling fast one's on the American people.
Become the original Republicans. Become the true party of original Liberals. Become Milton Friedman Liberals and Ayn Rand Liberals. Enough of the entitlements, we fight them all the way... until unless, more than 50% of the electorate is on the dole. Then, I say we start a revolution and take the country back, because we'll never get it back once more than 50% of the people have become moochers.

Everyone knows
November 5, 2008 - 04:44 ET by DragonsbreathThis election was bought and paid for by the far left and media. So no this is not a big surprise to me.
Hopefully while the new so called government tears down this country the Justice department will wake up and start doing it's job. You know the small simple things such as proving he is even eligible to be in office by his fraud on his law license, where he was born, his terrorist associations. Or all the other things hidden by him and his media friends. Then they can look into the media bias and explain to real Americans why they allowed it to go on. Then the separation of church and state where they forced him down peoples throats, when he puts his buddy wright in a government position. Then they can look into the voter fraud issues. Surely there is enough work there to keep them busy for the next 50 years until we are allowed another election. I hope there are some constitutional lawyers working on this at least.
But on the good side.... Now his media buddy's and black folk will find out real fast just how little they mean to him. I will guess they will be the first thrown under the bus just like the rest of his friends. And they will find he is not the first African- American president but the first Arab- African socialist leader, Time to stock pile the guns and ammo to protect our families you know it is up to you now.

What scares me is seeing
November 5, 2008 - 04:42 ET by suzycreamcheeseWhat scares me is seeing just how quickly the map of the U. S. was colored blue. In these times of economic hardships and terrorists breathing down our necks, an inexperienced socialist was elected president? How did that happen? So many true Republicans decided to vote for the very liberal Obama over a moderate? That just doesn't equate for me.
For a true Republican, a moderate is a much better candidate than a liberal. Maybe it has nothing to do with McCain's moderatism. Maybe the tides have turned, the liberals just outnumber the conservatives in this country now and will from here on out, and we don't stand a chance in 2012, 2016, etc. How else can you explain Murtha's win (for God's sake) and another victory for the Democratic congress?

November 5, 2008 - 05:17 ET by easygoerI not sure I believe that. Obama's handlers are no idiots.; thats why they presented their handouts as actual tax cuts. Obama may be a kook leftie, but he was using the tax cut rhetoric( 95% will get one) to get himself elected. At least, Walter Mondale had the decency and honesty to put foward his plans. Problem is, he lost 49 states. That won't get The One elected. Neither would his "courageous" stand against FISA. Obama's brilliance has been his ability to obfuscate.

November 5, 2008 - 04:54 ET by ArchConservativeAll you have is moderates who roll over. Now that the dems control everything, you think they will actually grow a spine? Dream on. Just like the French during WWII when the Nazis rolled their tanks into Paris, these people that we call Republicans will do everything they can to appease those in charge.
Yeah, that's right. If the left can compare us to Hitler then it's fair game to do it right back.
What should our elected "leaders" do? There should be no appeasement. There should be outright uprisings by the Republican minority. There should be calls for hearings, they should be on the news every night making the case for conservatism.
But since it hasn't happened since '96, I don't see it happening now.

For the first time...
November 5, 2008 - 06:52 ET by PA Conservativein my adult life, I am embarrassed to be an American. What a sad day. Does anyone else realize that the mere fact that Obama's race is constantly and consistently mentioned shows that we HAVEN'T come very far on race relations? The not so subtle text of this election is the fact that he has been elected because of the color of his skin, not his qualifications or his positions on issues. Most Libs could tell you that he stands for "hope and change". Beyond that, they couldn't tell you two things the man stands for. Whites voted for him out of guilt, blacks because he's a black man. Do people understand that voting FOR someone based on their skin color is as racist as NOT voting for someone based on their skin color. 70% of Libs did not make any sort of informed, intelligent decision for the highest office in the land. Scary.
I can only pray that his election starts another Republican revolution. I guess we can hope that the Messiah turns out to be the next coming of Jimmy Carter. Is there any way this could happen? Could this be the death knell of the Liberals? Will the Messiah's imcompetence finally make people sit up, pay attention, and ignore the liberal biases of the MSM? That may be the only good to come from this...future elections will be determined by an electorate making intelligent decisions. Here's hoping we all survive the next four years.
It only takes 20 years for a liberal to become a conservative without changing a single idea.

Will the Real Obama Stand Up?
November 5, 2008 - 07:22 ET by JillCWJust who is this president-elect? Think about it. He has the Kennedy impramata (curse?) on him thanks to their backing. He has the filth of Rev. Wright on him and the scum of Bill Ayers and Bernadette Dohrn. He has the horror of Louis Farrakhan attached to him and the support of all America haters around the world.
May not seem like much in the natural, but in the spiritual one must ask: Who is Barack Obama? Who is this man who came out of nowhere (descended like an eagle) and was voted in because of foreign money, etc. We still don't know if he's a natural born citizen, but we do know his father was a muslim and his mother of European descent. Who is Obama?
I'm not just concerned for this nation politically, I'm concerned spiritually. Liberals in this nation worship him. They are the same folks who will willingly take the infamous "Mark of the Beast." This isn't just a political battle, it's far more.
I would suggest the following:
It's time for a revolution in this country that will produce real change. If we're so divided, why don't we divide geographically? Let the people in each state--except California, Oregon, Mass., New York--vote which side they're on. One side is conservative, the other liberal with separate governments. They can have BO and we get to elect a leader with some morals, convictions, etc. Those who subscribe to liberal ideologies--abortion, gay marriage, etc.--must live on the liberal side. Then, after we on the conservative side humble ourselves and pray and repent, maybe it would be interesting to see which side fares better.
The next time the "O" says he's a Christian, I'm going to barf. I would respect him more if he had been honest about this, but he's lied about so much, and he will surely lie about more. Watch out for Sharia law coming into America.
It's time to leave the union and form a more perfect union as our Founders did. Anything less isn't worth the effort.

November 5, 2008 - 07:16 ET by jazzact13OK, here's my thoughts.
1. The Republican Party needs to rediscover what it means to be conservative. They need to stop trying to play to the media, and stop trying to "reach across the aisle". In other words, they need to stop playing nice. They doomed themselves in this election by having a candidate who was essentially not-conservative and even distainful of conservatives.
2. We need to vote out the liberal media. That media has been hurting, yes, but it's still there and it's still has too much influence. Ideas on how that can best be done are welcomed.
3. The Republicans need to tighten up the primary voting restrictions. I don't think it's be accident that McCain could have been considered the ideal Republican candidate for liberals--it was essentially a win-win for them. And how much of his being the candidate had to do with Dems masquerading as Reps and voting for him in primaries? You know the Dems are going to do it, because of Operation Chaos, so the Reps doing so is simply fair play (not to mention smart and wise).
4. When can we start an "Impeach Obama" campaign? Don't worry, he'll give us a reason. Probably plenty of them.
5. I'm ready now to start "Palin 2012".

I hope President Elect Obama isn't the Euro Welfare State socialist with bully inclinations he appears to be, in all but name.
But I fear he is. I know how the soft tyranny of Euro-socialism (accepted even by so-called conservative parties) is destroying the very notion of government by the people for the people, by stealing power for the elites only.
American conservatives have to take it on the chin...
And start immediately to shape the free-market, small governemt, free speech, freedom to succeed policies which will distinguish them from the powerful ruling claque in the media, and the Washington establishment.
That is the only way to win conservative IDEALS the reins of power... in time. Aping Democrats with a socialist-lite will not work, IMHO.

November 5, 2008 - 07:36 ET by BlazerI for one am happy this whole thing is over, seems like it's been going on forever. Speaks a lot for an America where Jim Crow laws were in effect just 50yrs. ago. This is an historical moment folks, America has just elected it's first black president, and although thrilled by that prospect only, I regret he's a socialist. Hopefully like the other side says, this will go along ways in healing the racial divide and unity, although I seriously doubt it.
With that said, I refuse to be nasty and rabid like the left. Barrack Obama is my president and I will support him, although I'm sure I will vehemently oppose most of his decisions, I'm sure there will be a few I can cheer him on in. Until then I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, and pray America won't soon have buyers remorse.

Americans: Stuck on Stupid
November 5, 2008 - 08:42 ET by Mary Louise TurnerThis is, indeed, a day to mourn. The ignorance of too many American voters (the "sheeple") came out loud and clear last night. Buffaloed by the MSM (especially the nutworks) and the public schools, they voted with their emotions and pocketbooks, and not common sense.
Here's another reason to be nervous. The MSM found a formula that worked to perfection: they chose a candidate and demonized his opponents to a fare-thee-well. Unfortunately, too many "sheeple" fell hook, line and sinker for the journalists' deceptions, and we got this result. This formula will help the MSM maintain its power for years to come, and it should come as a warning to future Republican candidates.
In the year that we will have before the next election cycle....
November 5, 2008 - 07:46 ET by c5thenMaybe the Republican party can actually start to get back to the Conservative principles that founded the party? Rather than trying to out do the democrats by running to the center while the democrats are running to the left, maybe they might try and actually stand for their principles and ideals instead of allowing the media to denegrate them as if they were something to be ashamed of.

November 5, 2008 - 08:30 ET by islero47I woke up late for work, and my wife tells me Obama won. I had to stay up all night with that cloud hanging over my head--although I suppose it might be just as difficult as trying to sleep with that knowledge. Anyway, around a quarter after 5 this morning, I finally had reason to smile: Coleman leading Franken by 1100 votes, in addition to Bachmann holding her seat.
I thought Minnesotans had learned their lesson from Gov. Jesse Ventura to not elect jokes at political leaders, yet this 'comedian'--and I do use that term loosely, he's as funny as Sarah Silverman and David Allen Grier combined--gave an incumbent with no genuine scandal or any blatant disservice a tight race. Seriously, how much more of a joke can we make ourselves if we actually elect a comedian as a representative? Jesters belong present in the court, not part of the court. I already have to put up with Crock Orama's annoying speaking style for the next for years, I'm so relieved that I don't have to put up with Franken's ugly mug and idiotic commentary on a frequent basis for the next two.
What would truly make my day would be for Crock Orama's citizenship to turn up false. I'm joining the Marines, and I very much do not want a coke snorting, anti military, pro choice, socialist coward to be my Commander in Chief. I will serve my country and my president, but I will be severely pissed if he goes all Murtha on the Marines, or any branch of the armed forces.
Keeping my fingers crossed.

November 5, 2008 - 08:06 ET by HeaterManNo, Lady Liberty didn't die tonight -- and if you think that, you're just as bad as Jeremiah Wright and all the other kooks. This is America folks, and this is how our system is set up. Liberal MSM or not, whether we like the results or not. We are not a socialist country, and there are many libs who actually like the idea of a capitalist country (God knows they make enough money). I love America because we believe in fairness, and I for one am going to give him a chance.
Pat Buchanan said it pefectly yesterday, demographics is destiny. This is the United States of the 21st century, folks. I like what Tim Pawlenty of Minn said, conservative princples are right, it's just that Republicans need to do a better job of explaining it to minorities and young people.
It seems to me that the purpose of Newsbusters will be even more relevant as the voice of the oppostion. Bill Clinton did wonderful things for Rush Limbaugh.
If you believe in fairness heaterman
November 5, 2008 - 08:25 ET by Dee Bunkthen you could never support this man. This was the most unfair election we've ever had and it's only going to get worse.
What was unfair about it?
November 5, 2008 - 08:54 ET by HeaterManWhat was unfair about it? The liberal media? That Obama raised more money (following rules the McCain himself came up with)? We've been winning presidential elections for years and years, despite the liberal media and despite all these other things. Not sure if you're old enough to remember, but in 1980, the media laughed about Reagan being president - like him being president was a JOKE! One of our greatest presidents. He had to deal with the "Fairness Doctrine" in the media, and this was before we had Fox. Yet he won two elections.
No, this is a fine example of what happens when a campaign doesn't stick to a simple message. Contrast this with Bush's 2004 campaign. What was the message then? Bush we can trust, Kerry is a flipflopper. Simple and effective, and it worked.
What was McCain's message this time? Well, let's see...Obama's a terrorist, Obama's a Socialist, Obama's a Marxist, Obama's a celebrity, Obama will redistribute income, Obama's inexperienced. Notice a pattern here? Obama had a simple message: Bush is the problem, and McCain is Bush.
It's message discipline, and they learned it from Rove. Why they didn't enlist his help this time around is beyond me. No, we lost fair and square. Kudos to McCain for accepting responsibility.
HeaterMan:
November 5, 2008 - 12:40 ET by j. frank wilsonIt looks like I'm about two-thirds through these comments and you are a rare voice of reason. People who honestly love America, believe in the Constitution, and trust our wonderful system of government need to get behind the winner. Elections just don't work if winners don't win (and - let's face it - losers lose).
There's already talk about reviving the Barack Obama birth certificate garbage. Haven't we learned anything since Bill Clinton was elected? The best man won - fair and square. Our unique system of government worked one more time.
Sore losers on very bad teams blame the refs and umpires. To say Sen. Obama's victory was due to the MSM being in the tank for him is simply an excuse. Sen. Obama ran a 2008 campaign and Sen. McCain ran a 1958 or 1968 campaign. Simple as that. Although given the extradinary economic problems in America today it is highly doubtful any Republican candidate could have won.
Sen. Obama first defeated the entrenched Clinton/Democratic Party established organization. PS: Thanks to Ole BlunderRush for Operation Chaos - if, indeed, that actually had anything to do with Sen. Obama's nomination. Perhaps we should also thank Sheer Insannity's Stop Hillary Express, while we are at it. What is he now - 0 for 3?
Then Sen. Obama defeated the candidate from the party in power. And he did it with a 50-state strategy. Karl Rove's strategy was 50% plus 1 vote. That can be a formula for winning the election but it's no way to build a base to govern from. That's why President Bush had to try to rule - he couldn't govern, despite his claims about political capital and a mandate.
The most constructive thing conservatives can do right now is actually learn about our new President. So much of the ranting here is based on lies, mis-information, distortions, etc. To say he has no record in either the Illinois House or the US Senate simply is not true. And only a person who hasn't bothered to do his or her own accurate independent research would say it.
Read Change We Can Believe In. Get the facts. In political philosophy Sen. Obama is somewhat to the right of Richard Nixon. He will govern from the center - where the majority of Americans can be found. That's why he got more than 50% of the popular vote. Sen. Obama will be President Obama for all Americans. If you let him.
To huddle in bitter defeat is to deny that our system works. Sure, some sad people will let their own bile eat them away until the breeze carries away their dry husks. But that's not life and that's not the best that the United States of America offers.
This is not a black victory (and certainly not a white defeat). This is an American victory.
When he announced he was running for President, Sen. Obama quoted Abraham Lincoln: "Of strange, discordant, and even hostile elements, we gathered from the four winds, and formed and fought to battle through." Those words ring true today.
American and the rest of this world has huge problems. Working together, finding common ground, remembering that first of all we are all citizens of one great nation, we can solve and resolve the tremendous difficulties we face. Together.
you know frank
November 5, 2008 - 12:47 ET by candanceI actually agree with you on one point: Obama did not steal the election. America is not the same place it was 20 years ago, the new generation of teens and immigrants want socialism, and our government is firmly moving to the left. Obama and the Dems have a mandate to govern.
People who honestly love America, believe in the Constitution, and trust our wonderful system of government need to get behind the winner.
After eight years of "Bush lied people died" I don't want one single lefty to say JACK about being united behind a leader.

November 5, 2008 - 13:01 ET by j. frank wilsonThank you. Will it stand the test of time? That is, to some extent, a self-fulfilling prophecy. If the people of the USA get behind the new Administration, definitely. If not? Then a rough road may become impassable.Do we really know who Sen. Obama is? Not entirely. Partially because we never know how any person will act as President. Some have grown in the job, some have diminished.Sen. Obama does have a well-established record - including being fired in the crucible of almost two years on the campaign trail (to generously mix a metaphor). What bothers me are the many, many NB'ers who write about him yet obviously have not actually looked into his record. I'm not suggesting everyone should agree with him. Personally, I do not agree with him on every issue. However, he will be the 44th President of these United States. Every citizen would be better off to learn who he actually is - and not be tilting at (or supporting, of course) a cartoon image.
Will it stand the test of time?
November 5, 2008 - 13:53 ET by vrwc13First let's see in the next few months who his friends are and where he goes to church.
"If the people of the USA get behind the new Administration, definitely."
How big of us it will be to do this, especially after the way the other side treated G. W. Bush from the get go. That may be a hard thing for many to swallow.
Personally, I am concernd, very concerned. I have studied history and found that one: socialism does not work, from our early settlers to the failed USSR (seen that firsthand as I lived there for over a year not too long ago). And two: that most civilizations fall from within, and mostly from a loss of values, corruption and greed.
If I were to meet the President-elect, I would shake his hand but not embrace, listen but not believe without proof. I will be watching closely for not only my own sake, but for the sake of my wife and children, my country and my faith.

The Republicans had no interest in getting behind the person who won the election. And look at the mess that resulted.
President Bush had many chances to unite this nation - as he promised to do. But, as I wrote, rather than govern he tried to rule. And that simply is not America.
Socialism doesn't work (except, apparently, in Alaska). Fortunately for most of us, that proposal is not on the desk. It's a lie - and will be proven to be so in the next four years.
The majority of Americans are going to willingly push forward into the 21st Century and get the job done. Some will remain stuck in the 20th (or 19th) and rue yesterday. Not much we can do about that except extend the invitation and keep the door open. Those folks are welcome to join America any time they want.

November 5, 2008 - 15:55 ET by j. frank wilsonRegarding spreading the wealth, don't forget Sen. McCain's 2000 appearance on Hardball - when he said people who make more money can afford to pay more money in taxes. Ask Cool Arrow about that quote.
In this country we don't have health care - we have sick care. We do a pretty good (not great) job of taking care of sick people who have medical insurance. We do a poor job of prevention, annual checkups, etc.
Please take a look at Jane Bryant Quinn's column:
http://www.newsweek.com/id/32858
This is just one example. Universal health care does not necessarily mean a US government run medical system or "socialized medicine" (are you old enough to remember that phrase?).
Sen. McCain is on the right track that we need to seperate individual and family health and medical insurance from employment. There are all sorts of problems with this system. But that's a long way away - and I'm not yet convinced taking employer-paid health insurance is the best way to do it.
Finally, I don't believe everything I see on YouTube - including "Black Panthers" in Philadelphia. I think they were put-ups - fakes. And even if one poor woman is confused about what an Obama Administration is going to mean for her and the rest of us, I don't put much stock in it. Just one person's view, after all.

Obama is NOT my President, he is not fit to be the Commander of our Forces.
Scuba
November 5, 2008 - 08:57 ET by SeashellI don't see him unleashing a nuke. I see him doing nothing. He'll want to understand why they did it, why they hate us, to discuss it with them and to make it all better. He won't blame them for it, after all, it was our fault.
A couple of things.
November 5, 2008 - 11:15 ET by ahusserI have posted thoughts along these lines above. His real test will be in the Middle East. I dont think radical muslims will attack us here (immediately) because many of the financial backers of these terrorists are states and heads of states. Right now these states (IMO) rightfully think they are sympatico with Obama. He is the man they wanted elected. Hell probably some of his campaign money came from them. No his first test will be on 2 fronts Iraq and Israel (and the idiot Biden said as much) If Obama pulls support from Iraq (probably saying that we can't spend anymore money on this action because of the financial crisis) a civil war will erupt almost immediately with the subsequent thousands of deaths. (Just like the blood on the Dem/libs hands in Vietnam). Even if he pulls most of the US troops out and leaves a "peacekeeping" force (Maybe UN peacekeepers who aint worth a you know what) the resulting civil war will finally frustrate Obama (intentionally) and he will pull the rest (like bubba in the Sudan and). The scenario with Israel is scarier. We are the staunch ally of Israel, if (Obama siding with Muslims) even goes from ally to neutral or his support is considered to be luke warm the muslims will be emboldened to do what they want in the region. Israel is not shy when it come to pre-emptive strikes. Look for an embassy from Israel to come early in the administration to feel Obama out and get some assurances. Just like Jimmah when he allowed the free reign of terrorism to erupt after not supporting the Shah of Iran. Terrorism and instability could re-erupt because of a lack of support for Israel. Both Israel and Iran are nuclear powers. These two scenarios are going to show Obama's true colors (which I think are yellow and red).

November 5, 2008 - 08:45 ET by i was just thinkingNo need to get all head-up over Obama's victory. Think about it: for 8 years, the libs have been telling us that Bush will never give up the Presidency, that he will declare martial law for some trumped up reason and will remain in office. Now, Erica Jong points out to us that he has brought troops home from Iraq and will send them into the streets under Cheney's command! See? Nothing to worry about!
In all seriousness, though... Obama and Biden... I hoped Gore wouldn't win, I hoped Kerry wouldn't win. But neither of them scared me. An Obama win terrifies me for the future of our country. I hope that my fears will prove to be groundless, but at this point in time... pray.

November 5, 2008 - 08:56 ET by play21cwWell..
Here is the silver lining, I have been defending Bush to the liberals for the last 8 years. I am now going to take pride in being on the offense, and being the critic. Its all we can do. So now we get to watch this ass-clown and point out everytime he screws up.
Lets just hope he doesnt screw up so badly that its not reversable. McCain is/was the right man for the job on the GOP side, but the republicans had their name dragged through the mud, and now its time to see if they can actually get anything done and bring about the change they have talked about. If not, in 2 years the GOP will take control again, and in 4 years we will take the white house (if it isnt re painted before then).
Remember, we are only 2 years away from the beginning of campaigning for 2012 presidential race! so that gives obama 2 years before he becomes a full time candidate again.
One of my conservative friends called me last night and put it in a light that i never thought of, he said "There is nothing we can do now, we can just hope and pray that democracy works, and that he does not get to accomplish what he has set out to do (socialism)." he went on some more and ended with "I pray to god that i am wrong about this guy (obama)" - I have to agree.. its no longer about hating this guy because hes a dem, socialist, etc.. its about watching his every move to ensure he doesnt do anything that will cause us to lose our freedoms.
I think that McCain ran a great Campaign, i think that his loss was a result of the mud slinging the MSM & liberals did towards the republican party. McCain's speech last night was great, he went out with class, and i think that earned him and the republicans a lot of respect for being so gracious.
Don't make me laugh
November 5, 2008 - 09:01 ET by TheHistorianMcCain was NOT the right candidate; he was what we tried to swallow hard and support. If McCain was the best conservative we could muster, we DESERVED to lose. McCain was nominated because he won more Democrats and "Independents" in the open primaries. There was no true conservative running. Hopefully 2012 will cure that. There should be a lot of conservatives to chosse from after the 2010 Congressional elections put them into office.

We CANNOT trust the MSM to fairly report the news, especially if a Republican is involved. We must do even more to fight the lies and slander that is flung at us.
One of the reasons McCain lost? The Dems brought it down into the mud with the help of the MSM and McCain made the decision not to throw any or try and deflect, thus he was the one covered in mud and Obama the Usurper was left looking clean.
Now all we have to worry
November 5, 2008 - 09:03 ET by play21cwNow all we have to worry about is a war with Iran, which will happen before Bush leaves office. Israel will attack Irans nuke sites because he knows that Bush will not hesitate to defend and help them.
We also now have to worry about the coal industry going bankrupt.
And i heard that Obama's birth certificate issue has gone to the supreme court. Lets see what happens.. Now that he will be C-I-C, he needs to release it.. Lets not let up on this one, he needs to release it and prove he is able to be president. And guess what? There are no provisions in the constitution that says what to do in such an event.. so there would be another election with HRC on the ticket.. this is going to get interesting i think..
THE OBAMA-NATION...
November 5, 2008 - 09:09 ET by danybhoyThe Obama administration with the Congressional majorities & with the leadership with people like Pelosi, Frank, Waters, Slaughter, Moran, McDermitt, Ellison, & Olberstar in the House...plus with Reed, Schumer, Boxer, Feinstein, Kennedy, Kerry, & company, this has the makings of THE MOST CORRUPT & ABUSIVE IN THE HISTORY OF THIS NATION.
The First Admendment...the media, almost all media, could be under fire. The "Fairness Doctrine" will not be enough for them...
The Second Admendment...Obama has been all about gun control, if you don't believe me, look into the Joyce Foundation. I'm just saying...
The Fourth Admendment...They have abused the rights of "Joe The Plumber" for just axing' Obama a question with an illegal looksee into his backround for purly political reasons by partisan hacks.
Plus, throw in massive tax hikes, an anti-energy energy policy, & it will destroy America's economy. Investment capital will flee & the jobs it pays for will go away. Energy prices will go through the roof, cap & trade will be a death sentence to the economic freedom of many Americans. The welfare state is coming people, it can be fought, but with the force of gov't behind it, it will be a hard fight. Hope to stop that change.
Add to all of this the fact that most of the MSM will not cover the soon to be Obama administration in an honest manner. We all saw how they were running cover for EVERY red flag that came up from this guy's past. Support the honest & true media. Talk radio & the internet will come into the crosshairs. Those outlets that were not in the tank for Obama must be supported & defended at all cost. The 1st thing that happens during a coup is the media is taken over to control what information the people get. This must be protected.
BTW, watch what happens to the courts with the sort of judges appointed by Obama...remember, we get the gov't we deserve. So bend over.

November 5, 2008 - 09:09 ET by AdelynHi All, I just wanted to say my 2 cents. The only satisfaction I have over Obama winning is he is going to let down a lot of people! He will fall flat on his face. As much as I hate to say it, I think a lot of really bad stuff is going to happen to this country. In 4 years - every moderate democrat will beg for a republican.
I wasn't a fan of Bill Clinton but at least I had no doubt that he loved this country. Even with Clinton, I was still proud to be an American. Today, I am no longer proud to be an American. I feel disgusted, he will NEVER BE MY PRESIDENT! In fact, he can kiss my ass!
Things the conservative
November 5, 2008 - 09:19 ET by Ruths husband BenThings the conservative movement need to do:
1. Clean up our own house. Stand for what we say we stand for. Allow no corruption, or even the appearance of corruption.
2. Catch up to the Democrats on the communication technologies (internet).
3. Do a much better job of explaining to the average American how Conservatism benefits them. It is not good enough to be right about how an entitlement society is enslavement to those on the receiving end; we need to better articulate why freedom is desirable. The younger generation doesn't get it and they don't have the deep seated fear of socialism that my generation does.
4. Learn from the Democrats. They won this election because they were effective at painting the incumbant as a bumbling fool. They also made our great successes in Iraq and Afghanistan look like marginal victories at best (but can you name a war with fewer casualties, or one that provided freedom for more people?).
5. This may be the most important - don't allow the upcoming administration to appoint any federal judges, expecially Supreme Court Judges. Do what-ever blocking measures that are necessary. We're going to lose America as a free country if we don't prevail on this one.
6. Take heart. The one thing we know about Liberals is that they can't help themselves. They will soon be embroiled in corruption and infighting. It comes with the mentality. If we can stand strong we will be okay.

While this is perfectly sensible, as a former Democrat, I can tell you that to the true, hardcore liberal democrats, it will not matter how the Republican philosophy is explained to them. Obama birth certificate - NOT going away
November 5, 2008 - 09:21 ET by fesmanWhile the Supreme Court did not take up the argument that the election should be delayed until Obama produces his valid birth certificate, Judge Souter did say that the Obama people have until Dec. 1 to respond to the "Writ of Certiorari". U.S. Supreme Court Justice David Souter has rejected an emergency appeal for the court to halt the tabulation of the 2008 presidential election results until Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama documents his eligibility to run for the office, according to an attorney who brought the action that challenges the Illinois senator's standing in the race.
However, the issue isn't going away, at least for now, since Souter set a schedule for a response from Obama to the challenge from attorney Philip J. Berg.
As WND reported, Berg brought his claims to the Supreme Court after a federal judge dismissed his lawsuit alleging Obama is ineligible to be president because he possibly was born in Kenya.
The judge concluded Berg lacks standing to bring the action.
Philip J. Berg
The 34-page memorandum that accompanied the court order from Judge R. Barclay Surrick said ordinary citizens can't sue to ensure that a presidential candidate actually meets the constitutional requirements of the office.
Instead, Surrick said Congress could determine "that citizens, voters, or party members should police the Constitution's eligibility requirements for the Presidency," but that it would take new laws to grant individual citizens that ability.
"Until that time," Surrick says, "voters do not have standing to bring the sort of challenge that Plaintiff attempts to bring."
(Story continues below)
In a statement today, Berg said he was told by a clerk for Souter that his application for an injunction to stay the election was denied. But he also said the defendants "are required to respond to the Writ of Certiorari" by Dec. 1.

FWIW: I am firmly convinced that Obama is not a US citizen regardless of his place of birth. The reason is his adoption in Indonesia by Mr. Soetoro, where he went by the name, Barry Soetoro. When he became an adult, he had the opportunity to change the choice of citizenship made for him in Indonesia by his mother and stepfather but I have never seen that he has done so. The paperwork to do this is not great because he had been residing in Hawaii with his mother for more than 5 years at his majority. Nevertheless, he still needed to do it to erase that question mark.

November 5, 2008 - 09:32 ET by nkviking75I'd like to see prominent conservatives and conservative organizations fan out across the country over the next four years and educate people on the basic tenets of conservatism. They should also teach them how to recruit true conservative candidates and get them elected. It seems like a lot of the major conservative events are in Washington. Why not Des Moines, Laredo, Cheyenne, and other locations in flyoverland? It wouldn't hurt to have conservative leaders making contact with ordinary Americans.

"Give us a king to lead us,"
November 5, 2008 - 09:42 ET by vrwc134 So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. 5 They said to him, "You are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways; now appoint a king to lead [a] us, such as all the other nations have."
6 But when they said, "Give us a king to lead us,"
this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD.
7 And the LORD told him: "Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king.
8 As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you.
9 Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do."
10 Samuel told all the words of the LORD to the people who were asking him for a king.
11 He said, "This is what the king who will reign over you will do:...
14 He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants.
15 He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants. 16 Your menservants and maidservants and the best of your cattle [b] and donkeys
he will take for his own use.
17 He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves.
18 When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, and the LORD will not answer you in that day."
19 But the people refused to listen to Samuel.
"No!" they said. "We want a king over us. 20 Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us... 1 Samuel 8

November 5, 2008 - 11:14 ET by vrwc13I woke up this morning with the story of David on my mind.
Thanks for the New Testement verse...
The context of your verse is worth sharing too:
God's Wrath Against Mankind
18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
21For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.
22Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 2
5They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts.
Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another.
Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
28Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death,
they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

Bush has been in office for 2 terms. Where does the fault of our current issues lie, if not with him? 2 TERMS! People wanted something different since the current regime is broken. And due to our bipartisan system, McCain is old and part of the old system.
We live in a democratic, capitalistic country. The people have spoken and used their democratic right to select the man they wanted in office. Barack capitilized and raised more money. What is more American than that? By every definition, he WON this election.
Most elections are a case of voting for the lesser of the evils. This election was different. The man of the people won.

November 5, 2008 - 09:39 ET by candanceI start by leaving the GOP. Seriously. They don't get it and they never will. Last night Karl Rove compared the Obamas to The Cosby Show while Bill Kristol and Fred Barnes kicked around Obama's plan for the first 100 days. No guilt, no disappointment. These people don't care who wins the White House as long as their paychecks remain intact.
We've watched the GOP spend 20 years stacking the Senate with the likes of John McCain and Ted Stevens. We've watched them fill governors' mansions with Schwarzeneggar, Crist, and Pawlenty. We've watched them endorse nannies like Bloomberg. And every time we complained, we were snapped back into our ranks with the threat of letting the other side win.
Cries of "not another Perot" echoed through the threads on NB. So conservatives got in line. There was no Perot this year. And it still didn't work. We voted for a centrist rino who almost gave us amnesty, and the Democrats still ran away with it. Had I written in Ann Coulter it would have made no difference.
If GOP leadership doesn't care then I'm done with them. No more party loyalty. I will support conservative people with little regard to the letter behind their name. I will join the NRA and other conservative groups. I will boycott the entire MSM. I will proudly walk around as a typical white person who bitterly clings to my Bible more than ever.

November 5, 2008 - 09:48 ET by play21cwWell this is an oppertunity like no other for the republicans to clean house and get rid of the corrupt. Its time to position ourselves to compete with obama, and project a 'cool' 'new' 'bold' 'fresh' image just as BHO did. The next election is for republicans to win, that is if we clean up.

Massachusetts SUCKS
November 5, 2008 - 10:01 ET by Pha PhaI have lived in this state all my life and I am done with this tax and spend state. I am moving to Texas and buying a gun. The last real red state. Morons in this state shot down a chance to ged rid of the State income tax. The elected Liveshot Kerry to another term. The killed the Dog racing industry here. The just made the posession of pot a traffic ticket. They re-elected Barnyard animal Frank to another term. The list goes on. I am disgusted. If I see another college student with an Obama button on there lapel, I going to go postal. ARGGGGGGGGGGGGG.

Wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could. Well, I was fix'en to get here as fast as I could, it did take awhile.

November 5, 2008 - 10:26 ET by Pha PhaI am very serious. I am researching the City of Austin right now.
The housing costs are alot cheaper. Its a bummer that my house here in Mass has lost some value, might take a while to sell. And I need to find good employment. And I will hate to leave the rich history the city of Boston has to offer, but poop happens.
Thaks for the offer of a helping hand.
God help us all.

November 5, 2008 - 10:38 ET by vrwc13..good, but Austin may be a bit on the liberal side itself. Dallas, and the Houston area might be worth a look. Jobs and housing costs in Houston are great right now: affordable housing and a great job market.

November 5, 2008 - 11:23 ET by RESTLESS 1Then stay the hell away from Austin. Moscow on the Colorado it is. San Antonio's economy is in good shape, and there are plenty of jobs. Great Tex-Mex too. Housing here is cheaper than Houston or Dallas, and there is plenty of opportunity in medical research, web hosting, construction, and national security.
Just learn how to say "Howdy Y'all", and you'll be just fine.

"What should the right (or more specific, Christians) do now?"
November 5, 2008 - 10:07 ET by vrwc1318 On the seventh day the child died. David's servants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they thought, "While the child was still living, we spoke to David but he would not listen to us. How can we tell him the child is dead? He may do something desperate."
19 David noticed that his servants were whispering among themselves and he realized the child was dead. "Is the child dead?" he asked.
"Yes," they replied, "he is dead."
20 Then David got up from the ground. After he had washed, put on lotions and changed his clothes, he went into the house of the LORD and worshiped. Then he went to his own house, and at his request they served him food, and he ate.
21 His servants asked him, "Why are you acting this way? While the child was alive, you fasted and wept, but now that the child is dead, you get up and eat!"
22 He answered, "While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept. I thought, 'Who knows? The LORD may be gracious to me and let the child live.' 23 But now that he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me." 2 Samuel 12
...those of us who call on Jesus as Lord and Savior, need to take note from David. Our "hope" is in the Lord, not man. It's a time for us to raise our owm Ebenezers (1 Samuel 7:12-14 ), praise God, make a plan, and move on.

November 5, 2008 - 10:06 ET by msh1973My thoughts: Republicans in Congress have moved away from conservative ideals, McCain was one of the biggest offenders. As Rush says, " Conservatism wins everytime it is tried"...it just wasn't on the ballot. We must get behind men and women like Palin, Jindal, Steele, and the woman from MN (I can't remember her name). I like the ticket Jindal/Palin or vice versa.

November 5, 2008 - 12:34 ET by jazzact13"a Conservative wasn't on the ballot"
That was the main thing.
Maybe this will give the Republican's pause in their quest to be centrists and to 'play nice'.
Here's to hoping.

November 5, 2008 - 13:03 ET by msh1973bigtimer,
Thanks for that information.
I hear you loud and clear. I just emailed the McCain website (not that it matters now) Here is what I told him:
"I for one will not "unify" with Obama, by the way, you got 55 million votes, that means 55 million do not hold any of the values of Obama. I do not believe anything he is pushing: Freedom of Choice Act; Open borders; defense cuts (while Putin is loading up his missiles); being called racists and rednecks! You have got to be kidding me. What killed your campaign is that you did not stand for conservative values. God Bless Sarah Palin! Thanks anyway. Palin/Jindal 2012"
How was that?

You have to re-group
November 5, 2008 - 10:30 ET by badcleatsTiming is a subject not mentioned in this race. The financial crash on wall street was a huge handicap for the conservtive vote, and it came at at time to make a huge difference in the outcome. Every conservative legislture on every level, needs to bring the people that brought this about as soon as possible, to face the music. If people like Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Maxine Waters are able to cruise thru this mess, and still be in power, it will just be another failure of leadership by elected conservatives. Hit em in the pocket book! Money talks, and B S walks. Every conservative that is upset about the outcome....Don't spend your money with companies of all kinds, that go against your thinking. If you subscribe to a blatant left newspapaer like the Seattle P I, cancell! You have as much power as any one individual and don't weaken, stick together.
Perhaps the biggest problem
November 5, 2008 - 11:36 ET by bradbenj5952Perhaps the biggest problem with any good folks on the right is that national politics has become so nasty that they actually don't want to subject themselves to it. Look what they did to a decent, God and family person like Sarah Palin! Who in their right mind would want to get involved in that mess? Ronald Reagan was a very rare creature indeed. On the other hand, complete looniness and stupidity are often requirements of those on the left. Just look at people like Barney Frank, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and many, many others. And the only reason this is so is because of the greatest enabler for vileness the world has ever seen, the main stream media in America, a.k.a. MSM. Our founding fathers were wise to give the press the right to criticize the government. I suppose they never imagined what abuses the recipients of that right would eventually turn it into...not that that knowledge would have made a difference in what they bestowed.

What does Obama plan to do
November 5, 2008 - 11:01 ET by AJWhat does Obama plan to do with GWOT anyway? For a while he was
just like any socialist in this country: pull every troop out now.
Then he rolled over in his grave and said "well, we'll pull out some but
not all." Then he said some crap like "Get everyone out of Iraq and
focus on Afghanistan." Afghanistan? What's going there? Does Bambi
get intelligence that the Bush administration doesn't? Is Osama bin
Laden still in Afghanistan? I guess I am so massively confused right
now.
If you ask me, legislation should be passed that raises
the voting age to a higher level, say, 25. I'm a college student and
what pisses me off most is to see all the Obama propoganda* that has
been pasted every 6 inches on campus. But what is even sadder is all
these fresh-out-of-high-school newbies (lol, hence "freshman") who were
seduced by Obama so fast. No one cares to learn about the issues
anymore. They just vote for a candidate on one issue alone, whatever
that may be. That, or they just vote for the "cool" guy.
If Obama doesn't end America, it's my generation that will, sad to say. I
plan to do my best to prevent that butI'm just one man.
* If you've stepped onto a college campus over the last 4 or 5 months, it's
been a forboding sign of the propoganda that I think Obama will use
when he gets into office. After all, he has media wrapped around his
finger, and the democrats now own everything in Congress. If this
isn't a communism, I don't know what is. Or at least a full-on
socialism. I'm terrified...
Other things that terrify me now:
-The ressurrection of the Fairness Doctrine.
-The ending of the global war on terrorism and the beginning of negotiating with the enemy.
-Redistribution of wealth.
-That stupid civil force idea.
-The ending of all respect for human life through the passing of laws that support abortion in any way.
Unfortunately
November 5, 2008 - 12:05 ET by ahusserThe two dumbest things in the Constitution is the amendment allowing 18 year olds to vote. (Hey man they can go to war but they can't vote- circa 1970) and the lifetime tenure of federal judges and supreme court justices. Unfortunately the 18 year old vote definitely favors the Dems and another amendment repealing that amendment is not going to ever be in the cards. The Dems would never allow the disenfranchisement of a large voting block that votes 90 per cent democrat. So in the end, as Buchanan stated, the elections are all demographics.

What should we do now?
November 5, 2008 - 11:07 ET by mister josephFirst, for today, go outside and take a walk. Go to the local park, lake, etc. Just go and enjoy the day and the beauty that comes from the day. Have a quiet time; if you have kids, spend it with them. Enjoy what you have, and go to bed knowing how blessed you are as an individual.
Then wake up tomorrow morning, prepared to FIGHT.
The left won by being confrontational. The right needs to think about how to do the same thing. If gay marriage is passed in the land, create an organization that allows Christians to be married in the name of Christ, but not in the name of the State. I have told myself that the woman I marry is someone I am going to love; if our government has decided to destroy the sanctity of marriage, we should simply say, "fine," take back the sanctity of marriage by not indulging in state-recognized marriages.
That's only an example, but it's a start. A good idea would be to start spending money on ad campaigns that show what America *used* to be, the virtues that at one time made us great. If Obama pals up with dictators (he already has), it's time to spend some major cash on embarassing the hell out of the administration by showing just what has happened to people in those countries. Daniel Perl? Show that video in its undiluted evilness.
Infiltrate the school systems and make an organized effort to challenge their teachings. Encourage conservative teachers. The Republican Party should create an organization that gives conservatives who have a desire to teach the backbone and support they can have. More importantly an organization should be created that will OFFER FREE LEGAL COUNSEL to teachers who face the long-arm of oppressive liberal leadership.
Mainly, though, be steadfast in your faith, your beliefs, and let no one--NO ONE--tell you otherwise. Get indignent with them if they belittle you. If they make offensive comments, call them on it. Make them see that theirs is not the only opinion out there. And, remember, as Christians, we know how this story ends--so don't sweat Obama too much.
and, finally, i have to say this in all-caps:
TAKE COMFORT, THOUGH, THAT LIBERALS ARE GENERALLY LAZY PEOPLE AND WILL TURN ON OBAMA ONCE HE STARTS MAKING DEMANDS OF THEM.
Mr. Joseph:
November 5, 2008 - 12:49 ET by j. frank wilsonYou wrote that liberals are generally lazy people. Check out the Five Thirty Eight website (not because Mr. Silverman predicted Sen. Obama would win 348.8 electoral votes and this morning he has 349). They visited dozens of McCain and Obama headquarters across the United States. Read what they discovered: talk about a story that got very little coverage! Eye-opening!

Start grass-roots initiatives and get them onto local ballots as referendums. Research left wing treatises on how to get what you want, and follow their instructions.
Immediately become organized and vocal against Democrat plans to reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine. Know that it is a full frontal assault on the First Amendment, and that if they shut conservatives up through that means, things will quickly get worse.
When people feel the pain, they'll look for the pain relievers. In this situation it will be done through rallying others and storming the ballot box during the next election.
