What should the conservative movement do online? What issues and political battlegrounds should be our focus in the years ahead?
These questions are some of the things being discussed over at the Next Right, a new blog you should put into your daily rotation. They launched yesterday but I've been so busy with stuff that piled up following my wedding I wasn't able to give them the plug they deserve.
The Next Right is the brainchild of web veteran Patrick Ruffini, former Fred Thompson web outreach guy Jon Henke (who is also behind QandO), and Soren Dayton, the blogger unjustly fired by the John McCain campaign for daring to link Barack Obama to his leftist nutjob former pastor.
You're welcome to register and post your thoughts about the future. Anyone can sign up and blog so feel free to head over and check it out. I'm already signed up and will be contributing.

May 28, 2008 - 17:13 ET by bigtimerHey, hey, hey Matthew...
I think I am going to like this site a lot from what I just read over there...I thank you so much...and will be looking deeper into it in the next few days for sure...maybe sooner.

May 28, 2008 - 23:09 ET by zeestephenHalf way down the first page I came across this Patrick Ruffini headline:
"McCain Must Define The Post-Bush GOP"
And this Ruffini article:
"This I think summarizes how many establishment conservatives feel, whether they admit to it or not.
"1) Most conservatives have long favored the Bush way to the McCain way, but won't be caught dead defending anything with 28% approval. 2) McCain is transparently not Bush. 3) What the heck -- we might as well try the McCain way."
Zee responds: I've been a registered Republican for 40 years.
If this really is what the Conservative leadership in the GOP feels, I will resign from the Party.
zeestephen - I'm not sure
May 28, 2008 - 23:21 ET by Dee BunkI don't know anything about it yet, but I think it's a place where you will be able to voice your opinion and possibly shape (if enough people agree with you) their focus. It sounds like the point of it is to find out what people want.
It's worth trying for awhile.
I would love to give it
May 28, 2008 - 23:31 ET by RESTLESS 1a try, if I could ever get my damn confirmation email and password. :(
(And I thought NB took forever to get back to me). :)
You're correct, Dee
May 28, 2008 - 23:49 ET by Matthew SheffieldThat particular post is also more of a political gamesmanship analysis and less about ideology than a lot of the other stuff at Next Right. There will be both the short-term and the longer-term pieces.
Good - thanks for the info Matthew
May 28, 2008 - 23:53 ET by Dee Bunkand congrats on your marriage!

May 29, 2008 - 00:33 ET by bigtimerHey zee...I really think you need to look deeper into the site, I did and there is a lot of varying blogs and posters to-boot, I don't know if I am going to like it or not yet, but have posted myself already...so far I like what I see...don't be so quick to judge yet...give it some look over, inject your input there, as I feel the same as you do about McCain...this is also my first night there too.
By the way believe me, I haven't had time to read all what I want to yet because my first love is NBs ...anyway just a suggestion.

May 28, 2008 - 18:28 ET by Clear thinkerI tried to sign up a few days ago and they never sent my confirmation email to complete the sign up process. Then I tried again yesterday, and still zip. I'm guessing they have someone there that may know me from this site and has decided I may be too opinionated.
Oh well.

Let's see what they think
May 29, 2008 - 02:39 ET by sarcasmoOf my first post. I doubt it goes over too well, especially the "tail between the legs retreat" suggestion on internet gambling policy, even though most Republicans I've talked to will freely admit it was a dimwitted control freak idea implemented in a very stupid way which ignored a plethora of unintended consequences while making the control freaks look like the losers they are.
Keep forsaking America's libertarian roots & values, and conservatives will keep failing because you'll keep DESERVING to fail. People have wised-up, they now want ACTIONS, not just hot air, so enough with stealing our rhetoric at election-time (and they shouldn't whine about Republican-passed ballot access laws, unless they enjoy being the butt of Libertarian jokes). It's time to steal a few superior ideas, and then enact them.
